That's a rather odd way to reply to a message:
1: You don't add quote signs
2: You don't add your own signature delimiter
3: You start your own text below the signature delimiter of the
original poster and that's making replying to you rather messy.
I can imagine that using a webmail client makes it difficult to add a
proper cutsign, but please use quote signs and don't write your own
message below an intact cutsign.

sometimes do. Before version 39.08.09 this is what F4 did. Now it quotes

Then how do you reply to a particular person or folder for whom you have

Anyway, you could change the keystrokes in TB! to suit your method of

F4 quoting in a reply

2007-05-06 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello,

Something's changed recently, either with this version or the one before
it. I've lived with it up to now but am getting annoyed so am reporting
it because I can't do anything to change it.

Before, when I hit F4 with the cursor anywhere in the message or on the
message header, I got my reply template with the message pane otherwise
empty. Now the whole wretched message is quoted (only above the cut
mark, of course). As no one else has reported it it must be just me.
I've checked in the customising settings and F4 is set for replying
without quotes.

Confirmed

TB's default action for F4 is 'reply with selected text' and it still
does that. However in v3.95.08 (a random version that was available
for me) F4 with no selection gave no quotes, with the current version
F4 with no selection quotes the full message.

The reason that I didn't notice this behaviour was that I don't use F4
for answering without quotes. (Can't remember when I answered without
quotes for the last time, if I ever did.)

No, you misunderstood me. I used 3.95.08 as that was easy available.
Sometimes when I like the way a release behaves, I copy the executable
and rename it to something like thebat3.95.08.exe and store it in TB's
program directory.
That makes going back to a stable release easy. I close TB and start a
renamed version, for testing or whatever.
Apparently you were interested in the version the behaviour changed,
that was with version 3.98.09

RW I wonder if it's worth putting in a bug report or is it WAD?

I don't know if this was designed behaviour.
These were the (possibly) related fixes for 3.98.09:
,- [ ]
| [-] (#0006217) Double line spacing in plain text replies to HTML messages
| [-] (#0005890) Reply to HTML using text format is a quagmire
| [-] (#0001842) Macro QUOTE doesn't work for multipart/alternative message
with UTF-8 part
`-

If you create a bug report I'll confirm it, but the changed behaviour
doesn't really bother me. It's just different than I expect (and was
used too).

Odd Address handling when quoting

2006-11-07 Thread Stuart Hemming

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Now when I reply to the message instead of getting some this like...

and I can't figure out why.

I've just had another message from someone in the same domain whose
quote marker behaved just as you would expect. Both headers seem to be
the same (or as similar as 2 headers can be).

Is there some odd setting that's doing this?

FWIW, I have access to a macro that generates the correct value for
the quote mark, but I've no idea how to apply this macro to every
individual line in the message.

As far as I know, this worked alright in the past but I don't have any
old exes to try it against any longer.

Re: Odd Address handling when quoting

What sort of template are you using, is it specific to the sender?

I've got an account-level reply template.

However, I /think/ I've identified the problem, but could do with
someone else trying it.

My template includes the line ...

  %QUOTESTYLE=%QINCLUDE(Initials)

So, the first thing I did was drop the call to 'Initials' with is a
quick template I got from somewhere.

I replaced the line with

  %QUOTESTYLE=NE

'cos NE are the initials of the person I was replying to. I created a
reply to one of NE's messages and got the full address as the quote
mark. The, accidentally, I hit reply for someone else whose address
has never been a problem and whose email comes in in the form

  My Mate [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The quote mark was, on this message 'My Mate. I tried another message
where the From line was in the form

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

and got the whole address as the quote mark.

I went back to the template and changed it to ...

  %QUOTESTYLE=TW

And /all/ of the messages this time had a quote mark of 'TW' as you
would have expected.

/Then/ I had an idea. On the dialog that allows you to enter the
template for replies there are a set of radio buttons controlling how
quote marks are, by default, defined. A quick set of tests has
revealed that if you manually set %QUOTESTYLE and the first character
is the same as the first character as any of the radio button options
('N', 'I', 'F' or 'L') (upper or lower case) then TB! will use the
first of those options it finds whose first letter matches.

I can get around it my setting %QUOTESTYPE= NE.

Can anyone reproduce this?

Now when I tried your template I got the above. If I set the quote

Why then have so many keyboard shortcuts, shift clicks, Ctrl+Shift

This was one of VA's strengths. This should be the way The Bat! operates too -
nice and simple ;-)

As you already state, why would you highlight part of a message if you were to
quote all. Surely by selecting text you are making a statement of intent - I
want to perform an action on this text.

Would just like to note to all beta testers interested, the advice of
Stefan Tanurkov in regard to this fix in his BT note
( https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=5149 ):

Begin copy-and-paste from STefan Tanurkov's BT note

OK, in 3.62.13, the Reply All button works as the Reply button (i.e.
Shift=quote selection, Ctrl=no qoutation) . But this would require
change in tbuser.def - mMsgReplyAll should be replaced by
mMsgReplyAllButton in toolbar definitions. Simple deletion of
TBUser.DEF would also help, but that may be undesirable. ;-)

End copy-and-paste from Stefan Tanurkov's BT note===

Many thanks to Stefan for this fix.

9Val, just to report, beta v. 3.62.13 is working perfectly for me in

Not quite so handy as a Shift-plus-Reply-button routine, or a Keyboard

I'm not sorry I wrote the BT report, though. I think the Reply-to-All
option should be made consistent with Reply, in so far as quoting

Possibly that's a typo or an oversight.

Confirmed. I got a verify-wait notification from Diman Pavlov, to

I put a note, subsequent to receiving that, that the issue is not
fixed in v. 3.51.10.

I put the steps to reproduce in once more, and referred also to the

Re: Old Smiley Quoting Bug still present in 3.51.10

2005-07-27 Thread Natasha V Pearce
Hoi Ian

If the smiley is the last item on a line and you select that line for quoting,
it depends on what you select as to whether it will selectively quote or not.

If you drag the cursor so that the smiley at the end of the line is just
 selected, it will not quote.

If you select the line with the smiley at the end and the very start of the
following line (not selecting anything on that line itself), it will not
 quote.

If you select the line with the smiley at the end, plus the following blank
line and the very start of the the next line, the smiley will quote.

It appears that for the smiley to quote, it must have printable white space
after it. It does not quote if there is nothing after it, or if there is just
a carriage return and line feed only after it.

 Can anyone confirm :(

Absolutely. In addition, as I wrote in my note attached to the BT, any smiley on
the last line will not be quoted unless another line/paragraph below the one
with the smiley/s is selected. But only if the last characters represent a
smiley, it seems.

I am soo behind-the-times! Thanks a mil for the support!! :)

Well, when Diman Pavlov changed the status from Verify-Fail back to
Verify-Wait, the version it says it is fixed in is conserved as v.
3.51.10.

Possibly that's a typo or an oversight.

It is most certainly *NOT* fixed in v. 3.51.10. :(

I guess we just have to wait for the next beta release, to see if it
really is fixed.

 at

 bug
as having been fixed on 22.07.2005.

Here's the history:

1) BT notification came down as fixed in 3.51.10. Status: Verify-Wait.
2) I contested that it was fixed, in a note added on the BT issue report
   page.
3) BT notification came down changing the status from Verify-Wait to
   Verify-Fail.
4) Marek Mikus replied to Ian White on TBBBETA that the fix was
subsequent to the release of v. 3.51.10.
5) I posted to Marek asking him to clarify the statement in the light
of the Verify-Fail status report that I had received.
6) BT notification arrived here, changing status from Verify-Fail back
to Verify-Wait. Version listed as fixed in remains v. 3.51.10 on
   the BT issue report page.
7) I added a note on that page asking Diman Pavlov for clarification.

No further BT notifications have arrived here since then.

Unlike your experience with your report of the dropped-characters bug,
all my communications from RitLabs have been formal and
public--nothing from Diman Pavlov except what appears on the BT page,
and posts (not directly to me) on TBBETA by Marek Mikus.

So--as I say--seems to be a case of wait and see. I do hope it is
already fixed! Thanks for all your constant support!

Thank you also for the long PM that was on my machine this morning. I
hope to answer it soon. I enjoyed it very much.

Confirmed, but I don't think you were experiencing the bug which has
been fixed in 3.51.9. I think not quoting the very last one is an
instance of an old bug which has been too elusive so far to track
down.

This bug has been around at least since v. 3.0.

It happens randomly and, also, for considerable stretches of time will
not show itself. Therefore, I say it is random and infrequent.

Making it all the worse, because one is lulled into skipping the
change to PTV before quoting (the only work-around that I know).

In some replies to messages, this omission of a Smiley leads to
misunderstandings that range from minor to serious.

I *do* so wish that we could hunt this bug down! :(

 Is it on BT?

I can't remember whether I made a BT report. At the time that I was so
upset about it, no one would confirm it.

Then, later, others (MAU here on TBBETA) and Curtis (on TBOT) ran into
it. We had some discussion, but I know that I did not go to BT with it
then.

Either Maxim or Marek--or one of the developers, I'd have to do a
search to say from whom I had the reply--said that it wasn't fixable,
for some sort of technical reason.

I'll try to see if a search of BT will turn up any report. I really
don't remember ever making one; I think if I didn't, it was because of
the reply from the developers.

I hope it will turn out to be this way consistently. Then, we might
have a chance of eradicating it.

My memory of it is that occasionally in the past, smileys in the
middle of lines have been omitted. Although, I can't right now recall
a specific message as an example. Or, Smileys at ends of lines within
a paragraph where the full paragraph was quoted, were dropped.

But, can't be sure. I just have a strong memory of it's having
happened. Unless I dreamed it. ;)

Anyway, I can't thank you enough for taking time with it for me!
