Hello, this is Tim Iredale again with today’s letter. I’ll be on Look North
tonight with the day’s news. Thank you for your response to last night's
interview with the new Environment Secretary Hilary Benn. He said that
financial help would be available for flood-hit communities in Yorkshire and
Lincolnshire, but it does not sound like anything close to the amount that is
required.

In Hull, the council leader Carl Minns, says the city needs 100 million pounds
just to repair schools, not to mention the damage to housing and other
infrastructure. The newly-launched flood appeal will help families who've been
forced out of their homes, but the total clean-up bill in our region could
easily top one BILLION pounds.

Paul's back with the weather tonight after taking a well earned day off. He's
worked his socks off this past few days, providing the all important forecast.
Come on Paul, we now want some nice warm dry weather. It's surely not too much
to ask!

And we'll have the rest of the day's news, including have the horrific story of
the Hull woman bound, gagged and strangled by someone she knew, and we’ll have
coverage of the heavy sentence handed down to the man convicted today of her
murder.

We have the reaction of East Yorkshire residents to news that Prince Charles
won't be coming to the region despite visiting flood affected areas in South
Yorkshire. Well some people will see that as adding insult to injury,
especially as so many people are still struggling to rebuild their lives and
their homes. We’ll speak to people tonight and see what they think.

Speaking of floods, we’ll also speak to one health trust warning of a rise in
depression and anxiety in the aftermath of the recent events. If you’re worried
about your mental health after the flooding, don’t miss this.

The beleaguered football team Boston United have no team, no manager, and
they've been relegated twice in recent weeks, but now there could be a ray of
hope with news of a possible takeover. It’s an incredible story of collapse
they’ve suffered, and fans will be praying for a bit of good news, let’s hope
the club gets back on its feet soon.

And tonight we’ll meet the singing gardener who's now getting recognition for
his impression of a very famous star, it has to be seen to be believed!
Hopefully we’ll be getting a little blast of his musical talent on the
programme. And of course we’ll be getting the latest weather news with the
forecast. It feels like we’re still waiting for summer!

That's all on tonight's Look North with me Tim Iredale, join me at half past
six on BBC One.

I’m sure it’s not just BBC employees whose thoughts have been with the
kidnapped reporter Alan Johnston over the last few months. If you don’t know,
Alan is a BBC reporter working in Gaza who was kidnapped 114 days ago by a
militant group. Well today he was released, and I’m sure we’ll see a lot of him
in the news. Can you imagine being held captive for 114 days in solitary
confinement? Well in the pictures today he looks remarkably healthy and strong,
we BBC journalists are a tough breed! It’s good to see him free, alive and
well. It just highlights what dangers those people brave to bring us news from
some parts of the world, doesn’t it?

Now I know Peter mentions the Look North website a lot in the letter, and if
you haven’t had a look at it yet, you really should try it out. If you want to
watch the programme day or night, you can see it when you decide. You can also
watch video reports on our top stories. That’s at www.bbc.co.uk/looknorthhull.
It’s the way of the future, and of course lots more of the BBC’s programmes are
going to be available online though a new system called the BBC iPlayer. It’s
launching on the 27th of July, and you’ll be able to get BBC programmes over
the internet for a week after they’ve been transmitted. You’ll never miss an
episode of your favourite BBC programme again! The BBC reported the news on our
website last week, and you can read all about it at this link here
-http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6245062.stm. That looks fantastic, and
it’s all completely free as long as you pay your license fee. It’s the kind of
technology that really will change the way we watch televis!
ion, and we wait with baited breath for its launch.

As always, if you’ve got any news stories, pictures, or even videos you think
we should know about then you can send them in to [EMAIL PROTECTED] And while
Peter’s away, if there’s anything you want to have a say on in the letter, or
anything you want mentioned then you can send an email to the same address.

Well make sure you join me tonight for Look North, it’s at the usual time at
half past six, and we’ve got a special programme afterwards called Saving
Planet Earth, it’s presented by that bear of a man Brian Blessed, that’s at
seven tonight straight after Look North. Thanks for reading, that’s it for now
until tomorrow. I hope you have a good day.

Tim
