I have received the following messages about scripts not starting under windoze 7. Has anyone else tested any of the scripts? Initial inquiry: Real GreebleZ! version 0.63 can't use in WIN 7 64 bit. Can you help me? Realsoft 3D V 5 works without problems. My response: Could you please elaborate on what is not working, does the script even start? does it return an error? If so what is the error? Also, have you tried any of my other scripts? If so which of them works or not? The response: The script doesn't start. It is in the right folder, like in the XP-Installation. The other scripts that I have (HelixZ 0.5 and so on) don't start too. I have start Realsoft as administrator, but it helps nothing. Thanks, Zaug

So, am I to understand that other than American audiences are not permitted to view Michael Bay movies ?! It is really no big deal, but the comment inappropriately singled out Americans and the syntax details you point out are irrelevant in attempting to negate that fact. I simply tried to take a humorous/sarcastic approach to pointing out a comment that was not very well thought out, to say the least. This is totally off-topic and has nothing to do with Realsoft or 3D graphics anymore. Not sure that has ever mattered very much, on this list. Anyway, I know many very nice and smart American people. But then again, Americans voted for Bush twice so, I cannot decide :-) I am not likely to be considered either but at least I did not vote for Bush either time. Regards, Zaug
Re: Is Realsoft the only real 3D solution on Linux?
Rakesh Malik wrote: Unfortunately, there's nothing comparable to Photoshop for Linux that's in my price range right now... the Gimp just doesn't cut it for my photography. It is not Photoshop and is not a part of my photography workflow, but I understand that Lightroom meets the needs of most (many pro) photographers. It installed and ran well for me under Virtualbox; on a 64bit amd dual core and 3 gigs of RAM. I use to software that came with my alpha 850 and 900 cameras for initial color correction and dynamic range enhancement (it does this better than anything else I have tried, including LR); I run it under wine, but had to install it under VB first, then was a simple matter of moving the application to wine's windows folder. Running under wine instead of VB saves whatever memory you have alloted to your VB machine (about 1.25gig in my case), besides what the app actually requires. I realize that is getting close to the tweaking you speak of, but it only has to be done when installing the app. This method of installing under VB and moving to wine has worked for a few other applications, but not for all that I have tried; definitely worth checking for apps you run often under VB. I will also mention that Noise Ninja is available in a native Linux version; it _is_ part of my workflow - does a fantastic job and is very reasonably priced. I guess that my HW and networking requirements are minimal, but a couple of the main reasons I am running Linux are that I very much like the advanced, journalling (apparently bulletproof) file systems available under Linux and of course it's small system footprint. His posts were often offensive but at least there was PASSION... something this little community needs badly! About V7: I hope they will introduce a few more of these parametric objects (and finetune the existing ones - the Packer springs to mind), it's a brilliant concept. And hopefully, the new rendering engine's memory management will make the bigger plants renderable on 32-bit systems. What did this PASSION evoke, did the community grow, did people contribute more, share more? OR. Did it just usually make some traffic on the list of people attempting to defend themselves or console his troubled soul? I think it was more of a case of making him leave too late; I think the list had already nearly collapsed due mostly to him. Although he had many interesting ideas and points, he was unable to refrain from blaming others for his inability to understand concepts. No matter what anyone contributed, it was never enough for him. I would estimate he flamed half of the people on the list at some point, nearly all undeserved IMO. He inevitably resorted to name calling and other more creative methods of insult. He did his best to be obtuse in order to be able to throw out another insult or nasty comment about someone's method of presenting the results of their work. He left in his wake, many people who had contributed a great deal but had become hesitant to post anything to the list or forum, knowing it was likely to be attacked for some absurd reason; that the person had not written a full tutorial about it, etc.. I agree that RS has issues that need addressing but bringing back someone like that is is not going to help accomplish that. So, if you want drama in the form of drunken, near illiterates insulting each other for absurd reasons, find some crap on TV to fill the void (US network ABC is a likely candidate) , but I do not think we need it here. I'll start churning out the HD renders tomorrow. I'm now probably at 60% of the animation handywork, man it's hard to make it look not too computerish but alive! A lot of choreograph curve editing too. For the pineapple, I'm animating a nurbs curve that has the whole pineapple plus a lattice cage attached to it. This cage I'm using to animate the leaves separately. It's also the perfect tool to squeeze the fruits into the small bottle - if we decide to do that shot. What a great tool: the lattice cage! Even for modeling it could be very useful. The banana is simpler: just a lattice mapped SDS object. Much better to animate a simple nurbs curve than a bunch of SDS points! Thanks for the interest, -Mark Cool! The reflections and the shadows both look great. In my script I have mentioned the exactly name of the path:-) / everything should be ok., although I would like to know if there a any bugs for V6 with the nurbshelper... the pathline of my machine for my script is nearly equal to your path... see the attached text. / the names of any tools are not important, just if you want to load exactly the file with the right name (save or load)... / nurbshelper 1.61 is only the hint to the adapted version to V6... the document (html) is an old one, correctly, but it should be only a info for my nurbshelper script... sunny greetings to canada:-) / bye, Frank -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: user-list@light.realsoft3d.com Gesendet: 06.01.08 16:40:58 An: user-list@light.realsoft3d.com Betreff: Re: frankolinos nurbshelper script fixed - window generating script Hello from sunny California : Bad acid , or an elaborate Chinese Puzzle ? Hang on to your hats as I take us through the current bizzaro-world of java script testing ... Frank : I see you posted on the RS forum new version 1.61 , but the file you posted to the list was frankolinos_nurbshelper151_.zip . This got me thinking , so I tried your zip file (that won't run on my V6) , on V5sp3 . I managed to get this working (fin- ally) and noticed that the toolbar stated it to be 'Frankolinos NurbsCurve Helper XL 1.61B' . In your included Docs you make no mention of 'XL 1.61b' . Anyway , here's what I discovered about the annoying jpeg file problem , as well as the troubles I encountered with this latest version to run . Let's start with the zip file . 1) It needs to be named correctly . 2) It needs an update on the html file (it's 2 years old) 3) The docs need to mention your ... ... _Pro_151_Helix.js 4) When you unzip it , it creates a folder /frankolinos_nurbshelper151_ . Inside THIS folder is the actual folder that a user will need to place in their RS/Scripting Folder in order for your script to run . Notice that the 2 folder names are just slightly diff- erent so as to suck the life out of someone ? In short you need to eliminate the first folder in the zip file . That brings us to the matter of your script's place of residence on our hard drive . V1.61B will not run unless the jpeg file resides in ... :\RS\scripting\frankolinos_nurbshelper151\ The folder _Must_ be named as such , and it must include the .jpeg file there , and only there . Any deviation will result in an error message . However , on my system , I was able to get the script to run if I placed the script in the :\rs\scripting folder , as long as I ran another java script file first (and the jpeg file was where it needs to be) . No idea why that is happening , and maybe it's just my setup (not sure) . Now it's time to mention your previous script ... Frankolinos Nurbs Curve Helix Helper Pro V1.51 . The jpeg MUST be in :\RS\scripting\ , or else it will cause problems . You can move the script to it's own folder and it _Might_ run, but don't move the jpeg . These are great scripts that can and have caused a lot of hair pulling and cold sweats , simply because of a few tiny little errors . Once again , it is very important to do all the little things correctly , such as ... - Name the zip file correctly - Update the Docs with each version release - Notify the user about the jpeg hazard - get others to test it out first , as well as yourself I haven't tested the actual functionality of this script so maybe someone else can take the baton and run with it for a while ? Thanks for your great scripts , Frank ! garry Hang on : There is no V6 demo there for D/L . I give up . Frank , did you get my reply about your rendering problems ? garry I'll D/L the windows demo and try your script . garry __ Erweitern Sie FreeMail zu einem noch leistungsstärkeren E-Mail-Postfach! Zaug Hi Zaug : Ah-so . Yes it's there , and I totally could not find it (not sure what you mean by "until that one only gets a color channel") . I mean just what you say just below, a rendering without advanced illumination results in this single item "list": Anyway , create render just a simple sphere and at the very bottom of the 'View Window/Render' menu is the option to "Show Backup" the 'Colour' channel . Re: Real RangeZ! another script subbmitted for your critique
Works like a charm now! About Map2Obj: for example, to assign random colors to a bunch of objects: - make a simple material with noise color - parallel-map it to a bunch of objects - multi-select the material + objects and activate Map2Obj - select Target=object, Source=color and Destination=color - voila: the objects take on the color, delete the material This tools deserves a whole chapter in the manual, just like UVimage... I haven't tried it much yet but I know it's powerful ;) But Real Rangez is much quicker and can modify more attributes like scale and rotation, the sky is the limit! Great job, -Mark H Mark, Great to hear it is working! We (Timo and I) are looking into reading custom channels; but not much progress, yet. Thankz for compliment; much more to come with this one : ) Zaug
Re: Real RangeZ! another script subbmitted for your critique
Hi Zaug, Sounds like an incredibly powerful tool to manipulate whatever attributes of many objects at once! But I got this error: ReferenceError: layer is not defined (Error:r3mainw:8013) Sounds like something easy to fix... hopefully. Suggestion: would it be possible to use it for custom channels... these are available as object attributes and we could write VSL code that interprets the channels to apply for example different stages of erosion to a large set of objects, each with its own individual 'erosion' setting! Just brainstorming here... I'll try this custom channel thing anyway. Quick reminder: it's already possible to 'bake' VSL attributes like color into a bunch of individual objects with the Map2Obj tool... Your RealGreeblez script works fine, I hope to show something worthy next week! (how about grass nurnies) Thankz again, Mark H Mark, Thankz for reporting. I had already fixed it and now it refreshes correctly, too. Funny that this does not show up under Linux ; P Anyway, there is a new version, 0.07; available at the same place: http://www.catmtn.com/rr/realgreeblez/download.php. Re: What is the best LINUX distribution would you recommand for realsoft?
Lee Elliott wrote: I think you may have misinterpreted the responses - there's very little fundamental difference between different linux distributions because they're all running the same software. The major differences are in the way that things are organised, or implemented, and that's due to the versatility inherent in the linux 'system'. In many ways it's better to think of linux as a modular OS that can be put together as _you_ want - you're not dictated to regarding how the 'modules' work together. In this respect, the main differences between different distros comes down to alternative ways of implementing it. This doesn't affect the base functionality for the system so unless there's some bad design in a package i.e. relying upon distro specific features, all packages will run on all distros. The greatest problem that one is likely to encounter between different distros is that of individual package version features and this isn't any different to Windows, where a application might require a particular service pack (which equates to a newer version of various files/libs) to work. LeeE Lee, Thank you for addressing these points and for doing such a fine job; that sounds more like the Linux I have been working with since RS announced it was working on a Linux version : ) Zaug -- My love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed my mind. |8?o

Essentially, do not use these functions, as it is causing the other groups to be cleared. All functions for the All, Original and Random buttons as well as the select and unselect functions of the top and side buttons seem to be functioning correctly. Zaug After much testing and some help from Fre-ber, (thankz:) I have narrowed this down to something that only occurs in the latest Linux release .80 . I do not know about win versions, but would welcome any input. The test is this: Select some faces Hold down the ` key, this is on the same key, below the tilde (~) on a US keyboard (translations for other keymaps would also be welcome) and click the User button; this adds the selected faces to the user face group Now, unselect all faces, Shift -click, the All button and again, click the User button(without any modifier keys) The faces you selected before should be selected again.
