Hi, I uploaded a new beta to the website (will be synced with the garden minimals). I'm in the process of removing old code that is no longer needed (after all, luatex evolves). As part of the process there has been some changes in the generation of the format. It works ok on my machine (windows 7) and Taco's (linux). It might be that some things are broken but I see no immediate problems. Keep in mind that as we're now in beta mode again, we also need luatex > 0.60 and we will deviate from the tex live current. Best not drop files from the beta into the upcoming tex live but use a separate tree. The next current will be around the context meeting when we also plan to have luatex 0.70+. The typescripts have been written long before LuaTeX existed. 2.) The typescripts still work is almost exactly the same way as they did before 3.) Your can read a lot of information about a specific font (which features are available, which glyphs exist etc. etc. etc.), but that still doesn't give you any information about which fonts you want to combine together and which features you want to use. Take Antykwa Półtawskiego. It comes as regular/italic, in 4 weights (light, normal, medium, bold), in 5 widths (extended, semi-extended, normal, semi-condensed, condensed), about 5 encodings for MKII. You need to tell to ConTeXt somehow whether you want to combine light and medium or normal weight and bold, or maybe normal with semi-extended bold, you may want the size to adapt automatically when you change font size. There is also no reliable way to determine which fonts belong together. You still need to assign a font with a variant somehow. Reading info about a font doesn't really solve the problem of "being able to automatically assign rm, bf, bi etc.", but I admit that there *IS* room for improvement for font handling mechanism in a more user-friendly way (and lua can be of enormous help of course). I switched from python to Lua x context, this is true; I'm still using it for other tasks, particularly Plone, and sometimes sagemath. It's not a bad language at all. When it comes to writing non-luatex code, I'll pick python anytime of the day, a light language with almost no standard library is not what one always need. Oh God, I really didn't want to generate all this fuss, it's really a _very_ primitive script. If I have more time, I'll certainly look into Lua, but I chose Python because: a. it handles complicated string operations, io, regex, etc right out of the box, all of which were needed. b. I'm slightly above noob level with python, as opposed to almost every other language (except Fortran, which was not exactly a front-runner) c. I'm rather more than ignorant about almost every other font tool out there I just reckoned that there has got to be a good way of automatically writing those long, complicated typescripts. hello all, i finished a presentation (my first ConTeXt creation!), and now i've got a couple days to get creative again. i'm trying to understand how the typeset lines of text in the MetaPost manual were outlined in Section 5.1. i've just discovered that \MPpos only seems to work in MPpositiongraphics, and initialize_box sets `pxy' to \hpos's contents bounding box. what if you want pxy to be not strictly a rectangle, but the path that encloses text, etc., which is just part of flowing text in a paragraph, like page 247 (beginning of Positional Graphics chapter) in the MetaPost manual? i've read the MetaPost manual. i hope the answer isn't too obvious. thanks, adam <>___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___
[NTG-context] Wrong spacing before and after commas in math(?)
Hi, if I'm typesetting for example $(a,x,\dots,b)$ I see that the space before the x is too small. It should be bigger than the space after the x. I could work around it by typing $a,\,x,\dots,\,b$ but this is somewhat inconvenient and even a bit too much spacing... On the other hand, the spacing before \dots is just right, but the spacing after \dots is too small: the spaces between commas and periods ",...," should all be the same. Is this a bug? Can this be changed by a global option or something? Thanks for any help in advance. > more acrobat and initialization and so ... some of these things change > per version; which version of acrobat? test file? I have Adobe Reader 9.3.2, which I think is the latest. The following test: \starttext \dorecurse{1000}{\tooltip[middle]{test}{test}} \stoptext produces a pdf which opens up with the purple band at the top. There is a button (which doesn't look much like a button) on the left of this band that will hide it when pressed. Still I'd like to control it. I have a closely-related question. I'm preparing a document for screen reading, and I always have to push the Adobe Read button "click to show one page at a time" to make it behave nicely. I'm guessing that the command to keep the purple band from my screen is similar to the one that would push this button automatically and begin the document in the one-page-at-a-time mode. I'm using: \setupinteraction[state=start,color=,contrastcolor=,focus=???] and I've tried every value I can think of for ???, but maybe that's not the solution. ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

I will probably package it as an .exe when I get the option handling done. Re: [NTG-context] floatcombinations, localfloats [mkiv]
Hello, I can't get it to work too. When we could expect it to be fixed? Or maybe somebody knows a work around to place two floats side by side? Come on ... :) I'm not say that it's wrong. It's the same as if I write a lua script to do "XYZ" for Plone: why ? There are a lot of python code in Plone that probably can be used to do "XYZ". > > Whenever I write something I use the language I master most (even if > it's not the most suitable language for that task), so I guess that > must be the reason. A python's programmer has no problem to write a lua version (and a javascript programmer too, as Mathias Nater showed to me) The key point here is the dependency on another language: for luatex it's almost useless to use a scripting/dynamic language other than lua (I hope one day we will end without ruby and perl for mkiv too, if reasonable) . Of course perl, ruby. python, are all goods programming languages but mixing them together not always make a good pie . -- luigi ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___
