Liuda, that’s fine! use what you want, however I’m not dealing with them, as

therefore, I use Hitman pro, it does the same thing as SuperAntiSpyware! not
only that, it’s accessible with jaws! I think I’ve created a monster by asking

Mike B, I downloaded and ran ADWCleaner, just for the hell of it, and the
website is a long website, so there’s no way I’d be able to type it in, and the
nice thing about it is, that it doesn’t install as a regular program! another
words, you don’t half to uninstall it under the control panel, you do it right
from the executable. I tried it on my windows 7 machine, whitch is my laptop,
and it works perfect. And it didn’t find any threats whatsoever. Thanks for the

compatible with windows 8, and I told them, that it wasn’t, because back in the

Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] iTunes

2015-02-05 Thread Bob Boyd
I am using Jaws 14 and Windows 7, 64 bit and am having the accessibility
problems with podcasts just reading button rather than describing the
level and podcast information in the prior version. Changing the level to
and from the podcast heading to individual podcasts (level 1) is also no
longer working with the left and right arrow keys. When hearing button if
you hit the F6 key it will read the podcast description. Shift F6 will get
you back to the button list where you can up or down arrow, then use F6
again to see where you are. Tedious process at best to navigate but better
than nothing.

I called Apple last night and they shared that there is no way to revert to
the prior version of iTunes.

I have emailed accessibil...@apple.com about the problem, as someone kindly
suggested and provided the link. Thank you. We'll see what feedback is
received.

Pending a fix by Apple, if someone could please confirm:
1) Using a prior Restore point to the Release 12 update of iTunes will NOT
get one back to the more accessible version. Did I get that right Mike?
2) Blind tunes, which I have not tried, will have the same problems as
shared above since it is Jaws scripts based on the resident version of
iTunes on my PC

Is there another recommended accessible podcast manager

Thanks,

Bob Boyd

Good morning-

First, The contacts are in a folder which you can navigate to by pressing
Control+3

Your Address book you can reach by pressing Control+shift+B

They are one in the same and work in tandem.

You can navigate to your Contacts, and Select All (Control+A) and paste them
in to a document or you can Export them to either a Personal folder (PST) or
a Comma separated value document (Microsoft Excel) document only.

From the Comma Separated values (Microsoft Excel) you can export to
Microsoft Word.

Hope that all helps.

If you open the File Menu from the Menu Bar, (Alt+f) and arrow up to

The default item you land on is Genral, arrow down once to Mail and tab

Composing a new email, you can type in the beginning of an address and it

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws not reading the close window icon

Hi Jason,

Here is a tutorial that explains using the Windows Classic theme Windows
Basic theme for Windows7:

While helping Barb learn a bit more about the icons at the top right hand
corner of most application Windows (Minimize Restore Close), another issue
came up. Gene stated he did not have any such icons at the top right hand
corner of his windows. I asked Gene if he had ever changed the desktop theme
on his Windows7 computer. He stated he had not.

I now feel pretty confident I have solved the mystery of the missing icons.
(Smile).

For any new Windows7 computer users, I strongly, strongly suggest you
consider changing your desktop theme from the default to the Windows
Classic. By making this change, application windows will begin to feel very
much like the older Windows XP windows. I have made this modification as
well as other seasoned Windows7 users problem free. No need to worry as this
change is not permanent, and you can return back to the Windows7 theme if
you feel compelled to do so. When testing my theory I went from Windows
Classic, to the default Windows 7 desktop theme, and back to the desktop
classic theme hassle free.

To determine if you are using the Windows 7 theme simply launch Notepad and
Wordpad. Use the Jaws hotkey to read the top of the window (Insert + Numpad
1 (End key). If you do not hear Minimize, Restore, Close or any variation
of, it is very likely you too are using the
Windows7 Desktop theme.

I have typed up the following information to give you and idea of how the
Windows Classic desktop theme can be of some benefit to you.

The new Windows7 theme is a combination of pictures, colors, and sounds on
your computer. It includes a desktop background, a screen saver, a window
border color, and a sound scheme. Some Windows7 customized themes can
include their own desktop icons and mouse pointers. A drawback of these
themes to vision impaired and blind computer users is that these visually
stimulating themes take up resources and do not add the same benefits as
they would to sighted Windows7 users. The following tutorial will help you
make changes that allow for Windows7 to take on the appearance and sounds of
the familiar Windows XP classic theme. As an added benefit, these changes
will also take the desktop out of the Alt + Tab sequence. We will need to go
to the Personalization Dialogue box to make our change from the default
Windows7 theme to the classic Windows theme.

A little warning is in order. The tutorial below may make changes to your
current Windows sound scheme. If you would like to continue using your
current sound scheme with all its familiar sounds, make sure to save it or
at the very least make a note of its name so you can restore it after the
modifications below are made. Here's how to identify your current sound
scheme and how to restore it in the event of any mishaps.

*Identifying Your Current Sound Scheme
1. Go to the Start menu search box and enter the following: Change system
sounds.
2. You will land on the sound scheme you are currently using. Make a note of
this particular sound scheme.

*Restoring a Sound Scheme
1. If your sound scheme is changed by the steps in the tutorial below, go to
the Start menu search box and enter the following: Change system sounds.
2. You will land on a combo box consisting of all of the sound schemes on
your computer.
3. Arrow up or down to select your previous sound scheme.
4. This step is very important. Press Shift + Tab twice or until you get to
Apply and hit enter.
5. Press Shift + tab to Ok and hit enter.
6. Go back and repeat steps 1 and 2 to verify your sound scheme is indeed
the currently running sound scheme.

*To Configure the Windows Classic Theme

1. Press the windows key to open the Start menu search box, type the
following words and hit enter: Change the theme. Note: you can also simply
type the word Theme.
2. You will land directly on the Personalization dialogue box's Theme
Gallery.
3. Press down arrow until you get to an item called Windows7 Basic.
Right arrow to Windows Classic. Hit the enter key to execute the desired
change.
4. Wait a few seconds or until you hear an audio sound effect confirming the
completion of this process. I would wait another 2 minutes or so as your
computer is making lots of changes and you want to allow lots of time for
the process to complete.
5. To confirm the changes have been made correctly repeat steps 1 and 2.
When you land on the Theme Gallery make sure it is indeed set to Windows
Classic.
6. Press alt F4 to close

Re: [JAWS-Users] having trouble using Jaws to change folder to look in so as to attach a file

2015-01-09 Thread Bob Boyd
Sounds like you need to switch folders to a higher level to find your Resume
file, which can be done from the Tree view. I am not sure which version of
Windows you have, but in Windows 7, from the Attach File window, you are
first left in the file name field. Hitting Shift tab twice puts you into
the list of files in your last used directory. I believe this is your
Pictures folder. Hitting Shift tab twice more should have you hearing
Tree. From the Tree view you can up or down arrow, or use the first
letter of the desired foler. JAWS should also announce the level of the
folder. The default folder name is typically documents when you are
saving from most programs, but could easily have been modified along the
way. Hope this helps. I have never used Windows 8 so am not sure if the
tab structure is different in that version.

Hello, everyone.

I am experiencing a problem with Outlook 2010, that I can't seem to resolve.

If I am writing an e-mail, and find the need to leave my computer before
sending the message, I often like to save my message in the drafts folder.
My usual way of doing this is to hit the escape key, at which time I will be
asked whether I want the message to be saved. Of course, I respond by
answering yes, thinking that all should be well. However, after I do
this, I look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is
not there. I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under
my expanded outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my
drafts folder on the g-mail web site, under my personal g-mail account, and
it was not there either. I have also checked my deleted items, junk,
outbox, and saved folders, but no message appears there either.

What makes this especially annoying is that I did not have this problem a
month or so ago.

I'm wondering if something has been updated in Windows so as to make this
saving function less easy to perform?

That paragraph should work the same as in the XP and 2003 version.

I am having issues posting to the Jaws list, apparently it may not like HTML
posts. I previously posted this, but it may not have gone through. So, I
modified the subject line so as not to hijack the thread.

I use a different piece of software than Malware Bytes which is much more
effective. It as AdwCleaner and it is totally accessible with Jaws, as well
as with other screen readers. I do some tech support, and it cleaned up a
client's computer that was seriously infected with spyware including browser
hijacks. My wife also tried it on her computer that seemed to freeze
occasionally, and it resolved those issues.

This is one of the recommended programs for attacking some forms of spyware
and malware on BleepingComputer.com.

Here is my brief tutorial on its usage:

I thought I'd submit a post about an outstanding malware removal program
that is extremely accessible. It is called Adwcleaner. I used version
4.106.

I tried it about ten days ago on my computer and found a couple things. My
wife had an issue with her computer freezing when doing downloads, and she
used this program this morning and it corrected the issue.

I have a client who had issues with several pieces of spyware such as global
updater, groovorio, roboot, and many more that could not be nuked with
MalwareBytes or a couple different anti-virus programs. This person had
over sixty browser helper objects in Firefox, and these same programs that
ran in Internet Explorer were listed in various places in the registry,
under program folders and scheduled tasks. It identified over 155 different
registry keys, and over thirty folders with malware.

Adwcleaner opens with a simple screen layout. Under the actions menu, you
first hit the Scan button. It will take a few minutes to scan.

On the results screen, there are several tabs. These are tabs for each
browser (firefox, Internet explorer, google chrome if you have it), plus
tabs for files, folders, registry, scheduled tasks etc. Under each tab, you
can tab into the list of items it has identified. If you don't want to
clean an item, just uncheck it as you arrow down through the culprits.

Once you've reviewed everything, go back to the actions area and hit the
Clean button. It will warn you to make sure you've saved data from your
other applications as it will close all programs.

When it says it will close all programs--believe it! It means it! It
closes everything, including your screen-reader.
Suggestion: Make sure you have a shortcut installed so you can bring your
screen reader back up about ten seconds after it closes.

When you bring your screen reader up again, it will tell you it needs to
reboot to finish the process.

When it reboots, you will be in a notepad log file showing what it was able
to remove. The log file will also be saved, along with the quarantine
folder, under your root directory.

You can download AdwCleaner at

https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/

Tom,

Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters
in the subject line of a test email, like XX - whatever is
unique. Then do your usual ctrl S or your preferred save to draft
method. Then do a search using the alt key to bring up the Windows 7 Search
box, then enter the unique subject line test message string. Perhaps the
search will disclose the location of your saved messages and solve the
mystery of the missing (or AWOL) draft folder. Good luck!

I just tried your approach by hitting Alt F4 to exit outlook. It asked me
if I wanted to save my message, just as it did when I used the escape key
normally, to which I responded Yes.

Unfortunately, even with this approach, my message was not saved. I could
not find it in either my local or g-mail draft, junk, saved, or spam
folders.

I simply can't imagine where these messages are going, especially since I
told Outlook to save them in the drafts folder.

On your second note, I, like you, find it easier to find relevant folders in
Outlook by simply shift-tabbing to my folder list and accessing my desired
folder either via the arrow keys or by first-letter navigation.

Thanks for your helpful suggestions, though. I'll keep plugging away at
things here. Hopefully others will have additional things for me to try.

I'm also going to try to get some sighted assistance here to help determine
what might be going on.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question

I posted this quiry several days ago on the other Jaws list

j...@lists.the-jdh.com

and although I have gotten several suggestions, none have worked thus far.

One other note: I have tried the control S key command as a way to save the
message. However no saving options appear when using this key command.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

P.S. I hope this quiry is not considered to be off topic for this list.
I am a new member, and don't want to wear out my welcome right from the
start.

You will need to add the location the installation file is and the freedom

Hello list,

This is something that I’ve been dealing with for a while now, but hadn’t
gotten around to asking about it before.

When I’m in a browser, I sometimes find myself stuck between the address bar
and my favorites bar in IE for example. All the tabbing back and forth
doesn’t help to get me out of it and I eventually have to close the browser
all together and relaunch to have access to the actual web content. This
happens too where if I press the alt+n command to access the information
bar. Again, in IE. I am using Jaws 15, but this also happened in earlier
versions of Jaws. I haven’t’ had too much opportunity to play with the new
JFW 16 beta so I don’t know if this is something that is less of an issue
with the new release.

Does anyone else have to deal with this and if so, do they know how to
either fix it or at least make it so that they can get back to the webpage?

Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Avast!

2014-07-22 Thread Bob Edenhofer
Another great antivirus program, that I use is, avast! once you install it, you
half to register the free version, and you’re good for 12 months, then you half
to reregister with your name and email address and tab to the button that says
register with email address, and the nice thing about avast 9.0 is, it doesn’t
slow down your machine, not only that, it automaticly scans your machine in the
background, and you don’t half to do nothing, just install it and leave it
alone. And you can uninstall it with out going into safe mode.

The Focus14 Blue will be able to use Power123, due out any day now, which
Jonathan Mosen spoke about in the latest (May 2014) FSCast. it will thus be
enabled to operate on the computer and iPhone at the same time, i.e.,
without having to be unplugged from the PC's USB port. (I think you press
the on/off button on the side on the display to toggle whether you want the
Bluetooth operation or the USB operation when you want to change between
devices.) It has Advance bars, router row of buttons, WhizWheels, panning
buttons, shift and selector buttons, and of course the six-dot or the
eight-dot Braille entry keyboard for use with both JAWS and iOS. . it works
seamlessly with both.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSE Now Flagging My PC Status As At Risk

2014-04-09 Thread Bob
Your system is at risk. Maybe not a great deal now but it will be more
and more so as time goes on.

My favourite analogy:
Think of XP as a an old ship and your anti virus as the bilge pump.
You can keep upgrading the pump to remove the water coming in but if you
dont upgrade the hull then the holes will just keep getting bigger.

On 08/04/2014 13:53, Gerald Levy wrote:

A few days ago, I posted that the Microsoft Security Essentials icon in the System Tray of my XP PC was reporting its status as potentially unprotected. This morning, after I booted up and checked the System Tray, the MSE icon is now reporting my PC status as At Risk. Here is the message that is displayed on the MSE Home tab:

PC status: At risk
Support for this operating system has ended, which means Microsoft Security
Essentials is no longer supported and your PC is at risk. To make
sure your PC stays
protected, click the link below to see our end-of-support guidance for
operating systems.

While it is true that support for XP itself has ended, the XP version of MSE continues to function.
I successfully updated the database definitions manually and ran a quick scan to verify this. So
if MSE is still working, then my PC is not really At Risk, as the System Tray icon
reports, and I can only conclude that this is nothing less than shameless scare mongering on the
part of MS. Contrary to the message above, reliable sources claim that support for MSE will
continue through July, 2015. So what is really going on? Are any other MSE users who are still
running XP also getting the At Risk icon in their System Tray?

Hi Becky.
I've been using tapin radio for years and love it.

However, you are right about there being no documentation available.

I think I saw somewhere that the creator is visually impaired, though you'd
think this would encourage him to provide better documentation.

In my settings there is a setting for dark mode [gag] that I think will,
in some way, make it work better with a screen reader.

You can press f1, and get a quick listing of shortcut keys; but you'd better
pay attention because it reads them out in one big list.

When tapin comes up you are in an edit box. Type something in it, say 80s
rock and tab to the search button and press enter. You are presented with a
list of stations that have 80s rock in their description somewhere. Hit
enter on one of them and you'll be rocking the night away.

There's a lot more to it than that. So, if you are interested, send me a
private message at rwile...@satx.rr.com and I'll see if I can help.

Thanks.

free
alternative to AVG and Avast, but how compatible is it with JAWS? And how
easy is it to remove if it doesn't work out?

  Subject: [JAWS-Users] Qihoo Antivirus

   Hello,

Since I realized that Microsoft Security Essential is not good I tried
several free and not free antivirus and security programs.

Today I found Qihoo 360 Internet Security, a free program. It has very
good reviews, and as much as I can tell it is a JAWS accessible.

Does anybody here have any experience and knowledge concerning Qihoo 360

   Thank you!

P.S. I found out about the software in the following site:

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 15 takes about two minutes to say... jaws for windows is ready.

2014-01-22 Thread Bob

Jaws sits in the queue of programs waiting to start with your pc.
Try thinning out the number of programs that start up, only allow those
that you use every day to start with the PC.

Run a malware scan as suggested.
If you use MS security essentials then uninstall and reinstall it.

Do you have any network drives mapped? Windows may be trying to
reconnect to these before continuing to start applications?

There are lots of reasons and the individual application is rarely the
cause.

If the talking installer isn’t talking then this points to some more
fundamental issue with the laptop.
Have you checked to see if Narrator talks?
I have seen issues before where certain sound drivers disturb the speech in
both narrator and eloquence.
Go to device manager and uninstall your sound card, reboot your machine and
then try uninstalling and installing jaws again.

My friend had given me this HP G-72 laptop and it must be the way HP installed
Windows 7 because I can't even find C:\documents and settings not even the all
users documents and settings and I now see why several don't choose HP but go
with either Dell or something else, I also heard that HP doesn't come to you to
service where Dell does, and I don't like how HP partitioned Windows 7 at
all...which is why I can't wait until rehab buys me a Dell laptop so I can put
JAWS on there and not have this problem because it will be a fresh install of
Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine. If I had a Windows 7 disk to do the fresh
install, I'd do it myself with sighted assistance, unless this new talking
installation of Windows installation I just heard about from Top Tech Tidbits
would help, but in that case I'd still have to have the Windows 7 Home Premium
64-bit installer disks and that might as well be expensive...so, JAWS has come
to a stalemate with me, and I don't think the FS team will be able to help me,
but I guess it will be worth the call on Monday...and if nothing changes then,
I'm just going to have to use NVDA until I get my computer Rehab will purchase
for me.
Well, I'm going to try to get some sleep. Seems like I keep spinnin'
right round with this issue, the circle of life as it may be.

I'm really confused. This is the second time this has happened to me since I
got my new computer last December. I keep up to date on paying for jaws and
Magic upgrades although I don't always choose to update the programs.
Example: I've received CD's for upgrading Jaws and magic in the past few
days but have decided not to do so at present. This morning, both Jaws and
Magic informed me that I was using temporary versions of the programs and
had to re-authorize them or they would run out within a short time. Luckily,
each provided the authorization number and I could easily re-authorize them
without difficulty. If I'd had a problem, I'd have had to wait until
tomorrow when FS is open. I'm wondering if this happens to other people and
if anyone can explain why it happens. It's really inconvenient, particularly
for someone like me whose technical capabilities are so limited. Is it some
kind of FS policy or just a gliche?

Hope someone can give me some suggestions and quick. My credit union just

Not sure what they did but some links on the site now work and some don't
with JAWS. If JAWS says link I have always just hit enter to access it and
go their. Several links on that site now do not work that way. I know the
link is active as my wife can click on it with the mouse and it is fine.
What I don't understand is why JAWS works well with some links on that page
and simply ignores others. I have tried using the links list and simply
arrowing down the page and clicking on them. I tried the JAWS key and z to
no avail. Any other suggestions how I can get jaws to activate those links.

 hello.
My question to webvisum users: What percent of the time does Webvisum
give you wrong captcha solution text?

I've only recently started using both zcaptcha with IE9 and Webvisum
with Firefox to get captcha solutions send back to me as readable
text. Well zcaptcha has been 100% accurate which is critical for the
web page to actually accept my capcha entry allowing me to move on to
whatever I'm purchasing. I've used Webvisum twice on the same web page
and both times it solved it wrong. the first time it put the solution
text in the clipboard and I pasted it in the edit field on the web
page, I got an error msg saying it was wrong. Well I tried it a second
time on the web page in front of me with the captcha image and the
 result
was wrong again.
Both times Webvisum's solution text was wrong. Well then I used
zcaptcha on the same web page and got the right solution text within
5min allowing me to successfully finish what I was purchasing on the web.

So my question to webvisum users: What percent of the time does

Solona has been defunct for more than two years. Recently, a new service
similar to Solona was launched. Like Solona, this new service, called
ZCaptia, relies on sighted human operators to solve image captchas. But
unlike Solona, ZCaptia is a paid service. You have to set up an account
with a minimum of $5 using Paypal. You are then charged 18 cents for each
captcha you submit for decoding. The only advantage of this new service is
that it works with all web browsers, including IE, and of course, it works
with all recent versions of JAWS. The disadvantage, aside from the cost, is
that it can take up to 15 minutes or longer to receive the decoded result on
your clipboard. By then, the captcha could have changed, as many dynamic
captchas do. And apparently, not many blind computer users have registered
for ZCaptcha yet, because there has not been much feedback about it on this
and other blind-tech related lists. So your best bet for solving captchas
without sighted assistance is still Firefox with Webvisum. But if you're
interested in ZCaptcha, click on the link below for more information:

account with a minimum of $5 using Paypal. You are then charged 18
cents for each captcha you submit for decoding. The only advantage of
this new service is that it works with all web browsers, including IE,
and of course, it works with all recent versions of JAWS. The
disadvantage, aside from the cost, is that it can take up to 15
minutes or longer to receive the decoded result on your clipboard. By
then, the captcha could have changed, as many dynamic captchas do.
And apparently, not many blind computer users have registered for
ZCaptcha yet, because there has not been much feedback about it on
this and other blind-tech related lists. So your best bet for solving
captchas without sighted assistance is still Firefox with Webvisum.
But if you're interested in ZCaptcha, click on the link below for more
 information:

There is another program for solving captchas? The only two I know of

 hello.
My question to webvisum users: What percent of the time does
Webvisum give you wrong captcha solution text?

I've only recently started using both zcaptcha with IE9 and Webvisum
with Firefox to get captcha solutions send back to me as readable

web page to actually accept my capcha entry allowing me to move on

Dan

That is a cleaner way of doing it.
Create your own jss file with the customisations you want then use the
jsb in the default script file.
You will still need to call the functions in your new file from a script
in the default file but it means that recreating the customisations in a
different jaws version is much easier.

Not sure if I need to start one from scratch, or just what I need to

Re: [JAWS-Users] information about adding to default script files

2012-04-27 Thread Bob

David

Be careful that you do not save that file back to the same location.
The safest thing to do is open the script manager then press
control+shift+d to open the default script file.

When you save and compile it will save to your user setting folder and
leave the all user default file untouched.

This way if you break something that you cannot put right you only have
to delete the default files from your user settings folder and you will
have full functionality returned.

Overwrite the all users file by mistake and break something then you are
reinstalling jaws to get it back.

Subject: Here is the information I promised about adding to default script files

Hi David,

In the event you are just adding to your defaults rather than modifying our
scripts, this could be helpful avoiding problems in the future.

Regards,

Eric

Safely Adding Default Scripts

Starting with JAWS 12, the default script file makes use of MyExtensions.jsb.
MyExtensions.jss includes standard headers, but contains only a couple of stub
functions for source code. The purpose of the MyExtensions scripts is to
include in the JAWS distribution a script source file that will never contain
any Freedom Scientific source code, thus allowing the end user to safely add
new custom scripts without the need to make any changes due to a JAWS update.
For this reason, new scripts and functions added to MyExtensions and placed in
the user settings folder is a safe way to add custom scripts to JAWS.

You should be aware, however, that MyExtensions should not be used to overwrite
existing scripts or functions. Default scripts and functions do not call down
to MyExtensions, so any scripts or functions in MyExtensions that have the same
name as those in default or application scripts will never run. Scripts or
functions with unique names will run, which is why you can use MyExtensions for
added scripts and functions.

Because JAWS key map (JKM) files are layered, you can also assign key mappings
to your added MyExtensions scripts in default.jkm in your user settings. You
can use Keyboard Manager to locate your scripts in MyExtensions by looking
under Default scripts and assign keys to your custom scripts.

By adding your custom scripts to MyExtensions, and assigning keys in default,
you can safely extend JAWS scripts to include your own custom scripts. If you
have developed a library of custom functions in a JSB file, you can add it to
MyExtensions through the Use statement and it will now be available to you.

Just remember to use unique names for scripts or functions added through
MyExtensions, and save your modified MyExtensions source and compiled files to
your user settings, and you should be able to enjoy your own custom scripts
added to JAWS without having to make changes due to JAWS updates. You can also
copy your MyExtensions files to new versions of JAWS. Depending on the extent
of your script coding, you may want to ensure that your scripts are up-to-date
with the latest script innovations, but you won't need to modify your scripts
simply because JAWS updated.

Unfortunately not without using jaws 13 and using ocr on every page.

The fact that screenreaders are unable to access the text of the book is
the reason amazon released their own accessible version.
If a screen reader could access the text it would be very easy for

You really ought to explain your reasoning.
Since just about 99% of torrents are for the purpose of sharing copyrighted
material, please explain how downloading is legal while selling is not. Do
this in terms of international copyright law and the DMCA.

Maybe if you read those laws before you explain, you won't be some full of

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 13 Excel 2010

2011-10-28 Thread Bob

Jaws 13 the keystrokes for these have changed.
To read the leftmost cell in the row you need to press Insert+Space then
T then Control + 1
you can change the 1 to numbers 2, 3 or 4 to read the second, third and
forth cells in a row.

Similarly with the column headers instead of alt + 1 you now need to use
Insert + Space then T then Alt + 1

As above you can swap the number to 2, 3 or 4 for different cells.

The dom is the page structure underneath the web page that determins how
it is viewed. It normally mirrors your source code but can be updated by
javascript and other languages.

I dont think you can view it in ie without some form of developer add
in, I use chrome and magnification to inspect page elements!

 Hi all:
 Just wondering,
 I'm using IE8 on a windows 64 bit machine running Win7 and JFW 12.
Lately I've been coding a site which I've been programing completely
 on
html 4.01 and javascript.
It works well for sighted users, and runs smoothly with NVDA and
 Voice
Over,
but for some reason whenever I go to it with IE and JFW 12.58 all it
 says
is blank, blank, blank as I try to move, and it won't allow me to bring up
links or anything.

Is this an IE issue or a JFW issue?

Is it something to do with the software or the way I'm coding my
 sight
that won't allow it to run with JFW?
As far as I know my website stands within W3C standards so I don't
 know
what could be wrong?

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Major JFW 12 problems with Firefox

Hello list,

I have been having all sorts of trouble with Firefox and the latest
Jaws 12
release. In particular the Google Reader page. I wanted to share
what I'm
experiencing and see if it may just be an issue with my machine or
if others

are dealing with the same problems.

I have Google Reader as one of my homepages and when I launch
Firefox, Jaws
always behaves as though the virtual cursor is turned off. In fact,
Jaws
will say Application Mode On. In order to get Jaws to work
properly, I
have to do an insert+z keystroke command and then Jaws will say
Application
Mode off. I'll then be able to go around the page with no problems.
This
particular issue only started when upgrading the Firefox 4.0 and is
still
present with the latest Firefox 4.0.1 update. If while in Firefox
and I go
back to my Google Reader page, either by clicking on the Reader link
from
another Google site or through my saved bookmark at least 70% of the
time,

the Application Mode On issue comes up.

I have noticed a marked increase of instances of Mozilla crashing
with this
latest Jaws release as well. Again, it happns most often while on
the Google
Reader page and while in Firefox in general. Either when I go to the
Google
Reader page, close a link that I had opened from Google Reader or
simply by
just having the page open or refreshing the page with the
insert+escape key
command. Upwards of 10 times a day. It would happen every now and
then with

the earlier versions of Jaws 12, but it has become a constant with the
latest JFW rlease. I at first thought it was an issue with Firefox or
perhaps a rogue add-on, but I have tried disabling add-ons and
plug-ins and
Firefox was still crashing left and right. When I use an older
version of

Jaws (11.0)

however, Firefox not only never crashes, but the over all
responsiveness of
the browser and JFW feel over all snappier and better. With JFW 12,
using
the browser had become painfully slow either through regular
navigating from
page to page as well as when trying to refresh a page. Seconds would
go by
before Jaws would be able to speak. Not to mention the crashing
problem.

Jaws would outright crash much more frequently too.

I don't experience the browser crashing issue in IE8, but the over
all
sluggishness with JFW 12 is present along with using other
applications. I
at first thought that I had been infected with a virus or other
malware, but
with the older version of 11.0, my computer is much, much more
responsive.

I do however experience the Application Mode On issue with JFW
11.0 as

well. So maybe it's a Firefox 4.0 thing in regards to this.

There are a couple of other problems, but the ones above are what are
giving me the most problems. Is anyone else experiencing any of these
problems or have any ideas on what may be causing it?

Like I said, when using JFW 11.0, a lot of what I mentioned above
doesn't
happen. All my antivirus and malware stuff is up to date. I was
going to
shoot an email off to Freedom Scientific, but wanted to get feedback
from

other Jaws users as well. This is the first time a new Jaws release has
given me this much trouble since I don't know when and want to be
sure it's

perhaps not something on my end.

  Thanks,

  Cristobal

You would have to use the jaws scripting language.
Automating this using any other type of program wont have access to the

Hi all,
I am looking for a computer programming language or some type of code so I
might be able to automate repeated commands I use to research on the web.
For example,
I open a specific web site, go to edit box and type in my desired search,
enter, type for t for table, press f8 to copy table, control c to copy, open
notepad and control v to paste.
This is just a very simple example but I don't know what computer language
might be appropriate. If anyone knows another list that might assist me I
would appreciate the subscription link.
Thanks,
Ann

Re: [JAWS-Users] can we disable jaws menus

Prashant

I am afraid that you will struggle to achieve this.

The only way I can think would be to create scripts that steal away all
the keystrokes that access the managers and the menus in the jaws window.

Not sure you can pinch the alt key on its own though or control + space.

You may be in a losing battle there!

There is a file in the shared script folder called ConfigNames.something in
there you can assign various script files to different programs.
However the chances of this providing any level of success is slim and using
office scripts as a start point for works scripts is probably going to cause
you more complications that starting from scratch.

HI

Recently I have been looking at Microsoft Works. I used to use Word 2003
and if I am not wrong the wordprocessor here in Works is very much the same,
any ideas?

I am currently woriking with the Works database and having some success.

My question is can scripts for say Access could be assigned to the works
database program or say excel scripts assigned to the works spreadsheet
program.

I must admit the calendar feature here in works is quite good as well, once
you have mastered the way to use it.

I appreciate the likes of Excel cannot be compared with the works
spreadsheet but if I could get jaws to at least move between cells it would
be a great start. At the moment there does not appear to be a way at all
for jaws to announce the cell or where you are at all when tabbing or
arrowing. Hence I was wondering if Excell scripts could be assigned to the
works spreadsheet?

I am using Windows seven, jaws 12 and probably the latest works program that
comes free with most computers.

If you have need for the portable version of Jaws then you really should
ensure you are using a dongle authorisation as you will burn through your
activations very fast.

Office 2010 support in jaws 11 was all done with the beta.

Your going to need v12 before its fully supported.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with retaining authorisation

2010-07-28 Thread Bob
The Jaws activation is tied to the hardware of the machine it is
installed to.

If you have changed a CD/DVD drive or system memory etc this will cause
the activatin to be lost.
The same thing can happen if for any reason Windows reports your
hardware differently, e.g. an update causes something to be recognised
differently or even an item inside the computer is starting to fail and
isnt detected properly.

If reinitialising authorisation doesnt get it just reactivate and
fingers crossed you will continue for years again without issue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws keeps repeating

2010-07-18 Thread Bob
Could be your screen resolution, if the resolution is very high and the
carat is overlapping the character on the screen Jaws will see it as a newly
written character when the carat flashes off and repeat it to you each time.

See if changing the cursor blink rate changes the rate of the repetition to
find out if this is the cause.

Mike,

besides JAWS, do you have any other self-voicing apps (Openbook, or some
other) that will read character by character, see if this behaviour is
duplicated then? One thought is that this might be a video card issue.
How about when you're writing, is everything ok then?

 Hello Sir;

Thank you for your response and confirming what I thought about how
 key
repeat works. Here is a better explanation of what is happening. If
 I copy
a URL into the address bar and invoke the say line keystroke Jaws will
 read
it just fine. If I press the Home key Jaws will keep repeating the
 first
letter of the URL. If I press the right arrow, Jaws will keep
 repeating
that letter, until I press the right or left arrow and Jaws will keep
repeating whatever letter is highlighted. Pressing the control key
 will not
stop Jaws from speaking. The only way to stop Jaws at this point is
pressing the escape key. I can read a URL character by character in
 an
email or if I paste it into Notepad just fine. I have went into
 manage
applications settings and disabled everything. The problem is still
 there
after disabling everything in the manage applications settings
 dialogue box.
I hope you or someone has some ideas on how I can correct this issue
 because
it is annoying as hell! LOL
Oh, it also does the character repeat in My Documents if I press the
 F2 key
to change the name of a folder. Thanks again, take care.

 Hi Mike,

Just to clear up something. the key repeat feature has nothing to do
with this issue. Key Repeat has to do with when you press and hold
down, say, an arrow key, it continues to move. I wonder if you have
 the
keyboard cursor voice active as well as the PC cursor voice?
 (Something
 I've never delved into.)

I think I have not been clear. When I started the account nearly a year ago,
I entered a list of payees, their addresses and phone numbers. When the site

with is that page of payees and below each entry is an edit box for entering
the amount I'd like to pay. It won't read any of those items so I can't find
the payee I want and then am not able to enter the amount. Does that help? I
have tried the insert escape to redraw the page, and no help.

Aloha all,
Some time back I mentioned that I was having trouble reading parts of
my online banking service screens. Here's the issue.

The information on the page is html. However, when a person adds
information such as the name of a company that they want to pay, JAWS
only reads the part that is html. I have contacted the bank but in the
meantime, is there perhaps something I should change in my settings
that might make it work better? I am told that when I click on the
make payments screen, all of my payees are shown on the screen, but
when I arrow around, I only hear the items that were originally on the
page and none of the things that were added.
I would tell you what my settings are now, but honestly not sure what
to tell. Perhaps this is only something that the bank has to fix and
they are very interested in doing so.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated and tried.
