Re: [JAWS-Users] confusing webpage

2017-05-25 Thread Daniel MacDonald
hi Vicki,
I use internet explorer as my default browser. the page is in Italian.
I can tell because eloquence get's slower and starts speaking
roboticly. when I was a kid, I used to mess around with JAWS languages
back in the JAWS 3.7 update days. I remember what languages sound like
with eloquence. when I press enter on the English link, my fan of my
mac with bootcamp speeds up. whatever the page is, it's processer
intensive at least for me. I tried opening the English page in a new
window thinking that would work, but it was still in Italian in the
new window.
hope this helps,
Daniel

hi susan,
chicken nugget in my experience is the better twitter client, as
apposed to TW Blue, which you are thinking of. that client hasn't been
updated to work with more reasent versions of Windows 10. Chicken
Nugget is paid, though it has good documentation with it. as far as
tutorials for windows 10, I'de recommend reading one , windows 10 in
1000 words, which compairs the two operating systems. their is a Win10
list on groups.io which is worth joining.

hi Melissa,
Webroot causes lots of problems with assistive technology. their are
various people who have posted about it making something wrong with
System Access, on the users forum for that product, and it doesn't
surprize me that Webroot effects JAWS authorization. everybody who
replyed to posts on the subject, say to get rid of it and switch to
another antivirus selution. Viber also has problems with assistive
technology. I would recommend Windows Defender over Webroot.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Successful windows 10 upgrade

2015-08-13 Thread Daniel MacDonald
guys, upgrade through windows update and you'll get narrator as soon
as the windows 10 setup screen launches. I use bootcamp on my late
2012 iMac, intel core i5, 1 TB hard rive, 8 GB RAM. it worked fine.
restarted four times, and I got speech. not right away, their was
notable delay from when I pressed windows+enter, to when windows 10
setup was announced. waiting for official bootcamp drivers so my
volume controls work, other than that, when without a hitch; you can
get rid of the windows.old folder by doing a disk cleanup and
scrolling down to delete operating system files.. I'll keep it because
when I called the microsoft disability answer desk and asked about
windows 10 ultimate, they said it wasn't hurt yet, implying that it
will come out in the future. so, is the downgrade process just as
smooth and the upgrade process?

No, there is no speech on that window.
You will need help with only this screen, as far as I have experienced so
 far.
You can do an ALT+n, for the next button.
You will need help to choose express settings.
Then ALT+n, for the last next button.
Wait for your system to come up talking on the windows 10 desktop.
 enjoy, I hope this helps...

I just completed my third update to windows ten, this time on our w_8.1

I used the Microsoft media tool.
I first reserved windows, this morning on our laptop.
I then ran the F S windows tool for preparing for windows 10.
Next I downloaded the media tool from Microsoft.
I went to my download folder, and ran the media tool.
I chose, update this computer, from the media tool.
I had speech all the way through until it was done and loaded the windows 10
 system.
I tried narrator, but it would not see the next button at that time until
windows 10 had been totally installed.
 I pressed the next button.
 I Chose express settings.
I press the next button, and I waited until the desktop with windows 10
 loaded.
 this installation was super smooth.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Jaws, did the same with my Mcafee, all is
 good.
I then customized the system and checked for new updates.

an answer for another post about the windows.old folder.
I think we have to wait the 30 days before we can totally remove the
 windows.old folder.
Microsoft wants to give everyone the chance to go back to their previous
version if they wish to go back after 30 days.
I’m tired now, time for more coffee...ahahahhahahah

Re: [JAWS-Users] Issue with Jaws 16

2014-11-22 Thread Daniel MacDonald
hey,
I think you mean GB instead of MB for RAM. maybe their is a problem
with your video card in your computer. JAWS 16 has mirrer drivers in
windows 7, which allow for things like reading line by line. I
personally don't have the issue on windows 8.1, but if you first go to
device manager and check that the merrer driver and your driver for
your video card are installed. go to control pannal to device manager.
their are different options in the tree view, but find the one that's
display adaptors. if you video card isn't listed their, then go to
other devices and the video card should show up. execute the install
option if that's the case. when JAWS was updated for windows 8, their
were lots of issues, one of them being that the video accessibility
driver, which came next after the mirrer drivers that are in windows
7, wouldn't install. maybe Freedomscientific in the process of making
drivers for windows 8.1 brok the mirrer drivers in windows 7, just
speculating here.

 Hi Group,

A friend of mine is having a problem with JAWS 16. Here is his problem

Hello, all. I am wondering if anyone is experiencing this frustration with
JAWS 16 and if you have any suggestions (besides going back to JAWS 15) of
 a
setting I might check on my computer.

 I am using JAWS 16 on a Fujitsu laptop, Windows 7 64-bit. I have 8 mb of
 RAM
 and a 2.1 processor.

When I read through a document line by line, using the down arrow, JAWS
often rereads the line, even though I have pressed DownArrow. In addition,
 I
am a fast typer, and sometimes I notice skipped letters. I could blame this
on my typing, but I did not see it until I installed JAWS 16.

I contacted FS Technical Support and, upon their recommendation, did a
repair of the install. As that made no difference, I uninstalled JAWS and
all shared components and reinstalled from the DVD. Still no success!

This is the most frustrated I have been with a JAWS release in many years.
Again, I am wondering if there is a setting I need to check on my computer,
but all other versions of JAWS run smoothly.

Any suggestions you can give me would be much appreciated.

hey LeDon,
the only voices you can install with JAWS I think, are vocalizer
expressive. you can download, Tessa, for example, and running the
exacutible file for the voice. so you'd get it from the more voices
item in the help menu, which takes you to the Vocalizer Expressive
site for JAWS 15 or 16. you can also go to
freedomscientific.com/downloads and their is a link their for the
Vocalizer Expressive voices. their are also links to RealSpeek and
Vocalizer direct voices for older JAWS versions. their is a download
button for Tessa, for example. either save the file, and when it
downloads, open it by pressing enter, or run it. follow the
installation instructions provided, and it will tell you you need to
restart JAWS to complete the installation. do that, and you'll find a
voice profile, Vocalizer Expressive(Factory), select it and their you
go. repeet this for as many vocalizer expressive voices you want.

 Ann Marie,

Do you know your serial number? If so, you can go to www.fsactivate.com
and retrieve your activation key. Just follow the instructions on the
page, it takes a few minutes and there will be about 3 or 4 different
pages to open up during the process, but just scroll down and read what
 it

tells you to do. You can then download the JAWS 15 file from the Freedom
Scientific Downloads webpage. JAWS 15 will now be found under the Past or

Old versions of JAWS link. If you do not know the serial number, I am
afraid that you will only be able to use JAWS in the 40 minute demo mode.

Another option is if you have someone at home who can retrieve the serial

number off of the software packaging for you. Good luck.

Also for some reason the script manager seems to be broken in the beta. I
hope that is only for a short time.

Other than that I do like the features discussed on the pod cast.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Media Center controls?

2014-08-24 Thread Daniel MacDonald
hey Rich,
windows media center is a program to watch tv through your pc. you
need a tv tuner card, and an HDMI cable to use it. as for stopping
startup of windows media center, the only way I know of is to go into
the system configuration utility and disable it there. press windows+r
to get to the run dialog, and type msconfig. go to the survices tab by
pressing control+tab. look for windows media center their and uncheck
the windows media center box. it will say running and unchecking it
stops the survice from running at startup. .

Could someone tell me what this program does and steps to use it?
 Or, how to un-use it.

I was clicking on options like, set up speakers, monitor, settings etc. I

Sometimes, I think I should listen to my wife who tells me not to experiment

hi Tom,
the freedomscientific homepage changed back in june. now their is more
ARIA in it, which takes some getting used to. also, their are more
menus on the site, like products and survices, training and support,
etc. you press space to activate these menus, use yor arrow keys to
select, and enter to conferm your selection. most of the links open in
new tabs, and the download submenu option has in adition to download
links for jaws and majic, also has such links for open book, drivers
for the majic large print keyboard and deskset video magnifires, and

Re: [JAWS-Users] remote assistance and jaws

2014-08-09 Thread Daniel MacDonald
hey,
in my experience their are no remote assistants programs which work
with jaws accept for the ones freedomscientific supports in their
product and documentation. the thing is, with remote assistants
software, a graphical representation of the other person's desk top
shows up, which jaws cannot read. so the only such software which will
work is jaws tandom out of the box. their is other software, sitrix,
ms remote desktop, and ms terminal services, but for those softwares,
you need to perchase the remote access addon froom fs-jaws
professional only. plus you have to install third-party softwares
witch are document in the jaws help, under the remote access topic. I
bought this addon, also tandom direct, which is like the tandom
senter, accept over a private network, and you again have to pay extra
for it. about $500 Canadian dollars.

OneNote does require skripts. you can get them from onenoteblind.com.
these are made by a blind developer, John Marton. they cause around
$20 CAD if memory serves me correctly. they work with OneNote 2007,
