Re: [LegacyUG] The + sign at the end of some event/fact entries
Amazing what you find when you hit F1 when you are on that screen, see the last line under The Events/Facts List: From the Help file: Events / Facts You can add unlimited additional facts and events to an individual. These can include things like occupation, graduation, immigration, awards, ordinations, etc. Legacy comes with many pre-defined events like those previously mentioned. You can use these and also add any new events you need. To add an event click the Add button to the right of the Events box (See Add or Edit an Event). To edit an existing event, first highlight it in the list and click on the Edit button. An event consists of an Event Name, Event Description, Event Date, Event Place and an Event Note. Only the Event Name is required, but it may seem meaningless without a date, place or comment. The Events/Facts List has several columns: Event/Fact - The name of the event. Date - The date the event occurred. This can also be a date range for events that occurred over time. See Entering Dates in Date Fields. Desc/Place/Notes - The place where the event happened and the beginning of any comments entered about the event. (A slash (/) divides the various entries.) Sources - An S is displayed in the column to indicate that one or more source citations document the origin of the event. Addition Information - A plus sign (+) is displayed in this column if additional pictures or an address have been added to the event. -Original Message- From: MJ SA Sent: Saturday, October 27, 2012 5:22 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] The + sign at the end of some event/fact entries I think it means they have a family or they have parents. Re: [LegacyUG] Email with Symbols
They are artificial characters added by your email reader because it does not have the correct symbol for that contained in the incoming email. This is usually caused by differences in the character set the user used in their email and the character sets installed on your computer. Re: [LegacyUG] FGS Report
A macro is programing language that is specific to a program. It helps you automate repetitive tasks. For instance if I want to if I want to apply a style to the 1st and 4th cell in multiple tables I will record a macro then run it on all the tables ( I might have 200 tables). The tables are how I set up the family group sheet. Here is a link to a pdf file of a part of the book I am working on. https://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJiS3hlZDU3N0QwZXNUQw On 2012-10-26 08:52, Lavern Hall wrote: @ Daphne, What does write a macro mean? @ Leon: From reading your post, it sounds like your books follow the Decendant book format. Thanks, Jenny, and others. I had somewhat figured out that it had something to do with pictures but didn't know about the addresses. I checked out the encoding on Pat Hickin's original post, and it was indeed UTF-8. It appeared fine (no weird characters) in Outlook 2007, so I guess my reader handles UTF-8. Despite that, like Ron, I still get the weird characters. For me, it appears that it is in the original text quoted in replies where the person replying had a newsreader that mangled the character set. [LegacyUG] Gedcom of Direct Line Ancestors
Hello, I am trying to create a gedcom of my husband's direct line ancestors to post on a DNA site. I can only include birth and death date and location info of his direct line (no other info and no other individuals). I do not want a report, I want a gedcom file. I cannot figure out a way to do this, aside from laboriously going thru every unwanted person in my data and deleting them (my file is VERY large). I have tried tagging and ended up wiping out my entire file. I have tried to create a focus group but my export includes all my file, not just the individual and ancestors. I cannot view the focus group and so have no idea what it may contain. I have seen reference to a miscellaneous search to see the contents of a focus group but cannot find that button or word anywhere in my software. I am totally lost. Anytime I search for something in the Legacy help file it refers me to something that I cannot find, or which leads to another reference to a button I cannot locate. I am not a new Legacy user, but am a basic user. I do not use advanced functions in my daily entry of data. I am using the latest build of Legacy. Re: [LegacyUG] Gedcom of Direct Line Ancestors
Here's how it is done.1) Check the box Enable tagging options in OptionsCustomizeGeneralTagging Options. Click Save. 2) Navigate to the individual for whom direct line ancestry will be exported to a GEDCOM so that person is highlighted (called the current individual).3) Control-T to open the Advanced Tagging window. It should show the highlighted person from step 2 in the field just below Individual Tagging.4) Set the Untag radio button and set Make changes on #: to a tag number that can be cleared.5) Next Set the Tag radio button, keep the Make changes on #: tag number that was cleared in step 4.6) Click on the Ancestors button. The individual highlighted in step 2 should show in the field just below Current Individual.7) Enter the Number of Generations to include that will be tagged.8) Set the Direct Line Ancestors radio button.9) If the export will be to a GEDCOM, this step is unnecessary because the 3 boxes described will be set again at step 18. An export to another Legacy database will use the 3 boxes at this step. Uncheck the 3 boxes just below that radio button titled Include Other Spouses, Include Siblings, and Include Spouses of Siblings. (If you wish to export complete group sheets for all the direct line ancestors, then leave these 3 boxes checked.)10) Click OK to have the designated ancestors tagged.11) Click FileExport toGEDCOM file to open the GEDCOM Export window.12) Click the Privacy tab and check the boxes as desired. If you want all private items to export, click the button Check All and it will set all the other boxes for you.13) Click the Options tab.14) Select from the pull-down menu Produce file for: the intended file format for the export.15) Select from the pull-down menu Character Set: the intended character set for the export.16) Set or check any of the remaining options for the export.17) Click the button Record Selection then set the radio button 18) Set the radio button All records with an individual tag of: and the tag number from step 5. Then uncheck the 3 boxes that were described in step 9 or check them if desired.19) Click Close.20) Click Select File Name and Start Export.21) Enter a file name that will receive the GEDCOM exported data.22) Legacy will export the GEDCOM information to the file specified in step 21 and then display a Message window that shows how many individuals and families were exported. Click OK.23) Use the exported GEDCOM file as desired.
