Hello, it’s Tim Iredale here with the letter. Well today is my last day
standing in for Peter. He is back from his hols on Monday, so it’s be back to
the usual routine of Peter presenting the tea time and evening editions of Look
North.

May I thank everyone who has contacted the programme this week. No prizes for
guessing what the main topic of conversation has been. Yes the F-word, FLOODS!

Specifically many of you have reacted to the promises (or lack of them) made by
politicians. Let's just hope they can all work together now to help the
thousands of people whose lives have been turned upside down.

Today we'll be speaking live on Look North to Quentin Davies, the former Tory
MP for Grantham and Stamford who crossed the floor of the House of Commons to
join Labour. Mr Davies is facing his first public meeting in Grantham tonight
since he defected. I wonder what sort of reaction he will get?

Hull is no longer the forgotten city as the Archbishop of York pays a visit to
meet flood victims and volunteers. We'll have a special report.
And we’ll also be asking what lessons can be learnt from the natural disaster,
lots of finger pointing and criticism going on at the moment of course, but
will it and can it happen again?

Also tonight, what impact have the flash floods had on our region's wildlife?
It’s an interesting question, but of course we’ve all been thinking of the
human stories.

It's Derby weekend for Rugby League in the city of Hull. We'll have a preview
of the big match between the Robins and the Black and Whites.

And if you fancy something a bit different this weekend, it's the flat cap
throwing championships! It’s different all right!

That's all coming up on Look North today, I hope you can join me. We’ll also
have the weather forecast as always. Paul was hinting yesterday that we might
be in for a nicer weekend, so fingers crossed.

There are lots of weekend events to cover, but I would first like to mention
something happening in October. Ex-serviceman Ian Garmston is organising a
special "Trafalgar Night" at the KC Stadium in Hull to mark the 25th
anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. It should be a splendid evening,
attended by many of the brave lads who went to the South Atlantic. Proceeds are
going to the Teenage Cancer Trust and Make a Dream charities. Contact Ian on
07940 560243 or email him at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We also had an email from Claire in Grimsby who wanted a mention of a
production of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" at Grimsby's central Hall
on Saturday 7th July at 2:00pm. That’s tomorrow of course. Claire tells us that
her sister is playing the role of Charlie! Good luck to them, and I’m sure
it’ll be a great night if you can make it.

And lastly, we’re always hearing about the hoody menace on our streets these
days. I’m talking of course about those youngsters with hooded tops on so you
can’t see their faces. If you believe the papers, you can’t step out onto the
street without being accosted by a hoody. Well we had one positive story sent
into us which is a little bit different. Rachel who works at Castle Hill
Hospital sent us this:

“I just wanted to comment, I have come home and Victoria Dock is flooded and
the Police have closed the Alexandra Dock entrance into the village off. A big
thanks to the two young kids with hoods who have got off their push bikes on
the Mount Pleasant junction and warning drivers of the problems up to their
knees in water and soaked through.
These kids are brilliant! If they had not have been there I probably would
have ended up in the thick of it. Don’t judge a “Hoody” by its cover.”

So there you go!

Of course if there’s anything you want to comment on over the weekend or any
time, drop us an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and let us know about it. We also
gratefully receive photographs and also video clips these days, so keep us
informed! Peter’s back on Monday, so you can contact him as usual on [EMAIL
PROTECTED], and I’ll see you later today for Look North.
Have a good day

Tim
