Hmm. Alright... then here's a bit of a few games to start with.

Troopanum 2
Alien Outback which is more or less the same thing... but with a little more
of flare.

Other than that, accessible games kind of run out of that span... but if

see what i'd do thomas is release the windows one first, but i will
wait for a key if you are hoping to make it mac playable and then if
you wish to make it mac and linux playable then this can be done later
on
but as I already pre=ordered I won't play the windows title if in the
future even if I have to wait, it iwll be mac playable as this will
be a blast for mac users like myself

Hi Will,
It is definitely not a total loss. In fact one good thing that has
come out of this is this is a great opportunity to clean up the code
and do some fine tuning I wouldn't do until the game was complete or
near so.
For example, when a programmer codes they generally don't put their
methods or functions in any specific order. They just add them as
they create them one after another at least I do. As a result you
might get a list of functions like this.

SpeakPlayerScore();
SpeakPlayerHealth();
SpeakPlayerStrength();
SpeakPlayerDirection();

Obviously that is in no specific order other than they are all
announcement functions. Normally that is ok, but it can make it hard
to find a specific function if they aren't in any order. Since I am
working on 0.5 doing a line by line edit, correcting formatting
errors, and putting the Windows libraries back into the game I can
go ahead and put those functions in order just simply by copying
them from the original text file into a new text file, and editing
them one at a time to make sure they are using the Windows Genesis
Engine instead of the cross platform one. Instead of the above list
0.5 will look something like this.

SpeakPlayerDirection();
SpeakPlayerHealth();
SpeakPlayerScore();
SpeakPlayerStrength();

Ah, much better wouldn't you say? Now, by putting all of my
functions in alphabetical order I'll automatically know that
SpeakPlayerHealth() follows SpeakPlayerDirection() and so on. Yes, I
can use the find command in notepad to find anything i want it is
still easier to edit or work on if the related functions are in the
same general area.

Smile.

Hi Che,

Yes, I remember that you sent me a demo of Rail Racer. Truthfully I have not
tried it. I never installed any net framework on either of my computers. This
one might have it though. So I might have to try installing the game. I do
not up date my computers with the newest Microsoft stuff because it always has
screwed them up and I then have to turn the computer back to before I did the

 Hi Jim,
I must say if you are into racing games, it is surprising you haven't
registered with rail racer. I offered several game developers on list here
copies of the game, and I remember specifically sending you a free key way
back, in partial payment for all the fun I've had with your games.
Rail racer isn't a standard racing game in that you must do jumps, avoid
force fields and the like, but the essence of high speed racing is
maintained throughout, as I too am a racing junkie from way back.

Come join us man, you don't know what you're missing.

Hi Che,

Well I paid $100 for a steering wheel joystick. Right now I am very happy
that I did. Mach 1 tts is really fun to drive with the variable input of
the steering wheel, gas peddle and brake peddle. Plus all of the handy
buttons for speaking information. I am just really into car racing and
driving.

Ok though, I would want to know that a game is fully accessible and that
it is a game that I would really be into before I spent $50 for a
controller just for it.

many other free and commercial great titles. I've been on the net since

any titles to play. I think all the game developers have done an
outstanding job for us and I make sure to buy as many titles as possible in

Good morning Lindsay, from Ron Kolesar.
For starters. Why not check out Jim Kitchen's games. Jim's games are all
windows games and they're free.
But also check out the games from BSC Games as well.
Their address is
www.bscgames.com
So there's a couple of companies to get your friend started.
Hope that helps

I didn't get a chance to reply to this until now.

Why can't I? It's very simple. I work 40 hours a week. I program all
day,

and the last thing I wan tto do when I come home is program some more. I
spend my weekends preferably away from a computer seeing as my week is
spent

in front of one. So in short. Why haven't I converted any of the games
back to direct x? Because I don't have the time or the interest.

When Philip releases streemway, I will release my games. But until then
I'm

not doing anything else with them. This may sound harsh, but I work full
time and couldn't care less.
I think anyone with a full time job can understand how I feel.

Hey Liam. Why can you not only convert the super-egg hunt for DirectX
instead of waiting for him Philip who can not get its act together to
make
the fucking streamway? Because I do not think that he will finish it
before

we reach December!
PS
also the 3 other games you should have converted to streamway the course
should preferably not be too much.

Anyone who can do any kind of programming at all has my support just for
sheer patience alone. The most I've ever done is html and very basic python
scripting, and even that was tedius and frustrating. Well, not html of
course because lets face it, a monkey with half a brain and one hand could
do html, but if scripting languages are any indication at all of what
programming's like, it takes a lot more patience than what I've got in my
arsanel. Keep up the good work devs.

That's what I thought at first too. The language, pretty much in its
entirety, and I'm not overexadurating here, took me about 4 hours in total
to learn. Granted I don't use everything of what I've learned, but its
nothing like learning a programming or scripting language where you have to
sit down for days and days rading tutorials. I learned it and can use it in
about a night. Its probably the easiest programming language, as it were, to
learn out there.

Hey Liam. Why can you not only convert the super-egg hunt for DirectX
instead of waiting for him Philip who can not get its act together to
make
the fucking streamway? Because I do not think that he will finish it
before

we reach December!
PS
also the 3 other games you should have converted to streamway the
course

should preferably not be too much.

Re: [Audyssey] Would you pay $50 for a killer controller?

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Che,
As far as the Weii controller goes I guess my willingness to pay would
depend on several things. The $50 is not a big problem as it is with in
my budget. However, weather or not I actually spend it for a Wii
controller would depend on a few factors like how much would i actually
use it, is it compatible with all my other accessible games, and weather
or not I liked the game you were creating. If I purchased it and it only
worked with your game then I'd sayit wouldn't be a good investment. If I
purchased it and could use it with Troopenum, Shades of Doom, etc then
it might be worth the $50 to me. As far as a concept goes I like the idea.
One thing I really like about your game ideas is you think out of the
box. I do think that if this Wii controller takes off it does have a
potential to add something new to the accessible gaming comunity. You
got gamers interested in mouse support, and with the Wii controller it
would put you at the front of new ideas and new concepts. So I am
interested to see how this all works out in the end weather or not I
choose to get involved in your head to head fighting game.

Che wrote:

 Hi all,
I am ramping up plans for an online head to head fighting game. At first it
will mostly be a test bed for latency issues, so I can see what the limitations
are for head to head combat over the internet.
One idea I am picking at is the inclusion of The nintendo Wii controllers for
the game.
It is possible to use the Wii controllers via a blue tooth hookup with a PC.
Having used these controlers on my Wii, I can tell you they are amazing.
In the boxing game, the faster you punch with the controller, the harder your
character punches. In Mortal Combat, you draw a pattern in the air with your
controller to execute certain moves.
All of this functionality is available with the PC port of the controller
software.
My question is, how much would the average blind gamer be into this?
I think the draw to a head to head fighting game would be good, assuming lag
issues could be worked out, but would the average gamer be willing to drop the
$50 or so necessary to buy a controller and blue-tooth hook up?
The possibilities for useing the Wii controllers is immense for accessible gaming, most especially for action titles.
The balance board can be used as well, another $80 or so. Think of the ability to dodge your opponent simply by leaning, or run away from a monster by, well, running.

Anyhow, it is an exciting concept, what do you guys think?
 Later,
che

inclination to devote every waking moment to satisfying impatient folks
who can't just wait for him to get things done in his own time.
Remember, we can't afford to make demads of our developers. We've few
enough of them as it is. We can't afford to discourage them by being
ungreatful and selfish. Tell me, have you tried programming yourself? I
haven't and yet I can only imagine how stressful it must be.

Can blind folks play therimins? I wanna find out!

Hi Folks,
Instead of asking Liam about the games he has converted to Streemway,
how about contacting

Philip Bennefall's BlastBay Studios who is developing Streemway.

I didn't get a chance to reply to this until now.

Why can't I? It's very simple. I work 40 hours a week. I program
all day,
and the last thing I wan tto do when I come home is program some
more. I
spend my weekends preferably away from a computer seeing as my week
is spent
in front of one. So in short. Why haven't I converted any of the
games

back to direct x? Because I don't have the time or the interest.

When Philip releases streemway, I will release my games. But until
then I'm
not doing anything else with them. This may sound harsh, but I work
full

time and couldn't care less.
I think anyone with a full time job can understand how I feel.

Hey Liam. Why can you not only convert the super-egg hunt for DirectX
instead of waiting for him Philip who can not get its act together to
make
the fucking streamway? Because I do not think that he will finish it
before

we reach December!
PS
also the 3 other games you should have converted to streamway the

should preferably not be too much.

Re: [Audyssey] Rail Racing for speed junkies. was:Re: Would you pay$50for a killer controller?

2009-01-30 Thread Che

 Hi Jim,
Actually I sent you the full version download and a license file, I checked
my records to make sure that was the case, so yer all set for the full
experience.
As for installing .net framework and updating to direct x latest version,
I've sold around 360 copies of rail racer, all those computers must have
.net framework 1.1 and direct x installed, and none of them had any probems
with the components.
The only trouble I've had with any installs were sapi issues where third
party sapi voices weren't playing nice.
the frameworks and direct x stuff are basically extentions of windows, so
the chances of them messing anything up in and of themselves is almost nil.

Hi Che,

Yes, I remember that you sent me a demo of Rail Racer. Truthfully I have
not tried it. I never installed any net framework on either of my
computers. This one might have it though. So I might have to try
installing the game. I do not up date my computers with the newest
Microsoft stuff because it always has screwed them up and I then have to
turn the computer back to before I did the up date.

 Hi Jim,
I must say if you are into racing games, it is surprising you haven't
registered with rail racer.

Right now I am very
happy that I did. Mach 1 tts is really fun to drive with the variable
input of the steering wheel, gas peddle and brake peddle. Plus all of
the handy buttons for speaking information. I am just really into car
racing and driving.

Ok though, I would want to know that a game is fully accessible and that
it is a game that I would really be into before I spent $50 for a
controller just for it.

It's not at all harsh. I know where you're coming from. I used to be on
the phone at work all day long as a credit card terminal troubleshooter, and
the last thing I wanted to be doing when I got home was to be on the phone
for a few more hours. I had many other time taker uppers of more importance
that were more desirable as well.

PS

[Audyssey] message to impatient gamers - Re: Super Egg hunt 1.2

2009-01-30 Thread Charles Rivard
If you're just dying to play a game, and cannot wait, develop it yourself
after the necessary instruction and learning and buying of any necessary
software and hardware to do the job. You just might find yourself as a
developer in the slowly growing number of them. You might, or might not,
make money doing it. You might find that you enjoy playing the games you
develop. Then again, you might get darned tired of always answering the
questions that you used to always ask developers who weren't producing games
you wanted or updating ones you already have in a time that satisfies you.
At least, one thing's for sure: You'll understand both sides of the issue
of game production..

probably in college, so just like Liam he has neither the time nor the
inclination to devote every waking moment to satisfying impatient folks
who can't just wait for him to get things done in his own time. Remember,
we can't afford to make demads of our developers. We've few enough of them
as it is. We can't afford to discourage them by being ungreatful and
selfish. Tell me, have you tried programming yourself? I haven't and yet I

Hi Che,

Ok, I found two versions of an install for Rail Racer on my computer.

and

06/13/2007 12:29 PM 4,630 Important!ReadMeFirst.html
06/13/2007 12:16 PM29,980,791 RailRacerDemo10Setup.exe

I am thinking that the alpha is what you sent to me. I will have to try it.
However if it won't run, I will not up date my computer. It has always been
the windows up dates such as DirectX etc that has screwed up my computers. I
know that some people are like me and some not. That is, if something is
running and working the way that I like it to, I leave it alone and just use
it. I know that others must have the newest latest greatest all the time.
That just has never worked out well for me.

BTW It has been a very long time since I drove a real car. I only had a
license until I was 21. Mach 1 tts is the closest to that that I have found.
You know I have driven cars and trucks while totally blind and without the
visual feedback I just didn't think much of it. But now with a steering wheel
and peddles and the audio feedback of Mach 1 tts it is pretty darn fun.

Charles and all,

Thank you for your message. This is something very important to
remember. Draconis has the policy of keeping the vast majority of what
we're doing secret until things are ready to be released. We've recently
taken on new staff to hopefully increase the number of titles we can
release and decrease the amount of time between titles.

We've been thinking about the idea of lifting the veil more frequently on
what we're doing, but the type of gamers you're describing makes us
reluctant to do so. We have neither the time nor the inclination to try
to cope with those issues.

Some developers have been driven away by it. Some are quite frustrated
by it. And, in the end, it is the gamers who lose out the most, by
either not getting new games at all, or not getting to participate in the
excitement of a new title under development.

I admire Tom Ward, who has the time and patience to keep everyone in the
loop about his development progress. Those of us at Draconis find such
activity to be distracting and slowing the process of what we really want
to be doing...developing games.

We will have a number of great titles out this year, and they should
start coming relatively rapidly.

Should we lift the veil? Or should we remain silent. It is something we
will continue to ponder.

Hi Will,
I'm surprised I didn't think of that option myself. Nobody's satisfied with
me keeping things within, but at the same time I don't want to be constantly
sitting writing down every development stage of a project. What you've just
come up with there is a good compromise I think. I might start doing that

Thanks.

2009-01-30 Thread shaun everiss
yeah I like news but you are right over the years things have shown us not to
be to hasty.
Ofcause its normal that once you have this cool thing to blab it out to the
world in general.
toms copywrite and other issues not withstanding we had the james north
preeorder saga, and perhaps we should have tweaked then.
But no matter.
there was also the bavisoft thing to, etc, etc.
I remember when it was just pcs.
then gma, then what is now draconis but was espsoftworks.
then lworks.
And thats really that till usagames being the latest addition to actual
companies.
of all the stable companies only gma and pcs have stayed the longest and pcs
may actually lead since it was back in 95 when we were still using floppys.
Now days most of the industry is amde out of opensource people, and other free
guys, kitchensinc being the longest stayed soon after pcs and gma, and spoonbil
which although they don't put out much still do put out small by email order
titles.

Over that we now have audiogames.net and soundsupport.net.
both part of a massive forum/database and opensource community.
Its where everyone else and everything else has really come from.
I suspect we wouldn't last to long without it.
Shortly after we got bsc games up hmm sometime in the passt before our first
preeorder disaster we had a few arguments.
I think at one stage in the years before this one it was thought the gaming
community would die.
I think it would be dead except for the opensource stuff that comes out.
ane the experimental games as well.
However Not much has been released of late but at least the community is active.
We have had rocky corners, once to the point where audyssey was thought that it
would not exist anymore.
I think if it died the entire community would die or at least the origional
members.
So yeah being hasty is just not a good idea.
And I found this buy chance to, on henrichsen.org which is dead, all 25 issues
of it.
One of the first loads of things I downloaded from the net to.
At 10:43 a.m. 31/01/2009, you wrote:

well every time you update directx and dotnet you need to reinitialise directx
I have a second drive for this purpose with all the stuff in it.
Its ok if you know how.

2009-01-30 Thread Jason Allen
I don't know. My opinion on this is to be as open and transparent as
possible. It's a lot of work updating people on what's new with development,
but I also get feedback on whatever it is I'm adding, suggestions, and more.
I don't mind the interest. It helps keep me motivated.

Re: [Audyssey] Would you pay $50 for a killer controller?

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Scott,
That was my thoughts exactly. It is not so much the cost of the
controller as how useful it would be outside of this one single game.

Scott Chesworth wrote:

Hey Che,

Problem you might have here man is that, unless I've missed something
which is very possible, your online fightathon would be the only
accessible game using this controller. That much money for a
controller isn't a big deal, but that much money for a controller to
play one game only plus the cost of the game starts to become one
maybe. Another thing that's worth pointing out is that a lot of
people find themselves with some kind of internet hookup most places
they visit now, but wouldn't be taking their Wii controller around
with them 24/7, so you'd still be needing to maintain playability from
the keyboard/other controllers. Don't get me wrong dude I love the
idea, but as a formerly beatemup geek/guru, I'm more drawn to the game
idea than the fact that it's using a Wii controller. I've only ever
played a few games online (quake, mk3 over a lan, sound rts etc) and
already for me it's the best part of gaming. Can't wait to see more
access titles developing where it's possible.

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Bryan,
Sure. Basically, your source code can be written in any ascii text
editor as long as you remember to give it the proper file extention for
the programming language you are using such as: *.cs for C-Sharp, *.vb
for Visual Basic .NET, *.py for Python, etc. That said there are some
advantages to using a full IDE like Visual Studio rather than writing
your code in a generic editor like notepad. Visual Studio formats your
source code as you type it, has autocompletion, and of course you can
select various Windows controls from the toolbox that automatically
generates the code for buttons, labels, timers, etc. On the other hand I
prefer using textpad or notepad just because I don't have to deal with
all the child windows and other visual junk on the screen in Visual Studio.

Ok so the actual code is written in a plain old text editor like
Notepad? I've been wondering about that.

Re: [Audyssey] Would you pay $50 for a killer controller?

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Shaun,
Actually, a Wii controller shouldn't take up any space on your desk. It
is not a joystick like you are thinking. You just hold them in your hand
and move around to get it to punch, run, walk, whatever. I've demoed
them in the stores and they are cool. The Wii controllers are wireless
so you don't have to be near your PC to issue commands to the game. Grin.

I don't own a we though so we would have to be able to use the mouse or just
the keyboard.
I have a good old style logitec force feadback stick but I hve never set up
this of late because of no space on the desk, my desk is full of laptop, 2
storage drives and external burners that there is actually no real room for a
stick right now.
I'd be interested in an online/offline fighting game, i may even get sfx for
this and help test and maybe design some of this although you can program it.
I can even do voiceovers for the game if you want, for free, getting the game
is enough I don't want cash for these things.
I do however enjoy the challange of doing big projects.
If you give me lists of what you want I can geet things to you within a day or
less, if its harder to find sertainly within a month.
but probably less than that.

Hi Lindsay,
Depends on your friends interests. I'd say for action titles Aliens in
the Outback, Troopenum, Pipe, etc would be a good start.

Hi,
Hmmm... GMA Tank Commander and Shades of Doom would be my two
suggestions in that case. Troopenum and Aliens in the Outback are also
too cool games to try out.

well superliam is also a cool game especially with the unofficial mod stuff
