The 3D engine business probably explains why the in game audio is so good,
and now I know why I can't particularly see any game graphics other than the

well thats fine.

At 04:43 a.m. 1/11/2010, you wrote:

Hi Kevin & Dark et al,

Extant is intended as an audio game 'pur sang' - so audio-only and
no graphics. During the game there is a single graphic visible on
screen of the Extant logo, which consists of the letters 'E tant' in
positive, while the 'x' is in negative with a blue/greenish light
coming from behind it. Above the logo is the text "Stay Alive" and
in the bottomleft and -right corners are the logo's of
AudioGames.net and CreativeHeroes.

At this moment we do not intend to include graphics for further
incarnations of Extant. We really want to focus on
high-quality-audio-only games and not on blind-accessible video
games because of several reasons (personal interest, innovation,
development time/resources, etc.) The game is built using Unity
(http://unity3d.com/) which includes a powerful 3D graphics engine.
For development we used 3D graphic primitives (squares and spheres
and such), which allowed us to quickly build the game in a visual
manner (simply drag and drop sound sources unto a big sphere). Other
interactions also include visual elements. For example, when you fire
a bullet, there is an actual 3d sphere primitive that is shot at the
monster (a 3D primitive). This allows for accurate targeting, not
only from left to right, but also nearby and far away. Whenever you
shoot at a monster far away, you'll hear the impact a moment later
compared to when you shoot from nearby. But the visuals are only
used for game development and all visual rendering is turned off in
the final game.

We might develop blind-accessible video games in the future, but we
have no concrete projects in the CreativeHeroes pipeline at this
moment. Extant is the only audio game we focus on right now.

Best regards,

Richard

its a crash where the game stutters a bit then pops up an error dialog.
I can continue but if I hit the dialog the game closes.
however I have noticed about 6 crash folders with dumps and logs the

Moby, your dog? There are three gun-pickups in the game, one of
which is inside the church. Also, when a zombie attacks you, it
does not only do instant damage but you've been bitten too. This
means that you will slowly become infected over time. And you will

Hi.
the extant demo rocks.
Ok I never played a game with mono before.
at full graphics my pc didn't even do much with fan speed.
Footsteps could be a bit lower.
some target scope for zombie targeting would rock.
The ability to have a club as an alternit weapon.
The ability to have more than one gun.
the ability to reload your gun with amo and either to pick it up
or just limitless reloading.
I am listening to a podcast called on the edge of darkness which
is about zombie hunters and their job, so playing as a leader or
as a new person in a team such as this interests me as the cust
is on that subject.
podcast is ontheedge of darkness I tnink is the site search for
it on google.

http://ontheedgeofdarkness.com/wordpress
If interested.
Its good.
anyway the game does rock.
I couldn't find much I think we need a object locator.
also the dog should attack to.
Also it should get bitten to, also we need some sort of medkit
system but if we are hunters then obviously if you are bitten you
become a zombie.
In which case you should be able to play a zombie except you will
get hunted and terminated though.

other wise things rock.
what is the difference betwene windowed and non windowed mode.

Hello,
I have a question. Well, my question is, well in fact 2, let me just get to
the point, how do you no which code to put in a game? For an example, maybe
I might not do this, well I don't think I would, but I would do a test game.
Well, this is what I am thinking of. This computer tells your enemy, a
sooper fighter some private information. Well, you here about it, then you
get extremely angry, and you punch the computer as hard as you could,
smashing the computer, while jaws shouts, "No, please don't, I have a long
life, please don't," And when the computer is blown in the storyline, it
screams in pain. Well, you think that you might destroy your enemy. Well,
you get out your gun, and you go in your car, and you drive towards the
man's office. You get out, and you go towards the door, and you push the
door open and you get in. Basically, you are in a big hall, and the man
comes down from the staircase, and when he comes down, you punch him with a
good jab, cross, hook, uppercut, or a haymaker, and he falls. Use the tab
key to select which punch, and the space bar to fire that punch, and the
number one and two to select your weapons. Gun or fists. Well, the man
falls, and you shout, stupid man, and you punch him as hard as you could.
Well, after 10 punches, he jumps to his feet, and he shouts, "You'll pay,
and lets see who's strong!" You get your gun out, and you square up next to
your sooper enemy. In the game, you have to fire bullets at him, and if your
hit, you lose 10 percent of health. You use the up arrow key and which ever
key you want to use to jump over to the other side, and the you use the left
and right arrow keys to walk. If your bullets finish, because you are
trigger happy, you have to wait until his bullets finish, and the same one
for him. Well, once the bullets are finished, you and the super man have to
fight by fists. In this little action seen, the keystrokes are different.
Use left or right to slip, that means turn your body, but not much, and your
up arro key to block forwards, also your down arro key to duck a hook, we
call it wrole, and your enter key to block from upwards. Well, the computer
will say, enemy what ever hit. For an example, enemy jab! You could slip or
leen, but as your fighting to kill, the head is the main part in the game.
What ever derection the computer says it from, you have to do that
derection. For an example, if it says it from the right, you quickly have to
slip towards the left, and real quick, you'll have about five seconds. When
you press the space bar key, it will fire the 5 main punches in boxing, but
I'll do sounds for that, and the enemy could also dodge your moves, so watch
out for super fighter! Well, after you finish the fight, he blows up, and he
vanishes, and you are extremely happy, and you have acheeved what you want
to do. Well, if you finish him with your gun, then good job! I am asking,
how could I code all of that, and how do you no which code to use.
My audio games for the blind group.
Discussions off topic are welcome in the holidays. Talking about games is
welcome, talking about computer problems is welcome when their are know
holidays but that's only in easter holidays or know holidays. If you want to

Hey Lori,

The robot won't stay out of your way. He, or perhaps she (I guess
that'd make her a robette?) is pretty determined to catch you, so it's
up to you to avoid that happening. The higher the level, the faster
the robot comes after you.

Do the strange tones you're hearing come a few coins before you level
up, as you're collecting up the last few coins on the grid? If they
do, it's because earlier in that level you collected a bonus object
which allows you to finish the level with a set number of coins still
left by pressing space after you hear one of those tones. It's been a
while since I played so I forget the exact name of the bonus object
that makes this happen, but what I do remember is that if you choose
to press space and finish the level early, you miss out on some of the
standard bonuses. It's only really a good idea to level up early if
you're having a really fast run through and think you can get one of
the time bonuses by doing so.

Bombs tick, so skirt around them, and wherever possible try to be
where they're not. Sounds easy enough, but factor in the robot chasing
you and it makes for some pretty wiggly movement until the bombs are
all exploded.

Hth, I found the game to be seriously addictive considering there was
nothing to kill lol

When you pick up coins you get a tone. I'm not sure what you mean by

Hi has anyone got any game recordings of Superdeekout? I thought I'd try it,
but it's hard as I'm having trouble getting robot to stay out my way on higher

stay still? Also what is the strange tone sound played when I pick up coins
sometimes? I'd be glad of any help. Thanks from Lori.

Hi Hayden,

Which URL exactly? To download the game:

Extant - Download for MAC

To read about the disappearing .exe on the Extant forum:

Hi Hayden,

First, which version did you download - PC or Mac? What probably is the
case

is that your anti-virus software has blocked or removed the .exe from the
.zip-file. You can read about this problem on the Extant-forum here:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=4310

Here's what others have posted about the problem:

Dark: "If you've tried downloading multiple times and got the same issue,
perhaps you've got an antivirus program which is acting up and auto
deleting

the files for some reason, thus creating a zip folder with no contents (I
have seen this happen before). "

Raygrote: "Sounds like your antivirus is deleting it. Try either turnning
it

off temporarily, then install and add the .exe as an exception.
If that doesn't work, try redownloading the zip file with a download
manager

such as free download manager. This will make sure everything gets
downloaded. Most web browsers will not be able to help you out if the
download unexpectedly stops. I've seen some websites that trip all of the
web browsers I have, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Seamonkey.
They would download to a certain point and then stop and say it was
finished, leaving a corrupted file.
This game sounds awesome, downloading it now."

So maybe try adding an exception for Extant in your virus-software, or
temporarily turning off your virus software. Extant does not need
installing, simply unzipping.

Let me know if you can get it to work!

Greets,

Richard

Hi Shaun,

Thanks for your feedback and also for your gameplay-suggestions. Multiple
weapons and such is already way up in the pipeline, so no worries ;) This
tech-demo already allows you to reload your gun with pick-ups. Have you
tried searching for a gun-pickup with Moby, your dog? There are three
gun-pickups in the game, one of which is inside the church. Also, when a
zombie attacks you, it does not only do instant damage but you've been
bitten too. This means that you will slowly become infected over time.
And
you will die* if you don't find the health-pickup to save you. Unlucky
for

you, Moby is not able to locate the health-pickup so you have to find it
yourself ;) So that all is already present in the Extant tech demo.

Hi.
the extant demo rocks.
Ok I never played a game with mono before.
at full graphics my pc didn't even do much with fan speed.
Footsteps could be a bit lower.
some target scope for zombie targeting would rock.
The ability to have a club as an alternit weapon.
The ability to have more than one gun.
the ability to reload your gun with amo and either to pick it up or
just

limitless reloading.
I am listening to a podcast called on the edge of darkness which is
about

zombie hunters and their job, so playing as a leader or as a new person
in

a team such as this interests me as the cust is on that subject.
podcast is ontheedge of darkness I tnink is the site search for it on
google.

If interested.
Its good.
anyway the game does rock.
I couldn't find much I think we need a object locator.
also the dog should attack to.
Also it should get bitten to, also we need some sort of medkit system
but

if we are hunters then obviously if you are bitten you become a zombie.
In which case you should be able to play a zombie except you will get
hunted

Re: [Audyssey] Bgt.

2010-10-31 Thread Philip Bennefall

Hi Muhammed,

This is a very hard question to answer simply. It all comes down to
translating an idea into logic and code. That, you can only do once you've
grasped the fundamentals of code like what an if statement is, what a
variable is used for, how loops work, etc. Then, you pretty much draw up a
sketch (either in your mind or on paper), about how your game will work
internally. Whenever I start a new game I begin by making a very basic
prototype, usually where the player just moves around or whatever. This is
my sketch, you could say. Then I take one feature at a time, and step by
step construct the final game. In this process is involved a lot of testing,
debugging, correcting, rethinking etc as things don't always work out in
practise as you had planned in your sketch. What you have there is a basic
sketch, so once you learn how to write in a programming or scripting
language (C++, BGT, C#, VB.net or any other), it should not be terribly
difficult to make what you want. You will need to flesh it out with more in
depth things such as how navigation works in detail, fighting, etc etc. But
what I'm trying to explain to you is the differences and similarities
between an idea, and that idea expressed in code.

Thomas, you're better at explaining these theoretical processes than I am...
Help? Smile.

Kind regards,

Hello,
I have a question.

Re: [Audyssey] Bgt.

2010-10-31 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Muhammed,
What you need to do is start small and simple.
Have one punch only, or one gun only for example.
The more realistic you have them work the more difficult the programming.
Some games such as Dungeons and Dragons don't require you to aim your gun.
It does a dice roll and based on your skill number and the distance to your
target and the results of that roll you either hit the target or not.

This is the easiest way to handle a weapon.
If you want realism, you need to aim right at the target and determine if a
shot a little to the left or right of center will also be a hit. Then you
need to calculate the trajectory of the bullet based on the muzzle velocity
and distance to the target, wind direction and gravity.
Of course you would have to determine how deadly the bullet was based on the
kinetic energy size and composition of the bullet.

As you can tell, reality is a lot harder to convert to a computer game.
smiles,
Phil

Hi Hayden,

First, which version did you download - PC or Mac? What probably is the case

is that your anti-virus software has blocked or removed the .exe from the

Here's what others have posted about the problem:

perhaps you've got an antivirus program which is acting up and auto deleting

the files for some reason, thus creating a zip folder with no contents (I
have seen this happen before). "

Raygrote: "Sounds like your antivirus is deleting it. Try either turnning it

off temporarily, then install and add the .exe as an exception.
If that doesn't work, try redownloading the zip file with a download manager

such as free download manager.

This game sounds awesome, downloading it now."

So maybe try adding an exception for Extant in your virus-software, or
temporarily turning off your virus software. Extant does not need
installing, simply unzipping.

Let me know if you can get it to work!

Re: [Audyssey] Extant - Control Configuration Feedback

2010-10-31 Thread AudioGames.net

Hi Kevin & Dark et al,

Extant is intended as an audio game 'pur sang' - so audio-only and no
graphics. During the game there is a single graphic visible on screen of the
Extant logo, which consists of the letters 'E tant' in positive, while the
'x' is in negative with a blue/greenish light coming from behind it. Above
the logo is the text "Stay Alive" and in the bottomleft and -right corners
are the logo's of AudioGames.net and CreativeHeroes.

At this moment we do not intend to include graphics for further incarnations
of Extant. We really want to focus on high-quality-audio-only games and not
on blind-accessible video games because of several reasons (personal
interest, innovation, development time/resources, etc.) The game is built
using Unity (http://unity3d.com/) which includes a powerful 3D graphics
engine. For development we used 3D graphic primitives (squares and spheres
and such), which allowed us to quickly build the game in a visual manner
(simply drag and drop sound sources unto a big sphere). Other interactions
also include visual elements. For example, when you fire a bullet, there is
an actual 3d sphere primitive that is shot at the monster (a 3D primitive).
This allows for accurate targeting, not only from left to right, but also
nearby and far away. Whenever you shoot at a monster far away, you'll hear
the impact a moment later compared to when you shoot from nearby. But the
visuals are only used for game development and all visual rendering is
turned off in the final game.

We might develop blind-accessible video games in the future, but we have no
concrete projects in the CreativeHeroes pipeline at this moment. Extant is
the only audio game we focus on right now.

Best regards,

Richard

So all feedback on this topic is welcome!

When you start the game, there's a configuration dialog. This dialog is
not self-voicing or anything, so your screen reader still needs to be

Since I don't use a screenreader I've only tested keyboard-accessibility.
To change tabs I tabbed towards the tab named "graphics" and than pressed
the cursorkey-right, which took me to the tab "input". Then I tried
tabbing through the control scheme table but that didn't work. So - can
anyone tell me if they can reconfigure the controls of Extant using a
screenreader? If it's inaccessible, than that is something we really need
to know!

Re: [Audyssey] Extant - game feadback

2010-10-31 Thread AudioGames.net

Hi Hayden,

First, which version did you download - PC or Mac? What probably is the case
is that your anti-virus software has blocked or removed the .exe from the
.zip-file. You can read about this problem on the Extant-forum here:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=4310

Here's what others have posted about the problem:

Dark: "If you've tried downloading multiple times and got the same issue,
perhaps you've got an antivirus program which is acting up and auto deleting
the files for some reason, thus creating a zip folder with no contents (I
have seen this happen before). "

Raygrote: "Sounds like your antivirus is deleting it. Try either turnning it
off temporarily, then install and add the .exe as an exception.
If that doesn't work, try redownloading the zip file with a download manager
such as free download manager.

Unlucky for
you, Moby is not able to locate the health-pickup so you have to find it
yourself ;) So that all is already present in the Extant tech demo.

Hi.
the extant demo rocks.
Ok I never played a game with mono before.
at full graphics my pc didn't even do much with fan speed.
Footsteps could be a bit lower.
some target scope for zombie targeting would rock.
The ability to have a club as an alternit weapon.
The ability to have more than one gun.
the ability to reload your gun with amo and either to pick it up or just
limitless reloading.
I am listening to a podcast called on the edge of darkness which is
about

zombie hunters and their job, so playing as a leader or as a new person
in

a team such as this interests me as the cust is on that subject.
podcast is ontheedge of darkness I tnink is the site search for it on
google.
http://ontheedgeofdarkness.com/wordpress
If interested.
Its good.
anyway the game does rock.
I couldn't find much I think we need a object locator.
also the dog should attack to.
Also it should get bitten to, also we need some sort of medkit system but
if we are hunters then obviously if you are bitten you become a zombie.
In which case you should be able to play a zombie except you will get
hunted and terminated though.
other wise things rock.
what is the difference betwene windowed and non windowed mode.

[Audyssey] Extant - Control Configuration Feedback

2010-10-31 Thread AudioGames.net

Hi Ben,

Good question! Because I don't know how accessible this functionality is. So
all feedback on this topic is welcome!

When you start the game, there's a configuration dialog. This dialog is not
self-voicing or anything, so your screen reader still needs to be activated.
The dialog contains two tabs: "graphics" and "input". Click "input" and
you'll find a table of all the functions in the game with the primary
control scheme and the alternative control scheme. You're supposed to
double-click an entry to change a function's control.

Since I don't use a screenreader I've only tested keyboard-accessibility. To
change tabs I tabbed towards the tab named "graphics" and than pressed the
cursorkey-right, which took me to the tab "input". Then I tried tabbing
through the control scheme table but that didn't work. So - can anyone tell
me if they can reconfigure the controls of Extant using a screenreader? If
it's inaccessible, than that is something we really need to know!

Best regards,

Richard

Unlucky for
you, Moby is not able to locate the health-pickup so you have to find it
yourself ;) So that all is already present in the Extant tech demo.

Greets,

Richard

Hi Lori et al,

Thanks Lori, we'll definitely consider adding extra targeting feedback.

For all of you trying out the Extant tech demo, we're very interested in
details such as if you:

- are playing the PC or the Mac version?
- are using headphones, stereo desktop speakers, 5.1, 7.1, etc.?
- just use keyboard input or also use a mouse?
- reconfigured the original control scheme yet (you can if you want to)?
- can't get anything to work?
- etc.

This can help us establish with for instance why footsteps may appear too
loud for one player but soft for someone else. I can tell you, using
headphones or speakers makes quite a difference.

Also, we interested of what you think of the design of the gamespace. What
do you think of:

- how the world, the environment sounds?
- the different acoustics based on your current location (which is all
realtime dynamic reverberation by the way ;)
- how buildings work (finding them, entering and leaving them, etc.)?
- how pickups work?
- how fighting work (thanks again for those who already expressed their
feedback on this issue)?
- how orientation and navigation works, incl. Moby?

And did anyone already notice something peculiar about the gameworld? ;)

Thanks for your feedback, keep 'em coming. Please post either to this list
or join us on the Extant-forum:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewforum.php?id=24

It's just a tech demo thus farto see how people get on with navigating,
killing zombies and picking up gear.

I assume Richard and sander will add more things, eg, a story with
objectives, more enemies etc as game developement progresses.

Hey guys,

It's not much, but pretty much every cut scene I imagine is a spoiler, so
it's pretty limited and may or may not change your mind on whether you
want the game.

Here it is.

http://j.mp/aSMhCA
Personally, I think it's worth the $50. We don't have any games with story
and those people seeking a good story to actually play through and it's
not just written in a manual for background purposes, this is the game you
want. For those absolutely obsessed with online play, like most of the
console market who just wants to login and blow people and things up or
fight all day online, this may not be the game for you, as most of it
revolves around it's story. And when you finish it? Well, I hear an online
mode will be under development, but not for some time. But hey, it
wouldn't hurt to play through it again now would it? How many audio games

Hi,

I do agree here in most points. I love the spherical world, I like the fact
that you can re-configure the keyboard.
I play with headphones, and it is pritty cool.
The only thing I am missing is turn with mouse. You can't move the mouse
left or right to turn, you can just shoot. Could that be implemented? I
would love that feature!

Re: [Audyssey] Extant - game feadback

2010-10-31 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
Hi,

yeah, sometimes it is hard to know when you have killed it, but if you do
it for a bit, you don't even need steps, since that adds to the
creepyness factor. Also, it is kind of hard to know when they are dead,
but again, after doing it for a while, you get to know how monsters die
and it will be easy.

Re: [Audyssey] Extant - game feadback

2010-10-31 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
Hi,

This menu works like this. You hold control, and while still holding
control you press up and down, or left and right arrow, until you hear
the option you want to find. If you then release, it will for example
say: "mobi, find the gun.". You just follow the barks, and when the barks
stop, and you heard the ammo reloading sound, you picked it up. With
buildings, the dog will guide you to the sound the building makes, or
maybe even inside. It's easy if you understood it once.

Re: [Audyssey] Extant - game feadback

2010-10-31 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
Hi,

This concept confused me at first, but now I kind of like it. The only
thing you could do is possibly move the buildings a bit on the X-axes, a
bit to the left or right, so that you can't just walk forward and enter
the buildings. I like it if you have to search what you are looking for.
At least in a 3d Shooter like this. Also, I am not a great fan of the gun
sound. *smiles*.

Hi,

The beeping only is for the health. The ammo packs, unfortunately, don't
seemt o be making any sort of noise, unless you picked one up.

2010-10-31 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
Hi,

I kind of agree here, but for now that there is not much to do, I would
respawn the enemies, so that there is some point of staying alive. Or
actually trying to do so, because it would be boring if, well in this
concept demo, tech demo thing, everything would be empty.
