Re: Interesting emails on SanDisk SDHC Card Storage Case
The answer to your question is Costco. The package many products on a large card, whether as a loss prevention practice or to keep smaller products from falling from their cart. The official reply from sanDisk - see last mail - makes me think it was sent to a village moron with no education or intelligence - why SanDisk uses a giant sized costly packaging measuring 15 x 10 inches for a tiny card. Read on:- My 1st email:- Dear Sir, yesterday the 22nd of June 2014 my son bought me a SanDisk 32 GB Ultra SDHC Card costing some CAD 31 for my DSLR from COSTCO. My son’s name is xx x and his Costco membership # is xx111813. The tiny card came in a HUGE 26 x 38 cm packing which would have costed quite a large amount of money. But alas there was no Card Storage Plastic Case or Pouch included?? How do we safely store the bare card?? What a SHAME that a big and famous company like SanDisk should package their Card in a huge and expensive contraption, yet leave out a little box to hold the card safely. That 26 x 38 cm packaging is a JOKE for a tiny SDHC Card. I own some 5 #s high speed SanDisk Cards which all came in their separate cases or pouches. The card cases also come in handy for inserting small notes such as “photos to be downloaded”, “format and use card”, or “ready for use”. I will now have to consider purchasing other card brands for my DSLRs. Thank you for your insensitivity and corporate greed. Reply from sanDisk:- Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product. My name is Brad and I am one of the supervisor with SanDisk technical support. I thank you for your valued feedback, this helps us to improve our customer service. I understand that your issue has not been addressed as per your satisfaction and I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. I would like to inform you that we provide plastic cases only with the Extreme line cards not with the Ultra cards. I would suggest you to to buy the cases from any online or retail stores. You can do a search for Jewel cases and you may find them on Amazon's website. I will surely share your feedback with the marketing team. Please reply if you need any further assistance from sandisk. My 2nd email as a reply:- Hello Brad, thank you for the fast response. I am afraid you have missed the point totally:- a) What was the need for a huge and expensive packaging? My God! a package size of 26 x 38 cm for a tiny card, when a smaller 10 x 150 cm packaging could have been sufficient, and the money saved used for a plastic case. b) A giant packaging just eats up more storage space at your warehouse and shelf space at the Retailer. Who pays for all this wasted money? The Consumer Mr. Brad?? c) Please note other manufacturers of high speed Class 10 Cards do provide cases. In fact all my older SanDisk cards came with black pouches or plastic cases. Now I don't remember whether they were Ultra or Extreme cards - all semantics and a bad excuse wrt to Sl. a) b) above. Thanks for pointing me to Amazon and more money. Reply from SanDisk:- Thanks for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product. I appreciate your quick response. I would like to inform you that the packaging size is 26 x 38 cm because of the information that has to be there on the packaging. However, I have had enough experience with MS-DOS and Windows systems over the last few decades to be 100% certain that I have zero interest in going that route. And within the Apple lineup, the Mac Mini, tricked out and paired with the 27 Thunderbolt Display, is about what I would get in an iMac all-in-one for about the same price. With some sacrifice in expansion ports with the Mini. So the Mini is not off the table, but pushed well to the side while I look at other options. Specifically, short version: a. all-in-one (iMac) vs. desktop Mac Pro + display. b. If desktop+monitor, then Apple Thunderbolt display vs. other good display vs. display with wide (Adobe RGB) color gamut. WRT the monitor - I have read several magazine articles and blog comments and other material (including this interesting piece from EIZO: http://www.eizo.com/global/library/basics/lcd_monitor_color_gamut/ ) and I am not sure what I would gain from a wide-gamut display. If web images and printers are stuck with sRGB, then for me to see a better image on my desktop isn't really going to do anything except to further increase the load on my credit card. And if the iMac or Apple Thunderbolt style monitor is good enough, then do I need a desktop at all? A current quad-core iMac with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M GPU with 4GB graphic memory plus some system memory and drive upgrades would be about $2900. The quad-core base version of the new Mac Pro will start at $3000, including 2 AMD FirePro D300 GPU's with 2GB on each. Some TBD added cost of memory upgrades, cables, etc. So, is there sufficient value added with the desktop and its option to go for a wide gamut display? Am I gaining other intangible benefits from the (to me) inscrutable differences in processor and GPUs between the iMac and Mac Pro? Should I save some money on the computer system and buy a 20-40 lens? Speaking of Horseshit, I have another nomination. I'm staying in a Hilton hotel tonight. As an HH Honors member they seemed to offer free internet. (Most every motel on the interstate highway offers free internet.) On closer inspection, not really free at Hilton. No problem says I, the alternative is free to ATT customers. So I try that option, not quite. We need your ATT address and password. That I don't really remember, but with a cell phone call they help me with my address. Can't do anything about the password though. Have to call this other number for that. So I call. While a black man with poor English was helpful on the first call, the oriental woman on the second call was unbelievable! First, she has an unintelliginle accent - very poor Engllish language pronounciation. Second, she's talking so fast, I can't make out what she is saying. (And I've got a pretty good ear for it after my share of 3 hour conf calls to China.) Third, everything she says is clipped. It is being dropped by the cellphone connection. And fourth and most infuriating, she isn't listening! I say something and she launches into a 25 second sing-song monologue. I talk over her, but she just continues to speak.. I tell her to listen, but she doesn't. I tell her she is not conversing with me. I tell her I can't understand what she is saying. I tell her she has poor language skills. She continues to ask me about irrelevant questions. I finally give up and just start guessing at my password. I make a good guess and get signed on, after 30 minutes of horseshit. Re: Windows 8 is Horseshit.
Bill, It really isn't as bad as all that. Especially on a laptop. Slide your finger onto the touchpad from the right to pull up charms, do the same from the left side to go to the last app, and down from the top to bring up the menu for the program. Far easier than the hot corners. Windows key and D gets the desktop, Windows key and X brings up a useful menu. It is just a matter of it being different. There is a very similar bridge on Onondaga Lake Parkway in Syracuse, NY. All sorts of warning signs, flashing lights and they still hit it. In the mid-to-late '90's I was a co-chair of a NATO research committee. We put together a Workshop (the presentations from which eventually became a book; and thus is world peace achieved). My Canadian colleagues in the group organized and hosted the workshop at Canada's counterpart to West Point in Kingston Ontario. So I went early, hung around New York's Finger Lakes district visiting relatives, then drove my rental car to Kingston via I-81 north, then the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway back southwest. A nice trip expect for the border crossing into Canada. Why are you here? the boarder guard queries. To attend a NATO Workshop at the Royal Military Academy in Kingston I replies. I fully expected a Welcome, glad to have you here! Instead I got a half-hour interrogation, careful scrutiny of my official U.S. Army travel orders, my official invite to the workshop on official Canadian Government stationary, my passport, my I.D card, etc. I don't know if it was because I wasn't wearing a suit, if it was the beard, if it was my coming in from upper NY even though I was based in Kansas . . . They gave me a non-WiFi modem, so I tried to connect it up with one of my three previous Wi-Fi routers (Belkin, Apple, Cisco), and could get all three of the WiFi routers to work but not one of them will attach me to the Internet (through wireless or through an ethernet wire from the back). If I go directly from the back of the Cox modem to my Mac, the internet comes up. For some reason, my WiFi routers cannot seem to get the Internet signal from the modem. I tried 4 different ethernet wires (between modem and router) just to make sure that wasn't the problem. And I did make sure that the modem was connected to the right ethernet connection (ingoing, not outgoing). Is there something obvious that I'm missing here? All three routers do make a connection with my computers, but no Internet signal is detected. Sounds like the routers may still have old IP addresses from whatever ISPs they were last connected to. It may be as simple as telling the router to release its IP and get a new one from Cox. - No virus found in this message. Re: Peso: Boston
Not quite so dramatic. Or maybe more so if you were walking beneath. Hancock II was designed with a glass façade. While under construction in the early 70's they discovered that the glass used at the higher levels of the building was not up to the wind load and was falling from the building. It was all removed, replaced temporarily with plywood and new glass specified and put in place. Building 19, a distressed merchandise vendor had a lot of fun selling the removed glass through their outlets. They weren't allowed to say where the glass was from, but alluded to it in so many varied and humorous ways. Because of the temporary plywood it got nicknamed Plywood Ranch which was a lumber vendor at the time. jm -- From: David J Brooks pentko...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, September 03, 2010 3:45 AM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: Peso: Boston On Thu, Sep 2, 2010 at 10:05 PM, John Mullan k...@hotmail.com wrote: Then again, the newer Hancock was known as the Plywood Ranch when its windows were falling out. jm Like the Crimson Permanent Assurance.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX61PUZ3xkI Dave -- From: Miserere miser...@gmail.com Sent: Thursday, September 02, 2010 8:43 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: Peso: Boston On 2 September 2010 18:36, Steven Desjardins drd1...@gmail.com wrote: I went to meeting in Boston last week. So I have finally started to transcribe about 20 tapes from my auto trip across the country in 2001 - started in October of that year... And I'm enjoying coordinating my verbal notes with a map for the most part, checking out the maps on line ... I come to a place in the tape where I have just gotten on to route 224 from route 71 in Ohio somewhat west of Akron... and I say So I see a sign that says I'm one mile from Lodi... I stop the tape, go to google and type in Lodi Ohio... and see that they put that little pin on the border of Ohio and West VA... Iknow that can't be, because I would ahve been going east if that were the case... not to mention I was farther north... My print rand McNally has Lodi very close to where my notes tell me I should be... So I go to MAPQUEST and it shows two Lodi's ... one in the correct spot and one in the faux' spot that the google map showed. seriously -- IS there a place you can go to and say hey guys, ya got this wrong...? ann -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: PESO Even more bokeh
I can answer part of the diesel fuel cost question. Way back when, before the mid 70's diesel was abundant because it was essentially a waste by-product of gasoline production. The fuel crises came and went and there was a sudden discovery that diesel engines were more economical than spark combustion engines. This lead to a couple of problems, first Detroit tried to convert spark ignition engines to diesel, with the crazy results that followed, and more real diesel engines made their way into light trucks and passenger cars. Demand for diesel today is such that it is no longer a by-product of making something else, but a desired product. In addition it is being manipulated to reduce sulphur and particulates adding to the cost. If there weren't so many diesel powered vehicles diesel fuel would still be dirt cheap. jm -- From: Toine to...@repiuk.nl Sent: Tuesday, May 25, 2010 9:59 AM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Subject: Re: PESO Even more bokeh Bad news I can't return the lens and now you all have to endure another one: http://www.repiuk.nl/index.php/blog-mainmenu-97/137-yet-another-bokeh Toine On 24 May 2010 21:14, Paul Sorenson allarou...@earthlink.net wrote: Yes..please return it before we all try to buy one. ;-) The best description I can think of for that image is ethereal. -p On 5/24/2010 1:27 PM, Toine wrote: Maybe I should return this lens, it's highly addictive. http://www.repiuk.nl/index.php/blog-mainmenu-97/136-even-more-bokeh K20D Lensbaby without aperture rings.
