2010-02-27 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi Josh

Indeed it does register and unlock other classes and jobs for the game.
It's a quick upgrade though. And also to your other question yes the
numbers on the number row will work for targetting. Hold the selected
number down then choose your weapon or magic attack.

Hi,
That might be nice, but I'd just like some complete documentation
period. The wiki is very incomplete at this point. I am a bit
frustrated and annoyed to go online to look up something about the
game only to get a nice little message this page doesn't exist yet.
Honestly I think Entombed 1.0 was released too soon. There are still a
number of bugs I've personally found, the sounds could have been
improved, and the lack of documentation isn't a good selling point in
my opinion. I like the game, but I do think he should have put a
couple of more weeks into it and actually finished the documentation,
and made a few updates here and there before releasing 1.0.

On 2/26/10, Hayden Presley hdpres...@hotmail.com wrote:

Hi,
One thing I want is the documentation in say, a text file, included with
the game. It is slightly impractical to have to go onlineto learn how to
play an RPG like this (orany other game, for that matter).
Best Regards,
Hayden

Just to offer an alternative, violence doesn't bother me in the least and
never has. i was playing mortal combat, moonstone, street fighter 2 and
various other so called violent games at the age of 8 or so, in fact
the first mk game came out when i was 8 years old.

Admittedly, graphically, even mortal combat was almost more commic book
style than say grand theft auto, and the violence was mainly done in such
a way as to not be taken seriously.

I think if i had children, I'd base their playing of violent games upon
the game. Shooting aliens or gangsters, heck even fighting enemies with a
sword, fine, but running around the streets willfully committing
crimes and beating up police and inocent bystanders, probably not.

On the other hand, s/x bothers me a lot, but for personal, rather than
moral reasons which I will not discuss (this is why Cx2 has written all
the audiogames.net content for jims' games sinse i haven't played them
myself). I think I'd base a childs' playing of such games on knolidge and
maturity, but obviously these are hugely individualistic factors.

Just my thoughts, and just offering an alternative view.

Beware the grue!

I agree and I'm not even a hip lol.
It's kind of twisted how people today think kids watching batman handing
out a brutal beating's okay and yet anything to do with sex is wrong.
Japanese people however, seem to see this in a totally different light-
they're much more open about both sides of the issue and do not exclude
children from either violence or sexuality.

No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.

I'm afraid i'm not keen on the idea at all for several reasons.

Firstly, someone with guns in entombed is wrong. Secondly, we have a
drake, - ie, adolescent dragon who is pretty tough, a chap with
four or five dragons would be near impossible, and thirdly (and most
importantly), this is very much Jasons' world.

We could all submit characters we wanted in the game, but ultimately, it's
much more interesting to see who Jason can come up with, I would've
never expected the final boss's identity for instance until i got there,
and very much appreciated the surprise.

Hey Jason,
In my storeys I use a character called Dan. I wonder if you could use him
as a hero character?.
This guy is known as a dragon but his quite powerful. He could do 32 or
more damage.
But he has spells like, casting a gust of wind at you, a teleporting
spell, and lots of other stuff. He could wield guns, bombs, and knifes
and swords.
In my little books that I write for fun, he has a gang of 224 dragons,
and 300 people. Also some kangaroos.
But to make it fare in the game, 4 or 5 dragons will give it a little
push.

Names are. Thaith, cate, dranak, gruva, ganaganagana, and Drifanaldis.
When you start the game, you will have an option of him on your side, or
fight him. When he is on your side, he will only have one member called
Thaith.

Best of luck,
Muhammed.

Hi,
You got that right. The game is adictive. I downloaded 1.0 yesterday
afternoon, and now I can't put the blasted game down long enough to
work, eat, or sleep. I'm always looking for the next adventure, the
next battle, and of course improving my skills and equipment. The
battles are to say the least very interesting. You never know when you
are going to get shrunk, turned into a bat or ratt, get attacked by
one of your own dead party members, whatever. It is very very
adictive.

On 2/26/10, Johnny Tai johnnyti...@shaw.ca wrote:

I think the largest strength the game has is how long it can keep you

Soundwise, I don't know if Jason is aiming for an old-school feel on
purpose, but it is how it seems to me. The combat sounds especially, are
not

as impressive as most modern fighting RPGs, but that might just be a
preference thing on the maker's part.
The musics are real grand, and some spell effects do sound very nice- try
that lightning!
As far as bugs go, since the game's so huge, it's ahrd to iron out
everything yet, but what bugs there are do not stop one from having a
great

time.

No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.

Hi,
That might be nice, but I'd just like some complete documentation

Hi Jim,
Smile. Yeah, you've got a point. I don't really have a problem with
adult books, games, or movies either, but a lot of our society does. I
know quite a few people that thing sex is some dirty little secret
that nobody should talk about, that it is some great taboo, and
believe they should do away with sex ed in schools. Personally I
disagree with them, but who am I to tell them any different. Anyway,
we are drifting off topic here so I'll stop.

Cheers!

Hi Dark,
Yeah, I was playing games like Castlevania, Double Dragon, and Megaman
at roughly the same age, and nobody seamed to mind the violence back
then. Although, I believe the violence and gore factor has gotten
worse over the years which has attracted public attention. It is one
thing to shoot an enemy and he vanishes off the screen, and quite
another to watch that enemies head explode blood and brains all over
the place. Of the two I wouldn't have a problem with my son playing a
game like the original Double Dragon, but I wouldn't necessarily give
him a game with lots of blood and gore at his current age.
The other reason some games have gotten public attention is some games
feature nudity. Many parents don't want their kids being exposed to
nude characters, and so are outraged at the game industry for not
creating clean and family oriented games. Personally I think it just
comes back to the parents job to sensor their kids content and let
them have only what they feel the should be playing rather than taking
it out on the game industry.

Hi,
That's true, and I think it is important to remember the difference in
how we raise our children in the United States. Japan is mostly a Zen
Buddhist country with a completely different cultural and moral
foundation than us. Here in the United States we have the Christian
right which continues to influence the government and public opinion
by trying to get us all to live under biblical law and by Christian
principles. As a result the Christian right tends to go after games,
movies, music, same sex mariages, whatever that they feel doesn't jive
with their religious beliefs. I think they often forget not all of us
exactly share their point of view, and we have as much right to choose
content we like as they do.

Hi,
Definitely. For one thing there are a few bugs that I feel should have
been squashed before final release. Another issue I've noticed is
there are still some balancing issues to be worked out. Like why is it
if you train swordsmanship to level 4 and still miss half the time
while the enemies give you a beating?
I've found using magic, if you have it, more reliable and safe than
equiping and using weapons. I can train harm up to level 4, never
really miss, and level extremely heavy damage to an intended target.
why isn't swords as equally powerful when trained up that high?

Re: [Audyssey] Adult games

2010-02-27 Thread dark

Hi Tom,

In terms of double dragon, i actually played that at the age of five or so,
on our old amstrad computer, along with games like golden axe, yes, I
have! been playing games that long, in fact I remember being three or four
and my dad teaching me how to play atari 2600 games like berzerk and space
invaders.
On the violence issue, it strikes me there's an emphasis point. A game like
mortal combat, though regarded as a violent gore fest, generally turns out
more like itchy and scratchy from the simpsons. One fatality move in Mk
deadly allience for the gamecube for instance involved the sorcerer Quon
Chae, jumping onto his opponents' shoulders', grabbing their ears and
forceably stretching their neck like plasterseen until it was about six foot
long! how anyone could regard this as realistically violent I don't
know.

The problem is, most of the criteria used to say what is or is not violence
is rather unsubtle at best. I know for instance that at one time, the
difference betwene a pg and 12 film was that in a 12, they could actually
show a fist connecting!

This means in a pg, they can show someone throwing a punch, and someone else
falling over, but not the actual fist. A very silly distinction, and
one by which games where you punch enemies who just vanish off the screen
like double dragon, streets of rage or final fight would count as violent.

On the other handI have seen games which have an exclusively brutal outlook,
ie, realistic and obvious displays of pain to others. Syndicate on the
Amigar was one for instance, and if i had kids I'd probably not allow them
to play these.

As to nudity, I'm entirely with jim on that one despite my feelings about
s/x. if someone doesn't want to see nudity, well I hope they never look
at themselves in the bath!

Beware the grue!

Dark.

I agree and I'm not even a hip lol.
It's kind of twisted how people today think kids watching batman
handing out a brutal beating's okay and yet anything to do with sex is
wrong.
Japanese people however, seem to see this in a totally different light-
they're much more open about both sides of the issue and do not exclude
children from either violence or sexuality.

No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.

are there any order in which puzzles need to be done.
I have always done puzzles as they come and when I have something needed to
solve another part of a puzzle I go back and do that.
however I suspect everything is in the wrong order because the organ when I
play it in the correct sequence does not do anything at all.

Hi,
If you are musically inclinded, that's a major helper right there. The
notes
the parrot sings are in F Sharp Minor, and the organ is in G Minor.

Well it seems in American society that murder and mayhem is more accepted
than sexual content; America has a murder rate far higher than any other
nation in the world. In contrast, European nations have a more relaxed
judgment about sexual content abroad. Kids tend to know about swords, guns
and violence before knowing about the natural concepts of the human body; If
there was no sex, there would be no us.. Well.. Let the games go on..

parrot would sing out a note that aws, say, G, then, Say, a D, but Iwould

on that note I was playing with a friend that has the game.
are there any order in which puzzles need to be done.

Hi. I'm having trouble in chillingham. I got the frog, and fixed the
organ,

took all the bugs to professor. I take it my next task is to play the
organ.

I gave the hermit the potion, and fed the parrot the peanut. How do you
know

if the notes you're playing are right? It's hard to distinguish what he's
singing and put it in perspective with the notes on the organ. any
suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi John,
You have to become a ranger healer, or have a character become a Ranger
Healer. This will give you the nature card and also the job of Druid. Hope
that's not too much of a spoiler for the rest of you.

something rubber but with no bounce to it.

To be quite honest I'm one of those who feel that Jason released 1.0 too

 Hi.

Is the druid a job that appears later within the game or can it be played
 from the start?

Must admit I am glad I purchased it but looking forward to the bugs being
 fixed.

[Audyssey] Need help fighting the Drake.

2010-02-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone here can give me some advice on defeating
the Drake on level 7. I can't get passed him no matter how many times
I try. Basically, here is what I have to work with.

Cassandra --- A human female fighter/necromancer equipt with a long
sword and the best armour I could find for her.
Alair --- a half-elf mail healer/Druid. He is armed with a blackwood
staff and light armour/cloathing.
Dara --- a female half-elf fighter/ranger with bronze armour,
legendary long swords, duel wield at 5, flurry 5, and basically you
don't want to mess with her because your likely to loose a head, arm,
and basically get chopped up in the process.
Lupercus -- My wolf companion.
Undead skeleton orc fighter/mage. He is under Cassandra's control and
was raised from the dead to help out in the battle.
Summoned Animal --- any bat, wolf, or rat I can summon to the battle
ground to fight the Drake.

As you can see I've got what I thought was a good party. I can really
kick the crap out of the Drake, but not enough to actually slay the
dragon. When he hits me with a fire attack everyone takes heavy damage
and most of my party members usually wind up dead with several limbs
missing. In the last major fight Casssandra lost a leg, arm, and ended
up dying after the Drake bit her head off, and then spit it out on the
floor. Its like impossible to take him down without being malled or
roasted to death. Any suggestions/help?

Most magic does not work on the drake. There are a couple that work really
well. They are shrink, curse, and web. I think that slow also works on the
drake. There are a couple others, but cannot remember exactly right off.
Sure someone else will elaborate.

The shrink is special in that the drake takes more damage, and dishes out
less when shrunk. The shrink spell can be cast by mages, and found on
certain scrolls. But it only lasts a short time, depending on the level of
the spell. Or, make any of your party grow. Especially the fighters. They
will do quite a bit of damage when all grown up.

Curse is good in that the drake will receive maximum damage, while always
dishing out minimum damage. This spell lasts for the entire length of the
battle. The curse spell can only be cast from a scroll.

The web can only be cast by a scroll. Unless you have a spider skeleton
handy. it will make the drake immobile, and unable to move. This too is a
limited time effect.

Also, anything that strengthens your party is good. Enlighten, grow and
haste come to mind.

Ice blast also seems to do more damage than fire bolt.

Don't waste flurry on the drake. Your fighter will then stand around too
much afterwards.

Target the head. You might hit the neck also. This is the most vulnerable
spot on the drake. The only problem is that you have a slightly higher
probability of missing. But if your fighter connects, it will definitely do
some damage.

Save before battling the drake. If all fails, restart the game and try
again. Or, if possible, go past the drake and come back later when you have
more hp per character, or more powerful and appropriate scrolls.

HTH.

2010-02-27 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Richard,
that's some very valuable information. However, how exactly to you
target a specific part of the body. Every time I play it seams like
the game picks a body part at random. If there is a specific way to
turn the random attack off and give me the choice of head, body, legs,
hands, whatever please let me know. I've been wondering if there was a
more inteligent way of targeting and directing my attacks to do the
most damage and the most good against any enemy let alone the Drake.

Thanks.

Re: [Audyssey] Need help fighting the Drake.

2010-02-27 Thread Henry D. Reyes

Good Day:

There is most definitely away to perform attacks which are targeted. If you
have a keyboard with a keypad, imagine the number five as the center, or
torso, of your enemy. In that case, the eight becomes the head, four and six
become the arms or front paws, and one and three become the legs or back
paws. To target an enemy, simply hold the appropriate number down while
pressing enter on the action which you would like to perform. Also note that
the numbers on the number row work just as well.

Hi Richard,
that's some very valuable information.

Thanks.

Most magic does not work on the drake. There are a couple that work
really
well. They are shrink, curse, and web. I think that slow also works on
the

drake. There are a couple others, but cannot remember exactly right off.
Sure someone else will elaborate.

The shrink is special in that the drake takes more damage, and dishes out
less when shrunk. The shrink spell can be cast by mages, and found on
certain scrolls. But it only lasts a short time, depending on the level
of

the spell. Or, make any of your party grow. Especially the fighters. They
will do quite a bit of damage when all grown up.

Curse is good in that the drake will receive maximum damage, while always
dishing out minimum damage. This spell lasts for the entire length of the
battle. The curse spell can only be cast from a scroll.

The web can only be cast by a scroll. Unless you have a spider skeleton
handy. it will make the drake immobile, and unable to move. This too is a
limited time effect.

Also, anything that strengthens your party is good. Enlighten, grow and
haste come to mind.

Ice blast also seems to do more damage than fire bolt.

Don't waste flurry on the drake. Your fighter will then stand around too
much afterwards.

Target the head. You might hit the neck also. This is the most vulnerable
spot on the drake. The only problem is that you have a slightly higher
probability of missing. But if your fighter connects, it will definitely
do

some damage.

Save before battling the drake. If all fails, restart the game and try
again. Or, if possible, go past the drake and come back later when you
have

more hp per character, or more powerful and appropriate scrolls.

HTH.

To be quite honest I'm one of those who feel that Jason released 1.0 too
soon, and not merely because of the bugs. I think some of the sounds,
 though

certainly not all, need improvement, such as the impact sounds when
attacking physically. Granted the bow sounds are excellent, but I've
 never
imagined a sword making a sound like someone being slapped with a bare

if you're using the xbox 360, the store is the 6th option in the main
menu... the export songs is the last option in there... first, obviously,
ya've gotta get the license key from rockband, which takes the form of a
code inside the lego rockband case... then enter that into
rockband.com/legoexport, I think it is... then enter it into the dashboard
by going to the quick menu, going left as far as you can, pressing down
until you get to redeem code, which I think is the last option there, you'll
know when you find it, cause when you press a on it, it'll act like a
keyboard entry thing, type the code in, press enter, this is assuming
you're using a USB keyboard, which I highly recommend, then you're good to
go. then load the lego rockband game and go into the store as I previously
wrote.
any other console, I have no idea... I kinda hit upon the export songs
option in the store by accident, kinda trial and error cause I know how the

Re: [Audyssey] Need help fighting the Drake.

2010-02-27 Thread shaun everiss
no not the drake.
Firstly swords don't cut the drake you need a club.
its probably a good idea to have swords or something of whatever quality with
int and other increases.
scroles work on him to.
The only actual combo without all the new power transfer items are if you are a
ogar.
you need a couple of clubs at about 14 or less dammage 9-14.
one should be grannet and both need to be of some stone.
grate clubs are prefured and skill for duelwield max, and large clubs at
level3 or 4 and flurry max or at level3 or more.
I wouldn't worry to much with armour though a couple rosewood bucklers would
work.
the ogar has quite tough hide but thats how I did him in.

I may try as a drewed or necro with maxed iceblast and a few int items.
maybe.

2010-02-27 Thread Bryan Peterson
I've noticed that very thing myself. I think I only defeated him because I
got lucky. I had a Fighter/Assassin armed with the Gobblin King's twin short
swords and wearing his breastplate, plus a Fairy Mage/Healer who got in a
level 5 Shrink spell on the Drake while my Assassin/Fighter was hiding. I
also had an Elf Necromancer/Healer who cast maxed Ice Blast. My Assassin hid
the first round and then targetted the head the next opportunity he got. I
just got lucky in that I did extreme damage to the neck. That's why I
generally avoid the Drake if I can help it since winning that fight often
seems to be based more on luck than skill because his magic resistance is so
high.

no not the drake.
Firstly swords don't cut the drake you need a club.
its probably a good idea to have swords or something of whatever quality
with int and other increases.

scroles work on him to.
The only actual combo without all the new power transfer items are if you
are a ogar.

you need a couple of clubs at about 14 or less dammage 9-14.
one should be grannet and both need to be of some stone.
grate clubs are prefured and skill for duelwield max, and large clubs at
level3 or 4 and flurry max or at level3 or more.
I wouldn't worry to much with armour though a couple rosewood bucklers
would work.

the ogar has quite tough hide but thats how I did him in.

I may try as a drewed or necro with maxed iceblast and a few int items.
maybe.

Re: [Audyssey] Early Survey Results

2010-02-27 Thread Charles Rivard
Know what I'd like to see, out of interest? A survey similar to this one,
only from the standpoint of game developers. What games would you like to
produce that were listed on this survey? What speech scheme would be
easiest for you to work with when producing games? That sort of stuff.
We've seen it from the gamer's side, I'd like to see it from the
manufacturing side, too. I think it would be interesting.

Subject: [Audyssey] Early Survey Results

Hello everyone,
I thought many of you, especially game developers, might be interested
to know what the audio games community had to say regarding the
marketing survey posted yesterday. The results are pretty interesting,
and gives a good idea of where gamer's interests are as well as what
hardware and software they have. Here is the early results of the
survey thus far.

Age:

The youngest person polled was 11-years old and the oldest member was
55-years old. The average age of our target market is between 18 and
31.

Operating Systems:

The number one operating system prefered by our target market is
Windows XP followed by Windows Vista. The least amount of votes was
for Mac OS.
Although, nearly everyone surveyed liked the idea of games being
created for Mac or Linux using Cider or Cedega as long as they got the
same features as on Windows, but most prefered to stick with Windows
XP themselves.

Input Devices:

The most popular input device is the keyboard with a few requesting
better joystick support. Nearly everyone polled felt that adding a
joystick with force feedback support would be a good selling point for
the game, and something they'd like to see done. Especially, in the
case of a racing game or flight game where force feedback enabled
stearing wheels and flightsticks adds extra realism for the game.

Speech Output:

Regarding speech out put the survey was split pretty equally between
those that wanted prerecorded speech and those who would rather have
Sapi support. All of those in favor of prerecorded speech mentioned
they'd like to see more human voices, voice acting, etc rather than
just prerecorded clips of TTS voices. Those in favor of Sapi were less
concerned about speech quality and were in favor of the ability to
select a voice, speed, volume, and customize the voice using their
favorite Sapi speech engine/voice. A couple were in favor of using
their screen reader instead, but weren't enough to really consider
that an option compared to the other two alternatives.

Game Genres:

The number one response to wwhich type of game people liked to play
was all of the above which included: arcade, side-scroller, first
person, sports, and text adventure. Several expressed an interest in
arcade games. Many also expressed an interest in side-scrollers, and
wanted to see more games like Mysteries of the Ancients. A few
specifically mentioned an interest in first person as well, but not as
many as the other two catagories.

Conclusion:

So far what the survey results show is that a commercial developers
largest market is users running Windows XP, between the ages of 18 and
31, and they would like to see features such as force feedback that
are really only supported through DirectX. Many would like to have
Sapi support so they can have control over the speech settings, and
others want more realistic human voices if it is possible. As far as
any specific genre of game any type of game will do, will find a
market, but arcade games and side-scrollers seam to have the most
specific interest at the moment.
On behalf of USA Games Interactive I want to thank everyone who filled
out the survey, and wish you all the best. The survey is officially
continuing, but I think we now have a pretty good idea of where the
market is, and what people are interested in.

Sincerely,
Thomas Ward
USA Games Interactive

Re: [Audyssey] Early Survey Results

2010-02-27 Thread Charles Rivard
My thoughts are, let the parents parent, and if they don't, it's their
fault. Produce what you want to, or what you hope will sell the best. If
people don't like it, don't buy it, and hopefully give you feedback as to
why, then you can change your market strategy. If people do like what you
produce, and they do buy it, so much the better. If gamers play games that
corrupt their character, they can't accurately blame it on the game, because
it's not the game that makes them what they become. They are to blame, and
nobody else, unless it is the fault of their parents as well as themselves
for allowing the corruption in the first place. Games with an adult theme
don't interest me, and I don't play them. It's a personal opinion, though.

Hi Darren,
Yeah, I know. However, the sad thing is that the mainstream game
industry has come up with a decent game rating system E for Everyone,
T for Teen, M for Mature, etc and some parents don't even look at the
rating on the game. They just buy it not carring about what their
child is being exposed to.
For example, my wife likes watching all these reality TV shows like
Nanny 911 and the Super Nanny. I can remember a case in point where on
one show the Nanny asked the kid what he was playing and he showed
her. It turned out he was 7-years old and playing a game with a mature
rating. When the Nanny showed this kid's mother the game the mom was
clueless about the types of games her kids were playing, and was
surprised to find out she had been buying mature rated titles for her
kids that were ages 4 and 7. Definitely not too bright if you ask me.
Anyway, I gues I just don't want to feel responsible for exposing kids
to content that isn't more or less age appropriate. Yeah, I know it
really isn't my problem, and parent should be on the look out for what
content their kids are buying and downloading from the internet.
However, there are a lot that don't, and that bothers me. I don't like
to contribute to the problem if I can help it.
Plus there is the matter of image. I want USA Games to be a safe,
family oriented, business our customers can trust. If we got into
making adult oriented games then parents might not want their kids
browsing our web site and downloading our products. Although, the
majority of people who have filled out the survey are over the age of
18 so are target market is of the right age for that type of game.

Smile.

Hi,
You got that right.

Soundwise, I don't know if Jason is aiming for an old-school feel on
purpose, but it is how it seems to me. The combat sounds especially, are
 not
as impressive as most modern fighting RPGs, but that might just be a
preference thing on the maker's part.
The musics are real grand, and some spell effects do sound very nice- try
 that lightning!
As far as bugs go, since the game's so huge, it's ahrd to iron out
everything yet, but what bugs there are do not stop one from having a
 great
 time.

No one ever kicked ass by saying I can't.
