Script-Fu crashes others?
Hi, I upgraded to the new Gimp 1.2.1 but I still get Script-Fu crashes, especially on the Puzzle plugin. Gimp itself is fine. Anyone else has this? -- Jonathan Gift
Solved Text Answer
Hi, Thanks again for all the help, but the cleanest and easiest is to use Gimp. I found an option under Filters ->Render->Dynamic Test which brings up a box where you can enter text or import a text file. It then goes in on a transparent background. No mess, no fuss... This is obviously old news to all those placing kernel code samples on their wallpaper background on Themes... -- Jonathan Gift
Segfault on Gimp1.2 Script-Fu?
Hi, I have the Ximian debian potato compiled gimp installed and every so often I get a segmentation fault using various filters. The Puzzle one did it to me several times when rapidly scrolling through a number setting. Is this me or do others get this? Is it Gimp, Script-Fu, a badly written script, or my install is missing something? Thanks for any pointers. -- Jonathan Gift

Then why did I get a notice about having to upgade my perl library and if you look at the gimp perl deb source, it does indeed require woody's version of perl and not potato. I don't get it, becaue if that was the case, how come Ximian got it up and running on potato? Jonathan
Re: Gimp Build

But I haven't installed Ximian and I don't intend to. If it was just Perl, it's one thing. I have a nasty feeling that once I upgraded perl, it would be something else. If someone has successfully done it against potato then I'd love to here. Until then, I have it up and running. Jonathan

I'd still like to compile it, but not at the price of multiple librray upgrades and breaking my system. If you know a way, please share. If not, Ximian is thataway. Jonathan

Q: Gradient Transparent -Color?
Hi, I want to darken parts of a pic so up to now I've layered in a black to color gradient. But better would be to leave parts transparent and so was wondering if I lay down, and how, a gradient that goes from transparent to a color. In other words, a gradualy appearing color? Thanks. Jonathan

Anyway to change ~/.gimp-1.2 name?
Hi, I posted this earlier but part of a longer message. I have the new Helix compiled Gimp 1.2 and the installtion program offers me only the .gimp-1.2 home directory. I've tried changing the path in preferences and no go. So, is this particular to this build, or all the new Gimp 1.2? Gimp 1.04 defaulted to .gimp and I'd like that if I can hack it. None of the other apps does it and it sort of stands out... Thanks. Jonathan

I tried changing the preferences directories to .gimp from .gimp-1.2 but it still created new directory. Any other way of getting a plain .gim back? Thanks. Jonathan
Got a working Gimp 1.2-Thanks & Q
Hi, The Xemian gimp 1.2 seems to have done the trick. It does go in as ~/.gimp-1.2. Is this particular to the new gimp or this build? Any way to get an old generic .gimp (I moved my earlier one so as to avoid just this). Thanks. Jonathan

Q: Recommended graphics cards?
Hi, I'm going to be upgrading soon and have been looking athe the assorted Linuc compatible cards. Almost all the FAQ/Mag article one's are 3D monsters. What would one consider with the Gimp, and not games, in mind? What card and what amount of ram? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks. Jonathan
