Hi there, it’s Tim. Don't shoot the messenger, said Paul! According to Mr
Hudson, summer is still on hold. He says the long term forecast for July shows
no sign of improving, with more heavy rain and thunderstorms on the horizon.

Of course, for many people the damage is done. The aftermath of the floods
continues to dominate the news agenda in this part of the world. The total
number of homes damaged in Hull is estimated at seventeen thousand and the
repair bill has risen to £200 million pounds. Today sees the first official
visit of a government minister since the crisis began ten days ago. He is the
Communities Minister, John Healey, a close ally of Gordon Brown, so he is going
to be under a lot of pressure to provide extra cash from our embattled local
councils, not to mention angry householders who believe more should have been
done to prevent flood damage on this scale. And we'll be finding out what
people in London know about the extent of the damage to our area as claims
mount that Hull is the forgotten city. As always keep your thoughts coming in
on this. Let us know what problems you’re facing in the clean up operation.
Send in your comments and questions and I’ll put them to the Government !
minister when I interview him tonight. Get in touch throughout the day to the
usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also on tonight's programme, we'll get the latest twist in the campaign to have
a proper and fitting memorial in Lincoln Cathedral to the men of Bomber
Command. We featured this story last month after we discovered that this
memorial, dedicated to the thousands of victims of Lincolnshire's Bomber
Command, was found to be shut off to the public. After that story, many of you
messaged in to express how angry you were. In June, Mr Robinson wrote – “As an
ex RAF serviceman, I am sad and disgusted at the treatment of the plaque in
Lincoln Cathedral. Why was it not designed as a wall plaque rather than a part
of the floor? It just seems disrespectful. Well, tune in tonight to find out
the latest twist in that story.

Also tonight, we go behind the scenes into a school in Boston as they win a
national teaching award. We'll be finding out what's their secret to success.
Plus we'll be getting the latest on the new campaign to preserve the Yorkshire
accent and find out how The Deep in Hull is helping to save green turtles from
extinction. That’s all tonight on BBC One at half past six.

Last night we were talking about bank charges and how a judge in Hull has just
called on the high street banks to stand up in court and reveal the true costs
of those very expensive letters they send us! Simon in Driffield had something
to say about that! – “It can cost as much as £40 for an overdraft letter. Where
do they buy their stationery? Harrods?” Well, just a reminder that our
interviewee, Martin Lewis, has many useful tips on how to start your claim for
bank charges and many sample letters to send to the bank. His website is
www.moneysavingexpert.com. Take a look and good luck with your claim!

And there’s a note here from Bernice Christopher in Kirton-in-Lindsey. “Hi Tim,
Peter often mentions charity events for the weekends. Would you mention that
there is an Open Day, at Gerry Green's Dog sanctuary on Sunday 8th July at 12pm
till 5pm. This is held at their premises at Broughton, North Lincolnshire. This
marvellous organisation rely on charity from wherever it’s available. They do a
fantastic job for dogs, who are either no longer wanted, or from owners who can
no longer cope with them either as a result of illness or owners dying.” Thanks
Bernice for letting us know about that Open Day at Gerry Green’s Dog Sanctuary
near Broughton on Sunday. I hope it goes well.

That’s it from me. Have a very good day.

Tim
