Frog, is it possible that you recently moved your e-mail account data
from one computer to another using CD's?? If so, this usually results in
the files being marked as "Read Only" so SM, logically, is unable to
write to those files.

Yes, my inbox files have been routinely moved from my older computers to
newer ones...starting from the old Netscape days to today.  This is what
caused me to think it was a good time to do a royal house cleaning of my
Inbox...a very time consuming process to say the least.  I still believe
it should be possible to re-designate my present Inbox message folder to
"Old" and open a new folder.  Is it possible to take this type of action
and how do I do this?  I think the process I am following now will be
complete some time around my 100th birthday.

In Windows Explorer, locate your e-mail account and right click on one
of the files/folders and check its Properties is not set to "Read Only".

I was moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10 some months ago...I now
understand that Windows Explorer in now File Explorer.  If so, I am not
sure how to get to get to my e-mail account to click on one of the
files/folders.  I can go to File Explorer and can find Inbox listed
there...but I can't figure out how to enter the Inbox to see
incoming/outgoing etc. under this heading like I once could under
Windows Explorer.  I think that the messages are not Read Only, however,
as they appear as a mixture of Read and Not Read in SeaMonkey when I am
in am using the Inbox.  In any event, I was unable to follow the Windows
Explorer path you suggested.

Hello Daniel...it has been some time since our last contact.  I'm sorry

multiples of me in order to keep up with my responsibilities right now.
I hope things will settle down somewhat after the start of the new
year...I certainly hope that will be the case.

Frog

Frog, what you might need to do is set yourself up with several folders
in your e-mail account. I normally have my Inbox, a Family folder, a
Church folder, a Mozilla folder (for these groups), a Usenet folder (for
my UseNet posts), a Genealogy folder, ... etc., etc. These should all be
created by SeaMonkey at the same level as your Inbox.

These can be set up, in SeaMonkey, by selecting your e-mail account then
selecting File->New->Folder and call it something you understand. Do
this as many times as you need. Then drag and drop your e-mails into the
appropriate (new) box.

I then go one step further and create an "Archives" folder under my
"Local Folders" account with a sub-folder for 2017, etc., and "Drag &
Drop" the folders from the e-mail account to the "2017" folder on or
about 1st Jan. SeaMonkey then creates a new Inbox in the e-mail account
when you re-start SeaMonkey, but you will need to re-create the other
folders.

Create a new folder, name it something like 'Inbox, needs attention' --
then move all the messages in the regular inbox to this new folder. This
may take some time, but it will clear your regular inbox.

Thanks Bill for your reply to my message.

I presently am going message by message to remove those I don't think

I don't think so, unless disk space is exhausted where inbox lives.

I have to think it could well be related. Many individual spams are getting
awfully big. AOL's inbox space might not be big enough to hold messages for the
specified length of time. If she's leaving messages on server for 30 days, try
cutting back to 10 or 14. Check with AOL if inbox size can be increased.

If none are being left on server yet AOL inbox is full, something must be wrong
either with SM or AOL.

I have two POP mail accounts, one set to leave on server 11 days, the other 25.
The one set to 11 is using about 25MB. The one set to 25 is only using about
5MB, but I just reduced it from around 37MB by deleting all emails 3 digits
large, which were running e.g. 159, 164, 241 & 316 KB.

How often does she compact folders? I do it daily. If she never does, maybe
doing it is overdue, especially if triple digit spams have been routinely
reaching it.

Thanks Felix for your reply. I do check my mail several times a day so
I don't think the build-up is located at AOL. As I stated earlier, my
preferences are set to remove my messages from my ISP when they are
downloaded to my computer. I have resolved that my problem must have to
do with the volume of messages stored in my Inbox...thus, I am now in
the throws of doing a thorough house cleaning of my Inbox. I hope this
going to solve my problem.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this subject...I have been

It may also make a difference if you use HTML for composition rather

You can post it to https://pastebin.mozilla.org/ or your personal web space or
any other pastebin, then post the link here. Mailing list archives don't need
binary attachments that become obsolete shortly after creation, and bloat
mailing list subscriber's email accounts. Most newsgroups whose purpose is not
sharing binaries reject binary attachments.

I forgot to mention that the only way to end this problem is to kill
the program and restart it. Then it doesn't happen for a while.

I'm getting this, too, usually if SM gets messages in background while
running mlb gameday. CPU sticks at 25% (I have four processors, so it seems
to be maxing one of them out), and RAM is two or three gigs, far more than
usual. The screen pales, and the spinning ring persists for five or ten
minutes or until I give up and force a shutdown.

After I force it to close, the first thing I do on restart is clear private
data, including cache and cookies. Then I do a normal program shutdown and
restart, and it's good for awhile, until I have another game to "watch."

Not quite the same for me. I don't see any undue CPU, memory or disk
usages. The program continues to function (well, as good as it ever does).
It just won't get rid of the hourglass. This time it started not long after
I restarted the program.

The hourglass goes away over the titlebar or in the composition window. I
also don't see it in the browser window, just the mail/newsgroups window.
Also, every once in a while it will go away, but as soon as I move the mouse
it returns.

Copy/paste the contents here.

Note that 2.48 has been released. It might be worth
upgrading to that version.

And Adrian Kalla has even released unofficial 2.49.1
builds, which may have fixed the issue (or not).

@FRG: are Adrian's builds available somewhere else?

Re: Updating from 2.46 to 2.48

The updates are here. You could also do a manual update and save around
24 MB in download size:

https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.48/update/win32/
I did this once and it wasn't worth it. Just grab the installer and be
done with it. 2.48 should be an improvement over 2.46. Gecko overall
gets better with every release. Only now with 56 (2.53) things start to
really go down the drain.

Depends on your connection speed. Is 38 MB a problem? For comparison,
2.46 was 35 MB.

The subdirectory
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.48/win32/en-US/
contains:

FileSeaMonkey Setup 2.48.exe38M 21-Jul-2017 08:32
...
Fileseamonkey-2.48.zip 48M 21-Jul-2017 08:32

I was surprised to see that the zip file was 10 MB larger -- it turns
out that's because it contains all the SeaMonkey files and folders
instead of the installer.

This will not work at all for this release assuming that you are using the
official version. If you use Linux and the version is/was provided by your
distribution just ignore. The distributor will then update it as usual.

If it comes down to doing a new build (very very very unlikely) you would need
to download again and reinstall but nothing which would be problematic.

I don't have an answer for your problem but you may want to reconsider the
"load all images" (email presumably) because you will subject yourself to
tracking by the webbugs that spammers use.

"[√] Block images and other content from remote sources"

Re: Sluggish Data Manager and Stored Passwords Manager since SM 2.46 upgrade

2017-07-14 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl

From the 2.48b1 release notes. I should have updated the 2.46 ones too:

If you experience a hang and/or get a message box that a script is busy when
opening the Data Manager try deleting the webappsstore.* files from your
profile folder when SeaMonkey is not running. These contain data stored by web
sites and will be recreated during the next start. If you are unsure if the
information is needed please back them up before deleting them. The problem is
tracked in bug 1305624 but so far no coding error has been found.

I do not see this problem. Launching Data Manager and Password Manager
seem instantaneous for me.

A slowdown might be caused by having a really huge number of some form
of managed data: cookies, preferences, passwords, etc. If this is true,
then a delay in launching Password Manager might have nothing to do with
the number of passwords since requesting Password Manager launches the
Data Manager.

The json file contains the browser configuration and I think is used to
restore the session. I tend to be cautious: try (with SM closed) just
moving them all to another directory then restart the browser.

Lem Johnson

I found the two files you mentioned plus 'sessionstore-1.json' through
'sessionstore-.json'.

Only the file listed as 'sessionstore.json' had a value - about 800, and
all of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' files (x = 1 through )
listed a value of '0'. Out of desperation, I moved 'sessionstore.json'
and all of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' to the recycle bin.

Restarting SeaMonkey, the problem had disappeared and I don't find
anything else has gone wrong. Could this mean that v.2.46 has a
limit on the number of sessionstore files that can be stored?

My inclination is to dump all of the files in the Recycle Bin. Yes?
No? Do something else?

You can toss them. You'll find SM has created a new sessionstore.json
file based on your current browser tabs.

If there is a user interface for changing a preference, I always

If there is a user interface for changing a preference, I always
recommend that in place of manually changing preference variables. This
is because the user interface might involve more preference variables
than merely the obvious one. In this case, there is indeed a user
interface.

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Edit > Preferences].

2. On the left side of the Preferences window, select Browser.

3. On the Broser pane, select one of the radio buttons under "When
restoring sessions and windows". If the middle radio button is select,
select the number of tabs.

4. Select the OK button.

Consider:
* Most state mandate that drivers have liability insurance.
* Employers are mandated to have worker's compensation insurance.
* If you live in a flood zone, flood insurance is mandatory.
* If your home has a mortgage, fire insurance is mandatory.

Why then is mandatory health insurance so bad??

 Original Message

I am running SM v.2.46 on a Dell Optiplex 780 with 64 bit Win7-Pro. For
the last 8 days, every time I bring up SM, it opens with:

"Would you like to restore your session?"

and wants to bring up a session from last week when I had a brief power
failure.

How do I get rid of this reminder? Nothing I have tried will get SM to
eliminate the reminder message. Help!
in about:config, try this (remember your original setting so that you
can go back to it if need be):

If you open the bookmarks manager window, you can pick a folder and
rearrange its contents into any order you choose by dragging and
dropping the files into place. Click on an item, keep holding the mouse

So it appears that in SM 2.46, there IS NO sort LASTING function for
the Bookmarks.

What / Where is the file stored - perhaps WORD or some data processor
can permanently sort the Bookmarks.

Wow !

Bookmarks are in places.sqlite, a database file you can process with the
SQLite Manager extension. Lots of luck!!

Windows Explorer's Search does not locate that file !
What subdirectory is it in ?

DB

W7 is a really poor excuse for a search tool.
Install SearchEverything or something similar.

Your sq location will vary depending on your install.
Mine is at:
C:\Users\A\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\m23r9fz6l.default

You can find the profile location by pulling down the Help menu and

W7 indexing is turned off. Too much of a system drag for me.

places.sqlite is a binary database blob (file) of type sqlite.
http://sqlitebrowser.org/ is home of an app available to do things with it, but
whether you could do any sorting and keep it compatible with SM, or at all, I
have no idea.

Windows Explorer's Search does not locate that file ! What
subdirectory is it in ?

W7 is a really poor excuse for a search tool. Install
SearchEverything or something similar.

I had no trouble at all finding it. Win7's search function is slow if
you search your whole computer, including locations it hasn't indexed,
but pretty fast if you search one drive or folder, especially one that
it has indexed.

So it appears that in SM 2.46, there IS NO sort LASTING function for
the Bookmarks.

What / Where is the file stored - perhaps WORD or some data processor
can permanently sort the Bookmarks.

Wow !

Install SearchEverything or something similar.

Your sq location will vary depending on your install.
Mine is at:
C:\Users\A\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\m23r9fz6l.default

OK !
I found it. I know where it is !
Tried to use 'OPENOFFIC'E to open it.no luck.
What type of file is it ?

I am not a greatly knowledgeable user - so please explain the Jargon if
you try to explain

to me what kind of file it is.and what to edit it with.

Thank you !

Are you asking about places.sqlite or about SQLite Manager?

All may not be lost.
I experience a problem nominally unrelated to "sorting".
It may suggest thought paths "outside the box" that creative souls might
exploit.

My problem is accumulation of bookmarks over too many years.
They were categorized in ways that made sense *AT THAT TIMES* ;/

Now? "Hodgepodge" implies too much organization.
I've been experimenting with a sequence of :
  1. Export bookmarks in HTML
  2. Massage HTML representation
  3. Import tweaked HTML

The results to date have *NOT*:
  1. persuaded me to give up.
  2. encouraged me to publish anything.

IOW Does anyone have spare 96 hour days for 70 day weeks ?
YMMV
