The "Trash" and "Compacting" need to be completely *separated* functions.

The normal user will not likely associate the two (I'm experienced and I
don't). If a user *marks* mails for deletion, he will *not* expect them
to be in the trash. And when he empties the trash, he DEFINETELY will
not expect the MARKED message to vanish from his INBOX.

Why should emtying the Trash folder clear out ones inbox? That doesn't
make sense from a users standpoint at all.

Users who mark messages for deletion (like me) do this for a reason,
namely because they are cautious and don't want to send something into
nirvana before thinking about it TWICE (1. marking, 2. compacting).
