Re: [MBZ] Rebuilding Floor Jack
First question: Have you added fluid to proper amount? If it's leaking and fluid level is low.. it won't pump as it should. Next questions: Does the Craftsman site have an exploded parts manual for the exact jack? Parts manual? Parts available? If you have the parts diagram, you can see how it comes apart.. order parts and have them in advance.. O rings, seals, and valves and seats.. You will have an AS NEW jack... shouldn't take you more than a couple hours. Re: [MBZ] Rebuilding Floor Jack
Thanks, Grant. Yes, it’s full of fluid. It leaks out of the main ram area, so I know that O ring is shot. Sears has a manual for it, but nothing on the inner workings of the cylinder or valves. There are any number of folks selling “rebuild kits” for these jacks out there, but I wince at the thought of paying someone $50 for a couple of O rings. One of the web sites I looked at today said that the Harbor Freight metric O ring kit would have everything needed to reseal the cylinder and valves. I’m going to swing by HF tonight and drop $8.00 for the O ring set. I’ll probably tear into it this weekend. It's back to (ab)normal now. Now, when I open the trunk with the lock cylinder, the cylinder stays recessed, and pops out when I close the trunk. Praise the Lord for interior trunk releases. The '87 TD is shifting properly again.Changed the trans oil and filter with the correct Mann filter, (use anything else and you die). The filter coming out was Meyle, origin unknown, and the oil was mostly red with some minor particulates..While under there taking off the trans pan, I noticed that the front exhaust pipe mount was missing one rubber thingummybob, which was replaced forthwith! As I was instructed, replaced the mumbleshifterbushingsmumble. The car runs as it should.Tomorrow is fix the front seat memory loss and no movement, maybe a laxative? Now I wonder if it could have been one of the rarest of W123s, built by First Auto Works. http://www.chinacarforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20307#/forumsite/20929/topics/20307 This was in 2006, when you could still see interesting cars in China.
