Re: BMC MyIT
Looks like there hasn't been any new information on MyIT since end of April- is there anything new? I just got an email ad from BMC today and was looking through the archives for more info. If anyone is familiar with it, a couple questions I have are: -Based on the Licensing link, it appears its using the same Remedy licenses (e.g. we use the same licenses for MyIT as for Remedy User, etc.). Am I understanding this correctly? -How does it integrate with customized Remedy apps? Or, does it integrate solely with ITSM? If it helps, I'm just interested in the entry/viewing pieces, not so much on the self-help (e.g. engineer who is bringing up a new server for the first time can enter info on their phone, or perhaps even snap a picture with the phone's camera, and it makes a Remedy entry in Custom Form Servers or another engineer doesn't know what's on a server, so they take a snapshot of the serial number with their phone and everything we associated that server's record in Custom Form Servers is displayed on their phone). I might be pipe-dreaming on this though... ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years

User Client 7.6.3 7.6.4sp1: Tabs, Tables, Printing
Greetings list! We are (still) upgrading from our 6.0.3 Remedy server to a brand new (Ok- not that new...) 7.6.3 Remedy server. We encountered a new issue that I can't figure out or find in the Archives (spent about 30 minutes, but not really even sure what to look for). This new issue that we found is that, when trying to print the record details, if a Table field was displayed within a tab of a Page field and refreshed to show its corresponding data, then the printout would repeat the table over the upper left corner of the details, in addition to where the table belongs under the tab. The only way around this (that we can find) is to Print Preview first. The strange part is that it doesn't occur with ALL tab/table combinations (and we can't figure out why). For example, the form in question has 14 tabs (3 hidden). The first tab has 3 small tables, and various other tabs have between 1-4 tables. When Tabs 1 or 11 are selected and printed, they print just fine, everytime, without fail. When any of the other tabs that have information are printed, they print the double tables everytime without fail. I tried duplicating the properties of both the tabs and the tables from those that work to those that don't, but it has no effect. Using a development form, I tried to recreate the conditions of the tables that work, but always failed (except 1 time, which I haven't been able to reproduce). It seems that it is only an issue when there is a Tab/Table combination in play (we have many other custom forms as well, without tabs, that have no issues what-so-ever). We have even tried using 7.6.4 sp1 against our test server running the 7.6.3 server (as this combination resolved a number of other issues we were having, like strange characters when copying/pasting, and an error that occurs when a user chooses to accept the consequences of updating a record after another user has since the last Get time). All results are the same- we can't get rid of this ghost table image. Any ideas? Re: User Client 7.6.3 7.6.4sp1: Tabs, Tables, Printing
Good thought, but this happens to multiple printers. After fiddling a bit, I actually figured out why it happens to some but not others: In actuallity, it does happen to all of them, however, for those which are located at lower coordinates on their respective page, the printout is reprinting the tables using the same coordinates and layered between the fields and the Page field. Example: If a table is located at Page1 X:1, Y:1, then the table is reprinted at MainForm X:1, Y:1. If its at Page1 X:200, Y:200, then the reprint is Main X:200, Y:200. If the Page Field itself is at Main X:199, Y:199, and covers the same or larger area as the table, then the Page field covers it. I tried to place a box field behind the fields, but the reprint is layered above the fields, so this doesn't help. How to do Double Dynamic values?
Greetings List! I tried searching the archives for this, but always came up with too much or not enough, so I must not be searching for the right thing. Basically, I have add a From field to our ARS version 6.3 AR System Email Template form so that the From can be set without needing to make changes in AR Admin client. The end result is going to be to give managers of departments the ability to maintain their own notifications (they update an interface, it pushes values and HTML templates to the AR System Email Template form, and those values are used in the notification Filter/Escalation). While this currently works great for hardcoded values (e.g. supp...@company.com), its not working so great for dynamic values (e.g. $User's Email$)- it is coming out from $User's email$@company.com - I mean, it is this exactly, not being translated to the value on the Form in the 'User's Email' address field. If a Manager changes their mind (again) and changes from a dynamic value to a hard value (or vice verse), I have to keep going into AR Admin to change How do I essentially do a double dynamic, to make it recognize the value as a Field variable instead of a solid value? Maybe I am going about this the wrong way? I thought of doing a push back to the Template, but would prefer not to, as I don't want to risk two users activating the same notification at the same time, and the External Function isn't available (only Keywords and fields) Any thoughts? ARS Client 7.6 Copy/Paste Issues
Greetings List! We are upgrading from 6.3 to 7.6 (finally!) We are upgrading clients first, since they are compatible with the 6.3 server and we are unable to upgrade everything simultaneously. One thing we noticed is that when users of 7.6 clients copy/paste from emails, websites, etc., strange characters are being added- everything from c and . to , %, {, and even non-Western characters (I think I even saw the Japanese Yen symbol once). Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything in the BMC KM or the List Archives (not really even sure what to look for) so apologies if this is a repeat. It seems completely random- not specific to plain text, rich text, or HTML text being copied (in my own personal experience). The issue this presents is that the extra character causes false negative responses in workflow objects. For example, if an email address is copied/pasted, Enter key is pressed, previous contacts from that email address should be returned, but the extra character make this false (as well as prevents the current contact from being presented when this process occurs for the same address in the future). And since it does not *always* add a character, I can't even write a workflow object to strip the last character off. Once we were aware of what was happening, of course we had users remove the character themselves (but you know how silly those human beings can be- they always forget or miss some here and there ;) ). Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks in advance for your help! Upgrade planned - to ARS 7.5 Windows 7
Greetings List! I am hoping someone will have information, as it seems rather scarce. We are upgrading our Remedy system from 6.03 to 7.5 (yay!) and some of our client-side OS to Windows 7 (still undecided if this is a yay or nay). Haven't found much on the compatability between these two (List, ARS Wiki, BMC support site), only that there are some issues with the ARS Client on W7. The ARS Server itself will still run on the same *nix OS its been running on. I think we are upgrading the DB to Oracle 10 or 11 something or other (don't know these details) Anyone happen to know more (I'm guessing at this point its not a supported combination)? Incidently, anything we should watch out for in our ARS upgrade (we pretty much use the client independently, just a few Crystal Reports 11- as in I run them for everyone else and disperse a finished product). Re: Methods to display PopUp window on mutliple user's client screen without using Remedy Alert client
We are still on 6.3, but I did something similar to Gary, with a twist. We have several customers and each customer we record infromation for has their own schema. I created a display only form with a page field and a tab for each customer, a s well as a table, and an AL that refreshes the table regularly. For each tab, I also created a Notify On field so the user could choose when they wanted to be alerted (e.g. if a Priority column has a record with a High Priority value, etc.) and a Warning would pop-up. I also threw in a few other bells whistles - an option for the Managers to select their employees so the manager quickly view what is assigned to each employee, a button to open the selected record from the table, using a table loop in the event multiple records are selected, the ability to modify certain fields within the table (which also grants the ability to users to do a Modify All without actually using Modify All that has caused some issues for us in the past), row counts so the user can see how many in each table, and it seems to be a very handy tool. Hope this helps! Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug10 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: how to implement a carriage return
Serouche, Yes! We've done this- all you have to do is select the option Return/Table Dbl-Clk and select the field that your users must be in when they press Return/Enter. The only condition is that the field can only be 1 row tall- if it is more than 1, then the system enters a carriage return as text in the field. If your field is 1 row, your users will have to open the Expand Box to input any carriage returns they desire. Hope this helps! I don't have any solutions yet (we are still struggling ourselves), but here's what we've tried (in case it gives anyone any ideas): 1) It appears to be a Windows general fault message 2) It only occurs to us when we are using workflow that runs on Press Return and tries to set fields (there are one or two select other circumstances, however, this one is the most common) 3) It is only occuring to some of our users, not all 4) Those that it occurs to is using Windows 2000 Prof Remedy 6.0.3 patch 18 (we thought Patch 18 would resolve the issue and it didn't). We've worked with our Remedy support and they have said that it was a Windows issue, and we've worked our Administrators and they've said its a Remedy issue. Email template - Issue with Dynamic Template Names
List~ I'm experiencing an issue using dynamic template names. I have several buttons on one of our forms, each sends a different HTML Template. To consolidate workflow and make things a bit easier to use, I'm try to have each button set a temp field with the Template name, then have 1 Filter use the temp field to read which email should be sent. Instead, what is happening is that the HTML Template isn't being read at all, and the notification that goes out is the old Remedy 4.5 Style notification (the 'ugly' list of fields and values). I have the filter set with the Content field as $Temp Field$, and the HTML Template name was copied pasted into the workflow that sets the Temp Field, so I know it is exactly correct. The Template Name is Customer - Missing docs (not sure if the - is causing any trouble, I wouldn't think so). Does anyone know how to set the Template name dynamically? Re: Sending emails in HTML format
Mike, Just curious, do you have your template entries set to HTML? Thanks in advance for your help! Shawn Stonequist Remedy 6.3 EMNS _ From: Mike Balogh [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, November 02, 2007 8:34 AM Subject: Sending emails in HTML format ** Hi everyone - I'm working with a 6.03 server and email engine to try to send a certain email notification formatted as html (as I've done many times before on other servers). I've setup html header and footer templates with attached images. And specified those header and footer templates in the approprate place on the filter that sends the notification. In addition, the message body contains content which includes html tags. When the message is sent, however, the content is only placed in the Plain Text Body field on the AR System Email Messages form. The HTML Body field is left blank. On the email client end, the html tags are still interpreted properly but the formatting is a mess and the embedded images do not display. On the AR System Email Messages form, if I create an identical email record to be sent, but copy and paste the content out of the Plain Text Body field of the original email and into the HTML Body field of the new email, the formatting is fine and the embedded images display properly when received. So my question is: How do I force the email engine to send the notification as html instead of plain text? What does it look for that would indicate that the message being sent should be formatted as html? Every other server I've ever worked with in this regard has done so without issue. View Thread ID Details?
Greetings List!! I'm wondering if there is anyway that can be used to view specific thread IDs. I ask because it seems every Monday, between 8am 10am, our ARServer slows significantly. We've held off doing various Monday Morning reports backups, but without any improvement. Our DB believes that the issue is being caused by a thread, but can't tell which one. I ran our Thread Logging in the System Config, but I only got ID's and when they started (2, but only just after we received the complaint about the Server's performance). Unfortunately, this log doesn't say *what* these threads were doing. It is my hope that, by finding out what these threads are doing (even if I have to start the Thread Logging on the previous Friday, weekends are low-to-no activity anyway) we can determine what is causing this issue- errant search? user with a bad query? automated system? etc. Huge thanks in advance to all!!! 6.3 Mid Tier Search Question
Listers, I implore your help once again!!! We just setup Mid Tier, so please forgive what may be a silly question. Once of the things that we found (but can't explain), is that it seems that the $NULL$ keyword works differently. For instance, while running a search with the NULL keyword in a particular field (specifically, !=$NULL$), there were 0 results returned. When we did the same in the User Client, or used the Advanced Search (for both User Mid Tier), then we received 277 results. After investigating the logs, we found that by using the Fields on Mid Tier, the SQL did: Table.Field != '' Using the same logs, and running the search by Advanced Search or the User client, we found that the SQL did: Table.Field IS NOT NULL Is there a reason for this that anyone is aware of? Is there a way to make it behave itself (sorry, bad pun)? HUGE thx in advance Shawn Stonequist EMNS Inc. Import Issues - 6.3
Greetings List!! I'm running into something strange while doing an import. I have the preferences set to update records, and have mapped the Request ID field. For some reason, the import tool complains that Field ID 8 is missing (which, it shouldn't, it should be updating existing Request ID, which already has Field ID 8 filled in). So I map it (its not like this field is changing so I don't care as much). When I check the User Tool, I now have twice as many records as I started with. Table Loop Update issue - 3rd action of a guide not running
Greetings List!! Another Table Loop issue I'm hoping you can help with! Many thanks in advance!! I've got an Active Link (executes on a button) that runs an Active Link Guide that includes 3 active links, and has 1 label just before the 3rd AL. The 3rd AL refreshes the table, sets some temp fields based on the refreshed table, then sets a Diary Field with the values of those temp fields. When Table Looping is off, this works perfectly (though of course, only works on 1 row per button press). With Table Looping on, the Guide seems to completely ignore the last Active Link. According to the Logs, the Guide runs, checks the first and second links, runs the appropriate one, then goes to the Label and stops. This is perfect except for the fact that it stops too soon, and I see no reason for it to do so. A little more detail if its helpful: The first two AL are set to check the Status in the table, and if its not theirs push their value to the child record (e.g. the Active Status AL only runs if the Status is Inactive and vice verse for the second one), then uses a Go to Label action to ensure that the other AL is skipped. (here is where it all ends when Table Loop is turned on). The third AL refreshes the table, sets the temp fields in the first set fields action, then uses a second set field action to set the Diary field. Any ideas? Again, thanks in advance for your help!!! Re: Attachement Updation - File Contents Changed
Just a thought, but instead of attaching the files directly to the request you are on, what if it was a child form, with a Submit-Only, single field, attachment pool? This way, to upload a new attachment, a new child record has to be created, and you know who when did it. This would also keep historical records, you could compare the file at each and every stage/change that took place, or if you don't need this, you could simply delete the previous records. I've not worked through this completely, so I'm not sure what complications might arise (though, immediately I can think of the fact users will have to open the child record before they can get to the attachment) . View Field HTML Email Templates
Greetings List!!! I've setup a series of HTML Email templates for one of our customers that successfully sends under various conditions when the end-user list in the entry has an email address- everything works perfectly! Now, this customer wants to be able to make a printout to be snail-mailed to end-users that do not have email addresses. I had two thoughts on how to do this, but neither has been successful: 1) Create a View Field, with a Set Field action that pulls the HTML Email Template, then the user can right-click and print. 2) Send the user to an HTML webpage that displays the HTML Email Template. I prefer #1, since any updates will be applied to both x-mails at the same time, however, on neither of these options have I been able to get the values to populate (e.g. #$$Last Name$$# in the email is still #$$Last Name$$# in the View field, even though the Last Name should display Smith instead). Any ideas? My only other thought was to email the user, and they would then print from their email, though this would involve several more steps and a waiting period, which they would prefer to avoid. Re: Need Help with Dynamic Date-based criteria for Escalations
John, Thanks for the advice!! Unfortunately, I've tried yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and still it doesn't show, even though using the same for the 9 month criteria does produce results. Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far: I have 2 similar escalations- one that is triggered approximately 9 months (270 days or 23328000 seconds) prior to the value of a Date field, the other that is triggered approximately 6 months (180 days or 15552000 seconds) prior to the value of the same Date field. While there are other criteria used, they are the same for both escalations. When I copy my 9 month search criteria into the Form against which it runs, I received 36 results. This corresponds to the emails that were sent this morning when the 9 month escalation ran- so I know that the criteria itself is correct. When I replace the number of seconds used with that the 6 month criteria (15552000), I receive no results. On a test form, I setup 2 Date fields and a button. When the button is pressed, it adds the number of seconds I have for each escalation to the Date keyword, and displays the results. The 9 month field produces a date of 3/31/08. This corresponds to the value of the Date field of 36 accounts- each of these was issued an email this morning when the escalation ran. The 6 month field produces a date of 12/31/07. This corresponds to the value of the Date field of 428 accounts. None of these accounts received any email notices this morning. I have even tried replacing the 15552000 with (60*60*24*180)- it still failed. Can you please help me to understand why the dynamic date figure is preventing the escalation from being triggered? Re: Need Help with Dynamic Date-based criteria for Escalations
Carey, Not a problem- I appreciate the suggestion! The field was created while we were still on 4.5- so while it only displays the Date, it is behaving like a Date/Time. I added the number of days as I thought it might help clarify the situation (apologies for having done the opposite). I setup a test account with an Expire Date of 1/1/08 (as I had none that were naturally occurring already), and 15552000 +/- 86400 should work regardless (either 428 for 12/31 or 9 for 1/2/08). Many thanks in advance!!! Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are
Re: include a blank value at the top of an 'on search' menu
Neel , We've got some of these- I built a form with 4 fields- Menu Name, Menu Label, Menu Value, Status. Basically, for each blank we want, we choose the Search Menu that it is to be added to, set the Status to Active, then save without a Label or Value. Email List Issues - Remedy 6.3
Greetings List! I wasn't able to find anything in the archives or the manuals, so I'm hoping you can help me. We have a list of checkboxes that we want to send in an Email. When saved, the values ($Checkbox$) is saved into a field Email Body, then setting the Text field to Unfortunately, if checkboxes are NOT selected, this may leave several empty lines in the email. I tried using REPLACE($Email Body$, ||, ), however, this defeats the purpose of the line break to begin with and pushes all the values into a single string that isn't easy to read. I've put into place the following set field action: REPLACE($Email Body$, ||, |), which improves the matter by cutting the line breaks in half, however, there are still empty line breaks (e.g. 6 empty lines between values becomes 3 empty lines between values). The only other thing I can think of is 1 Active Link per Checkbox- if checked, then add to the Email Body field. I'd prefer not to have 1 AL per Checkbox- is this the only way to do this? Thx in advance!!! Shawn Stonequist EMNS Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are
Crystal Question: Arrays
Greetings List! I'm trying to run a Crystal Report using Data from Remedy. In one field I have a menu which sets values such as Value1: SubValue1 Value1: SubValue2 Value2: SubValue1 etc. I'm trying use the Split command to break these apart so I can group the SubValues by the Value in a Cross-Tab. I've got the formula for the Split, but I can't figure out how to use this to grab the first element created and display it so that I can use it in the groupings. Is there a way to do this? Or, is there another way to break this one field into two (e.g. like Excel's Text to Columns using a Delimiter of :)? I've poured through the Crystal Help, but it wasn't helpful- when I seemed to get a valid solution, I was told that I needed to script the array, example: Array [i]. When I put the Split into the brackets, it said that the rest wasn't part of the equation. Thanks in advance for your help!!! Re: User tool abruptly closes the session.
List, We are seeing the same issue as Girish. I do not believe this problem is related to the Preference Server- we were on 4.5 until last September, and we had been having this issue for at least 1 year prior to that. After upgrading, we still see the issue. We just started using the Preference Server, but this has not affected the frequency of the issue. What we did notice was that our users that are on XP have never seen this issue at all. Our users on WIN2K have this problem frequently (as many as 3 times in an hour). We aren't sure the OS is the key though, as our XP Users don't use Remedy as much. As well, we've noticed that this occurs 95% of the time when an Active Link's Set Fields action is run (maybe there is something in the AL and this is only a coincidence). Girish, Do your XP users have this problem as well? Is it occurring when specific actions are taken? Just wondering. As for the questions I was attempting to ask: I'm wondering if anyone has details on how Remedy Indexing actually works- e.g. does Remedy simply send the Indexing to the underlying database, then the underlying database (i.e. Oracle) does whatever it does with Indexes? Or? Also, is there a way to activate Case-Insensitive searching? We used to have this with FTS on 4.5, but don't see anything comparable in 6.3 that we are now using. As always, thanks in advance!! Remedy 6.3 Manage Licenses (Last Access Time Issue)
Greetings List!!! I'm experiencing something unusual with the Manage License in the Admin Tool. Ever since we upgraded from 4.5 to 6.3, it seems that the Last Access Time is always the same as the Connect Time. For instance, my own login has been on since 6:41 this morning, and 6:41 is the Last Access time, however, I've been using my login steady since then in both User Admin tools. In 4.5, the Last Access Time would update to whenever the user last saved. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore (I have closed and reopened the Manage License dialogue, so I know I'm not looking at a previous snapshot). Is this the way it should be with 6.3? If not, does anyone know what is wrong or how to fix it? Thank you VERY much in advance! Shawn ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

Performance Issues caused by User Queries - Remedy 6.3/Oracle 10.0.2
Greetings List!! We have an issue in which some users (we know not who) are running queries which are affecting the performance of our Remedy system, causing significant delays, issues, and even complete system lock-ups for all our Users. We have three goals that we would like to accomplish: 1) Identify the user(s) and what they are doing 2) Prevent future performance degradation of this nature 3) Stop offending queries in progress should prevention be not possible to bypassed in some manner, using a method other than rebooting our database (as this brings all our users down, which is what we are trying to remedy) We are interested in any possible solutions or paths to accomplish one or more of these goals. We spoke with our Remedy Partner that provides our support, but unfortunately, their best resolution was using User/API/SQL Logging Remedy-side. Unfortunately, for this to be successful, we would need to know before the offending query is run, or have it always running (something our SA is against due to system resource concerns) Our SA provided me the following information concerning our configuration, which may be helpful (I apologize that I don't know what it all means): Distributed Server Remedy 6.3.0 patch 018 Oracle 10.0.2 Monolithic We look forward to and appreciate any assistance available. Crystal Reports - Default Date Parameters
Greetings again List! I was unable to locate anything in the Archives- if anyone knows I'd be most grateful. Basically, is there a way to set a Crystal Reports Data Range parameter which defaults to Yesterday, whatever that may be? Thx in advance! Sending Data to View Fields
Greetings List! I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to send data to URL/Website from the Remedy form fields to the URL when it is displayed in a View Field? Thx in advance! Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are
Re: Character Fields
Lisa, Depending on what version of Remedy you are using, there are two solutions: 1) In Remedy 6.3, you can use an Active Link 'Change Field' to change the color 2) This one will take a little more work, but in Remedy 4.5 you can give your character field no label, then create Text fields that appear/hide as needed in the varying colors that you want (if I recall correctly, 4.5 will require that you list the Text field as a hyperlink- I used to just refer it to a file and put a transparent box over it so that users couldn't click on it). We didn't have anything between 4.5 and 6.3, so I'm not sure what those versions offer. HTH Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. Crystal Reports Question - Parsing a Diary Field
Greetings List! This question is about Crystal Reports 11. I'm trying to create a which, among other things, finds a key phrase in a diary field, then returns the date/time/user stamp of the entry that contains the key phrase. Does anyone have any idea how this can be accomplished? Thx in advance!!! Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org
Question about object-prop values
Greetings List! We were reviewing exported definitions from our new 6.3 Remedy. We saw a number of workflow objects had a line of code at the end for object-prop. We did some checking and were told that this has something to do with Web Aliases, however, this doesn't seem to 'fit', since the object-prop differs, or in some cases doesn't appear at all, for workflow on the same form. Does anyone have more information on this or confirmation of what this is for? Thx in advance! Shawn Stonequist EMNS, Inc. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org

Re: Upgrading Remedy - 4.5 to 6
Thanks everyone who responded!!! All this information will be most helpful!!! If anyone else has any/more advice/tips/info- it would be most welcome. We've been on 4.5 for almost 6 years and this is my first upgrade (our SA is receiving help from our Remedy Support too). Our start/end config is similar to Mike White's if this helps. Upgrading Remedy - 4.5 to 6
Greetings List! We are currently working on upgrading our Remedy from 4.5 to 6 (woo hoo!) and have new servers, databases, etc. that we will be using. In the past when we've migrated/moved our Remedy, we have moved the data by exporting it through the User Client (our largest form was only 45k entries, followed by a 25k entry form). Today however, we have at least a dozen forms with 60k+ (several with 200k+) and are encountering timeouts and other performance issues when trying to export the data to be moved. The last time we tried moving the data from one DB to the new DB, it all but blew up. We are wondering if anyone else has had to move (what we consider) large amounts of data and knows of a more efficient way to do this. Thank you VERY much in advance for your assistance!
