[Goanet] CONQUEST of GOA 1510

2020-11-25 Thread Yahoo!Mail

Goa -- was conquered 510 yearsago by the Portuguese on 25.11.1510; after their
unsuccessful attempt inFebruary/ March of the same year.

It was the Feast of St Catherinein whose memory a small church now in disuse
and abandoned lies at Old Goa.
For many of those who profess propagate ‘Goem, Goemkar and Goemkarponn’ but
lack in practice  theyshould stand advised, to record this date, as well, as a
red letter date   in the history of Goa.  The others significant dates
being16th January 1967 ---Opinion Poll day .The  4th February 1987 ---
officiallanguage (Konkani) recognition day ( but still suffers a mischievous
insertion inthe Act  by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin GSB political lobby at the
last minute, of words ….. in Devnagari script ….without addingRoman script )
Hence its later day inclusion inthe Eight Schedule of the Constitution of India
on 20th August, 1992  is to date a misnomer.
Finally 19th December,1961  (call it annexation/liberation- fornow that’s
history) .

[Goanet] GOA LIBERATION DAY 59th anniversary

2020-12-18 Thread Yahoo!Mail

   - On 31st December, 1974 i.e over 45  years ago the Indo-Portuguese  treaty
was signed. Portugal  recognised the full sovereignity of India over then Goa
Daman & Diu besides Dadra Nagar Haveli . Hence whether Goa, Daman & Diu besides
Dadra Nagar Haveli was annexed, liberated, conquered  on 19th December, 1961
after 451 years of Portuguese rule commencing on 25th November 1510 is akin to
a freedom fighter in one country being labelled a terrorist by the other
   - The visit of President of India R Venkatraman to Portugal in 1990 and
visit of his counter part Mario Soares to India in 1992 has further sealed the
distrust between the two nations
   - The only valid point which in the humble opinion of this writer can
continue as a  point for arm chair debate is how could a country like India
adopt armed intervention over the Portuguese dominions which existed 440 years
before India became a Republic in 1950.
   - Thus before the emergence of the NEW INDIA on 15th August, 2022 lets us
usher in a new era in Goa with a changed mindset.
   - History will always be recorded at various foras but thats all

[Goanet] BEEF Imbroglio in Goa

2020-12-20 Thread Yahoo!Mail

No beef today, thebutchers gone away? …….seems to be the common refrain in Goa
since the short supply beginning of this month.

But the groundreality is otherwise  …

The 48 member (excludingtwo constituencies, one in Sancoale, candidate declared
unopposed, and theother in Navelim owing to  death of acandidate)  Zilla
Panchayat elections onpolitical party lines  were held on Saturday,12 December,
2020.

Politicalentities  are known to whip up emotiveissues and what better means
now, subtle polarisation of votes has stood thetest ..Dont we know that  when
there is apolitician at one end there is an idiot at another.

Despite the beefscare splashed out in local vernacular dailies the ruling
dispensation came outin flying colors following declaration of results on 14th
December,2020

However lets ponder a little beyond.  Beef supplies in Goa is sourced from
Karnatakanotably Belgavi (Belgaum).

Now the Karnataka legislative Assembly got a newstringent Bill viz the
Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation ofCattle bill 2020 passed on
9th December,2020 but ONLY  in the Legislative Assembly because the rulingBJP
government has a majority.

But in its  bicameral legislature,  its upper House viz the Karnataka
LegislativeCouncil the ruling dispensation  did nothave a majority hence
passage of the bill failed on 15th December, 2020

It must be noted that the  theearlier Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and
Cattle Prevention Act 1964which banned ONLY slaughter of cows and calf, she
buffaloes and allowed slaughterof others above 12 years aged unfit for  any use
but for consumption; The new bill if passed  and notified   will ban the
slaughter transportation and sale  of  beef in its entirety

So what happens to the tannery, tourism  industry, and those beef traders
theirworkmen and a section of the non vegetarian  consumers  etc

Thus the  question remains now.  Will the Govt of Karnataka resort to
anordinance route  or wait for the nextAssembly session to debate the pros and
cons by referring the Bill to a Selectcommittee et al.

Needless to say  it is a whole gamut of issues to be addressedand the Govt of
the day is sensitive to this issue.

Hence one could believe that there is a politicalovertone in the introduction
and part passage of this bill  if the other  political developments in the
neighboring state of Karnataka is taken into account

In a two phase election  nearly 5762 GramPanchayats (no elections will be held
in some -- owing to their belated termend or their upgradation fully or
partially or owing to litigation  ) in the State of Karnataka go to the
pollsfrom  Tuesday 22nd December,2020.
The ruling dispensation in Karnataka  can ill afford to miss this opportunity
toconsolidate their base. In a caste riddled vote bank.  Emotive issues like
ban on cow slaughter provides for soft polarization which now seems to be  the
norm withdevelopment thrown in as carrot by almost  all political parties
Hence post elections in the humble opinion of thiswriter having spoken to
several persons in the neighbouring State the beef flowwill resume well before
the festive season. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

As at the time of writing the Secretary(Agriculture & Animal Husbandry) Govt of
Goa when contacted telephonicallyconfirmed that no communiqué has been received
banning the sale or transportation  of beef in theState except for the news in
the print and visual media. Besides the traders are already anticipating the
worst and have reason to take stock and plan for the future.
In the meanwhile supplies of beef to the Statecontinues, to certain outlets
from other destinations notably Mumbai and evenNew Delhi.

[Goanet] Remembering REGINA FERNANDES the first lady on tiatr stage

2020-11-22 Thread Yahoo!Mail

Sincethe inception of tiatr, on   17thApril, 1892, i.e 128 years ago, the role
of a woman was doned exclusively  by males. Woman  dared not venture  on any
suchpublic platform  for fear  of social stigma and ostracisation from society.

Itwas Joao Agostinho Fernandes (b 14.12.1871   d 29.08.1947)the Father of
Tiatr, who broke this tradition.  He got his first wife Regina ( b 16.11.1880 d
20.12.1908 ) a native of Raia, Salcette,Goa just 24 years of  age. to act
onstage, in his own tiatr –Bhatkara-  onthis  red letter day  22ndNovember,
1904   Unfortunately she died young, at barely 28 yrsof age.

Hencetiatr artists  owe a homage  to the memory of this great lady who  broke
the social taboos and thereby provided females   an opportunity on  tiatrstage.
The feast of St. Cecilia the Patron St of Tiatrist is also beingcelebrated on
this day.

Onecan visit her matrimonial house – now –the over 150 years modest   HOUSE
OFPAI TIATRIST – Joao Agostinho Fernandes – behind Holy Spirit Church,

the sister ofRegina also lived .

TheHouse is open to public for viewing and interaction, with the present

[Goanet] National flag hoisting at St Jacinto Island Goa

2021-08-15 Thread Yahoo!Mail

Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

  15.08.2021Hon ble CM of Goa.
Sub : National Flag hoisting...at St Jacinto Island.
Respected Sir.
Your reported outburst calling the villagers as anti nationals for initially
not permitting hoisting the national flag on the island by Navy  was in the
humble opinion of  native Goans an impulsive outburst at best...and good that
it was corrected by you in time.
Fortunately better communucations between the Defence personnel and the
villagers of this Island put an end to the controversy.
Having had native Goans both as Chief of Army Gen Sunith Rodrigues and Raksha
Mantri late Mr Manohar G Parrikar..besides several others in the armed forces
to date native Goans can  never ever be branded as anti nationals and
definitely not after 19.12.1961 having joined the Union of India.
But if there is any  bitterness or underlying suspicion of the acts of the
Defence Forces it stems mainly from the fact that the Navy have not in the past
honored the order of Collector South Goa District both dated 43/1/87/Rev/  dt
08.12.1987 and 26.07.1989.on transfer of the 360075 ha land in survey Nos 1.2.3
of Canacona taluka..in Goa to allow on the Anjediva  island the celebration
of customary feast of St Francis de Assisi on 4th Oct  and Feast of Our Lady of
Speings ..Nossa Senhora de Brotas on 2nd February every year.
The last time these celebrations were permitted was on  02.02.2004 and Feast of
St Francis de Assis 4th Oct never allowed as the Chapel has been barricaded and
declared out of bounds  then onwards..
CM late  Parrikar had donated towards repairs of  the Church on the Island
Rs.25000 at the request of this writer.
Later as Defence Minister Late Parrikar  had got the ASI Hubbali division  to
repair the Church the  Fort  a pre Liberation Canon lying there in 2017 ..
But till this date the Navy does not permit celebration of the two customary
feasts
In fact while 4th Dec is celeberated as Navy Day and all Indians are permitted
access to the Sea Bird establishment Naval vessels with due security conditions
the reason for adopting a dual policy towards these public oriented events viz
the customary  Feasts celebration   not being allowed  on the grounds of Naval
exercises being carried out at the base is baffling.
Govt of Goa should now take up the matter with the Naval authorities forthwith
and in right earnest get them to honor these terms to bridge the distrust
betweenNaval authorities and Goans at large as ..the religious sentiments have
been hurt for far too long since 4 Oct 2004 to date.
Trust this will clear the well averted situation on the island and bring out
the traditional bonhomie of indigenous Goan natives  known worldwide.
Warm regards on the 75th Independence Day

Sincerely yours.

for  Konkani and Statehood of Go Well this book The Battle for  Konkani and
Statehood of Goa written by Shri Luizinho Faleiro ex CM  of Goa  has in the
himble opinion of this writer no relevance to the real aspiration of the
population of Goa and Goans..                                      True  it is
well documented book of  the struggle to achieve both  Konkani and Statehoid
but fails to reveal   how a certain section of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin
community just a mere  3% of the Goan population discreetly  manipulated the
entire Konkani speaking community in Goa to  achieve their  sinister design.
Goans world wide supported  an emotive issue  Konkani our mother tongue which
was mainly spoken written read and preserved by the non Brahmin Goan minority
community in the English or Roman script  definitely not in the  Nagari script
accent and vocabulary with which these 3% segment  population are familiar
with.  Despite several write ups by some outstation writers and this writer
fore warning the movement stalwarts of  the sinister design of the 3% referred
here to above even  the Church in Goa till this date is not reconciled to the
fact they were betrayed by a "nagari mogi" insider.  So what was the result the
hearts of Goans sank when they realized that Konkani became an official
language but till this date it is not  in the public domain who inserted a
handwritten entry unsigned : in nagari" scriot on the notified..official
Gazette of  Govt of Goa This writer is confident that the needle of suspicion
points to a protagonist of Konkani nagari script but cannot name him for
obvious reasons. The corollary therefore the  27 % minority community continue
with the Englush script Konkani jn religious rites and in domestic use but
their kith and kin are forced to digest an alien script Konkani as guinea pigs
in the laboratory of konkani chauvinism  Of course by this  script all the 3%
are ensured Government jobs because they are more familiar with the script
Hence this book can well find a place only in the Goa  Konkani Bhavan and used
as  resource materisl by students to understand in hind sight why Konkani is
written in Kannada Malayalam Nagari script even this  day  but not in the
English script.. The writer could therefore stand advised to add a chapter as
an  explanation to the above betrayal to his book as an addendum to make it
complete  Ofcourse 3% supporters got the Sahitya Academiy to post haste get the
Konkani nagari script  inclusion in the ninth schedule of the Constitution to
abort any attempt to tinker with the official language and add the English
script . But the possibility that with a large section of Malyalees and
Kannadigas familiar with Konkanu in these scripts they could demand official
recognition for these scripts besides nagari script in matters of employment.

Re: [Goanet] AN OPEN LETTER TO GOA CHIEF MINISTER MANOHAR PARRIKAR FROM AIRES RODRIGUES

2017-08-02 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
All kudos to you, Aires, for your bold and caustic letter to Goa's smug CM,
calling him 'corrupt, communal and casteist' to his face.
But, given the feudal minds of these BJPwalas, you might be unwittingly
stirring up their wrath & inviting revenge. This land has not had much of an an
intellectual or diplomatic tradition, so they are unlikely to respond by
calling for a rational discussion or public debate on the hard issues of the
day. More likely, emotion may be the driving factor, leading to erratic
responses, such as a herd of confused cows released before you as you walk on
the road, or seasoned 'goondas' hired to do injury.
Many older Christian (and Muslim) Goans may be recalling more tranquil times in
the State but with an established Hindu majority (and fanatics among them), the
good old days are probably gone for good.
However, I'd like to propose a rather revolutionary idea of dividing Goa into
two parts with a soft border - the South as home to most Christians and Muslims
(like the Catholic Irish Republic) , the North for the HIndus, BJPwalas, cows
and all. A friendly secession.
More importantly, South Goa should be entitled to a good bit of autonomy to
conduct things their way and to exclude feudal/vedic groups if they don't
behave.
Aires, is it such an outlandish idea? What do you think?Eddie

Dear Mr. Parrikar,

Two decades ago, like many others, I too held you in great respect while
even working alongside you and the BJP, believing that you were a ray of
hope for Goa. But I had to part company after I was faced with evidence
that you are very corrupt, communal and casteist.

The people of Goa were hoping that you would heed the recent sensible
advice given to you by your dear friend Rajan Parrikar and gracefully pack
your bags. But as you haven’t, I am constrained to write to you this letter
hoping that you will allow Goa to move on.

In 2007 you had publicly vowed that it would be your last election. However
in that greed and lust for power you went back on your own word and
contested yet again in 2012 and became Chief Minister after promising the
people of Goa a Parivartan by way of Good Governance and Zero Tolerance to
Corruption. But given your string of swift U Turns, the people of Goa soon
realised that by trusting you and electing the BJP they landed from the
frying pan into the fire.

In November 2014 with the State engulfed in rampant Corruption, nepotism
and bad governance, you left a messed up Goa in a huff to be the Defence
Minister of India while you continued to deviously operate as the de-facto
Chief Minister reducing the then incumbent Laxmikant Parsekar to a mere
puppet.

After your disastrous stint as Defence Minister, in March this year you
very deceitfully and through all crooked means forced yourself back as
Goa’s Chief Minister despite the people’s verdict having clearly been
against the BJP.

Panaji sadly remains a decaying and sinking city despite you having been
its MLA for over two long decades, thrice the Chief Minister and even went
on to be the Defence Minister of the country. With all the power at your
hands you could do nothing for your State and city. Incredibly, you now
have the audacity to seek yet another term as MLA despite your grim
performance or should we say non performance. This is despicable. Can you
give us one good reason as to why you should be re-elected? Infact there
are manifold grounds including your sheer arrogance why you should be
hounded away. You have now turned awfully rancid and run out of steam with
no ideas or vision flowing.

Over the years while you allowed Goa to sink you have minted a fortune for
your family to merrily feast on for generations. So, Mr. Parrikar, it is
time for you to gracefully pack up and hang up your very soiled boots so
that Goa which today has sadly become a gambling, prostitution, narcotics
and crime destination finally may see some much needed Acche din.

In the words of Abraham Lincoln ‘You can fool all the people some of the
time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the
people all the time”

Hoping better sense will prevail and wishing you a much deserved retirement.

[Goanet] Did you know? India beat China in the 1962 War [Says school textbook]

2017-08-10 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

In Hindu Rashtra, anything goes.Turning history on its head, the Sanskrit
textbook for class VIII distributed in several CBSE-affiliated schools in
Madhya Pradesh says that India won the 1962 war against China, The Times of
India reported today. The passage appears in the Sanskrit textbook "Sukritika
Volume-3" in chapter eight, which is about the achievements of the country's
first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru."What famously came to be known as
Sino-India war of 1962 was won by India against China," the book says according
to the report. "During Jawaharlal Nehru's tenure as Prime Minister, China waged
war against India in the year 1962. With efforts of Nehru, India defeated
China."The 1962 India-China war, which began on 20 October 1962, ended a month
later on 21 November after China declared a ceasefire. It has gone down in
history as a decisive victory for China. The error in the Sanskrit textbook has
come to light at a time when India and China are locked in one of the deadliest
standoffs in decades at the Doklam plateau. In the midst of rising tensions,
the Chinese media has published editorials reminding India of its defeat in
1962, with Defence Minister Arun Jaitley retorting that India had "learnt a
lesson" from the war and the Indian armed forces are "fully capable" today.Read

[Goanet] Did you know: the Taj Mahal was built by the Hindus and gifted to Emperor Shah Jahan

2017-08-12 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

One BK Ayyangar, approached the ASI through an RTIapplication saying that the
Taj Mahal was really "TejoMahalaya", built by the Hindus and gifted to Mughal
Emperor Shah Jahan by RajputKing Maan Singh.

Claiming to be a historian, one PN Oak said he had written a book"Taj Mahal:
The True Story", arguing that Taj Mahal was originally aShiva temple gifted to
Shah Jahan.

Oak had approached the Supreme Court in 2000 on his thesis but the SupremeCourt
dismissed the case, accusing him for having 'a bee in his bonnet' aboutthe Taj

The Central Information Commission (CIC) has directed theUnion culture ministry

GENERAL COMMENT
The Hindus (especiallythe BJP/RSS type) have long been feeling inadequate &
inferior over their insignificantrole in history and have decided to do
something about it.
In particular, the Second Millennium sawassorted invaders enter Hindustan
starting with Mahmud of Ghazni in c 1000 CEand ending with Brexit in 1947.

The Hindu elites have been smarting at theirfailure to confront and overthrow
the invaders. As a result, the Hindutva elites(mostly the upper castes) are
trying hard to make India a global power by aneconomic and military route but
at the cost of the health and wellbeing of thepoorer people.

The Hindutvalas also have a project of revenge against the Muslims for
theircenturies of control of Hindustan. In 2002, some 2000 were massacred in
Gujarat(with Modi as CM) and more recently Muslims are being lynched on flimsy
proteststo do with cows and beef (Modi is PM). [Mind you, there is no similar
vengeful programme against the British. The Hindu elites are grateful to the
British for creating the Indian state& all its institutions. ]

The Hindutvalashave next sought to falsify history:
- they go back to ancient (Vedic) times when dates and data are uncertain
andclaim glorious accomplishments such as implanting animal organs onto humans
(asin the case of god Ganesh) and achieving interplanetary travel.
- they distort more recent historical incidents or simply fabricating events.

Examples:
- the Taj Mahal was really a Rajput monument gifted to the Moghuls
- India won the 1962 War by defeating the Chinese.

In HinduRashtra, anything goes –ethics, tolerance or historical truth can be
dispensed with.

Thanks, Carol, for the great news about Leon Mendonca's chess victory at Sochi
(South Russia).I had no idea that Goa even had a Chess Association.Leon
deserves the warmest greetings from all people of goodwill.
I can understand GCA President Cabral felicitating Leon but how does this BJP
joker Parrikar come in the picture? He may be CM but isn't he the guy who
attended the unlawful meeting at the Airport organised by the BJP Chief/Emperor
Amit Shah. And he has failed to justify the holding of the meeting which means
he has no respect for the people of Goa. So are the BJPwalas a lawless lot?
Leon shows much promise and may he have many more successes in his chess career.

The newly elected GCA President Nilesh Cabral congratulated the young

“We wish him all the best for the ‘Catalan Chess Circuit’. We hope that

concluded Nilesh Cabral.

The Goan lad defeated India’s Sadhwani Raunak and Russia’s Sadovsky

and Gasanov Zaur.

Leon was also awarded an additional Gold medal as board prize for
remaining undefeated throughout the tournament.

Re: [Goanet] Goan folks seem so indifferent to on-going local issues. WHY?

Joseph rightly asks: why is it that our Catholic Goans are damn good with pen
and paper writing articles in flowery language in Goan blogs, local Goa
Newspapers but yet fail miserably to pen even a few lines (protesting) the
desecration of (Christian) graves?Why indeed?
On another issue, Advocate Aires Rodrigues has bravely filed a petition against
the allegedly unlawful BJP-sponsored Meeting at the Airport and the Bombay
Court  has already responded.
But has Aires received any strong support or commendation from the people?
I am not aware of any.
Both these issues no doubt have the backing (however tacit) of the cow-fixated
BJP party. Has any CM or senior BJP official cared to explain the Airport
meeting? Or condemn Hindu acts offensive to minorities (Christians or Muslims)?
They just stay dumb, preferring tension to winning hearts & minds.
Have you noticed that wherever there are concentrations of minorities in India,
the Hindu rulers have dispatched their army or special forces - to Kashmir
(Muslim), North East (Christian), Central India (tribals & Dalits). It might be
Goa's turn next. If the Goenkars are silent, it may be they are scared of the
BJPwalas who love bullying minorities.

regardless of which party has been ruling. During the Congress regime I was
branded as a BJP man, now the BJP may feel the reverse.

I have had nothing personal against anyone about whom I have raised issues
over the years. But when highlighting an issue, it is bound to hurt some
individuals. Have I hurt one too many? One has to have the spine to speak
out against anything that is wrong. People do advise me to take extra
precautions but this I shall not do! I have always led the life of a common
man. I have been attacked many a times, but as the Sufi mystic Kabir said
“Jakorakhe Sai, maar sake na koi” (None can harm him who is looked after by
higher Powers). The dedicated prayers and the abundant love showered by the
common men is what keeps me going. My fans and well wishers across Goa and
around the world are my source of inspiration.

We should never ever compromise or surrender our fundamental right to speak
out openly and candidly against anything that is wrong. Let us never
hesitate in taking the bull by the horn. The cancer of corruption, nepotism
and bad governance in Goa needs to be publicly exposed and acknowledged.
Then the resulting suppurating wound needs to be excised and treated for
the country to be healed and move Forward.

It has and will always be my very firm resolve with added vigour to carry
on highlighting any injustice, corruption and nepotism. Nothing shall deter
me and my commitment in this regard. In fighting injustice one faces a
backlash and more seriously the risk of an attempt on one’s life. Over the
years of fighting against injustice, nobody has been able to intimidate me.
I have never been cowed down by any threats of consequences that I have had
to face for speaking out fearlessly and taking on the powerful and mighty
over a wide range of issues. Even that heinous attempt on my life did not
cow me down but only made me stronger and emboldened my resolve to stand up
against the powers to be.

We need to maintain the spirit and keep on fighting. Life is a very short
voyage, a journey, the end of which we know not. So let’s keep up the
fight. We owe it to Goa, or else posterity may never forgive us for having
silently allowed our once beautiful State to just fester and wither away.

May the care, concern and compassion of every Goan wherever he or she is be
always for Goa.We will all one day depart but our Goa must live. And when
we do have to depart, it should be with a proud sense of accomplishment of
at least having attempted to do something little for our Goa, once the
Paradise of the East. In death, one may be physically gone, but the spirit
will always be around to witness that glorious day when Goa will be truly
liberated from injustice, corruption and nepotism, all sadly a way of life
today.

In the words of Robert Kennedy “Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or
acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he
sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million
different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that
down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance”.

Re: [Goanet] From my Archives

2017-07-25 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Very interesting.Speaking of caste, where did it spring from? Most agree it
originated with the Hindus but, with things Hindu, there is no clear,
uncontested historical narrative. They prefer to grope in the shadows of myth &
legend - anything outside rational scrutiny.
Here's one account I read:The Hindus venerate an old seer called Manu: who is
he? When did he live? We don't know and the Hindus can't enlighten us. He is
supposed to have devised a code or laws to govern society called the Laws of
Manu. He assigned people occupations according to caste.
The Rig Veda describes how Brahma, the creator of the world, was born in a
golden egg. "In order to protect this universe, He the mostresplendent one
assigned separate (duties and) occupation to those who sprangfrom his mouth,
arms, thighs, and feet." (The Laws of Manu,24).Manu then added: TheBrahmin was
his mouth; his twoarms were made of the rajanya(warrior/Kshatriya), his two
thighs the Vaishyas(traders and farmers), from his feet the shudra(servile
class).

This classification has been accepted over the centuries. Nobody (scholar,
academic, philosopher) has rejected it as being weird, ridiculous or
irrational. No public intellectual or think tank challenges it. No public
discussion or debate is held. That's the Indian way...
Dr Ambedkar in his book  Annihilation of Caste, argues that the caste system
makes Hindu society uniquelyincapable of freedom, liberty, equality and
fraternity. Stated with brutalhonesty, it is basically a primitive(feudal)
society driven by weird rituals and guided by assorted godmen andgurus.
Rationalthinking has no role here.
It required foreigners (the British) to outlaw the barbaric customs of
sati(burning of widows on thehusband’s pyre) and thugee (the ritual murder of
innocentpeople to propitiate the gods) in the 18th century.
Naipaul wrote in the 1960s: "Magic and thoughtless rituals are an Indianneed.
They simplify the world and make up for the intellectual failure – less
afailure of the individual intellect than the deficiency of a
closedcivilisation, ruled by myth and ritual."
Until the rationality comes to be appreciated by the Hindus, modernitywill
continue elude them.

[Goanet] Did you know: Goa came under Hindu Rashtra in June 2017 and many cars 'purified' with cow urine?

2017-07-23 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
How many know that an All-India Hindu Conference was held at Ponda, Goa on
14-17 June 2017?
Declaring a Hindu Kingdom or Regime:
A man from the audience calls out “Jaitu Jaitu!”   [meaning?]
All cheer “HinduRasthrum!”
The man repeats “Jaitu Jaitu,” and the people shout back: "Hindu Rasthrum".

Next came Sadhvi Saraswati, 23, – apreacher with the  Sanatan Dharm Prachar
Seva Samiti ('sadvi' is presumably a female sadhu).  She sat on the
stagealongside four fellow ‘gau rakshaks (cow protectors)’.A televisionscreen
begins to show footage suggesting a cow being culled.
That was her cue to sit up and bow her head in silent prayer. At the end of the
prayer, she came to the podiumand said in Hindi: “I want to clarify what I said
earlierthis morning; I ask Hindus to pick up their weapons in defence of the
cow,our mother.”
Then she adds: "But this is not only for Hindus. Does the cow, our
mata, differentiate between Hindu and Muslim when giving milk? And anyone who
dares to hurt hermust be hanged to death!”
The crowd – no more than 120 people excluding the press – isenthralled.
“Jai Hind!”they clap and cheer with fervour. Followed by “Har Har Mahadev!”
The announcer thanks the sadhvi for her “amrut vani” (sweet,nectar-like
speech). She grins back and is soon escorted out. She accepts noquestions from
the press.Next came another practice of Hindu Rashtra: car cleaning in a novel
way.
Three men walkedinto a parking lot at Ramnathi Temple in Ponda. At one end of
the lot was aline of SUVs, their muddy tyres telling the tale of a long
journey, and, at theother, cars and heavy vehicles stood neatly aligned, their
drivers taking a napinside.
Exchanging few words, the three got towork. One started chanting as he circled
each car; the second sprinkled whatthey later confirmed was gaumutra (cow
urine) on the roof of all parked cars;the third, carrying incense sticks,
circled the vehicles twice around all fourmuddy tyres. A fourth man then opened
all the doors and sprinkled a secondround of gaumutra.
“This is shudhi karan (purifying),”explained Abhijit Nadkarni, a spokesperson
from Hindu Janjagriti Samiti, whichorganised the convention. This is a free
service — for all vehicles at theparking lot. Nadkarni said, “Their car needs
shuddhi karan. We do it to all objects — watches, clothes, sometimes even
handbags. It’s a spiritual exercise.”
Heemphasised, “gaumutra purifies.”

He has merely listed the official enemies of the West. But what of the crimes
of the Christian West? There is lot of material on this subject. Let me quote
from a great scholar, novelist & philosopher, Andre Vltchek:
Europe has not been built by the exertions and honest labor of the European
people.  It was built on the enslavement of colonized peoples; it is built on
the unimaginable horrors visited on those hundreds of millions of men, women
and children, who were slaughtered mercilessly by the colonial European powers.
It is built through oppression, terror, and almost exclusively, on theft and
plunder.

European colonialists ‘Open veins of Latin America’. They stole everything they
could lay their hands on; in what is now Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil, Chile,
Mexico and so many other places in Latin America. Some of the stolen gold was
used to decorate the Vatican Churches and basilicas. The Spanish forced the
native Bolivians to mine the silver. Nearly 10 million perished in the process.

Europe committed slaughters that are unimaginable in today’s times, like those
by the Belgian king, Leopold II, who was responsible for around 10 million lost
lives in Congo, in the days when Congo had just a fraction of the population
that it has now.

Such is the case with YourNewsWire.com.

Check this article: It Is Now Illegal To Wear An Anonymous Mask In America

Actual report from Arizona Capital Times:

Espinoza and Brown said a security official pointed out a man in a Guy
Fawkes mask and wearing dreadlocks as an agitator, but they said he sat
quietly as the main agitator led chants.

Before this, YourNewsSite also published a video of the late Stanley
Kubrick admitting that he helped NASA fake the U.S. moon landings.

Snopes.com has a great debunking of that.

November 2016 Revision: (You’ll be seeing a lot of these crop around here

ClickBait, and Biased, for example. We resisted adding a
“Questionable/Dubious” category, but it certainly fits YourNewsWire most of
the time. We’re confident of one thing, though: They are certainly
ClickBait.

Thousands Of Russian Troops Surround US Border is a rather alarmist
headline. More to the point, the article cited WhatDoesItMean.com, which is
in all likelihood the same people. They are both connected to the
now-defunct thepeoplesvoice.tv, which apparently ran on a bevvy of fringe
topics and conspiracy theories.

Then there are headlines like Turkey To Assassinate Assad – World Prepares

Bernie Sanders Suggests Election Is Rigged, Unendorses Hillary Clinton,
which was only kinda-true. While Snopes disagrees with the rigged

few can determined who runs a country of many is, by our standards,
“rigged” on an abstract level. Meanwhile, Snopes might be arguing more
definitive definition of rigged (suppressed votes, voter fraud). Still,
even in the Your News Wire article and the Sanders Facebook update it
cites, there is no mention of a Hillary un-endorsement

During colonial times, they have played hell on innocent native children in
boarding schools run by the Church in the US, Canada, Caribbean, Australia,
Pacific Islands etc
So what sort of church do we have? And what happens to the solemn vows the
clerics take? Essentially it is a European church who set up the admin
structure and formulated all doctrine and liturgy. The Indian priests were just
coolies who had to carry out whatever the Vatican ordered. For example, they
had to put on those ridiculous cassocks, learn Latin & use the Euro-type
communion wafer. No questions asked.
Returning to the site named by Fidibus, here's a piece on the Polish senior
cleric  Wesolowski:
---

The videos and photos of child pornography were stored on a computer in the
office at the Holy See diplomatic compound in the Dominican Republic, where
Wesolowski served as papal nuncio in Santo Domingo. After being publicly accused
of procuring child prostitutes last year, Wesolowski was secretly removed from
his post as papal nuncio in Santo Domingo by Vatican officials hoping to avoid
an embarrassing public prosecution. Authorities in the Dominican Republic have
been calling for Wesolowski’s extradition: a court there has opened a case
against the former Vatican ambassador, and the attorney general wants to
criminally charge Wesolowski.Officials in Poland, Wesolowski’s country of
origin, and where he has also been accused of sexually abusing children, are
also calling for his extradition.According to Vatican detectives, some of the
horrors found on the former Archbishop’s computer included around 160 videos
showing teenage boys forced to perform sexual acts on themselves and on adults
--Clearly, the
'Holy Catholic' Church has lost all credibility and is a bogus institution. In
fact, a few minutes ago I tweeted the Pope @pontifex and some others  about the
website and suggested it may be time to close down the Church.Eddie

[Goanet] CAT out of the Bag

2017-07-04 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Advocate Aires Rodrigues continues to render sterling service to the citizens
of Goa by revealing the recent unsavoury antics of the ruling party (BJP).First
(Part 1) he informed us about the illegal meeting organised at the airport by
the BJP Chief/Emperor Amit Shah on 1st of July. He then promptly filed a
complaint. The Chief Minister of Goa was among those ordered to appear at the
meeting. Apparently this CM hasn't had the civility to explain to the people of
Goa how the meeting came about. And how has the local press reacted?
Next (Part 2), Aires filed another complaint against the BJP for defacing
public property in Goa's capital, Panjim. In his own words,
"the BJP had blatantly and illegally defaced public property in many parts of
Panaji by illegally putting upbanners, posters and flags without the requisite
permissions and further denying the CCP its much needed revenue. This illegal
and very highhanded act of the BJP was obviously in connivance and collusion
with the officials of the CCP who conveniently failed to uphold the law...
Panaji over the weekend had witnessed complete and gross abuse of power by the
BJP with CCP officials acting as stooges of the ruling party, "
Part 3: the indefatigable Aires didn't stop there. He discovered details about
the plan for the fateful meeting of 1st July and posted on GoaNet:
" Goa’s Dabolim Airport was meticulously pre-planned four  days earlier while
maintaining total secrecy knowing that such a meeting was prohibited by law.
That Airport public meeting was therefore not included in Amit Shah’s two day
Goa itinerary which was circulated in advance to the press. With Amit Shah
scheduled to arrive at 11.15 am, the officials of the Electricity department
and the PWD were there at 9.30 am to quickly set up the stage, red carpet and
the sound system.
So despite all this, the very devious BJP today have the audacity to claim that
the meeting was spontaneous and the arrangements were made at the last minute
by the party workers."
It is clear that the BJP seniors consider themselves above the law and are
prepared to organise any event that suits their agenda. And they expect all the
minions of the state to fall in line. What might they do next? One can
conjecture that they might order saffron goons or vigilantes at short notice to
descend on a selected Goa village (or even church) and disrupt an ongoing
function. An ominous development.Goan Christian folks need to be prepared for
the worst in a newly imposed Hindu Rashtra. How do Goans react to Aires'
revelations? Sadly, there's hardly been been any comment on GoaNet.

Re: [Goanet] COMPLAINT FILED OVER ILLEGAL PUBLIC MEETING HELD BY THE BJP AT GOA’S DABOLIM AIRPORT

2017-07-02 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Advocate AIRES RODRIGUES has filed a complaint againstthe illegal meeting held
at Goa Airport on Sat, 01 Jul 17. He said:

“A complaint has today been filedby against the alleged illegal and
unauthorized public meeting organizedyesterday by the BJP at the Dabolim
Airport premises which was addressed by BJPNational President Amit Shah.”

==
Goans should be grateful to Advocate Aires Rodrigues for filing a
complaintagainst the illegal meeting highhandedly held by the BJP national
chief AmitShah and his party at Goa’s Dabolim Airport. It was a courageous act.

Aires reminded us in GoaNet that
“- it’s the first time ever in the history of the country, a public meetingwas
organized in the high security precincts of an airport;
- the holding of thatpublic meeting within the Goa airport premises was a
complete and gross abuseof power;
- the illegal public meeting was attended by Goa Chief Minister
ManoharParrikar, Goa BJP Chief Vinay Tendulkar, and hordes of others herded to
theairport for the meeting.”

The blatant illegality of the meeting suggests that thepromised Hindu Rashtra
has arrived – anera in which the BJP Chief can act as Emperor and bypass
existing laws. The BJPcronies too may be above the law but non-Hindus may well
have to put up with a lawless regime.

Wewait to hear what happens next. I hope Aires will keep GoaNet informed.

A complaint has today been filed by against the alleged illegal and
unauthorized public meeting organized yesterday by the BJP at the Dabolim
Airport premises which was addressed by BJP National President Amit Shah.

In the complaint jointly addressed to the Secretary of Ministry of Civil
Aviation, Chief Secretary of Goa and the Director General of Police it has
been sought that an FIR be registered against the organizers of that
illegal public meeting besides Amit Shah and all the other dignitaries
present at the meeting as they cannot now claim to be ignorant of the legal
provisions.

In the complaint it has been stated that probably for the first time ever
in the history of the country, a public meeting was organized in the high
security precincts of an airport when the Goa BJP held a public meeting
addressed by party President Amit Shah at Goa’s Dabolim Airport.

In total violation of law, on display was sycophancy at its worst, when
Amit Shah arrived and contrary to the Airport regulations was allowed to
address a public meeting of party workers within the airport premises.

Pointing out that the Goa civilian airport functions within the Naval air
base and is a Defence establishment, in the complaint it has further been
stated that a carpeted podium, chairs for the dignitaries and a sound
system was all set up at the entrance of the Dabolim airport terminal where
Amit Shah arrived at 11.15 a.m. and addressed the public meeting with the
Airport and police officials conveniently looking the other way while the
law was being blatantly breached.

Alleging that the holding of that public meeting within the Goa airport
premises was a complete and gross abuse of power, it has been also stated
that the illegal and very highhandedly organized public meeting was
attended by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Union Minister Sripad Naik,
Goa BJP Chief Vinay Tendulkar, Ministers and MLAs besides hundreds of
people who were herded to the Airport.

Holding of that public meeting also constituted an act of an unlawful
assembly as defined in Section 141 IPC, by which not only mischief had been
caused but also other people who were arriving or departing from the
airport were restrained by the blockage due to the public meeting, as also
the airport being considered a security installation, no public meeting
could have been held and that it also amounted to a violation of the other
enactments covering vital installations like Airports.

In the complaint an immediate inquiry has been sought to ascertain which
officers were responsible in allowing this illegal public meeting and that
stringent action in accordance with law be taken against the erring
officers for having acted as cronies of a political party, in rank
dereliction of their duty.

Good info from Aires. So it seems Goa's CM apparently doesn't  trust  1) anyone

A few questions:
- Are we allowed to ask: from what source will be the CM pay the medical bills
in the US?
- has the CM explained the point of the Meeting held at the airport on the
orders of BJP Chief/Emperor Amit Shah?- why have Goa's people shown no interest

But whatever be the reason for Manohar Parrikar’s absence from Goa, the

As was expected the power intoxicated and obsessed Manohar Parrikar has

Re: [Goanet] Does Religion Offer Justice?

2017-08-09 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Aren't these Christian beliefs, all concocted by Euro theologians & bishops,
farcical? We have been fed on myths & fables for too long. Why on earth does
God need to have a son? To us earthlings, 'son' means the product from the
physical relations between man and woman. In the Euro Christian case, the
father is God  but wait - isn't God genderless! So he decides to have
'relations' with one of his own creatures - Mary, a Jewish teenager. Could
anything be more weird??
How was this accomplished? We are told that the power from the Most High
'overshadowed' her and she conceived. Now we are getting into magic and
fantasy.  Ha, ha.
But, why go through these spiritual gymnastics?God had created defective
creatures and he wanted to redeem them. How? As Roland says: through "the cruel
and unnecessary death of the son."

So after man's redemption, why is the world rotten as ever? Why do people (like
Trump, Natenyahu and Modi) continue to prosper despite their crimes? Was the
redemption in vain? The way out of this impasse is for our Asian theologians
(and there are brilliant ones like John, Amaladoss and Pieris) to devise our
own Christianity. But would they have the guts and would Europe allow this?
Until then, let's wait for the next redemption.
The next Mary might be a Goan, who knows?

Atheists on the other hand say that one can expect that people will sometimes
get away with crimes against other people and prosper till they die with little
price (but for one's conscience) to pay. It is an inevitable part of the human
condition.

That is an honest stand compared to the hypocritical stance of the major
religions. Islam for example teaches that Allah will forgive anything except
'shirk' (belief in another God) or 'riddah' (apostasy, a Muslim denying Islam).

In Christianity, you may do anything, yes any crime, no exceptions, and with
asking forgiveness you will enjoy heaven.

Aside from the fact that no one has any good evidence of heaven or hell, it
also means that the concept of god's justice tempered with mercy is a fallacy.
In Christianity you are told of hell, a punishment from the father, but you are
offered a loophole of redemption due to the sacrifice, meaning cruel and
unnecessary death of the son.

In human terms, a judge can convict you and with mitigating circumstances can
give you a lesser term than you deserve. Justice tempered with mercy. With
condemnation to hell, how is there mercy? In the religious context, afterlife
believers should admit that for them, justice and mercy are mutually exclusive
terms.

I for one don't understand how the Goa government works.
I read that because they robbed the formation of government from the Congress
in a very stealthy manner that Parrikar is the CM of Goa.
Could someone explain this 'stealthy manner'? How was it accomplished?Lawfully,

Also Aires says that Parikar did this and that to promote his interests.
So wasn't he checked or restrained at all by a single MLA? Was he free to do

In the Vision Document for Panaji, 2012, Manohar Parrikar declared in the
cover page `I once again pledge my life and soul to this beautiful city of
Panaji'. Did Parrikar mean what he said or was he making a commitment
devoid of meaning? He had also stated that he would not contest again. 80%
of the promises made in the Vision Document 2012 was not done, so why
should the people of Panaji vote for him again? For 23 long years he has
been representing Panaji, but the majority of the development works have
not turned into reality. So why shouild the people of Panaji repose their
confidence on a politician who cannot keep his word. Also it may be noted
that in 2012 the BJP got 21 seats in the Assembly and they were reduced to
13 seats in the 2017 elections, a very clear mandate against the BJP by the
people of Goa. It was only because they robbed the formation of government
from the Congress in a very stealthy manner that Parrikar is the CM of Goa,
what he does not deserve to be as this is an immoral government, aided and
abetted by the Centre as well as in collusion with the Governor of Goa. All
the people of Panaji should reject him just like his predecessor Laxmikant
Parsekar was rejected with a massive margin of 7000 votes by Dayanand
Sopte. The people of Panaji should not be fooled by the promises made in
the Panaji manifesto by Parrikar as he is not known to keep his promises
and is become a person who makes U-turns for his personal political vested
interests and does not keep the interests of the people at heart. It is
time for Panaji to elect a humble and honest politician.

President Pratiba Patil was another joke. Her husband was indicted in a land

They lack the poise, style, vitality, wit or sparkle; facial features seem

The price? The purchase of some $2 billion of US military equipment.
Modi is also due meet the Israeli leader Netanyahu shortly and will be duly

Re: [Goanet] NOW RASHTRAPATI BHAVAN TO ALSO BE A BJP DEN

2017-06-27 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Hi Naguesh,India’s tragedy is that it has not produced distinguished leaders -
philosopher-statesmen like China, Singapore or Vietnam. The usual bunch of
Indian leaders have tended to be soaked in religious traditions or rituals and
have shown little intellectual acument.

Nehru was lucky because the British got him educated at a top institution in
England where he encountered new ideas and disciplines like History &
Philosophy which no doubt helped him fashion a new worldview. His fluency in
English helped him express his new thinking in this foreign language. The
vernaculars were no match for English.

But subsequent PMs (after Indira Gandhi) did not pass out from world class
institutions and their performance was predictably and consistently mediocre.
Quality and excellence have continued to elude Indian institutions and leaders.
Indian leaders have never been erudite and farsighted enough to compare with
East Asia.

PM Modi seems basically a peasant or village leader who has picked up modern
trappings here and there. But he certainly is unable to formulate an integral
vision of development. He is most at home with sadhus and swamis. He's coarse &
undiplomatic; he can't open up to minority cultures. The Hindu rulers just send
the Indian armies or police to control minority regions - Kashmir (Muslims),
North East (Christians), Central India (tribals).

It may be worth quoting from Mr Jagmohan’s My Frozen Turbulence published in
1991.

There is something basically wrong in present-day India that takes her astray
in almost every sphere of life. The country requires fundamental reforms in the
realm of ideas. During my somewhat tumultuous and eventful in public service, I
was fortunate to have had a close look at the state of our institutions. All
along I felt that some vital planks were missing in our edifice. It was bound
to totter and it often did.
We need a re-awakened and rejuvenated Hinduism that has shed its flabbiness,
cleared its clogged arteries and recouped its vigour and buoyancy. This new
Hinduism would create a new Hindu who is just, compassionate, creative and
contemplative; a Hindu with a clean conscience, one who believes in the
fundamental unity of man

[Goanet] BHU (Benares Hindu University) under Hindu Rashtra

2017-09-26 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Indian universities have long had a poor international reputation compared with
East Asia & the West for academic performance and research. For example, not a
single Indian university has appeared within the top 300 in the annual global
rankings for higher institutions. Indians may be proud of Delhi's JNU but in
2014 it ranked 80 among Asian universities.
And now the ignorant bigots from the BJP-RSS ruling hierarchy are determined to
subject universities to Vedic rules. The last two years have seen massive
student unrestacross universities in the country because of a systematic attack
on theautonomy of educational institutions and the freedom of students. Among
those that have witnessed outrage are:
FTII, Hyderabad Central University, JNU (Delhi) orNIT (Srinagar).
Now it is the turn of Benaras Hindu University (BHU) which houses around 40,000
students.
Modi’s government has appointed Girish Chandra Tripathias the vice chancellor
because of his 40 years of association with the RSS. He has openly espoused RSS
ideology and justifies it  “When the Indian government itself is of the RSS,
there is nothing wrong in establishing an RSS’ shakha in BHU.“
He promptly expelled renowned socialactivist and Magsaysay award winner
SandeepPandey for not toeing the Sangh Parivar’sline.
Does this Tripathi have any academic credentials? What is his specialty?
This is probably not important for the intellectually vacuous babus who run the
the BJP government and with no clue about University goals and academic
standards.
The BHU admin has come down hard on the girl students:
- no usage of mobile phones after 10 pm.
- no use of 24×7 library at night [ VC has said that “girlswho study in the
night are immoral,” ]
- women  not allowed to use the bus facility, a service meant for all students
(as per prospectus)
- women cannot consume meat [ VC says it makes them impure]. Men may have meat.
- student demand for cyber library was refused [Reason: such a library will
encourage watching pornography. In addition, students need not study anything
outside the syllabus”]
- women have to sign a pledge not to take part in any protest or agitation
- they are notallowed to participate in any socio-cultural activities outside
the campus.
- In the name of safety, women have a curfew of 8 pm, while men have none.
- womenwearing short dresses and skirts will be warned by the administration.
-Mixing of the sexes is discouraged. VC says “boys and girls hanging out
together is against Indian values”.
- Anyone found celebrating Valentine’s Day would besuspended. Finally, the
Upper castes form the majority of the administrative body, while the positions
meant for people from the reserved categoriesremains unfilled. There is no
space for students to question or exercise their rightto dissent and women are

[Goanet] India's rape culture is thriving

2017-09-29 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

GANGRAPED by 23 men in RAJASTHAN

On 25th September, a woman, 28, told the police in her complaint that while
standing on the road at 2.30 pm in Bikaner, Rajasthan, two men in a Bolero SUV
offered her a lift. When she refused, she was forcibly pulled inside the car
and raped. The horror didn't end there. Tragically, it had just begun.
The men took the victim to a village where they called their friends who then
raped her one by one. The woman was dropped back at the exact spot from where
she was picked up at 4 am the next day after an almost 14-hour-long ordeal. It
turned out that 23 men had raped her.Everyday we hear stories of rape of minors
and of women - at home or at work, mentally-ill women, women out on the street
and women anywhere and everywhere. The scale of the problem has desensitised
us.Narrated by @vanadan5

ASIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION (AHRC)
In Jun 2014, AHRC had issued a Report of the rape situation in India, calling
India the Rape Republic. Here are excerpts from the Report:
Every 20 minutes, a rape is committed in India; but only 4 out of 10 incidents
make it to the
country's justice system. Such low reporting of sexual assault, due to legal
complexities and ideas of ‘honour’ and ‘shame’, make the possibilities of
justice remote, and create an insufficient deterrent in society.
Recent gory reports, such as the hanging of raped girls, the sexual assault of
a female judge in her official residence, the pumping of bullets into the
private parts of a woman after an assault, and the burning of a dead body
following a gang rape, are sufficient evidence to conclude that the 'system'
has systematically failed. An
insensitive, poorly funded, inefficient, and unnecessarily hierarchic structure
called the criminal justice system has proven nothing but a demon to women
seeking justice.
+WATCHING PORN IN GOA  - a

watch 28 rapeporn videos a week."

The survey, he said, was conducted across 10 colleges in the state. Thesurvey
also tries to draw a link between watching rape porn videos and thecrime of
rape in real life.

"76 percent students said thatwatching rapes leads to the desire to actually

Re: [Goanet] Please remove your CORRUPT Director General of Police!

2018-10-27 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
 Dear David Cleaver,
Thanks for the immense time & trouble you've taken to discover all those email
IDs and to put forward your case against the DGP.
That a UK man has complained on a Goan public matter will certainly attract
notice and perhaps some of the powers addressed may sit up and take note. Who
knows?

But, David, do keep in mind that in Goa and indeed all of India, corruption is
a way of life, an insidious culture in which virtually all high officials are
immersed and nothing is likely to deter them from it. On a related matter,
about a third of the MPs of Delhi's Parliament are known to be tainted by
criminal connections. But who cares??
And while you are at it, kindly consider raising similar charges against the
highest officials of the land. Perhaps only the intervention and concern by a
foreigner & European in an issue of Indian governance might bring about some
change in this benighted land.
Congrats & good wishes.

Dear Madam,

Bearing in mind the mountain of court cases STILL piling up against this
fraudster, Ajju Sindolli, I am very sure that you have correctly formed the
opinion that my relentless stream of emails on the topic is not simply a
personal vendetta against Sindolli, and that he is indeed someone who needs
to be properly dealt with under the law of India. However, it appears that
your very clear instructions to the Director General of Police are being
totally ignored.

Specifically regarding the issue of Sindolli’s “fake” passport, for which I
have provided all the documented evidence necessary to secure a conviction,
do you not find it a little strange that the Director General of Police has
taken no action?

As I have pointed out many times in the past, Sindolli openly claims that
“all of Panjim Police are in his pocket”. Well, what exactly do you think
he means by that? …. because in my opinion, there can be only one correct
interpretation. The key word in that boastful statement is the word ALL,
which obviously includes the DGP.

So, am I accusing the Director General of Police of being corrupt? …. Well,
yes, of course. Surely there can be no other reasonable explanation, can
there? For some reason, the DGP is failing to take action against Sindolli
– even when he is effectively being given an order from yourself to do so!
Madam, how does that make you feel? Because I know how it makes you look!

Whichever way you view the current state of the legal system in Goa, the
Director General of Police has to shoulder a large percentage of the
responsibility. But quite simply, this man is not doing his job properly ….
and somebody really needs to be asking why not!

In fact, somebody really should be asking how the DGP has found the funds
necessary to build his lavish palace at Sangolda! From what I have heard on
this aspect, *there is a big enough argument for an immediate
Disproportionate Assets case to be registered against the DGP*. Is he being
excluded purely on the basis of his rank? I hope you can see, madam, that
THIS is the basic problem.

(NOTE TO THE PRESS)

Yes, SOMEBODY should certainly be asking these important questions. But
isn’t that what the Press is for? In my opinion, not a single one of the
Press representatives receiving a copy of this email has the balls to
investigate any of these matters and speak the truth. Do you not see that
the purpose of these emails is not simply to get Sindolli jailed? The
bigger purpose here is to try to expose the endemic corruption within your
state’s legal and political framework. The Press should definitely be
playing their part here and should be picking up on every single detail,
especially when I am making serious accusations against top-ranking police
officers. In my opinion, you are ALL totally useless and a disgrace to your
profession. The purpose of the Press is to report on the TRUTH and spread
that TRUTH amongst your people. Instead of that, you are all sitting on
your arses, watching the whole system crumble before your eyes!

*It is time to take proper action against corruption! Start with an
investigation against Dr. Chander and ask him from where he got all his
money! *

End of rant …. for now.

Re: [Goanet] How Britain Stole $45 Trillion from India

2018-12-18 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Indians usually think smart after the event.A brief look at history: a few
thousand Muslim invaders from distant lands (Persia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan)
took control of Hindustan for 8 centuries and millions of cowardly Hindus could
do nothing about it - except play with cows, argue on caste, perform weird
rituals in temples, apply dots or dashes on their foreheads. Why couldn't they
organise and expel the invaders? Next came the Brits and it was the same thing
for another 200 years. Gandhi knew that his countrymen could not fight the
Muslim or white man; so he wisely chose the non-violent path to independence. No
use mourning now that the Brits robbed them. Indians should be grateful that
the Brits  introduced them to  lots of concepts, infrastructure, technology and
institutions (roads, railways, telephone, postal service, democracy, state,
parliament, Speaker, universities etc). The Indian National Congress was
created not by Indians but by a Brit (Alan Hume). Would there be any Indian
intellectuals without the British? About the Kohinoor diamond: guess what Prime
Minister Vajpayee said when asked to press the Brits to return the Kohinoor: he
said India had good relations with Britain. Why spoil them??

[Goanet] CANADA'S NIGHTMARE

2019-06-05 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Roland, you may not be aware of the recent (Jun 2019) damning Report
accusing Canada's Anglo government of race-based GENOCIDE against Indigenous
Women & Girls.
Wherever there are ANGLOS (UK, US, Canada, Australia, NZ), they strenuously
keep alive their White Supremacy and maintain racist policies against any
non-Whites, including the very Natives whose land and resources they have
grabbed.

The report is the result of an extensive inquiry commissioned by the
Canadian government itself in 2016. With over 1,200 pages, it paints a grim
picture of systemic mistreatment of ingenious women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA
(which stands for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer,
questioning, intersex and asexual) people. These groups of the indigenous
population have been singled out as the most vulnerable ones.

The report says:
"The genocide has been empowered by colonial structures evidenced notably by
the Indian Act (a controversial 1876 law regulating indigenous people's
reserves in Canada), the Sixties Scoop (a 40-year-old policy of taking
indigenous or mixed-race children from parents to be adopted by white
families, discontinued in the late 1980s), residential schools, and breaches
of human and Inuit, Metis and First Nations rights, leading directly to the
current increased rates of violence, death, and suicide in Indigenous
population" .

Re: [Goanet] Modi Must Be Sweating

2019-06-22 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
The water crisis will be the great test for Modi and his bigots.

Traditional Hindus don't believe in intellectual or technological skills like
cloud seeding (as the Chinese do) to attract rain. They appeal directly to
their many gods through some silly rituals.

For example, they capture a pair of hapless frogs & get them 'married'. That
apparently pleases the rain gods. Another practice: a few 'holy' men get into a
barrel of water (one man per barrel) and mumble some formulas to placate the
rain gods. How more primitive can you get in 2019?

With shortage of water, the Modi gang may succumb to their base instincts and
prescribe that upper castes have first choice over water. So the Dalits may
have a rough time.

Our Goa may be India’s smallest State within the world’s largest democracy,

What Goa has witnessed is a Jamboree of political hara-kiri sponsored by

St. John the Baptist (Sao Joao) rightly referred to such bandits as a Brood

[Goanet] Ayres says: open defecation is alive & thriving in Goa

2019-09-05 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Dear Ayres, Thank you for neatly explaining via a You Tube the status of open
defecation in Goa. You have thereby demonstrated your concern for the common
man and also exposed the lies of the BJP babus running Goa who claim that Goa
is open defecation free. You point out that labourers (mostly from Yogi's UP
perhaps?) freely relieve themselves in any available open space and that Indian
bus tourists signal their arrival by urinating near the bus stand.
People like these have no choice as there are no public toilets and the few
that have been built are poorly maintained. Perhaps Indian culture in general &
Hindu ways in particular have never prioritised sanitation and cleanliness in
their scheme of values.
A few years ago, the Economic & Political Weekly pointed out the perils of
defecating in open spaces. Here are excerpts:

A Reportusing data compiled by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) claimed
that scores ofchildren simply “disappeared” from a slum on New Delhi’s
outskirts after theystepped out in the open to defecate.
In thecourse of 16 months, between December 2013 and March 2015, as many as
171children were missing from the Shahbad Dairy slum in outer Delhi. Of these
66remain untraced. The common link in the story was that their parents had
sentthem to the nearby forest to defecate because there was no toilet in the
slumwith around 500 households. Of the 171 missing, five had been killed, 45
girlshad been raped or sexually assaulted. The story is achilling reminder that
the crisis of sanitation can be a matter of life and death for the
mostvulnerable. One in every two Indians continues to defecate in the open.
Theprice for the lack of toilets is paid not just by women, who are
oftenattacked, molested, raped and shamed, but also by children who are sent
outunaccompanied to defecate in the open. Not only was the Shahbad Dairy
slumwithout a single toilet, there was no toilet within a two kilometre
radius. After the disappearances, parents stopped feeding their children any
food aftersunset.Read more:

2019-08-07 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Hi Dom,

I couldn't quite follow your line of thought.
Your choice of words is intriguing but also more cryptic than clear.
What are 'ancestral perceptions'? And what has 'astral' to do with them?
You then name three architects, including a legendary Egyptian and move on to
Fr Jose Vaz, now a saint. No black or brown Catholic can become a saint without
formal approval by the holy white guys at the Vatican.

It is true that it took nearly three centuries for Vaz to become saint.
First, a bit of history:
Vaz died in Kandy (Ceylon) in 1711 after a long illness. His cause for
sainthood was taken up within two years of his death by the Jesuit Bishop of
Cochin. Vaz's order, the Oratorians, investigated his 'miracles' and sent the
results to Rome. Pope Benedict XIV was not impressed and dismissed the petition
in 1742.
The cause was revived at the turn of the 20th century. A great deal of evidence
on miracles was collected and submitted to the austere Pope Pius XII in 1956.
More petitions by bishops and laity followed. The Eurocentric Pope was not
moved.

[In contrast, the Spaniard, Junipero Serra, who had founded the Franciscan
missions in California in the 18 century was beatified in 1988 despite strong
objections from Native Americans and 40 American historians & anthropologists.
His cause was started just four years earlier, in 1884.
The European Vatican supports their own compatriots.]

And by the way, Dom, why your special interest in a Basilica for St Vaz?

Re: [Goanet] ILLEGAL POLICE SECURITY GIVEN TO FORMER MINISTER PANDURANG M MUST BE WITHDRAWN

2019-09-19 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Ayres, as a good citizen, brought to our notice a grave breach of the law by
Goa's BJP babus for providing police protection to one Pandurang who ceased to
be Minister since a year.
Well, done, Ayres.
Not too surprising. This is India and the law is not taken seriously here.
Everything depends on stature of the person in question.

Some questions:
- was GoaNet the best medium to report this matter? Did any media raise the
matter?
- have Opposition MLAs raised the matter in Goa's Assembly or don't they care?
- why do Indian senior politicians need police protection?

Senior politicians have reason to be scared because several of them are corrupt
or have a criminal background and fear reprisals. A Report by The Wire in 2018
found that a third of Chief Ministers have  criminal cases registered against
them. Maharashtra’s Fadnavis tops this list with 22 criminal cases, followed by
Kerala’s Vijayan with 11 cases and Kejrival with 10.

Criminal cases against  chief ministers include  murder, attempt to murder,
cheating and dishonestly property dealings and criminal intimidation.
So what happens now to the Pandurang fellow? How do the citizens protest to the
Chief Minister?Or should Catholics complain to their Bishop??More likely, most
people may not care. Life is hard enough without adding to their burdens.

Pandurang Madkaikar over the last one year is having a security of around

Re: [Goanet] Bible verses for the day

2020-04-30 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

How many of us know that we have a Bible scholar, Devak Argham, in our
midst who posts passages from the Bible every day? He presumably does
this for the edification of his readers.
Most of these passages are claimed to have been written some 2000 years
ago and the Old Testament some 500 years ago or earlier. It is not clear
who the writers were. John, Luke, Mark, Matthew are not considered the
actual authors of the Gospels bearing their names.
Devak Argham does not bother with such things. Nor does he care to
explain the meaning of the passages he innocently quotes or the context.
How does he select passages - randomly or by method? We don't know. It
is clear that treats the Bible with reverence and as a God inspired
Book. The books/gospels making up the Bible were selected and compiled
by a bunch of Euro scholars. Asians had no role, although Palestine, the
land of the Bible, is in West Asia. The traditional Goan holds the Euro
scholar with great respect and won't challenge him lightly.

We live in 2020 and we need to read the Bible critically and not fear to
express doubts or expose flaws..

Let's get to specifics.
A few days ago, our resident Bible scholar quoted from the Old Testament
(OT).

Do not let this book of the law depart from your lips. Recite it by day
and by night, that you may carefully observe all  that is written in it;

then you will attain your goal; then you will succeed.

But Mr Argham has not noticed that the OT also contains some scary
passages:

Here is an example from Leviticus, chap 26:14-3
Here the OT God is issuing threats against his people

# Divine vengeance

“If you will not listen to me… then I will bring upon you sudden
terror, wasting diseases and fever that will destroy your sight… I will
punish you for your sins seven times over… I will send wild animals
against you, destroy you cattle. If in spite of this you still do not
listen to me … You will eat the flesh of your sons and daughters… I will
abhor you… I will turn your cities into ruins.” [

Hardly a caring God here, more the ravings of a bloodthirsty bully.

Can we accept a God who speaks like this or is it some fanatics posing
as God? In which case, we should question the authorship of the Bible.

[Goanet] Athanasio in trouble

2020-05-12 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Goanet folk may have not noted that Athanacio Lobo of Moira (now in
Canada) has been charged for 'sedition' for his online petition to
re-liberate Goa and perhaps rid the place of cows, sadhus and such.
Sedition is an offence created by the Brits to discipline Indian
nationalists but was removed from the Brit lawbooks in 2010 as no longer
relevant.

But not so the BJP babus, who just love the sound of the word and have
retained the offence to terrorize anyone they don't like.

And poor Athanacio has been targeted.
If he is a Canadian citizen by now, he has nothing to fear.
And surely he has acted in good faith.

[Goanet] Alfonso Albuquerque of Porvorim

2020-05-05 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Hi Dom,
I was moved by your courage to casually disclose that your dad started
as a coolie working at the Bombay docks and rose to be Chief Petty
Officer. That example is bound to have shaped your own values.
The little I got to know about you came from Alfonso Albuquerque, not
the conqueror, but an unusual guy who lived in Porvorim, on the main
road opposite Bank of India branch in the 1970-80s. Allow me to say
something about him.
Born in 1911, he was one of a large, well known Goan family, now mostly
scattered in Canada.
Alfonso went to London to study law in 1933 and travelled to Germany in
1936. There at a ball in Berlin, he met a blond German beauty, Ursula by
name, then aged 20. He danced with her the whole night. Ursula thought
him one of the handsomest men she had seen but frankly Alfonso was quite
dark-complexioned. Next day, the two were swimming at a local lake and
soon the courtship was on. It was the time when Hitler's Aryan ideology
and anti-Jewish views are reaching their peak.
Ursula had agreed to marry Alfonso and booked her passage to Bombay. She
arrived there in June 1939 when UK declared war on Germany.
The couple lived mostly on the outskirts of Mombasa. Alfonso switched
from law to chicken farming. Meanwhile tensions were brewing and the
children, Klaus and Claudia, left for the US on overseas study, followed
by their mother.

Soon Alfonso was on his own and he took the path of spiritual
liberation. His guru was UG Krishnamurti and under his teachings, he
appeared to have undergone a radical transformation in Porvorim, leading
him to do away with much of his worldly goods and live like an ascetic.
Meanwhile, his son had become a Professor of Sociology at Charleston
College, South Carolina.

To return to you, its was Alfonso who spoke warmly about you and your
artistic talents. But I don't recall much.
The point of this email is to ask you to fill us in on what you have
been doing in the USA.

[Goanet] Fwd: Pranab Da : A doyen leaves us

2020-09-01 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Anish, you have lavished fulsome praise on India's former President
Pranab Mukerjee but what are the achievements that merited the praise?

You say: 'The passing away of former President Pranab Mukherjee is a
huge loss to Indian politics'. What on earth does this mean? Indian
politics is just a morass of unstoppable corrupt practices and a third
of sitting MPs are tainted by a criminal background, if not convictions.
You say: 'Mukherjee's contribution towards nation building is something
that will never be forgotten.' How exactly did he contribute? You seem
to find it safer to speak in generalities.
'He also contributed extensively towards his home state of West Bengal.'
How? Again no specifics.
'His excellent knowledge of Parliamentary matters is something very few
present day politicians can match.' What knowledge and how do you
measure 'excellent'?

Anish, the fact is that this Mukerjee fellow was quite undistinguished
and in fact mediocre like most of the Indian leaders.
So what did he do sitting in that huge mansion Raj Bhavan built by the
British for their Viceroys?

Here a few things he did do:
According to the Hindu, 09 Sep 12, the President arrived at a
traditional reception and drove up to Tirumala, the abode of Lord
Venkateswara. On his first visit here after assuming high office, Mr.

Mukherjee will offer prayers at the crack of dawn on Sunday.
PTI 14 Oct 12 reported that 'President Pranab Mukherjee will perform
Durga Puja at his ancestral home in Miriti in West Bengal.
He will reach his home on October 20. He will perform the Puja from
October 20 to October 23. He will return to the capital on October 23.

A previous President, Pratiba Patil, revealed in June 2007, revealed
that she was in communion with the gods:"I had a very happy experience
here. The Baba came into the body of

Hriday Mohini Dadiji. He had a chat with me and made me very lucky."

Anish, you should get the picture. These Indian Presidents have nothing
of substance to say. They carry their gods wherever they go. There is
nothing of substance for the people. A waste of tax-payers' money.

NELSON LOPES also wrote in tribute to Mukerjee in a similar vein to
Anish, describing him as 'most astute, shrewd and knowledgeable (of)
politicians... (he had) a legendary knowledge of constitution,
organizational skills and policy making.' What are we to make of this
assessment?

By and large, Indian senior politicians come out as tired old men,
intellectual lightweights, lacking poise and persona, style, wit or
sparkle; the content of their speeches is banal; delivery laboured &
humourless. They have no new ideas to offer, no concrete proposals to
make; they prefer not to stray from the prepared script. They cannot
improvise or compose variations on a set theme. Poor at explaining
policy or constructing a moral vision of the future.
So they seek safety in generalities, stock phrases, buzzwords and a
string of banalities.
Overall they lack confidence and get deferential and self-deprecating
before western leaders.
They dared not censure the West for historic injustices, military
interventions, use of torture, etc

Indian leaders seem to leave the hard thinking to others while they
deliver banalities, clichés & platitudes.

[Goanet] Goa Day - is the issue still sizzling?

2020-08-18 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Jazz Goa had posted an old clip (2012) featuring Rene Baretto's idea of
Goa Day.
It's not clear from the clip whether he proposed the idea of World Goa
Day.
While it is agreed that Goa Day has been locally celebrated here and
there, the idea of World Goa Day seemed to have been mooted by the Goa
Sudharop group based in California.
To settle this minor controversy, why doesn't Rene Baretto assert
unequivocally whether it was his idea or not? (I presume he is still
alive and articulate.)

George Pinto of Sudharop can then comment in confirmation.

That should calm down the storm in the teacup.

Sub: World Goa Day (Goa Day)

Dear Goanet Members,

Pleased to set the records right in view of certain doubts in some minds
on the subject based on facts with regards to origin of Goa Day (Cecil
is right with his comments). The very first Goa Day was celebrated in
Kuwait in October 1995 by GOAN WELFARE SOCIETY – KUWAIT (GWS-Kuwait)
with the large patronage of the Konkani speaking community in Kuwait.
Dilip Chico’s one-man Band was flown in to perform for the Day and the
event was a great success with over 3,000 in attendance.

GWS-Kuwait celebrated Goa Day in Kuwait since 1995 every year with Food
Festival, Drawing contest, Singing Contest to preserve Goan Culture,
Goan Cultural Program with local talents/artists. Goan Stars were also
specially brought for the function to add flavor. The month of October
was chosen for the convenience of the Goan Community settled in Kuwait.
It was held year after year but stopped lately in compliance with the
local laws prohibiting such activities in Kuwait. GWS – Kuwait had an
ambitious plan to promote Goan culture among Goans leaving in Kuwait and
way back home to establish a Goan NRI City with like minds with all the
basic facilities like, school, library, ground, health facility, etc.
The undersigned Managed the affairs of GWS with a strong team of 12
members as President/associate to make room for New Blood after the
liberation of Kuwait in 1991until retirement in June 2010.

There is no doubt that Rene Barreto came up with the idea, thereafter,
to transform it to World Goa Day to celebrate the same in August every
year which idea was well supported by GWS-Kuwait to united Goans
worldwide.

From my limited knowledge the Gulf Goans had mooted the idea many years

before Rene. It was celebrated by the Goan Welfare Society in Kuwait and

also by the Qatar Goans.

[Goanet] America going to the dogs?

2020-08-28 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

I just read a scathing assessment of the USA by Paul Edwards of Montana.
Here is the gist of what he said. It rings painfully true.

1. What is happening to America is an unmitigated tragedy and there’s no
satisfaction in satirising or ridiculing it.
This diseased, battered country still stands, reeling in confusion,
outrage and endless violence.
Wit, humor, and irony lose all effect when change is not possible and
essential change is no longer conceivable in America.

2. The root cause is that our system has been built on injustice and
inequity... Our foundation was built on genocide, slavery and white
privilege and the nation evolved accordingly.

3. The last four years of Trump has forced into high relief the
grotesque rottenness of the polity that hallmarks our failed state.
The Trump era has advertised in grisly detail the vacuous arrogance,
blatant cruelty, bottomless avarice, and brazen aggression that has
insulted, violated, and alienated the world.

4. From our beginning, our Exceptionalist mythology has long taught that
Americans are a superior kind of people, just and heroic.
Yet our government has partnered with and coddled dozens of the vilest,
murderous maniacs that ever lived, arming their police states, providing
death squads and mercenary thugs.

5. The economic & social security of working people has been actively
undermined. But the titans of finance have enriched themselves
obscenely and used the War Machine to kill millions of peasant “enemies”
in places they couldn’t find on a map.

6. The people no longer believe that the state represents them. When
that faith fails, state authority dissolves, and there is war in the
streets.
Meanwhile, two old inept, and impaired buffoons catering to the .001%
are preparing for an election by the end of the year.

[Goanet] Prashant BHUSHAN speaking at the OXFORD UNION on Modl's government

2020-08-28 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
It was most instructive to listen to lawyer Prashant Bhushan at the
Oxford Union Forum on the sins & horrors of the MODI government.
The Oxford Union is rightly famous for hosting a range of high quality
debates.

India claims to have some hundreds of so called Universities but what
sort of research do they conduct there, if any?

And do they engage in public discourse of any kind?

Here are some of the points made by Mr Bhushan :
- Modi has brought havoc to the country
- he has wrecked the economy with thoughtless policies like
demonetisation

- he has destroyed over 10 million jobs in just one year
- he has destroyed all institutions that are meant to find out the facts
and tells us to rely on propaganda
- he has taken control of large sections of he media through
inducements & threats and turned them into instruments of propaganda.
- Modi stated without evidence that ancient India had developed plastic
surgery and Ganesha's elephant trunk is a fine example

- Modi has abandoned reason and critical thinking

[Goanet] THE WONDERS OF INDIAN DEMOCRACY

2020-09-23 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Three Bills were (deemed) passed without voting, despite demand for
voting.

Yet another first!
During the proceedings, the Rajya Sabha TV was switched off, just like
that.

Hence no record!

In Rajya Sabha two very important bills were passed by a voice vote. No
discussion at all!
And when the opposition asked for a review of the bills in a select
committee it was denied. When they asked for a counting of votes and not
a voice vote it was denied and the proceedings were not allowed to be
seen live with the Rajya Sabha TV shut off during that period.. Now is
this Democracy Mr.Modi? Why are such extremely important bills which
impact the entire farming community and all the people of the country
rushed and passed in just one day? Where was the discussion with farmer
groups?

And here is the reason why farmers across India are opposing these bills
and which each and every Indian must do:
The govt.is removing all limits on storing of commodities which means
big players like Reliance and Walmart can buy in bulk and hoard and sell
at their whims and fancies. It will eliminate the kirana shop guys and
the bandiwalahs of subzi mandis. And thr two farm bills will remove
government's role in protecting farmers from traders. Till date whether
a trader buys in Mandis or outside they had to pay taxes and provide
proof of how much they purchased. Now if they buy in Mandis they still
pay taxes but if they buy outside they don't have to pay taxes. So govt
also has no responsiblity towards such trade and besides it will
encourage traders to buy outside mandis. Therefore there is no
protection or greivance redressal mechanism.
These Farm Bills were passed without any debate, without any select
committee approval, without any discussions with Farmers or their
Representatives.

The two bills are:
1. The Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce Bill
Simply put, this bill allows farmers to sell their produce to private
players who are then allowed to stock and sell it into the market as per
their business strategies.

2. The Farmers Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services
This bill allows Corporates to get into agreements of Corporate Farming
with the farmers directly.
These bills basically allow Corporates to buy and sell as per their
business goals.

[Goanet] ARUNDHATI ROY SPEAKS

2020-10-24 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Is there such a thing as a Hindu intellectual? Hindus have never had an
intellectual tradition like the Chinese.

Intellectual inquiry and scholarship was held back by the caste system
that handed authority to the Brahmins (priestly caste)
who exercised authority over the others. In addition, essential records
were not maintained by the rulers.

Then at the start of the Second Millennium, Hindustan was subject to a
stream on invasions from the North West by sporadic Muslim groups.
Then in the 16th century, the Mughals took over much of the country for
nearly 300 years and they were followed by the British for another 200
years.

As a result, Hindus had no opportunities for governance and acquired few
skills in science or engineering. So their expertise in building complex
structures was limited.
The people sought consolation from their epics (Ramayana & Mahabharata)
and in religious rituals.

Temples and gurus became dominant influences.

The caste system was in force and the lower castes were subject to
severe discrimination.
Gruesome practices like Sati were imposed on Hindu women: widows had to
immolate themselves on their husband’s pyre. It was left to the British
to eradicate this barbarous practice.

There was little interest in scientific inquiry or philosophical
thinking. No intellectual base to construct theories and ideologies. No
formal education systems nor institutions for scholarly discourse were
set

up. And therefore no innovation, no invention.

Abu al-Biruni (c973-1048), a Persian scholar had accompanied the invader
Mahmud of Ghazni (998-1030) and he observed Hindu ways. He wrote“The so
called
scientific theorems of the Hindus are in a state of utter confusion,
devoid of any logical order and always mixed up with huge numbers and
all kinds of religious dogmas…"

Arundhati Roy has commented extensively on India. In her book, The Cost
of Living (Modern Library, 1999), she wrote:
”On the world arena, India is paid scant attention and remains one of
the most misunderstood and uncelebrated countries on earth.
The Indian elites have long been frustrated & their egos bruised by
their failure to meet with the American and European elites on equal
terms and to earn the respect they crave…"

The corpse of a Dalit woman was removed from the pyre under upper-caste
social pressure, and, despite police intervention, taken away for

That's Hindu priorities for you.
At Kakarpura village, twenty miles from Agra, it was admitted that it
was “illegal” for a “lower caste” person to be denied cremation by the
upper castes.
The “caste system was too deep rooted,” and that eventually after six
hours of altercation, a “balance” was found - in favour of the dominant
groups.

Re: [Goanet] PLEADING WITH PM TO RETAIN SATYA PAL MALIK AS GOA GOVERNOR

2020-08-03 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Dear Aires,

While a number of GoaNet regulars are lost in the wonders of Goan
literature and history, you stay focused on the real problems faced by
Goa.
Congrats. You are clearly for a Goa led by good governance and dedicated
to the welfare of all the people.

You may be right about Malik's credentials for governor but may you
perhaps miscalculated the way Modi's mind works?
Many would characterise Modi as a semi-literate peasant at heart but
awfully vengeful and malevolent and he seems driven by one big goal: to
make the life of Muslims as unpleasant as possible.
Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002 when the genocide of Muslims
occurred. Arundati Roy wrote in her book 'Listening to Grasshoppers'
(2002)
" The genocide began as collective punishment for an unsolved crime-the
burning of a railway coach with 53 Hindu pilgrims who were burned to
death. In a carefully planned orgy of supposed retaliation, 2,000
Muslims were slaughtered in broad daylight by squads of armed killers,
organised by fascist militias, and backed by the Gujarat government.
Muslim women were gang-raped and burned alive.
Muslim shops, Muslim businesses and Muslim shrines and mosques were
systematically destroyed. Some 1,50,000 people were driven from their
homes."

So why is this Guju so ruthlessly against Muslims?
On his very first speech in Parliament as BJP leader in 2014, he
reminded members that Hindus have suffered under Muslims for some 1200
years. The implication being that it is time for payback. (The first
Muslim invader of note was Mahmud of Ghazni in SE Afghanistan who
launched a series of invasions from 1001.)

New York Times (9 Oct 2015) observed, following the BJP victory in 2014:
"[Modi's] cabinet is mostly made up of too many coarse bigots... Mr

is not equal to the enormous task before him".
He attends Indian Science Congress annual meetings complete with
University regalia though it is not clear whether Modi holds any degree
at all. And attempts to trace his degree have failed.

Aires, to return to your plea to Modi, keep in mind that Governor Malik
is a Muslim and Modi is unlikely to regard him favourably no matter how
proficient he is.
Worse still, you have also asked for the removal of Goa's CM Sawant, a
BJP man. Any BJP official is surely sacred for Modi. So Modi is even
more likely to dismiss the Muslim Governor and retain the BJP CM.
You should know that Modi doesn't go by logic or rationality. All that
matters is hatred of Muslims & loyalty to Modi.

Today, I have penned a very personal letter to Prime Minister Narendra

I have explained the reasons why a darling of all Goans, Satya Pal Malik

for the benefit of Goa and Goans. His record speaks for itself.

I have also in my letter given enough reasons why the current Chief

misplaced priorities and faltering on so many issues besides the endless
corruption charges that he and some of his current Ministers are

2020-08-10 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
George Pinto did right to tell us how the idea of World Goa Day (WGD)
came about and to remind us that history and facts matter.

So can Rene Baretto set the record straight (if he still lives)?
Goa Sudharop is a charity that has helped deserving children and I
myself have contributed. But sadly it has failed to get the publicity it
deserves.

As for WGD, we never hear about it the whole year and then in August
each year, a few noises are heard from unexpected sources claiming that
the day is still alive.
So is a Committee elected each year? It is not clear where on the globe
the celebrations (if any) are held and what form they may take.

Some years ago, somebody claimed that we have a unique quality called
'Goanness'. It was not properly defined and it died out.

Is it worth pursuing the WGD idea or should it be given a decent burial?
Perhaps George should have the last say.

Colin, do not be fooled. History and facts are important and matter.
World Goa Day was initiated and started by Goa Sudharop. The idea was
proposed by Filomena Giese, co-Founder of Goa Sudharop. Goa Sudharop
paid for the initial set-up (website design, logo, domain, etc,) as one
of Goa Sudharop's projects. I had initially suggested Jan 1 as the date
- a new year, a new beginning for Goans. The late Jorge Noronha
(Portugal) suggested August 20 to coincide with Konkani being made the
official language of Goa (1992). Goa Sudharop heavily promoted the idea
of WGD. Rene was a Goa Sudharop advisor at that time but with a failure
of character Rene brought the publicity to himself and has never
acknowledged or corrected the record and promoted WGD as his own, never
contributing a single penny (I hear this is still the case). I
personally drafted many of the publicity emails Rene sent out, including
articles for WGD. For the record, Goa Sudharop did the initial work to
launch WGD and I personally spent a lot more time than Rene to get WGD
off the ground.

So why has no credit has been given to Goa Sudharop? This is typical of
some Goans who talk a good game about co-operation, unity but take all
the credit. Then they ask why Goans are backward compared to other
communities and Goans cannot move forward in unity,

[Goanet] Indian Constitution: the story

2020-08-07 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Anish Esteves (email dated 06 Aug) referred to August 5 as a 'dark day
in Indian History'. It was the day a year ago when Modi downgraded the
Kashmir government. So it was a very bright day for Modi and his BJP
gang who love degrading Indian Muslims in every way. Most of these BJP
high officials (Modi, Shah, Yogi, Rajnath...) are essentially country
bumpkins catapulted to high office who would be probably more at home
with peasants and sadhus in ashrams and cowsheds.

Anish then added that Modi "has taken an oath to uphold the
Constitution". (A national constitution is a set of fundamental
principles that prescribe how the nation is to be governed.)
What could this Constitution mean to an uneducated bigot like Modi? It
is written in English because Indian languages simply lacked the needed
vocabulary. The team, headed by Dr Ambedkar, had scoured Euro documents
and soon found that Indian languages were too primitive to match the
lofty sentiments they intended to include. They decided to copy the
Constitution largely from the (British) India Act 1935 and certain other
European documents. The preamble reads:
"We, the people of India, have solemnly resolved to constitute India into
a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic..."

Do Indians use such words? Can any of these pompous words be translated
into Hindi, Tamil or Bengali? With English literacy standing at 12% in
1949, few Indians could read the document, leave alone understand it.
Wasn't it presumptuous to say the people of India resolved to make India
a republic? What people? The fact is that Hindu India was largely a
primitive country governed by Europeans for over 200 years. And
Ambedkar's team wanted to make a good impression on the British and
other Europeans.

The Hindus had never even considered themselves a nation until the
British created one in the 19th century using the Westphalian notions of
sovereignty and territorial integrity - two totally alien concepts for
Hindus. The Hindus had been subjugated for a 1000 years by a host of
invaders, first Muslim, then British. Hindu lives were a weird mix of
rituals & festivals associated with assorted gods, and run by temple
priests, swamis and such. There were no higher institutions of learning.
Every institution was created by the British as well as the idea of
parliamentary democracy. The 1857 rebellion did generate some sense of
national consciousness. The British generously decided to educate a
select group of Indians in England for self-government. This exposure to
education opened the minds of persons like Nehru and Ambedkar who
encountered disciplines like the classics, history & philosophy and
concepts like democracy and parliament for the first time.
Virtually every facility & institution in India has been set up by the
British: infrastructure, the State, admin, educational & legal systems,
Parliamentary system (complete with two Houses & Speaker), army, etc
Nehru transplanted the British democratic system but was not bright
enough to adapt it to Indian conditions such as the rigid caste system.
The British had banned the barbaric Hindu practices, SATI (burning of
widows but not widowers) and THUGEE (murdering wayfarers to propitiate
some goddess Kali) but they left caste alone to use it for their own
advantage.
Ambedkar scoured Euro sources for drafting a constitution for India
and ended with a document couched in pompous language (with words like
secular, socialist), totally alien to the average Indian's
understanding. It had to be written in English as Indian languages
couldn't accommodate lofty concepts.
The Constitution was made public in 1949 when India's English literacy
was 12%.

Understandably, to people like Modi (with probably no degree), the
Constitution is an alien document which he cannot respect and taking an
oath under it has no meaning.

Sri Lankan writer Rohini Hensman wrote:

[Goanet] WHY is the US anti-CHINA?

2020-07-30 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
The issue of US growing antagonism against China has been aired in
GoaNet a couple of times but the writers did not side with China.
Traditionally, India, a rather primitive state compared with the US or
China, has sided with the US because it looks to the US for help when in
distress, as was the case in the border war of 1962. In the present
border clash, China again got the better of India (killing some 20
Indian soldiers and wounding over 70).
What can India do? The US felt sorry for India and made some comforting
noises. So Modi knows very well. China is too powerful for India and can
only join the western allies as a junior partner in their military games
to embarrass China.

But China is also proving uncomfortably powerful for the US. The US
Attorney General William Barr explained in a revealing speech on 17 July
2020 explained why the United States has escalated
its cold war on China. The roots of the US-initiated war lie in the
threat the People’s Republic of China poses to US technological
supremacy.
Barr argued that the “prosperity for our children and grandchildren”
depends on the global economy remaining Americanized.

Chinese-owned firms, in his view, must be prevented from dominating key
emerging growth sectors, including 5G, robotics, and AI.
These sectors must remain in the hands of Western (and preferably US)
investors.Washington’s major grievance with China is that the Chinese
Communist Party has vaulted China from the ranks of
poorer countries meant to serve the US to a high technological level
which threatens to topple corporate America from its top perch

of the global economy.

[Goanet] Doing Science the Hindu (BJP) way

2020-07-08 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
It seems Modi's India is ready to launch the world's first COVID19
vaccine on 15 August.
Sukla Sen in his email says there are 4 essential stages to go through:
first on animals and then three successive stages on humans.
Only on successfully clearing the preceding stage, the stage involving
human volunteers, is taken up.

There is no evidence in the public domain that even the very first stage
on animals has been duly carried out.
Now, the three successive stages are to be compressed - perhaps skipping
a stage or two, under pressure to meet the (absurd) deadline of August
15.

Perhaps, the plan is just not to showcase another grand achievement
under Modi, but also to place a huge order on the private enterprise
involved in developing the vaccine together with the ICMR.

Last week, a letter from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)
claiming that India would have a COVID-19 vaccine ready for public use
by August 15 was roundly panned by scientists. The letter, written by
ICMR director general Balram Bhargava, was addressed to 12 hospitals.
Bhargava asked them to begin recruiting participants for human trials
for the vaccine by July 7.

Experts familiar with vaccine trials quickly pointed out that both the
July 7 and August 15 deadlines were ridiculous, given the vaccine had
only been tested on animals thus far (with no result made public).

...
Vaccine development typically has multiple stages. Skipping or
shortening any of these phases could lead to a potentially ineffective
or dangerous vaccine reaching people.

...
Bharat Biotech has not published any data from its animal trials. As a
result, it’s more crucial that the phase 1 human studies that follow are
conducted with utmost care.

...
“The wording of the letter is absolutely wrong. It would lead to the
breaking down of systems you have worked very hard to create. You need
to speed up, but you certainly can’t bulldoze people into doing a
trial,” Jacob John, a professor of community medicine at the Christian
Medical College, Vellore, who was involved in developing India’s first
indigenous rotavirus vaccine, told The Wire Science.

Several vaccine developers are conducting challenge studies to be safe.
This is because the studies’ results can help them predict whether their
vaccine will worsen COVID-19 instead of suppressing it, a phenomenon
known as vaccine-enhanced disease. This could occur in two ways:
antibody-dependent enhancement (ADE) and vaccine-associated enhanced
respiratory disease (VAERD).

Bharat Biotech has not published any data from its animal trials, so
it’s unknown if it conducted studies to evaluate the potential for ADE
or VAERD. As a result, it’s more crucial that the phase 1 human studies
that follow are conducted with utmost care.

ICMR Must Decide if it Is India’s Council for Medical Research or its
Master’s Voice.

There are around 120 coronavirus vaccine programmes under way

"For these reasons, the Indian Academy of Sciences believes that the
announced timeline is unreasonable and without precedent, and is
therefore issuing this statement in the public interest. The Academy
strongly believes that any hasty solution that may compromise rigorous
scientific processes and standards will likely have long-term adverse
impacts of unforeseen magnitude on citizens of India."

ministers in a decade. A four-time chief minister and defence minister,
he had the talent, intellect and the drive to achieve, perhaps even
more..
- Manohar Parrikar was a popular, astute and grassroots leader of the
BJP who served as the chief minister of Goa for multiple terms, as well
as the defence minister of India. An indefatigable and spirited

He seems to have pushed the BJP agenda forward but what exactly did he
achieve in Goa? Was he interested in the minorities (Muslim, Christian)?

Was it fair to spend taxpayers money for his medical trips to the USA?
What else is left to memorialise him? Modi loves to erect a statue of
the alleged hero in a prominent place of course he never consults
the people.
In the case of Sardar Patel, Modi wanted a really tall statue in his
honour but the Indians couldnlt do it and the Chinese had to be called
to build to the specified height.
Now compare with the sober realities of Goa as narrated by a true son of
Goa, Aires Rodrigues:
- We are facing the brunt of the endless greed of our current
politicians who are adding more concrete buildings to an already badly
battered Goa without caring to first put the basic infrastructure in
place and with no respect for our fragile environment.
- The garbage and sewage discharge problem has reached a point of crisis
with the government having miserably also failed to tackle even the
stray dogs and cattle issue. Proper healthcare needs to be provided to
the poorest of the poor in hospitals and health centers across the State
as we cannot allow young lives to be lost for lack of proper medical
care.
- Creating quality educational facilities and delivering on a good and
dependable public transport system should have also been the thrust of
those in Power. Instead they have successfully transformed Goa into a
Gambling, Prostitution, Narcotics and Crime hub.
instead of acting with greater urgency and determination to eradicate
the neglect, stench and deterioration caused over the years, this inept
uncaring Government only cares about personal greed and power
grabbing.
Surely, ex-CM Parrikar must have presided over some of the conditions
that Aires refers to.

[Goanet] Forwarded: The Dangerous Incompetence of Narendra Modi and Jair Bolsonaro

2020-06-25 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

 Alarming news
about the COVID-19 disease comes from Brazil and India, where the
infection numbers are high, and the death count grows steadily. It
appears that a million people are now infected in Brazil (out of a
population of over 211 million). In India, it is difficult to even
estimate the number of those infected, since the testing levels are so
low, and the data is so poor. One suggestion is that at least eight
million people have been infected (out of a population of over 1.3
billion).

The Indian Council of Medical Research’s journal showed that the
government’s official report of infections in the country till early May
(35,000) actually underestimates the true number of infections (700,000)
by at least twenty. The official government numbers report that by June
400,000 people have been infected in the country, but the number of
those infected could be as high as eight million if we multiply the
official figure by twenty (following the Indian Council of Medical
Research’s assessment). The official death count is 13,000, which is not
a credible figure. One of the immediate findings of the Indian Council
of Medical Research’s study is that the government has not carried out
contact tracing with any seriousness. Of the people who tested positive
for COVID-19 in the study, the Indian government does not know how 44%
of them became infected. Lygia Clark (Brazil), Nostalgia do corpo
(‘Nostalgia of the Body’), 1964.
Neither in Brazil nor in India have the governments taken a
science-based attitude to the virus. In India, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi has promoted atmanirbhar (self-sufficiency), asking people to take
measures on their own to confront the virus. The central government, it
appears, will neither do anything nor be responsible. Medical resources
have been funnelled from public healthcare systems to private healthcare
over the past decades, which has been callous towards those infected by
the virus. Private hospitals and clinics are turning away patients whose
symptoms could be controlled using ventilators and oxygen; these
patients are largely from the middle class, which means that the plight
of the workers has gone unnoticed. Wilcker Morais (Brazil), Capitalism
in the Corona Crisis, 2020.
When Modi came to office in 2014, his government slashed the health
budget by 20% (they have subsequently increased it each year). Today,
India dedicates a miniscule amount (1.15%) of its GDP towards the health
sector, with the largest amount going to the private sector. Medical
costs in India are outrageous, with the out-of-pocket expenditure one of
the highest in the world. Even before the emergence of the coronavirus,
57 million Indians were pushed into poverty every year as a result of
such medical costs. Under the cover of the lockdown, these governments
have attempted to push through the worst of their unpopular agenda –
such as attacks on labour rights, the privatisation of healthcare, and
severe austerity measures.

[Goanet] Bible verses for the Day

Mr Argham, there are more crazy passages in Deuteronomy:

(Deut 7.1-11) When the Lord your God brings you into the land to occupy
and drives out before you seven nations mightier and more numerous than
you – the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites,
Hivites and the Jubesites – you must destroy them totally. Do not
intermarry with them, for that would turn your children to other gods.
Break down their altars, smash their pillars, hew down their sacred
poles and burn their idols. For the Lord has chosen you out of all the
peoples on earth to be his people, his treasured possession…

(Deut 7.16) You shall destroy all the peoples that Lord your God gives
over to you, showing them no pity.

(Deut 9.1-5) You are about to cross the Jordan today and dispossess
nations larger than and mightier than you… The Lord goes ahead of you
like a devouring fire. He will destroy them and drive them out quickly
as he promised …

(Deut 20.10-19) When you march to attack a city, make its people an
offer of peace. If they accept, force all the people to work for you. If
they refuse to make peace, engage them in battle. Kill all the males and
take the women, children, livestock and all else as booty for
yourselves… In the cities the Lord your God is bequeathing you, do not
leave anything that breathes alive. Destroy them completely - the
Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites- as
the Lord has commanded you.

(Deut 21.11-13) If you notice a beautiful woman among your captives and
are attracted to her, take her as your wife. Bring her into your home;
shave her head, trim her nails and put aside the clothes she was
wearing. After she has mourned her parents for a month, you may go to
her…

If a man finds that his wife was not a virgin on first contact, the
girl’s parents must provide proof of virginity by displaying 'the cloth'
before the elders. If the charge is untrue, the man pays 100 shekels of
silver to the girl’s father and he cannot divorce her. If the charge is
true, the men of the town shall stone the girl to death.
If a man rapes a virgin, she must pay 50 shekels to her father and he
must marry the girl.

the CCP. The law does not permit cowsheds within city limits but this is

not being complied with. Being the capital city, it should have been the

endeavor of the CCP to ensure utmost cleanliness and hygiene all over.
But

with the stray cattle merrily moving all around and messing up even the

footpaths it is a matter of health concern for the citizens. The Panaji

Market and the Bus stand lie in a despicable state. Even some of the
city’s

recently renovated gardens and parks are in a pathetic condition. The

St Inez and Rua de Ourem creeks continue to be a horrible eyesore with
our

nostrils bearing the brunt of that unbearable stench. The stagnation and

neglect of vital infrastructure, the environment and sustainable

development is all too evident.

Unless there is transparency and accountability in the working of the
CCP

with Zero Tolerance to any scams, Goa’s capital city will languish as it

is. With the CCP elections scheduled for March next year let us hope the

citizens elect young and bright Corporators who are knowledgeable
persons

with integrity and a vision to uplift the city.

Does the Panaji MLA Atanasio Monseratte have to be reminded of his
glossy

22 page Panaji Vision Document that he had released in the run to the
19th May

Panaji by-election last year? Not an iota of that mountain of promises
has

been fulfilled. All that has happened is that he betrayed his voters and

joined the BJP for his own vested interests.

[Goanet] Fwd: With 50, 000 COVID-19 Deaths, India's Outlook is Grim

2020-08-16 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

India's Outlook on the Corona Virus is Grim

The fight against the coronavirus was supposed to last just 21 days.

‌ The fight against the coronavirus was supposed to last just 21 days
but by August 15, India’s total case count stood at over 2.5 million
with over 50,000 deaths, writes Deepankar Basu.

On its way to this position, India has overtaken countries with severe
outbreaks: Iran, Italy, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom.

The number of cases keeps climbing up in an unstoppable fashion, month
after anxious month.

Today, only two countries in the world have registered a higher number
of COVID-19 cases than India: the United States at a total of 55,20,316
and Brazil with a total case count of 32,82,101.

Only the United States, Brazil and Mexico have reported a higher number
of COVID-19 deaths than India.

India is now the country with the highest number of new COVID-19 cases
that are reported daily. On July 20, India crossed Brazil to become
second.

And on August 7, India crossed the United States to become the country
with the largest number of daily reported COVID-19 cases.

Since then, the upward trajectory of daily reported cases has continued
unabated in India.

Amazing that these three top ministers can coolly abuse their power by
switching from an agreed project to a Hindu-biased alternative. They are
thereby confirming common allegations of BJP malevolence and treachery.
Even on health issues, the babus seem to lack basic ethics and
compassion.
More generally, these BJP babus (especially Modi’s ministers) seem to be
peasants at heart, driven by emotion and unfamiliar with the norms of
logic and rational thinking. Because Hindi is a relatively primitive
language, the babus are forced to think in English and from time to time
mumble impressive sounding phrases like 'democracy', ‘sedition’ but
can’t elaborate. Sometime ago, Modi advocated ‘modernity’ but couldn’t
expand – either he doesn’t understand the concept or cannot explain it
in English.

To return to Aires, has he, as a legal professional, confronted any of
the Ministers on the matter?

[Goanet] TRUMP the UNREPENTANT RACIST

2020-11-28 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Thanks, George, for that bold & brilliant post from Mehdi Hasan. I
didn't have his email, so couldn't copy this to him.
He is a remarkable writer and has written on a range of subjects with a
refreshingly original perspective.
We Goans, on the other hand, can go no further than call Trump 'worst',
'liar, 'narcissist' and such, and then return to our masses and novenas
(in a manner of speaking).
I guess we have been helpless victims of our colonial history, unable to
fight back.

In contrast, Trump or any western leader is usually a WHITE man securely
protected by privilege and unflinching loyalty of other whites. These
whites, all from Europe, came without visas and grabbed the whole
American land mass by the gun - the Anglos took the North & the Latins
the South. They turned the Americas into Europe II. The Natives were
slaughtered by the million and the Church (brought in by the same Euros)
did not object. The Euros believed theirs was the one true religion and
that it was their duty to convert all the Browns into Christians.

Pope Nicholas V decided to give Portugal full backing for imperial
conquest and issued a Papal Bull (decree) issued about 1454.

Here's an extract:
“Our joy is immense to know that our dear son, Henry, Prince of
Portugal, inspired with a zeal for souls has brought into the Catholic
fold the perfidious

enemies of God and Christ like the Saracens and Infidels...“
"After careful deliberation, we have conceded to King Affonso the
right, total and absolute, to invade, conquer and subdue all the
countries under the rule

of the enemies of Christ, Saracen or pagan."
“We wish the said King Affonso, the Prince and their successors to
occupy and possess exclusively the said islands, ports and seas and
all faithful

Christians are prohibited to encroach on their sovereignty…”

What arrogance from the European leader of the Catholic Church. Not a
thought is spared for the wishes of millions of brown indigenous
inhabitants of the region with their own beliefs and culture. They are
assumed to be an ignorant, godless mass to be 'saved' and brought to the
true European faith called Christianity.

Racism got built into the political and religious framework. As a
result, European leaders in the many states of the Americas had no
qualms in insulting and looting the browns and blacks. No media outlet
would rebuke the White leaders, no Church would condemn them.

Most of the whites voted for Trump in the hope that Whites would
continue to rule by majority.
But fortunately, the US demographics are changing and it is the votes of
the Blacks & Browns that led to Trump's defeat.

More shocks for the Whites are to come.

[Goanet] Berlin Conference 1884-85 and Israeli atrocities against children

2020-12-15 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Thanks, Adolfo, for your interest in colonial & imperial issues. I
thought I was the only one interested.
The Berlin Conference (Nov 1884 - Feb 1885) was convened to formalise
the Scramble for Africa and to settle territorial disputes flaring up in
the Congo.
King Leopold II of Belgium had claimed the Congo as his personal fiefdom
and promptly set about extracting rubber, ivory and teakwood for onward
despatch to Brussels.
The actual extraction was done by the native Congolese. Workers were
assigned a certain quota daily for rubber and if it was not met, the
worker's hands were hacked off.
(I would have included an image of severed hands but GoaNet does not
allow images. Pity.)

Not only was a natural resource looted but it was forcibly done by
native hands. That was the European way of colonial enrichment.
Nearly 10 million natives died from harsh conditions and punishment but
Brussels became a thriving capital.
A similar case occurred in Potosi in Bolivia, South America. The Spanish
marauders had discovered a huge silver mine.
The natives were forced to extract the silver and transfer it to the
ships waiting to transport it to Spain.

In the process, some 10 million natives died.
=

I'll stop at this point and return briefly to the narrative of the
Palestine children mistreated or killed by the Israelis from the year
2000. Coinciding with International Children's Day on 1 June 2012, the
Palestinian Ministry of Information reported that 1,456 Palestinian
children had been shot dead by Israelis since the Aqsa Uprising started
in late 2000. The ministry pointed out that all Palestinian children are
still subjected to constant abuse and attacks by Israeli occupation
forces and illegal Jewish settlers across the occupied Palestinian
territories. Dozens have been arrested by Israel in a campaign of
harassment in the occupied West Bank. Children in Palestine make up 52
per cent of the population. As well as almost 1,500 being killed since
2000, around 5,000 children have been injured and 215 are being held in
Israeli prisons; 175 have been arrested since the beginning of 2012.

In an average year, between 500 and 700 Palestinian children are
‘arrested’ (read: kidnapped) by IDF terrorists. In most cases, they are
asleep in their beds when these
terrorists break into their homes and drag them out to waiting vehicles.
Their parents are not told where they are being taken; they are often
held for weeks
or months without charge, and without access to parents or lawyers.
Multiple sources report that children as young as 11 are arrested, held
and tortured in Israeli jails.

Where is the international outrage? Why does the United States not only
stand quietly by, but actually finance the activities of this criminal
regime, to the tune of
$9 million every day of the year? Why are the lives of three Israel
teenagers, living in settlements that the entire world recognizes are in
violation of international
law, worth so much more attention that the hundreds of Palestinian
children arrested and tortured every year?

Don't expect brilliance and scholarly insights from them, especially if

In India's moribund intellectual culture, high officials are allowed to
offer erudite sounding opinions without evidence or to enter into
weighty discourse without adhering to basic logic or rational norms.

Thus Modi in an attempt to explain the Hindu god Ganesha's features
speculated that some high-powered surgeons in those heady Vedic days

it at that. He also added that Hindu aircraft engineers in those days

That's the status of BJP Hindu Science.

[Goanet] CAPITALISM & THE POPES 1. Colonialism

2021-01-01 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Capitalism is about wealth accumulation and the Europeans started
accumulating other peoples' resources in earnest following the arrival
of Columbus in the Americas in 1492. They had the advantage of ship
building and armaments.
Much of Europe’s wealth came about through colonialism, massive land
grabs (all of the Americas, Australia and NZ) and the genocide &
dispossession of the natives.

In 1452, Before Columbus’ voyage, Pope Nicholas V had allowed Portugal
to enslave Africans for conversion to Christianity. This encouraged the
Portuguese to enslave for trade purposes and the enslaved Africans were
taken

to Brazil, a Portuguese colony.
But the use of African Labour in the Americas really got under way after
Columbus’s voyage. Within 25 years, Columbus started his murder spree.
The Taino Indians on the island where Columbus first settled were
reduced by 95% from 300,000 in 1492 to 12,000 by 1517, a pattern which
was to be repeated throughout the Americas.
A massive amount of gold and silver was shipped to Europe and some of it
even used to decorate the Churches in the Vatican.

How did the Popes view the adventure of Columbus?
They were thrilled:
Pope Leo XIII writing to the American bishops (C4 1892), waxed eloquent
over the exploit of Columbus 400 years earlier:
He described it as "this immortal achievement… the highest and
grandest ever accomplished by man…"
"Through the constant interchange of business and ocean trade, an
incredible addition was made to our knowledge of nature while the
prestige of the European name was
marvellously increased… Those countries hitherto uncultivated and
inaccessible have made such rapid strides in civilisation, wealth and
fame…"

Not a thought was spared for the plight of the natives.
Pope Leo continued "The whole world is eager to celebrate the memory of
the event and glorify its author."

He obviously meant the European world.

More recently, in the 1980s, Spain and the Holy See (Vatican) proposed
to the UN General Assembly that the year 1992 (5th centenary of
Columbus’ arrival in the New World)
be celebrated as an encounter between Europe and the peoples of America,
with Europeans bearing the gifts of civilisation and Christianity to the
indigenous people.
The settler states of US and Canada supported the proposal but the
entire African delegation walked out of the meeting, returning with a
statement condemning the proposal to celebrate
colonialism. The celebrations flopped thanks to many highly visible
protests by indigenous peoples and their allies.

Re: [Goanet] America hangs its head in shame.

2021-01-07 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Hi Vivian,
You write like a white American. They are the ones who run the US.
Do Browns and Blacks count? What power do they have?
Why should you "hang down your head deeply in shame and agony"? What
crimes as a brown man have you committed?

You don't seem familiar with American history. When Columbus arrived in
the Americas, he did not come with a visa nor ask the permission of the
Natives to settle.
The white migrants don't do that anywhere (South America or Australia) -
they just slaughter the Natives and grab the land and their resources.
There were some 40-50 million Natives when the white migrants arrived.
In a matter of decades, 90% of the Natives had been slaughtered and the
White Christians are turned the US into a Europe II.

The Americans then proceeded to build an Empire overseas, starting with
the Philippines. The Filipinos resisted whereupon the Americans
proceeded to slaughter them in the thousands, In some 30 years over a
million Filipinos were killed in the early 1900s.In the Korean War
1950-53, some 2-3 millions were slaughtered and major towns razed to the
ground. In the Vietnam War, some 3 millions were slaughtered but the
Americans were defeated in 1975 and had to flee.

Here's an example:
Just after dawn on March 16, 1968, a company of U.S. Army infantrymen,
led by Capt. Ernest Medina and spearheaded by Lt. William Calley,
entered the small hamlet of My Lai in Quang Ngai province, South
Vietnam.
The villagers, mostly women and children, had no idea what was coming
that day. If they had, they’d have fled.
Despite facing zero resistance and finding only a few weapons, Calley
ordered his men to execute the entire population. In all, some 500
Vietnamese civilians were executed, including more
than 350 women, children and babies. Other senior leaders in the chain
of command had advised the soldiers of Charlie Company that all people
in the
village should be considered either Viet Cong or VC supporters. Medina
and Calley were ordered to destroy the village. They did so with brutal
precision and savagery.

[Goanet] CAPITALIST POPES: against Democracy but for Private Property

2021-01-09 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
Giving themselves fancy titles like 'Vicar of Christ', Popes had become
autocratic and resisted challenges to their authority. As Europe
modernised in the 19th century, the Popes resisted these trends as
threatening their authority. Pope
Leo XII (1823-29) forbade vaccination against smallpox as being ‘against
natural law’
[When they Popes couldn't find a Bible passage to back their claims,
they invoked some fictional 'natural law']

Gregory XVI (1831-46) even banned the railway in the papal states,
calling it the hellway.
In 1832, he declared that democracy was sinful, and that freedom of the
press was 'heretical vomit'. He also decreed that any Jew who insulted
the Catholic religion should be killed.
Over the centuries, the Catholic Church had ensured its survival by
siding with the ruling classes. Popes had insisted on crowning and
dethroning European royalty.
As a result, the Church was rewarded with vast lands in Europe by royal
patrons and in Latin America by the Christian conquerors. The Popes
found themselves more engaged
in administering their huge estates than focusing on their spiritual
mission.

About 1880, the US Supreme Court had made corporations ‘juridical
persons’, a legal device that allowed them to own/hold property for
good. Some 30 years later, the
Popes followed the US precedent and made the Church a ‘juridical person’
with right to hold property. Furthermore, this right was enshrined in
Canon Law (1917).

Then came the backlash. The leaders behind the Protestant Reformation
were the first to seize church lands. The French revolutionaries did
likewise, declaring them to be national goods.
Then in 1848, nationalist fervour swept across Italy and a republic was
proclaimed in 1849. The new government stripped the pope of his secular
powers and confiscated some of the church lands.
In 1860 Italy was made a Kingdom and all the papal states were annexed.
In 1870 Rome became the capital of Italy and the pope was confined to a
small patch in the Vatican.
Pope IX would not resign himself to his diminished status and in
self-pity proclaimed himself the ‘Prisoner of the Vatican’

POPE LEO XIII’s writings
As usual with all previous popes, Leo was preoccupied with Europe and
addressed himself to the European elites. It should borne in mind that
what has been called
the Catholic faith was simply the set of doctrines & teachings set by
the Europeans together their choice of Saints. Brown & Black clerics had
no say in formulating doctrine.
wrote encyclicals expressing concern about the welfare of European
migrants (mostly Italian) into the US but there is no record of any
Papal concern for the

American Natives whose land & resources been grabbed by the migrants.

t was the first time that a pope had seriously addressed social
questions. It was in response to modernist thinking and the rise of
capitalist ideology. More than
one encyclical condemned socialism outright but there was none written
against capitalist excesses. Colonial wars, territorial conquest and
unequal treaties
were in full swing at the time round the globe but there was no
encyclical rebuking or restraining European imperialists against land
grab, colonial
brutality and naked aggression. For example, in 1885 King Leopold of
Belgium had taken personal possession of the Congo region and some ten
million Congolese died collecting teak, ivory

and rubber for despatch to Belgium.
Penalties were severe for not meeting the quota by the colonial masters.
These included the severing of hands.
Pope Leo did have diplomatic dealings with Belgium but there is no
record that he

officially condemned King Leopold’s atrocities.

Under Reagan, for eight years, the U.S. government functioned virtually
without a chief executive.
It was hardly a secret that Ronald Reagan had only the vaguest
conception of the policies of his administration, and if
not properly programmed by his staff, regularly spouted embarrassing
statements.
He had no clue about the reign of terror unleashed in Central America
resulting in mounds of mutilated corpses dumped by US trained death
squads

in El Salvador or hundreds of thousands left homeless in the streets.
When later called before Congress to explain the Contra affair, Reagan
quite truthfully said he knew nothing.
Reagan's duty was to smile, to read from the teleprompter in a pleasant
voice, tell a few jokes, and keep the audience properly bemused.

2. JOHN PILGER in New Statesman (10 June 2004)

The Reagan regime helped create the Taliban and supplied Saddam Hussein
with chemical weapons.
For most of his two terms in the 1980s, Reagan secretly approved an
onslaught on El Salvador and Nicaragua.
In El Salvador, the CIA funded, trained and directed a National Guard
which, together with death squads it controlled,
murdered thousands, especially moderate reformers: those like Jose
Viera, president of the El Salvador Land Reform Institute,
and Archbishop Oscar Romera, who was shot dead as he held up the chalice
at Mass,
having made the mistake of preaching that the enforced poverty of his
flock was not God's will, and they should resist the American-sponsored
terror regime.

Hi E DeSouza and Roland,

I have heard about the Parsee CEO Poonawala's Serum Institute but sadly
the foreign media usually tend to underreport or ignore India's
achievements on anything.
I guess the reason is that India is not known for its scientific acumen
and peasant types like Modi and his pals (like Shah or Yogi) keep
hogging the limelight in virtually every area.
India has a very poor record in publishing world-class scientific
papers. China is the world leader here, beating the USA itself from the
last few years.

India claims to have hundreds of so called Universities'. What on earth
do they do? How many are known for their research output? No wonder,
Indian science is treated overseas as a joke, further corrupted by
something called Vedic Science promoted by the likes of Modi.

Little is known overseas what India's Serum Institute is doing. Has it
explained its role and its goals? You say it will supply the vaccine to
several countries. Why is this not reported overseas? Why does the
overseas media lack trust in Indian achievements?

Roland believes that "all your vaccines and all your pharmaceuticals
come from Indian enterprise".
What does this mean? I am not talking of Indian successes overseas. But
what on earth is happening in India itself?

Why is Indian governance so corrupt and chaotic?

Dear Eddie

There are, as you may have noticed plenty of claims by "Scientists"
regarding human rejuvenation.

Earlier there was the claim by Israeli Scientists, who said they could
reverse aging by using Oxygen hyperbaric chambers... Apparently this is
a "thing" in Florida where old people of means are spending a lot of
time inside such hyperbaric chambers- but so far there have been no
Benjamin Buttons

So as the Koreans are experiencing a birth rate crisis of epic
proportions, maybe their priorities are directed to increase the life
span and quality of life of the living?

Regarding the Indians, no need to sell them short. For example Adar
Poonavala the CEO of Serum Institute of India in Pune, says his company
is on track to produce and provide COVID 19 vaccines to over half the
worlds population. That would be over 3.6 Billion people.

Also you may have noticed that India is so far, going to be donating
Covid vaccines to neighboring countries like Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal,
Myanmar, Seychelles,Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Mauritius.

[Goanet] Pope Francis' banalities

2021-01-18 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Dear Ms Yeagle & Mr McElwee,
I have kept in touch with NCR off and on for some 20 years. You will
surely agree that the Church is in a state of crisis and has

little influence on society.
The NCR may claim to be racially diverse but sadly, it continues to be
Eurocentric and it is certainly not catholic.
You seem to be catering mainly the Whites. The views of two columnists
(Winters and McElvee) seem to be dominant. Some of us would welcome more
diverse and catholic voices.

Pope Francis may be Vicar of Christ, Supreme Pontiff etc but like his
predecessors, he plays safe by pontificating in generalities and
dispensing pious platitudes.
The Popes (all European) fear to challenge the western centres of power
(mainly the US and Europe) and just shuffle along the periphery. His
encyclical 2 of May 2015 is made up of 246 paragraphs, and Pope Francis
must be well aware of the history of western transgressions over
centuries but he
cannot find the courage (or support of the the Holy Spirit|) to name the
transgressors and condemn their policies
that have led to today’s global crisis (socio-economic and
environmental).

Sri Lankan theologian Tissa Balasuriya stated it plainly:

“It started with the expansion of Western Europe in 1492, an expansion
based on ‘violence, theft, seizure of land, murder, slavery,
genocide and untruth.’ The Christian churches have yet to recognize
their supporting role in this process. They benefited from it.
The West, by its military, economic, social and cultural power,
continues to siphon off the wealth of the Third World.
Globalization of capital and production, and the standardization and
homogenization of consumer tastes, is the method.
The World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade
Organization are among the main weapons”.

[National Catholic Reporter, Jan 22, 1999]
The German Pope Benedict 16 did not agree with Tissa's views on the
Virgin Mary and instead of resolving differences by calm discussion, the
Pope took the extreme step of excommunicating Tissa in 1997, that is,
expelling him. The Church is after all a European institution and racist
Benedict as boss simply dismissed Tissa as an unacceptable brown
upstart. The Holy Spirit (wherever he is located) did not intervene.

Pope Francis went on with his banal utterances:

(Encyclical, Para 90) “…some are mired in desperate and degrading
poverty, while others vain show off their supposed superiority.
We should be indignant at the enormous inequalities in our midst,
whereby we continue to tolerate some considering themselves more worthy
than others”.
If Francis is talking of race discrimination, why doesn’t he say so
explicitly?
The usual failure of nerve from a top religious leader who called
himself Vicar of Christ.

1. The encyclical tone and material still Eurocentric
It’s not just the women that are missing in his commentary but also
non-western voices.
It is a pity that Pope Francis did not break with tradition and share
authorship with a few respected leaders from

Africa, Asia and Latin America, at least in the End Notes.

His European leanings show in the very first paragraph in which he
quotes his beloved Francis of Assisi, a nature lover (13th century), and
he re-appears several times (in paras 10-12; 66, 87, 218). It is
understandable that Pope Francis, as Italian, is fond of Assisi and may
be other Europeans too but is it fair to thrust him on everybody else?
How insensitive can he be?
As head of the universal church, why didn’t he reach out to
knowledgeable African, Asian or indigenous persons for one of their
nature icons?
He also refers to two obscure early Euro saints: Foucault and Norcia
(para125,126). Who has heard of them? How

inspiring or relevant are they to non-Europeans?

2. Past Popes were grossly insensitive if not racist .
Many encyclicals have been written but none on the violence against the
non-Europeans and theft of their lands.
The popes seem barely aware of their sufferings. On 13 Jan 2003 (two
months before the Iraq invasion), John Paul II boasted:
“Europe is the bearer of the values which have borne fruit for two
thousand years in an "art" of thinking and living from which the whole
world has

benefited.” And what of the Euro art of bombing brown countries?

What did the earlier popes think of non-Europeans? Terms like
‘barbarous’, ‘savage’, ‘superstitious’ were routinely used.
Way back in 1493, the year after Columbus set his eyes on the Native
Americans, Pope Alexander VI (one of the most
dissolute of popes), issued a bull (edict) instructing Spain and
Portugal that “barbarous nations be invaded and brought
to the faith”. He is the pope who sired 10 children with different
women.

Could he possibly be a man of God and leader of the Church??

The so called Catholic Church is afflicted by grave problems, mostly
created by Europeans.

Let's quote from the NCR BLUEPRINT issue of 2002:
For some time now, many Catholics have

Dear Dinesh,

I have heard from you many times over the years by email, usually
promoting your books.

The most recent email was to announce a daily podcast.
All such activities would normally call for warm rejoicing & celebration
but sadly, in your case, your every new act recalls your bondage and
subservience to the very white Republican establishment. In your earlier
career, you must benefited from association with the Republicans. But
with the downfall of the Evangelical Trump, the Republicans may not be
worth cultivating. But, sadly for a brown man, you remain rightwing as
ever, that is, aligned with those with wealth & power because of the
crumbs you receive and, now with your podcast, you seem to be
determined to find fault with the Left at every turn. Pathetic, isn't
it?
But it may well be the terms of the funding you are receiving for the
podcast launch.

You seem to have forgotten your origins and moved to the extreme right
for career advance, never tiring of praising the white man & talking of
American
exceptionalism, heaping lavish praise on Fox News and slavishly
submitting to the neo-con agenda.
You hold the White power elites in high regard – you need them to
advance your career. You have to agree with whatever they say and write
in line with their
ideology. When you criticise, you target the poor, the defenceless, the
victims of white racism. The white settlers massacred the Native
Americans in hundreds

of thousands but of course you never refer to this issue at all.

Have you no original views of your own? Don’t you find any common
cause with people of colour at all?

You may recall that in 2013/14 you pleaded guilty last year to illegally
shelling out $20,000 in contributions in
the name of others for Republican Wendy Long’s failed 2012 bid to defeat
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
This led to Dinesh D’Souza having to perform a lot more community
service for breaking campaign-finance laws than he thought, with a
federal judge saying Monday that D’Souza
has to do eight hours each week for the entire five years he’s on
probation and not just the eight months he was confined to a halfway
house.

Defense attorney Ben Brafman clarified the sentence he handed down after
D’Souza pleaded guilty last year, which means D’Souza will have to do
over 1,600 hours more

service than he initially thought.
We’re talking about five years of eight hours a week? … This is a very
serious impediment to obtaining full-time employment because you miss
one day of work a
week,” Brafman said in the conference inside Berman’s robing room, as
D’Souza listened in silently via speakerphone. “In my mind it was never
contemplated
that the eight hours only applied to the period of home confinement,”
Berman said, later reading out a report from a psychologist who saw
D’Souza and then
ordering him to continue attending weekly sessions. The psychiatrist
wrote. “The client tends to deny problems and is arrogant and intolerant
of others’ feelings.”

So long as D’Souza stays on track with his community service, he will be
allowed to visit his daughter in London and his elderly mom in India
later this year (2014), Berman said.
PAMELA GELLER (President of the American Freedom Defense Initiative )
wrote on 15 Jul 2015
"What is being done to Dinesh D’Souza is an outrage, and all Americans
who love freedom should be protesting.
I am no D’Souza fan. Dinesh is being hounded and punished for something
that Democrats do every day – that’s the point.
The idea that Dinesh D’Souza would have to undergo psychological
examination for breaking the rules is a new Stalinist mode of American
politics."

Breitbart News reported in September 2014: “In addition to his five-year
probation sentencing and eight months of confinement in a community
confinement center,

Judge Berman ordered D’Souza to undergo ‘therapeutic counselling.’”
Dinesh said: I CAM E OUT OF CONFINEMENT RATHER SHAKEN. Some of my
idealistic assumptions about America have given way to being more alert
about America as it is.
Not that I'm less patriotic than I was before, but rather we as
Americans must always ask, "which America are we fighting for?"
This is not the America that the founders envisioned, and so, as a
consequence, we need to recognize our opposition

[Goanet] At Last a formula to rejuvenate SKIN & MUSCLE

2021-01-25 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Great News.
Scientists at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
(KAIST) have discovered a way to make skin cells “grow younger.” They
claim the original technique can be used to “reverse the ageing process
and prevent diseases related to ageing and prolong life span.” Speaking
to RT from KAIST University, Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho, the lead
scientist in the study, said seeing the revitalized skin in the
laboratory was “dramatic,” and added that the newly discovered technique
“applies not only to human skin but also to our whole body.” Professor
Cho described his newly developed technique as “opening the door for a
new generation that perceives ageing as a reversible biological
phenomenon.”

The results showed that the overall functionality of skin tissue was
regenerated, giving the skin a healthy amount of collagen and elastic
fibres, ridding the tissue of wrinkles. The promise of the technique
could see an end to the ravages of age like dryness, creases, loss of
elasticity and thinning skin.

[Goanet] OUR POPES: WHAT THEY THOUGHT OF BROWN AND BLACK PEOPLE

2021-01-03 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
The Popes are supposed to be men of God, compassionate and
understanding.
Instead, many were corrupt, kept mistresses, even a harem. Elections
were often rigged by bribery (simony).

One Pope (Benedict XI) was elected when he was just 11.

To get a feel for power, the Popes took on a number of titles like
‘Supreme Pontiff’, ‘Vicar of Christ’, ‘Successor of the Apostles’,
‘Primate of Italy’…

The worst acted more like ruthless politicians, making decisions on the
fate of distant peoples they had never seen.
POPE NICHOLAS V issued a bull (edict) around 1454 blatantly backing
conquest and dispossession – here is an extract:
“After careful deliberation, we have conceded to King Afonso (of
Portugal) the total and absolute right, to invade, conquer and subdue
all the countries under the
rule of the enemies of Christ, Muslim or pagan. We wish the said King ,
the Prince and their successors to occupy and possess exclusively the
said islands,

ports and seas…”
Here was the ‘Vicar of Christ’ openly sanctioning the subjugation of
non-Christian peoples by force and takeover of their lands.

The dissolute ALEXANDER VI (1492-1503) took it upon himself to
divide the New World between Spain and Portugal.
His bull of 1493 authorised “barbarous nations be invaded and brought to
the faith.”

This was the Pope who consorted with prostitutes and sired 10 children.

His successor, JULIUS II (1503-13) issued a bull granting the Spanish
Crown the right to collect all taxes in the Americas in perpetuity!

Between 1500 and 1660, 185,000 kg of gold and 16 million kg of silver
arrived in Spain.
The total European reserves quadrupled and contributed greatly to
Europe’s economic development. Reportedly
the dissolute ALEXANDER VI (1492-1503) used the first gold brought from
the Americas to decorate the ceiling of the Santa Maria Maggiore church.

LEO X (1513-21) was full of praise for Portugal’s conquests. He
presented a sword to King Manuel with the words:
“Receive this warlike sword in your victorious hands. With this, you
will wage under the most happy auspices…
May you use force and power against the fury of the infidels… and bring
back abundant spoils and triumphs.”

No question of rebuking the conquerors for theft.

Pope LEO XIII (1878-1903) wrote at a time when colonialism was in full
swing but he makes no mention of colonial atrocities.
Africans are described by LEO as “that wretched part of the human race”.
The teachings of Christ will “release it from the superstition and
misery

in which it has been mired for so long.” (Encyclical SA 1890, para 3).

Native Americans to LEO were barely human before the Europeans came.
It was the Europeans who raised them “from a state of blindness to the
common level of the human race, from savagery to gentleness and
humanity” (C4 1892, section 1).
These Native Americans are “a mighty multitude cloaked in miserable
darkness, given over to evil rites and the superstitious worship of vain
gods.
(They live) in a barbarous state and with savage manners; (and they)
lack the knowledge of the one true God.” (CA 1892, sect 4)

Hindus attract LEO's attention in NC 1893: here he lauds FRACIS XAVIER:
“he converted hundreds of thousands of Hindus from the myths and vile
superstitions of the Brahmans to the true religion...”

Writing to the American bishops (C4
1892), the Pope describes the exploits of COLUMBUS as
“this immortal achievement… the highest and grandest ever accomplished
by man…”

“The prestige of the Europe was marvellously increased…
Those countries hitherto uncultivated and inaccessible have made such
rapid strides in civilisation, wealth and fame…”

Not a word about the crimes of massacre and dispossession of the
natives.
The Europeans by the million were settling in the Americas after a
massive land grab.
LEO continues “The whole world is eager to celebrate the memory of the
event and glorify its
author.” Surely, he means the European world. Columbus is ours and the
propagation of the Catholic faith was his strongest motive for his
expedition …
(He had to) bear the sufferings (from) the adverse opinions of the
learned, fights with savages, criminal conspiracies…”.

In contrast to the Catholic Pope’s patently racist view, the US Council
of Churches on the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ trip condemned the
“discovery” as
“as invasion and colonization with legalized occupation, genocide,
economic exploitation, institutional racism and moral decadence.”
And called for “a year of repentance and reflection rather than
celebration.”

=
Shouldn't we ashamed of these Catholic Popes and disown them?

Re: [Goanet] "The absurdity of India can be total"

2021-02-02 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

Rajan, kudos to you for exposing Indian general shoddiness at work:
- outdated web design even in national institute or university websites,
broken links etc.

- chaotic state even at completed construction sites etc.

I am reminded of similar observations by VS Naipaul in his early
writings: An Area of Darkness (1964); A Wounded Civilisation (1977) and
India: A Million Mutinies Now (1990).
The following excerpts are taken from a long piece in Britain's Daily
Telegraph magazine (August 1967):
To see mysteriousness is to excuse the intellectual failure. The poverty
of the Indian land also extends to the Indian mind. The simplicity of
India disappoints and in the end fatigues. India lies all on the
surface.
[On Hindu beliefs] The holy cow is absurd, an ignorant corruption of an
ancient Aryan practice. The caste marks and the turbans belong to a
people who, incapable of contemplating man as man, know no other way to
define themselves. Even I could anticipate much of what was said at the
meeting. Where here is no play of the intellect, there is no surprise.
While the West is many-featured, India possesses only mystery. In March
1962, the glossy Indian Hotelkeeper & Traveller produced a series “Seers
of India”:
“India’s seers and sages have something to offer to the
world. Th the spiritually rudderless foreigners, India’s saints and
sadhus provide irresistible magnets of attraction. India, steeped in
spirituality, ha singularly unique facet to project to the world…”
The absurdity of India can be total. It appears to ridicule analysis.
The onlooker is taken beyond anger and despair.

[Naipaul's stay in in the North]
Poverty could not explain the worn carpets of the 5-star Ashoka Hotel,
the grimy armchairs in the lounge, the long-handled broom left there by
the menial in khaki... Poverty did not explain the dirt in the
first-class railway carriages, the absence of trees, even near the
resort of Naini Tal.
Poverty did not explain the open stinking sewers of the new middle class
Lake Gardens suburb in Calcutta...It spoke of a more general collapse of
sensibility. People had grown barbarous, indifferent and
self-wounding... Here is a nation ceaselessly exchanging banalities with
itself; regeneration is believed to come not from being receptive to
thought but through magic. In a time of famine, hundreds of gallons of
milk were poured over a deity while an Air Force helicopter dropped
flowers.

[A country held together by no intellectual current]
India is profoundly dependent on others, both for questions and answers.
There is no true aristocracy, no element that preserves the graces of a
country... The state is withering away for lack of ideas. Every
discipline, skill and proclaimed ideal of the modern Indian state is a
copy of something known to exist elsewhere. Indians, including the holy
men, have continually to look outside for approval. Local judgment has
no value. Without the foreign chit, Indians can have no confirmation of
their own reality.

[Post election headlines]:
We must be educated to make democracy a success; Past mistakes are
responsible for current problems.
Here was a nation exchanging banalities with itself: it was the
impression Indians frequently gave when they attempted analysis. They
were either expressing the old world of myth and magic or interpreting
the new in terms of the old. The concrete eluded them.

[Ideas all borrowed]
India is profoundly dependent. She depends on others now both for
questions and answers. Here’s a country held together by no intellectual
current. There is no true Indian aristocracy, no element that preserves
the graces of a country… There have been parasitic landowners,
tax-farmers. The rulers represented a brute authority. The aptly named
‘native princes’ have disappeared and nothing marks their passing. Every
Indian, prince or peasant, is a villager. All are separate and, in the
decay of sensibility, equal. Each trade (except entertainment) is
borrowed. Every discipline, skill and proclaimed ideal of the modern
Indian state is known to exist in its true form somewhere else. Cabinet
government looks to Westminster. Indians had borrowed words like
"democracy" and "science" from the West, without knowing what they
meant. The journals of protest look, even for their typography, to the
New Statesman, Indians, holy men included, have continually to look
outside for approval. Local judgment has not value. Without the foreign
chit, Indian s have no confirmation of their own identity.

[Goanet] INDIAN CONSTITUTION

2021-02-02 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
John Eric Gomes had earlier listed several functions of a nation State
but he seems to be talking of some ideal State, hardly the Indian State.

For example, he claimed that India is not a Banana republic. True?
One dictionary defines this "as one of the smaller tropical countries
whose economies mostly depends on fruit exports, tourism, and foreign
investors."

So John is right to say that India is not a banana republic.

THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION
John Eric next labels India a 'constitutional democracy'. These two
words, quite alien to Hindi, are among several that characterise a
western State.
Indian languages simply lack modern conceptual categories (like history,
sociology, philosophy, etc) and the few Indians like Ambedkar or Nehru
who visited England lost no time in expanding their English vocabulary
and learning European concepts.
The Constituent Assembly consisting of a team made up of Ambedkar & some
others were given the task of drafting a Constitution for India in time
for independence.
How could a team of Indians who had no experience of governance draft a
Constitution?
Ambedkar's team did the next best thing. They latched onto the British
India Government Act (1935) as a template. It is a lengthy and detailed
document with 321 sections and 10 schedules. Many key features of the
constitution are directly taken from this Act.
The team was heavily influenced by the British model of Parliamentary
Democracy.
Next the team examined other Constitutions - the USA, Canada, Australia,
Ireland and Germany - and selected certain Principles. It was soon
accepted that Indian languages were
too primitive in their vocabulary and usage and it was decided to draft
the Constitution in English, the language of the colonial masters. The
task fell on the few Indian elites

who had been educated in England.
The Constitution was adopted by the India Constituent Assembly on 26
November 1949 and came into effect on 26 January 1950.

The Indian Constitution is a curious document which few Indians have
read or can understand.
Literacy in 1947 was just 12%, so here was a seminal document circulated
that most Indians could not understand.

There are phrases and constructs like
'solemnly resolved', 'sovereign democratic republic', 'secure justice,
social, economic and political;
liberty of thought, expression, faith and worship'; 'equality of status
and opportunity';
'promote fraternity, dignity of the individual and integrity of the
nation'.

Indian languages simply do not use concepts like these.
So the Constitution is basically an alien document which the 'Fathers of
the Nation' felt was needed to define the new nation.
The Fathers of the Nation had found they couldn’t get far with the
British rulers without learning English and western modes of thinking.
Their own land might be rich in myth and ritual but offered little
intellectual stimulus and

their languages could not match English in depth, range and nuance.

The Constitution was in effect an imposition of an alien thought
stream on a largely peasant population.
Amendments: In 1976 during that darkest hour of Indian democracy — Mrs
Gandhi's Emergency, the 42nd Amendment was made, slipping in the words
“secular”

and “socialist” into the Preamble.
The inclusion of these words had been rejected by Dr Ambedkar, the main
architect of the Constitution.

Since the coming of the BJP to power in 2014 the pretence of being
‘secular’ has been thrown overboard. Those running the country have
openly declared their intention to
convert this country into a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ making Muslims, Christians,
Jains, Buddhists indeed every religious minority into second-class
citizens.
The Indian parliament has become the rubber stamp of the rich and
powerful but under the BJP/NDA regime even the farce of parliamentary
approval has been dropped.

email)

Re: [Goanet] Is education required for political office in Hindustan?

2021-06-15 Thread BT Yahoo Mail

George,
Look at India's top rulers - Modi, Shah and Yogi - uneducated,
intellectually bankrupt and operating from the Vedic Age.
That's what Hindu Rashtra is all about: gods galore, cows, caste,
sadhus, temples.
And the Big Three take pride in their ignorance and superstitions. We
need to conclude with the obligatory Jai Hind, Jai Shri Ram.

Subject: [Goanet] Minimum education requirements for political office
If minimum education requirements are required to run for public office,
they should be done away with. If education was so valuable, how did it
produce the current political situation which is almost entirely a
criminal enterprise. Better to have 4th Standard-fail students running
for political office - how much worse can it get.
