[Dx4win] Re: QRZ CDROM

John,
I have the same problem and have not been able to resolve the issue after
trying the usual suggestions. If you get it
working, please post your results.
Thanks,

directory, replacing the existing one there).

Did QRZ change something out underneath? I have been having the same lack of
success with another log program too, so it may be them and not me :-)

[Dx4win] QRZ Data

2008-09-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Guys, I hate to ask this question because, according to the archives and Jim's
website, the
problem was resolved in 2006. However, I can't get QRZ to work with my 7.0.3
version. I tried
installing it in the root of my C drive and also the default location. I have
also tried 2
different qrz32.dll files, but I am still geting the error that it can't find
the data. The QRZ
CDROM is the summer 2008 version.
Any ideas what I need to try next?

[Dx4win] DXCC Submission

2008-03-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'm not doing something right. I have dxcc (100), and I made double
sure that the card
was marked checked so it wouldn't be counted again.
I really don't know how to bring up a report showing me how many new
countries I
have worked since my original submission. I tried submission report
but that brought
up 75 countries, and I know I haven't worked that many new one', and
it also showed
me calls that have already been submitted. I looked at those cards
and they show
checked in the dxcc box.
Maybe DX4WIN doesn't give the type of report I'm looking for.
Be kind as I have a 69 year old brain. If all else fails I'm going to
do everything manually.

[Dx4win] Multiple QSOs change on QSO NOTES

2008-02-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Guys, thanks for the answer. Actually, after adding the text into the
QSOs I will export them (adif) to be reconsolidated in another Logging
program. So separating it by groups will not help, because the resulting
LOG will not be used in DXWIN any longer. I would really need to have a
text somewhere in the QSO record.

I thought that someone would have written a routine to add chars in the
qso notes.

The idea to move to a CSV file and reimport the log is good.

Regards Fred

 Fred,

You can export into a csv(txt) file and add a txt to each qso
Then modify/create a filter where you import the specific text also
 In the QSO notes field

Or Like Jim wrote give the logs a different group number

[Dx4win] DXCC SUBMISSION

2008-02-13 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am setting up my dxcc award and need some assistance.
I have already submitted 100 cards and received my dxcc
certificate. This was done before dx4win program was being used.
I have imported all my qso's into dx4win and everything is working
just fine.
How do I tell dx4win the cards that have already been submitted for dxcc,
so that they don't get mixed up with the cards that have not been submitted.

Thank you...73.Bob

[Dx4win] I use AFSK

2008-02-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I use AFSK for RTTY because it was the easiest to do and only used a
sound card.
Of course AFSK uses LSB and DX4WIN see' this as SSB, so when the
contact is over and
before I log the contact I switch my Kenwood TS-850sat over to FSK,
this changes
the mode in the logging program to RTTY and then I save it.
Obviously this is fine for the occasional RTTY contact, but during a
contest this is somewhat of a pain.
I'm wondering what it would take to go FSK. Is there some unit I can
buy to interface the computer and rig.
I have a Rigblaster, but that doesn't do FSK. Anyone care to tackle
this ...Bob

Kostas , it should be the last row, i'm not sure since when i first discover it

found some qsos i were sure to have printed.
So i sarted to pay attention and tried several more times ... and it should be

the right number of pages he's going to print.
I've even tried not to print the qsl method to gain some space ... but

[Dx4win] Re: State information

2007-12-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I find it interesting that we've not heard from the programmers - at
least, not that I've seen. And thank you to Jim for at least looking
into this situation and trying to find an answer.

The fact that it happened, and to so many people, suggests to me that
it truly is a bug that needs to be found and killed.

I, too, lost state/county info, BUT not 100% (and I don't see a pattern
as to which Qs still have the info vs those that don't), It would be
interesting to know if the data truly are gone, or if they're in some
file somewhere, and DX4Win is just not able to read things correctly
- and a fix can be had

Exactly how, I can't say. The 50 states themselves are part of the

released
a couple of days ago, you'll fix the corrupted country file problem,
but
it will not fix your log if you have saved it while using the corrupted

replace existing qso with imported one (TNX Dave G3NKC). the only
thing you will be losing is the USA qsls received from the time of the
last good back up till date (so you have to re-enter them)

I hope this will help

[Dx4win] CONTACTS ADDED TO DXCC ERRONEOUSLY

2007-11-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Would someone please assist me with a problem that developed after I
downloaded the Country file that was modified on 3 Nov., '07??

I have been using version 7.01, and the main purpose has been to secure the
DXCC award. I had 84 confirmed countries as printed by Reports - DXCC -
Submission.

After the download my confirmed list keeps growing WITHOUT any new
contacts, and the printout is now 91, and all of the 7 new ones are for Japan.
These 7 new contacts did not appear all at once; they appeared one at a time,
and only after I closed and reopened the program - DX4WIN.

After I downloaded the new Country file, I did not merge it with the old
CTY file. I simply moved the old file out of the SAVE and put the new CTY
file into the SAVE folder. I believe these JA calls are being added to my
award list because of an incorrect setting in the Change Award Flags.
However, I do not know what settings should be use to correct this problem.

Also, I do not know how to remove these 7 erroneous JAPAN contacts from the
DXCC Award without removing them totally from my log.

Any and all help will certainly be very much appreciated.

Bill, I am not sure the country file is to blame.

Use the F5 key on your QSO window several times until you see the award
flags at the bottom. For each of those JA QSOs, see if any of the flags
are set, and if so, clear them.

John, since most of my QSLs are set up to go via the bureau, I designate
the QSO for which I want a label as in the METHOD slot of the QSO
window. You can use any METHOD designation that you are not using for
QSLs. Then when you go to print labels, select that method in the QSL
METHOD slot of the first window that appears. The number of QSLs to
print should change to 1. Then go ahead and print.

I have my FT-450 partially working with the DX4WIN Logbook program. I
say partially because the split functions do not seem to be working. I
am using the FT-2000-V8i driver in the program, and have the radio
CAT TOT set for 3000. The program seems to do OK unless there is
 a split frequeny involved, in
which case either the radio or the program seems to get lost, the
radio times out in the program, and I have had to turn the radio
off/on to re-establish communication between the radio and logbook.
Does anyone have any additional information and/or help please?

Hi Vic,

I don't think you're the first person to mention problems with Kenwood radios
using split. Are you running the latest DX4WIN 7.03?

CAT TOT set for 3000. The program seems to do OK unless there is
  a split frequeny involved, in
which case either the radio or the program seems to get lost, the

off/on to re-establish communication between the radio and logbook.

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi Folks,

I can verify that DX4WIN does have a keep-alive function for telnet DX cluster
connections. You can read more about it on this web page:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/cluster.htm

We had Qwest DSL, and now Comcast Broadband at the new QTH in CO, and my DX
cluster connection does NOT stay up by itself. Using the keep-alive
functionality described on the web page, I can maintain a full-time connection.

I also found that DX4WIN's keep-alive function caused some problems with CC
Cluster, but Lee VE7CC fixed the problems relatively quickly.

I hope to update the DX4WIN.TCP file some time this weekend, but I've been
saying that for a couple of weeks now. I might get to the country file also.

 No complaints with either rig.

[Dx4win] PSK31 HELP WITH A SIGNALINK USB...

2007-06-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi,

I would like to run PSK31 through DX4WIN, but I am having problems
setting-up my Tigertonics Signalink USB. I've got it working fine on Digipan as
 a
separate App, so I know everything works, but I would prefer to use the PSK31
software as part of DX4WIN.

I can't seem to get DX4WIN to recognise the SL1 USB soundcard interface -
Can anyone help?

For the record, I'm running Win XP, FT-857D AND DX4WIN Ver 7.02.15.

Thanks in advance,

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have a problem that my limited computer skills simply are not coping
with!

I am setting up a computer for my friend, and am trying to get a IC746
to talk to his computer.

Despite ALL of the various software computations tried, none will make
the Icom talk to DX4Win - DX4Win simply says that the 'Radio timed out'.

I loaded Ham Radio Deluxe on to his computer, did the set up, and presto
- the Icom cheerfully talks away to HRD. It took all of 90 seconds to
achieve.

BTW, tried all this (ie all of the above) on various ports, via serial,
and also with USB - same result, always. No go for DX4Win, OK for HRD!

As an aside, his version of DX4Win is 6.04, mine is 7.03 - makes no
difference.

So, may I conclude that the hardware is OK - now for the software!!

I am using the latest version of XP - by that, I meant, as far as I am
aware, the very latest XP update has been downloaded to my computer.

Is there some setting within XP that I should alter? Other than this
small effort at understanding! What the problem might be, I have no clue
as to what may be my problem.

Can anyone be of assistance, please.

[Dx4win] Adding a new country to database

2007-06-06 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I am stumped. I want to add a new country, Montenegro, to my ver 5.03.
I already have previously successfully added the earlier new ones months
back but now am stuck using the FAQ notes. After filling all the
requested fields, I go to step 6 in the instructions (Select
Mappings|Add) . I get a Command not executed. Going to correct
pageBut what do I do then? If I click OK and go on, then a
similar warning sign shows up after step 9.

Maybe my third word in the above text should read, stupid.

I don't need all these bells and whistles for my DX logging and am
totally baffled by the instructions for installing new CTY updates so
have always before been able to do it the hard way/manually one at a time
as they come into being. All my DXing for the past 10 years has been
entirely as a mobile so no need for niceties like cluster work, radio
control, etc. All I need is a database that keeps track of my off-line
entered contacts and country score. Anyone know of a simpler program I
could move to?

Thanks

Hi Bud, and the reflector...

I like to edit the country database by hand, too...

To add a new country, you may following these steps:

1) On the main menu: File Databases Countries

2) On the Country Editor: Country Add, and then fill the fields in the
upper part of the window and those in the Details tab. Before going to any
other tab, click on Country Update.

3) Click on the Mappings tab, then click on Mapping Add, and add any
mapping prefix for the new country. You may press Ctrl-Insert or
Ctrl-Delete to insert or delete a line. Before going to any other tab,
click on Mappings Update.

4) If you want to add some specific callsigns to the country, click on the
Callsigns tab, then click on Calls Add, and add the callsigns. As before,
you may press Ctrl-Insert or Ctrl-Delete to insert or delete a line. Before
going to any other tab, click on Calls Update.

5) Click on File Check for Errors, to detect any error in the database.
If any (mostly overlapping of some prefixes), correct them before closing
the Country Editor.

6) Once satisfied with the changes, click on File Save and Exit.

Duane,

I tried to explain this problem to Paul at Dayton, he was not able to grasp
it. I had written a memo, but he did not see the issue. I am now writing a
more detailed memo that outlines this problem which I hope to forward to
Paul in a week or two. Paul does not understand that changing the Confirmed
QSO preferences from Card to Lotw does not work for DXCC Submissions. I
just need to find the time to finish screen shots that document the problem
as you also describe it. Let's hope we can convince Paul to address this
issue. It's a major shortcoming to DX4WIN.

I've stumbled across what looks like a problem. In preparing a DXCC
 submission, I find the following:

 1. First, set preference to use only card in hand, then do a DXCC
 Submission. Result? ~32 cards selected
 2. Clear all DXCC submission flags.
 3. Set Confirmed QSO preference to Card and Upload and do a DXCC
Submission. Result ~ 80 QSO's listed (OK, so far)
 4. Clear all DXCC Submission flags.
 5. Set confirmed QSO pref to Upload and do a DXCC Submission. Result?
 314 QSO's!! Clearly wrong.

Obviously DX4WIN is somehow not counting the already submitted cards when
it does uploads. Since these all relate to the same DXCC award, this
would appear to need some work.

Another item: Where is version 7.03 on the US web site? I had to go to
ON4AOI's site to pick it up so I could update my version.

[Dx4win] Problems automating telnet connection

2007-01-29 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Ian,

IF I'm understanding your question correctly, the solution is fairly simple:

Edit the dx4win.tcp file in your Save directory (any text editor should
work), and move K7AR to the top of that list. Then save.

Once you start up DX4WIN, and you're ready to connect to a cluster, simply
put your cursor in the cluster window (click, so the window is active) and hit
the enter key 3 times. Wham, you'll be at the sign in prompt of K7AR. All
you're doing is taking the default answer 3 times, so you need not type a
thing.

Hope that's what you're after.

Steve

OK. I need to know which of my many Homer moments is behind this ;). I'm

window and created a 'BYE' key. That was a no-brainer.

But getting into the K7AR (or, I presume, any other) node seems to require a
bit more knowledge of rocket science than I currently posses! At first, I
tried just replacing 'N3RR' (where did that come from, anyway?) with 'K7AR'.
But that got me nowhere. Then, I tried every mutation of the string
(contained in the dx4win.tcp file) for K7AR I can imagine. But after getting
nowhere with that, either, I'm still having to click on the 'connect' button
and scroll through the pop-up list of connections that comes up 'til I find
the one for K7AR, click on it, click OK, blah, blah, blah.

Surely this isn't the only to do this. What am I missing here?

I can't cut it down to one button (or make it fully automatic, alas) but
this is what I do to at least minimize the keystrokes.

I edit the dx4win.tcp file to place my preferred node (in my case N7TR) at
the very beginning of the file, so when Select Internet Address window
opens, the cursor is already sitting on it. Then I have one soft key
programmed with my call.

So the drill is I right click on the Packet window and then select
Internet Connection, hit OK on the Select Internet Address window
(since N7TR is already selected at the top of the list), hit the soft key
with my call sign and then the soft key with SH/DX. Viola! Four clicks
and I'm all set. (Three clicks if you don't count the SH/DX.)

I would love to have an automatic connection script, but this is about as
streamlined as I can get it.

I only use DX4WIN v 6.04; I never did pay for the last upgrade to V7 !

However; there are import filters under File Import/Exportfor Turbolog
(mine shows versions 3.08 onwards; 3.11 onwards , and 2.21 onwards.

The other option is to import ADIF (which I use most of the time from
contest files)

I am sure it should be successful; if you want to be sure; send me a
personal file in one of the forms above and I will convert it for you (in
demo mode, you have some limitations; either QSO quantity or no saving of
the log.

Have been using DX4WIN for quite a few years Bob; and it is THE programme
that I use for all my logging / QSLling / awards chasing

Dave

I'm considering moving to DX4Win. Has anyone successfully moved a Turbolog 4
log over please ?

Also I saw some spots questioning the accuracy of the latest V7.02 Is it a

[Dx4win] Cable interface

2006-12-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi guys..!

which kind of cable PC-to-radio do you use with DX4WIN..? Is it a normal
CAT cable..? I would like to try some PSK31 and RTTY from the program now

Thank´s,

I have downloaded the MMTTY program v1.65D. Can I start it from DX4WIN..?
Or, are they separate programs...? When I run it from DX4WIN I get two
empty windows there. Which kind of interface do I need to make it
running..? I have a G4ZLP interface, with serial port, will work with
MMTTY/DX4WIN..? Sorry so many questions, but I did some RTTY years ago and
was not with DX4WIN. Thank´s your help.

Thabnks for the tip. It worked fine Fred

 Hi Fred and the reflector...

Is there a way to convert my actual logfile into a dx4win.dta file ?
 Thanks

 1) With your log open, File (main window) Import/Export Calls only
 for
master calls Export. Choose a name for your text file (ex.
 calls.txt)

 2) Close the Import/Export window. Now inside the MasterLookup window,
right clic Convert, navigate to the file you made in step 1), write
down its name (ex. calls.txt) Open. Note it is not a .dta file, but
the calls.txt (or whatever name you gave to it in step 1).

(I found it in the help file)

Fred

Under the Window menu choose Master Calls. It will give an error box if
no dx4win.mas file. Click OK. Then you get a MasterLookup box. Right
click in that box and choose convert. Select the master.dta file you
 want to convert.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN with IC-756PROIII

2006-11-24 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Could someone help me on this?

I am using DX4WIN version 7.02.15 under windows 2000. I have a FT1000MP
connected to the computer working fine with DX4WIN.

I have installed RigTalk in order to add an Icom 756PROIII as a second
radio. Rig talk has been installed successfully. The 756PROIII works 100%
with TRX Manager. So RigTalk is working fine.

I have configured preferences for the second radio using 756PROIII default
entry, the corresponding COM port being set and a poll rate of 1000 ms (1
second).

When I switch to the second radio, DX4WIN can communicate with the radio,
but it is somewhat erratic. When I change bands it takes long to adjust
DX4WIN band/mode (at random basis).

Then I have tried the option radio|set frequency. I have realized that
when pooling the frequency from the radio DX4WIN understands the frequency
wrong. For instance radio is on 7035.00, but DX4WIN reads 703.500,00.
Suddenly it understands correctly and at this point the band/mode is
ajusted at QSO window when in real time logging (F9).

Definitely there is something wrong at DX4WIN?s side configuration wise or
even a glitch.

Any help is appreciated. Regards Fred PY2XB

Phil,

you dont write the the magic word : RTTY

For what do you need then connection to the Soundcard? Interfacing for your 756
will be done by a
interface like COM-port or USB-port.

If you like to work also RTTY - then you need audio in- and output. All modern
PC have included.

Do you have a COM-port? Most new Laptop dont have one.
If you have only a USB-port you need a adapter / Converter from USB to COM
(serial) to connect your TRX.
Thats all.

Wow, K0PP's comments about eQSL really caught me by surprise.

I've been a ham for over 40 years and I had no idea that there was any
sentiment in the amateur community to boycott eQSL because they believe it
makes a profit! I used eQSL for years without paying anything before I
decided that it was a sufficiently worthwhile endeavor to support
financially. I have no idea if eQSL makes a profit or not but, quite
frankly, even if it does, I can not understand why anyone would object to
someone making a profit for providing a lawful service which others find
sufficiently useful to support. What's next? Should we urge amateur radio
operators not to buy any of their equipment or supplies from any store or
company that might make a profit on the sale? Since when did making a profit
become bad?

I am a life member of ARRL and also support and use LOTW. However, I believe
that the ARRL's LOTW came into existence directly as a result of the
pressure created by eQSL to move the process of confirming amateur radio
contacts into the digital age.

The fact is that many, many thousands of hams, including me, have found
eQSL's approach interesting, useful and FAST! They use it every day. Most
every other major full-featured logging program supports uploading and
downloading from eQSL and DX4WIN would be foolish not to support that
ability. I urge everyone to fully support both eQSL and LOTW and to post
their logs to both sites. There is no cost for doing that.

Hi George,

Have you enabled it for use on those bands? In
the logging window, click on ROTATOR, then
PARAMETERS, then select each band you want the
rotator to function on (40 and 30), then select NORMAL. and OK.

That should do it.

MK2R+ is now available (limited quantities) directly from microHAM
and most distributors including microHAM America in North and South
America. Orders are now being accepted at both
 http://www.microHAM.com and http://www.microHAM-USA.com. MK2R -
without the internal sound card - should begin shipping in about two weeks.

MK2R+ and MK2R are the most advanced, flexible and capable two radio
(SO2R) controllers available today. They support and enhance all of
the leading contest software. MK2R+/MK2R can utilize LPT control for
compatibility with classic software (TRlog, NA, CTWin and WriteLog)
or will function in USB only systems with N1MM Logger and
Win-Test. MK2R+ and MK2R also support the two radio features of many
 day-to-day logging packages - including DX4Win, DXBase 2007, DXLab
 Suite (DXKeeper), Logger32 and others.

MK2R+ and MK2R provide integrated CAT controllers for both radios,
WinKey 2 keyer - with 9 memories, true FSK for both radios, separate
voice and digital audio inputs, Digital Voice Keyer with 9 messages
up to 120 seconds each, sequenced T/R switching for both amplifiers
and LNA or receive antenna controllers, selection of main or sub
receiver audio from either radio plus audio review, and the ability
to operate simultaneously in voice mode on one radio and digital
 (RTTY/AFSK/PSK/etc.) on the other radio.

Further information is available from the MK2R/MK2R+ page at:
 http://www.microham-usa.com/Products/mk2r.html. The MK2R+/MK2R
manual contains the very latest information on features and
capabilities. The manual is recommended reading. It may be
 downloaded from:

why won't DX4win let me manually add 4N3, 4O3, YT3,YU3 YZ3 to the NEW

Soo I have a conflict, like two different countries can't be same

So lets look at 3D2, 3D2/r, no mapping there , but individual call signs.
Looks like it can take only one prefix per country, so it can default to a

How do I get around this problem, without downloading the updated prefixes

Thanks, Bernie/WO2N.

Hi all,

It's getting exciting for the upcoming contest weekend. It should be a fun

As the contest manager for the MARAC CW contest one thing that I would

Especially
the contacts points, multipliers and dups. Every effort should be made to
ensure accuracies of the final score. If too many errors are found I will

[Dx4win] ft990 rig control problem

2006-04-10 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I've been off the air for a number of months. Just getting back on, trying to
figure out how everything works, and where all those wires go. I'm coming
back to an issue I've had since I get my current computer. I can't get DX4Win
to
control/communicate with my FT-990.

The set up is I've got an MFJ 5383Y cable going from the radio to a
serial-to-usb converter. Brand is unknown. It's got two serial inputs and a USB
output.
The serial input I'm using is designated as COMM4. The computer is a Dell
laptop - Latitude D600, running Windows XP Pro. DX4Win is version 6.02.

Radio preferences are set up as:

Yaesu FT990
address - 00
baudrate - 4800
comport - 4
poll rate 5000
max tries - 6
RTS high (I've also tried DTR high, but it doesn't seem to make a difference)

DX4Win does not communicate with the radio. I can't read or change
frequencies out of the program.

I should note that I'm also running WriteLog 10.37 on the same computer, and
that works fine with the radio, using the same hardware set-up. That would
seem to eliminate any possible hardware issues as being the culprit.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with a similar set-up or any idea what the
problem might be. I like the radio and I like DX4win, so it's frustrating
when they won't play nicely together.

I wrote a book on printing and word processing several years ago and am a
little sympathetic to Paul. I am certain that he sets up pages and prints
them one at a time, and the duplex driver never sees the next page as a
duplex print job.

I downloaded a free program called Cute PDF Writer. It is a very useful
program for many reasons. One, is you can print a pdf file of your complete
log without wasting a single piece of paper and have it properly formatted
to read next year or ten years from now. This file is much more useful than
the standard print to file command. Now if you want to print the pdf file
of your log, your Windows driver for your duplex printer will see it as a
number of sheets to print front and back and viola, 2 page printing of your
DX4WIN logbook. I always print in landscape for the pdf file and when you
print on paper, it will still be nicely formatted in landscape mode.

p.s. Jos, it is primarily a cw log, and quite a bit longer than one sheet.

I am having a problem with DX4WIN being able to use my HP model 8250 two
sided printing. It will not print on two sides from DX4WIN. Even after I
select preferences and set it for automatic two sided printing.
It's not the printer as it prints documents from Word on two sides just
fine.
I'd like to print on two sides to conserve paper.
Is there a work around?
Thanks.
George
 --
I think this has been reported several times before with HP and other
printers. The default on my printer is also set to two sided but DX4WIN
insists on printing only one side. Hopefully the DX4WIN developers are
listening and can make the necessary fix.

[Dx4win] How much QSL manager data is useful?

2006-03-14 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

One thing that's not easy to determine is how much of this QSL manager data
is STILL valid. As a QSL Bureau manager, we get a lot of QSLs directed to
managers that haven't handled a certain callsign for years. Many DX stations
decide to handle their own QSLs, or some managers have to give it up due to
inability to get up log info from the DX station, etc. While I suspect that
the more reliable sources make a serious effort to delete manager data as
needed, I also suspect that in some sources, once in, they stay in.

Subject: [Dx4win] LoTW Import Problem
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am using DX4WIN v. 7.01 and recently downloaded and imported my complete ADIF
file from LoTW. However, during the import, I received a pop-up telling me that
1,087 confirmed records were not imported. Doing some math, and basic
troubleshooting, I discovered the issue and problem.

The only LoTW/ADIF records that set the Upl_Cnf field to Y also had Y in the
basic Cnfm field. If the Cnfm field was N then the ADIF import would not set
the Upload Confirmed Flag to Y.

BTW: Under Preferences/QSO, I have confirmed QSO's set to Card or Upload Also,
I exported my entire DX4WIN file as outlined elsewhere here, so every QSO has a
Y in the upload field and an upload date. DUring the import I also used the
Imported QSO sets Upload Confirmed Flag option.

The only issue is that the import will not set the Upload Confirmed Flag to Y
unless the Cnfm filed is also Y. But that sort of defeats the purpose of
tracking cards and LoTW separately, so what's the point with the feature in
DX4WIN?

[Dx4win] DX4WIN and LOTW

2006-01-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi John
Not to my knowledge but it is quite simple using DX4win itself, first off
select reports/change award flags and clear your awards flags so that you are
starting from scratch (this is a one time only process) now in
File/Prefrences/Qso, select Upload confirmed save changes and exit, now do a
submission
and this will submit all your LoTW stats, now its simple from here using
Reports/change award flags again select submitted-checked now all your LoTW
Q's are
marked as C
Clearing all award flags at the beginning only works if you dont already
have qsls checked manually by the ARRL (like me) but if you have some C's
already in then you should be careful what you clear first off. Let me know if
you already have cards already marked as checked and i will try to get round
this (i have a couple of ideas)

That hotfix was for WINXP pre Service Pack 2. Service Pack 2 includes the

My problem is still there. No problem to control the radio with DX4WIN

through DX4WIN I can send CW but I crash the computer when I use DX4WIN to
either Start or Stop the radio. If I set up DX4WIN for LPT keying I do
not have the crashing problem. So, there's definitely something DX4WIN
doesn't like about this Com port setup.

I'm really scratching my head over this one. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I upgraded to 7.01 a while back and one change I have noticed is that
when I hit F9 for real time entry some of the fields follow the last
spot in the DX spots window.
Is there a way to stop these updating unless I grab the spot?

Depends on which notes field you mean. In either case, such a global edit
entails exporting the log to DX4WIN6 format, editing the .DXQ (or .DXN) files,
and then importing the resulting file into an empty log (use a different name).

To delete all call notes, export the log, delete the .DXN file, then import the
log again.

To delete all QSO notes, export the log, blank every SECOND line in the .DXQ
file, then import the log again. Its important to maintain the blank lines
where the data you are removing used to be.

[Dx4win] Group names

2005-10-31 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi All
Using version 7.01, im attempting to split my log into my 2 callsigns
MM3EAX was my first callsign with 1700 qso's all after that was with MM0EAX up
too 12 000+

Following the help file i can't get this done :-(

My idea is to name the groups MM3EAX and MM0EAX so that i can select a group
print and the qsl label should print the appropriate label with correct
callsign, so i dont have to change the callsign in prefrences/rep/lab.

Is this possible or have i missed the point? Any how as i follow the help
file and create a group name all i get is a blank logpage??

Any help please???

I am having trouble configuring my Icom 746 with Dx4Win (ver 7.01) on my

I am using a USB to Serial Converter set to Com 4
I have tried multiple setting changes in the preferences of Dx4win with no luck.

Please, can anyone confirm what I believe re DX4Win's handling of Award
Submissions.

When you 'submit'(Reports/DXCC/Submission) for an award, DX4Win
automatically goes through its database and allocates the most recent
QSO that qualifies to confirm whatever it is you have asked it to
confirm. In this case DXCC Mixed.

Then, when/if you specifically 'Submit' a particular QSL via the logging
page, that QSL replaces the one automatically selected by the program.

Is that how it works?

It sounds like you are trying to set the label font in the Preferences.
You need to go to Labels/Print QSL Labels then click the Edit button and
change the font there. You can select a callsign font and a body font
for the label.

[Dx4win] DXCC Challenge

2005-06-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi

I've just spent over a week checking through
DX4WIN's records and matching them with those of
LOTW. They were out of synch through no fault of
DX4WIN but out of kilter they were none the less. Grief
but it was a tedious job.

Your DXCC summary counts the 2m band for the
DXCC Challenge but it shouldn't. I quote from the
ARRL site at least 1,000 DXCC band-Entities on any
Amateur bands, 1.8 through 54 MHz.

Some other sad old git (like myself) has probably
mentioned it before but I missed it.

Ken,

Hi there, I understand that the answer is NO you don't have to pay the
upgrade fee if you brought V6.xx within the last 6 months, (if you upgraded
to 6.04 from an earlier version within the last six months, this does NOT
count unless you paid $'s for it, which as an upgrade from V6.xx to 6.04 you
wouldn't have done).

However, if you brought it prior to that then yes you have to pay US$25.00
for the upgrade.

[Dx4win] vichw11.sys woes

2005-06-18 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I thought maybe the new version would fix my problem, but no success.
Thus, I thought I'd repost here and see if anyone has any additional
ideas.

I run dx4win on an old windows 2000 box, normally running as a user
with only Power User status. Every time I try to execute dx4win as this
user I get an error, stating:

Please copy the driver file: C:\Program Files\dx4w701
\DRIVERS\vischw11.sys
To: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\vichw11.sys

Now, I've manually copied this file to the correct directory, and still
get the message. I've also made sure that the file and the directory
are owned by the Power User, with full access control. Still get the
error.

So, in order to use dx4win I have to run it as an Adminstrative user
(using Run As). I sure would rather run it under the Power User account.

Anyone have any further insight? I should point out that this very old
PC has the windows files loaded in c:\windows rather than c:\winnt (I
think the previous owner upgraded from an older windows version).

Thanks and 73!

I run dx4win on an old windows 2000 box, normally running as a user
with only Power User status. Every time I try to execute dx4win
 as this
user I get an error, stating:

Please copy the driver file: C:\Program Files\dx4w701
  \DRIVERS\vischw11.sys
  To: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\vichw11.sys

Now, I've manually copied this file to the correct directory,
 and still
get the message. I've also made sure that the file and the directory
are owned by the Power User, with full access control. Still get the
  error.

So, in order to use dx4win I have to run it as an Adminstrative user
(using Run As). I sure would rather run it under the Power User
 account.
Anyone have any further insight? I should point out that this
 very old
PC has the windows files loaded in c:\windows rather than
 c:\winnt (I
think the previous owner upgraded from an older windows version).

I echo what Gregg just replied with.

Also heard back from Guy regarding him being away on business.

Neither of us were complaining Pete, as I am sure the tones of our emails
would have indicated and there is definitely no need to jump down our
throats with both feet ;-) It is a juggling act of priorities between
business, pleasure and service - kids have not broken up over on this side
of the pond yet ... so I have still got time to think lol

I for one wanted confirmation of my Paypal transaction as I have had a lot
of problems with spammers trying to obtain my details recently.

Thanks again to Guy for the reassurance that all is ok.

However, don't hold your breath, as Dx4Win updates are infrequent at

[Dx4win] Version 7.01 was at Dayton

2005-05-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Actually, I downloaded the new version and filled out the order.txt and
faxed it Tuesday morning. I received my key Tuesday afternoon. So they are
working the orders.

I'm with you Alan. I have a bunch to work on RTTY and instead of working
them and then opening DX4Win to log them, I can do it all in one fell
swoop. It's a great addition.

Bill

Version 7.01 was on sale at Dayton this past weekend. They did not want
to create a problem by having to support what they were doing at Dayton
plus the online users. They should have it up on their web page before
much longer, though. Paul sent out an e-mail yesterday stating their
case about doing this. All I can tell you right now is that you will
have to wait until they are caught up from Dayton and get the web page
updated. It seems to have not been a very big deal to the folks that
have everything worked on RTTY because I got some smirk e-mails from
some of those guys stating so what. But the addition of MMTTY to it
is a big plus to me because I still to work 190 more countries on RTTY
to have them all. I enjoy having RTTY QSO's whether I need it as a new
country or not and this version makes it much simpler.

Thanks for the tip. However it didn't work. I have full installed DX4WIN
6.04 and the problem remains. LPT1 is not recognized. As this computer has
no serial ports, I am not able to test the transceiver keying thru a
serial port.

I would say that there is some kind of issue with DX4WIN and windows XP
related to LPT keying. I am wondering if I am the only one having this
problem.

Hello. I would appreciate a help on this :

 I am using DX4WIN 6.03 in a desktop Pentium computer under windows 98. I
use the CW keyer interface thru LPT1 port without any problem in this
computer.

I am preparing myself for a Dxpedition next month. I have copied the
whole DX4WIN directory to a Toshiba notebook (Pentium 4 under windows XP,
no serial ports but has LPT1). So far so good. Everything works fine.
However when I attempt to use the Keyer by configuring LPT1 in
Preferences|Control . I receive a message: Cannot find LPT1 for keying,
when leaving he preferences program.

However LPT1 is there and works with other software installed in the
notebook computer.
BTW the only program running in the notebook is the DX4WIN.

Also, I have tried the following: I have not configured the CW interface
(none on the port). I have configured the Band Encoder instead. I have
assigned LPT1 for the band dencoder. No message is printed when leaving
the preferences program.

 Any help is welcome. Thanks

[Dx4win] Getting Keyboard CW to Work

2005-04-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Harry,

The suggestions by Joe for a CW interface are excellent.

I use the LPT port on my laptop (Windows XP, CT WIN, DX4WIN), and I have never
had a problem. I have experienced issues using the USB to RS-232 converters
with some applications, so I'd recommend that you give the LPT port a try.
Like Joe, I built the interface (which requires only a couple of components)
right into the body of the connector.

Good luck !

Hi Folks,

DX4WIN currently has three different TV modes:

 - ATV
 - FSTV (fast scan)
 - SSTV (slow scan)

It is my interpretation that ATV (Amateur TV) is a superset of (includes both)
Fast and Slow Scan TV. However, the ADIF spec guys are giving some pushback,
since they seem to believe FTSV is used interchangably with ATV. Thus we
really have:

 - ATV (meaning FSTV)
 - SSTV

Does anyone think we really need all THREE modes defined in DX4WIN, or are
these two sufficient?

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have printouts of old, pre-DX4win logs of los of satellite QSOs that I
want to add to my DX4Win logs. My thought is to scan the logs and save
them as text or comma delimited files.

My questions are:

- how to get them into DX4win and properly designating the proper fields

- how to generate a proper ADIF file as per LoTW rules. Note that
satellite QSO have to be treated differently. LoTW uses the following
fields that I do not believe are supported by DX4Win directly or
correctly in the creation of ADIF files:

BAND -- the uplink band
PROP_MODE -- various vhf/uhf modes. in this case it would be SAT
BAND_RX -- the downlink band
SAT_NAME -- the satellite name. Note that LoTW has specified th names.

I've seen a minimalist Excel spreadsheet (author?) for inputting QSOs and
dreating an SDIF file in lieu of a logbook, but it didn't have the fields
I need and I'm no programmer to modify it!

Any help is greatly (!) appreciated

[Dx4win] Differing ADIF formats

2005-03-12 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello again Pete.

I forgot to write that on the other way around, I mean from MixW Adif file to
DX4WIN adif file
DX4WIN will accept the NAME: and QTH: fields from MixW and it converts the info
into
NOTE: field, so maybe DX4WIN is ok and not other logging software.

Again, I not a expert on this fields and I am only passing further some info I
have gotten so far.

Hope it helps on your searching.

I wonder if it follows, then, that DX4WIN simply doesn't see certain
standard fields; conversely, I wonder if DX4WIN's import filters can accept
more than one input into, for example, the notes for QSO field.

I was really hoping that the developers could provide a table that says:

For ADIF imports, if ADIF FieldName is XXX, then information goes into
field YYY in a DX4WIN QSO record.

 Hello Pete!

I am not an expert on this stuff, but it looks like you right about it.

Few days ago while importing my logs into MixW adif.file, I found out
that DX4WIN uses the field NOTE: for both (NAME: and QTH:), while
MixW log software uses own fields NAME: QTH: NOTES: etc.
So when one imports ADIF from DX4WIN we will need to change this NOTE: field
into NAME: field so the ADIF from MixW can read the names and addresses from
DX4WIN adif file, by the way it will read all info into NAME: field but
 better than nothing at all.

To be able to change any fields do it as stated here: (PS: Got it from
 another user, and it works...)

Use a text editor to do a global replace in the ADIF file from DX4WIN or
 any other
ADIF files into the log setup you wish to import to.

 I hope it helps you.

 Hi Carlos,

I do not believe any of these are related to the trial version, they
 all sound normal.

For op names and QTHs, you need to look in the ADIF file from DX4WIN
to see what field names it uses for them. MixW uses NAME (e.g.
NAME:6Carlos) and QTH (e.g. QTH:7Drammen), so that is how it
expects the information to be imported. To the best of my knowledge
MixW does not have fields for street addresses. If DX4WIN has
exported the name and QTH fields using different field names, you
can use a text editor to do a global replace in the ADIF file.

In connection with another program, I have done some superficial research
 into ADIF.

It seems as if there are two different standards out there: ADIF 1.0, on
the hosenose site, and ADIF 2.1.5, on
 http://www.adif.orgwww.adif.org. Some ADIF exports seem
to involve additional fields which are not in either standard.

Looking at the filter editor in DX4WIN, I can't see any way to tell which
fields are expected from a file being imported. Is there some way to view
fieldnames and lengths, and to know where (QSO notes, for example) various
 data are imported into DX4WIN?

I think I understand. In the drop-down there is a list of fields,
presumably those that DX4WIN understands/exports/imports. Am I right to
assume that Note 1 Note 2 Note 3 are separate imports and all would be
stored in the Notes for QSO field. That could be very handy.

I wonder if it follows, then, that DX4WIN simply doesn't see certain

[Dx4win] Print log for DXCC with Multi QSO's on QSL

2005-02-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Anyone know how to print a log for DXCC submission with the multi QSO QSL

Greetings..

Wondering how a dx4win.~xb logfile is created??

The normal log for illistration is w4mya.dxl and is stored in the
c:/programfiles/dx4w603/savedirectory
This file was found in the dx4win603directory..

When looking at the details for the dx4win.~xb, it was a larger
file than in the save directory in terms of memory used.
590 vs 591kb

Changing the name to zzz.dxl and opening the file, it contained
6 more QSO's than w4mya.dxl..

Anyone have any idea how this could happen?

Take care

[Dx4win] Pt 2 Print log for DXCC with Multi QSO's on QSL

2005-02-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tony,

How is it remotely possible for a computer program to know if your
confirmations are on the same card? You have three bands to submit from P5.
Are they
on the same label (need to be sorted last in your submission), or are they
on three separate cards (sorted with the single band groups)? Unless Paul
were to write a brand new routine, and the users were willing to track this
stuff, it's absolutely impossible for the program to do this. (I'm certainly
no
expert on other logging programs, but I'd seriously doubt that any of the
others can do this task either.)

As to forms/lists being used, you will absolutely have to have the forms for
field checking. How else is there a record to take back to the DXCC Desk?
If you mail your cards to Newington, the Qs are entered directly, negating
the need for the form.

Thanks for all the replies. They are appreciated.

I guess DX4WIN has never had the ability to sort cards with more than 1 QSO
for DXCC submission. They need to address this issue in the next revision.

I was chastised at the Orlando Hamfest because of the cards being out of
order.

Bill Moore, ARRL DX Branch Manager, was sitting in the next chair checking
another submission he said and I quote If DX4WIN does not want to follow
the
ARRL procedures to submit cards then we will not allow their submissions.
The
other ham was also using DX4WIN. He also was told to properly sort the
cards.

I bought the program to log my QSO's and also do the submissions. By not
properly sorting the multiple QSO's on the DXCC submission list is useless.
Exporting and resorting the QSO's is what I expected the program to do.

On both of my DXCC submissions the card checker DID USE THE LIST. Even Bill

Moore used the list. Those trying to be helpful telling me the list is not
used please call the ARRL DX desk 860-594-0234 and speak to Bill yourself.
The
ARRL Website has a two page DXCC submission form, DXCC AWARD APPLICATION and
DXCC Record Sheet. If they weren't going to use them I doubt that they would
still be on the website.

Both checkers said follow the list when submitting! The cards must be in

this, pointing to the top paragraph of the DXCC Record Sheet, order. First
come the single cards in order then the multiple QSO's cards. The multiple
cards
go to the bottom of the pile.

[Dx4win] Ignore mode in real time and spots!

2005-02-14 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello Radi!

I agree with you, but as far I'm know, there's an option to actually disable
the mode window even
working with the radio connected, but DX spots shouldn't affect this widow as
stated on help pages:

The mode for the QSO.

The Mode field is initially set to the value specified in the default QSO. All
QSO entered subsequently will have the same mode setting as the last QSO
entered.

If a radio is connected and QSOs are added in real-time, the mode is
continuously obtained from the radio until the QSO is entered in the log. There
is an option to ignore the mode from the radio, Main Window | Radio | Ignore
Mode in real-time. This can be useful when adding RTTY QSOs for example with
the radio in LSB mode.

When using a mode for an award, the QSO modes are mapped to the more generic
modes; CW, Phone and RTTY. Some modes, like SSTV, are mapped to phone, but it
is still custom to exchange RST reports with three digits. The table below
summarizes the mappings and the RST defaults.

In the Pattern column, the letters have the following meaning:

N Normal rs(t) as many digits as the default value

A Aurora reports in the form: rsA, rsR, Rrs

O Oscar reports; allows 59 for CW , and allows O as a report

I have the same issue here with PSK31. One solution is to uncheck all modes
except the wanted one in the Preferences?Station?Mode setup and check the
ignore grey spots box in Packet1 when wishing to use RTTY/PSK etc..
Then, you will see only the spots of the selected mode on the upper packet
window, and still see anything received in the lower one. Not the most
elegant, but is a solution if you wish to work only one mode...
But, I guess Paul can fix that issue.
