Now the whole wretched message is quoted (only above the cut mark, of course). As no one else has reported it it must be just me. Odd Address handling when quoting
I get mail from someone whose From (and Reply-To) header comes in in the form [EMAIL PROTECTED] Now when I reply to the message instead of getting some this like... tp blah blah blah I get ... [EMAIL PROTECTED] blah blah blah and I can't figure out why. I've just had another message from someone in the same domain whose quote marker behaved just as you would expect. Both headers seem to be the same (or as similar as 2 headers can be). Is there some odd setting that's doing this? FWIW, I have access to a macro that generates the correct value for the quote mark, but I've no idea how to apply this macro to every individual line in the message. Re: Odd Address handling when quoting
What sort of template are you using, is it specific to the sender? Does this happen with anyone else that you reply to? I've got an account-level reply template. However, I /think/ I've identified the problem, but could do with someone else trying it. My template includes the line ... %QUOTESTYLE=%QINCLUDE(Initials) So, the first thing I did was drop the call to 'Initials' with is a quick template I got from somewhere. I replaced the line with %QUOTESTYLE=NE 'cos NE are the initials of the person I was replying to. I created a reply to one of NE's messages and got the full address as the quote mark. The, accidentally, I hit reply for someone else whose address has never been a problem and whose email comes in in the form My Mate [EMAIL PROTECTED] The quote mark was, on this message 'My Mate. I tried another message where the From line was in the form [EMAIL PROTECTED] and got the whole address as the quote mark. I went back to the template and changed it to ... %QUOTESTYLE=TW And /all/ of the messages this time had a quote mark of 'TW' as you would have expected. /Then/ I had an idea. On the dialog that allows you to enter the template for replies there are a set of radio buttons controlling how quote marks are, by default, defined. A quick set of tests has revealed that if you manually set %QUOTESTYLE and the first character is the same as the first character as any of the radio button options ('N', 'I', 'F' or 'L') (upper or lower case) then TB! will use the first of those options it finds whose first letter matches. Not quite so handy as a Shift-plus-Reply-button routine, or a Keyboard Shortcut for the Keyboarders, but, still, quite serviceable. I'm not sorry I wrote the BT report, though. I think the Reply-to-All option should be made consistent with Reply, in so far as quoting selected text is concerned, using the icons (buttons) on the toolbar while holding down the Shift key. Re: Reply-to-All quoting selected text
Hello Mary, Thank you so very much for this information. I just tried it, using your post--though I didn't send it using Reply-to-All, simply had a look. And that method does indeed work. Of course it does :) Not quite so handy as a Shift-plus-Reply-button routine, or a Keyboard Shortcut for the Keyboarders, but, still, quite serviceable. There must have been a reason why they implemented it that way and not the way most of us would have expected/desired. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Re: Old Smiley Quoting Bug still present in 3.51.10
Hoi Ian If the smiley is the last item on a line and you select that line for quoting, it depends on what you select as to whether it will selectively quote or not. If you drag the cursor so that the smiley at the end of the line is just selected, it will not quote. If you select the line with the smiley at the end and the very start of the following line (not selecting anything on that line itself), it will not quote. If you select the line with the smiley at the end, plus the following blank line and the very start of the the next line, the smiley will quote. It appears that for the smiley to quote, it must have printable white space after it. It does not quote if there is nothing after it, or if there is just a carriage return and line feed only after it. Can anyone confirm :( Absolutely. In addition, as I wrote in my note attached to the BT, any smiley on the last line will not be quoted unless another line/paragraph below the one with the smiley/s is selected. The change log (whichcanalsobe found at http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/beta/daily.txt ) lists this bug as having been fixed on 22.07.2005. Here's the history: 1) BT notification came down as fixed in 3.51.10. Status: Verify-Wait. 2) I contested that it was fixed, in a note added on the BT issue report page. 3) BT notification came down changing the status from Verify-Wait to Verify-Fail. 4) Marek Mikus replied to Ian White on TBBBETA that the fix was subsequent to the release of v. 3.51.10. 5) I posted to Marek asking him to clarify the statement in the light of the Verify-Fail status report that I had received. 6) BT notification arrived here, changing status from Verify-Fail back to Verify-Wait. Version listed as fixed in remains v. 3.51.10 on the BT issue report page. 7) I added a note on that page asking Diman Pavlov for clarification. No further BT notifications have arrived here since then. Unlike your experience with your report of the dropped-characters bug, all my communications from RitLabs have been formal and public--nothing from Diman Pavlov except what appears on the BT page, and posts (not directly to me) on TBBETA by Marek Mikus. So--as I say--seems to be a case of wait and see. I do hope it is already fixed! Thanks for all your constant support! Thank you also for the long PM that was on my machine this morning. Hello Henk! On Friday, July 22, 2005, 11:58 AM, you wrote: I *do* so wish that we could hunt this bug down! :( Is it on BT? I can't remember whether I made a BT report. At the time that I was so upset about it, no one would confirm it. Then, later, others (MAU here on TBBETA) and Curtis (on TBOT) ran into it. We had some discussion, but I know that I did not go to BT with it then. Either Maxim or Marek--or one of the developers, I'd have to do a search to say from whom I had the reply--said that it wasn't fixable, for some sort of technical reason. I'll try to see if a search of BT will turn up any report. I really don't remember ever making one; I think if I didn't, it was because of the reply from the developers. -- Best regards, Mary The Bat 3.51.9 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 2 Current beta is 3.51.9 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/

Hello Mary, Try this: Copy the text from the previous message, only up to the end of the last smiley. You get this. --- MB I *do* so wish that we could hunt this bug down! :( Well, the latest version *does* quote your last smilie. :-) Only sometimes. And, in fact, I have been using that technique quite a lot in my TBOT correspondence. Occasionally, though, even that will fail. :woe: Still, having that piece of information in the mix--it's never been so explicitly demonstrated before, to my knowledge, so thank you, :thankyou: very much for this input!--might help de-bug the bug. When I get time this afternoon, I'm going to do a search of Bug Track to see if the problem was ever reported there. If I select two or more lines then I must also select the next line to get the smiley retained. I hope it will turn out to be this way consistently. Then, we might have a chance of eradicating it. My memory of it is that occasionally in the past, smileys in the middle of lines have been omitted. Although, I can't right now recall a specific message as an example. Or, Smileys at ends of lines within a paragraph where the full paragraph was quoted, were dropped. But, can't be sure. I just have a strong memory of it's having happened. Unless I dreamed it. ;) Anyway, I can't thank you enough for taking time with it for me! -- Best regards, Mary The Bat 3.51.9 on Windows XP 5.1 2600 Service Pack 2 Current beta is 3.51.9 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html IMPORTANT: To register as a Beta tester, use this link first - http://www.ritlabs.com/en/partners/testers/
