...for the tip to watch "Gomer Pyle" last night. Enjoyed seeing Mrs. Mendlebright in a different role. And I think I recognized the music you mentioned as the music that played during the "Barney's First Car" episode when "Hubcaps Lesh" appeared. There was another alumni that I recognized right away, because he was just on the TAGS episode that came on before Gomer, as the real FBI agent in "If I Had a Quarter Million Dollars". Thanks, Ken - and an observation
Thanks, Ken, for your essay on what makes Mayberry so special to you, and the memories it evokes for you. And Happy Birthday! Now, my observation - I know Danny Thomas's older brother, Tom Jacobs, appeared in over 70 episodes of TAGS as an extra in non-speaking parts. He is usually walking down the street, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, and stops to watch something happening as part of a group (although sometimes solo as well). But until the other day, I never noticed that he was the neighbor with the ladder when Otis was trying to escape from the Taylor house in "Aunt Bee, The Warden" (at least I think it's him). ...to all the contributors to the Digest recently who've really picked up the pace. It's nice to see multiple posts almost every day, like it was a few years ago. Thanks, Holland, for all your intersting observations and questions, and thanks to Dewey for that mention of the Youtube dance video - that was really enjoyable. And good to see a post from Ken, the "Mayberry Guru", again. Now, my observation today - it's really something to think about the difference in Andy's character from the first season, when he was a happy-go-lucky, easygoing guy who liked jokes, told stories, and pulled pranks (pretty similar to his Will Stockdale character in "No Time for Sergeants"), to the last season, when Andy was kind of cranky or grouchy a lot, trying to deal Floyd, Goober and the other characters in town, while raising a growing boy. He didn't laugh much, and mostly was trying to be the "adult in the room". Quite a difference - I guess mostly due to Barney leaving the show? Your memory about the episodes with Andy smoking, his revolver, and his tie, is impressive. I guess I was close. On another note, it's been over 15 years since I had the pork chop sandwich at Snappy Lunch in Mt. Airy. I'm not sure when I'll be getting back there, so I figured I waited long enough, and decided today to make my own: a nice breaded boneless pork chop with mustard, tomato, onion, chili, and cole slaw, on some good white bread. I am thankful you are out there spreading the good word as I am certainly not able to do this except in small ways. I've always been told I sound exactly like Kathy Bates, the actress; last week a merchant said besides her there was a little bit of Aunt Bee in my voice and did I know who that was. I laughed and told him how my name on this website is Aunt Bee of Orlando; he was tickled as much as I was! Anyway, keep up the good work on those charming columns too. Thanks, Clyde and Janet
Thank you both for your very interesting and helpful answers to my question about "night" shots - Janet, you have some really good points - and, Clyde, I never noticed the possibility of audio dubbing after a scene was shot. Since I have a lot of questions, here's another - every episode of "TAGS" has a person listed in the credits at the end with the title of "Script Continuity". I've always wondered exactly what this means, since there are a number of things in the scripts which aren't consistent. For example: Barney's years of service (5 vs. 10); whether Barney and Andy are cousins (or just best friends); the distance from Mayberry to Mount Pilot; and whether Mayberry is a village, town, or city (it was called all 3 in different episodes). None of these are really that significant - but I'm just curious what the responsibilities of a "script continuity" crew member are(were). thanks for tips on authentic memorabilia
Thank you to everyone who responded with their tips regarding authentic TAGS memorabilia. I had looked on Ebay and a few other sites and had seen autographs for sale--some sellers were honest and said they were copies---other, well... I knew it was a very, very long shot but when I think of all the dishes used in Aunt Bee's kitchen, (not to mention pickle jars) and tablecloths and books and the million and one other props that must have been used on the show, I wondered if any might ever be for sale. But as a wise responder to my question said, even a certificate of authenticity can be faked. On another note, I saw Aunt Bee on Alfred Hitchcock Presents-Revenge about a week ago. She played a Mrs. Fergusen. And does anyone know of a TAGS chapter in Fayetteville, NC? I love reading all your comments. Maryann ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

I've been playing saxophone, off and on, for about the last 40 years. I played clarinet before that, but had not picked one up in almost 50 years. My church asked me to play on one of their Christmas pieces, but the saxophone just didn't sound right for this piece. So I found my old clarinet, got some minor repairs done, downloaded a fingering chart so that I could remember where some of the notes were and started soaking my reeds. But I still couldn't quite get the sound I wanted. Then I remembered Andy telling one of the boys in the Mayberry band to Andy Gump it. So I pulled my bottom lip in more, like Andy Gump in the funny papers, and was able to achieve more of the sound I wanted. Thanks, Andy! Now, just in case a traveling shoe salesman ever comes through town, I need to keep the saxophone handy and learn Saxamania. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

I've enjoyed this thread on breaking the fourth wall. Thanks to the poster who corrected my mis-hearing of the celebrity at a Golf Event on the Celebrity Apprentice. I thought I heard Andy Griffin (instead of Andy Griffith) but it was indeed Kathy Griffin. The name of one of her books fits her status in comparison to Andy (Life on the D-list). Andy is definately an A-list, but I didn't think he would really appear at an event like a Golf tournament in New York. Just wishful thinking. Sorry about my hearing mistake the short A sound and the long E sound (Kath-EE vs And_EE) along with Griff...made my mind jump to my hero, Andy. I should be used to the confusion...my last name starts with Gri (Gritton) and in school, I was called everything from Griffin to Griffith, to Britton. (kind of like Fife Fyfe and all that) On the one of the current topics...I moved away from my home town..there just weren't enough pickle factory jobs..but I enjoy being in the same state within an hour of where I grew up..and I often visit family there. Thanks for all the Thoughts
Thanks to all of you who contacted me with your thoughts about whether or not I have to cover the police light. I loved the suggestion of using Mr. Schwamp's hairpiece. I really laughed out loud at that one. I finally have decided that I will not cover it. The majority of police officers I talked with assured me there will be no problem and after talking with other people who have Mayberry cars in Wisconsin it is quite clear it is not going to be an issue. I was at a car show tonight and a gentleman brought his restored 1959 ambulance. It had four large revolving red lights on top as well as three large sirens. He said he has never covered the lights in 10 years and has never had a problem. So if anyone thinks I might be the constable of Eau Claire because of the Thingamajig on the top of my car I will know he is probably from somewheres else. Maybe Eckmondwight England. I belong to a large church of 2500 members and have already been asked if I could dress in my uniform and bring the car to our preschool and give the kids rides in it with the siren going and light flashing in the large parking lot we have. Now that will really be fun. Good thing we had enough money to blacktop the parking lot and we did it without stimulus money from the government. Lots of luck to you and yours. Thanks, Kim. I agree on every point.I love Andy and the classic comedy. As a small town/farm kid, I recognize the show's characters as versions of people I knew/know. Don Knotts was an artist, TV's greatest comic actor. Ever.I grow weary of the constant and unwanted religious injections as well. My dad was a church elder and deacon and I grew up around The Bible and our church. But I don't beat people over the head with it. Faith should be a personal thing. When people talk loudly about God, family and country, I clutch my wallet a bit tighter around them. That's one reason I adore Andy. Thanks Gary on Floyd Lawson
It warms my heart that someone picks up on a comment I make. I done extenstive research on this particular episode, Goobers Contest. It bears repeating the selected lines he uttered the given scenes.Yes no doubt everyone on TAGS knew this was Howard's exit. And he went out in in full glory. Again fans please follow my friendly advise. Look at the the classic full blown headshot of Howard McNear , so close up that you can see his full face fill the screen when he says the unforgettable line I already ordered my shampooer with the free foam rinse. This line that closeup was beautifully detailed and executed. The writers knew this wasnt just a line but a special one shot full face summing up Floyd Lawson. They knew the full impact of that clip and line. Bravo Howard McNear. Lastly, regarding Elmo the Druggist. As I interviewed him several times in 71 ,he confirmed he was a druggist (I called it a pharmacist back then) .He said he was sorry to see his role go with the demise of Mayberry RFD. Werent we all. After all Vinnie should know if he was a druggist. Thanks Allan .Tom Kessel Col.Tims Protege Reject. WBMUTBB Silent Auction - Thanks!
We had another successful auction during Mayberry Days and raised $1866.50 on a soggy Saturday morning. Thank you to everyone who donated, bid, and helped out. A special thanks to Harriet Browder for jumping in to answer questions and keep the bids going until the end and to Dewey Lamb for creating some of the best items we've had in the 10 years of having our chapter service project. Vacationing in Mayberry- thanks Mr. Schwump
My first trip to Mayberry days, I was there last Nov. and fell in love with the town. Now I fell in love with the people, the shows, the shops, the look-a-likes. Best vacation- I have EVER had. I have made new friends that I will keep in contact with. Mr Schwump thanks for all of your encouragement. Thanks Bob But The Photo Of Schwamps Brother Reveals More Than You Think
A great new photo to add to the TAGS archives for all fans to enjoy. look at the ensemble of actors in the Courthouse from 1965. but my eye shows me more than the fact Schwamp and older brother are pictured at opposite ends. Goober towers over everyone. look at the look on Schwamp's face one of bewilderment as are most but for Mr. Schwamp its more revealing. Even his older brother has that concerned look. George Cisar has his back to us. But most of all, LOOK at Howard McNear aka Floyd. Look at the effects of the stroke. Look at his expression. Look at his left leg bended to such a degree to indicate the effort of standing and look at his arm , his bad arm resting calmly on his person over that leg. Only we Mayberry fans could have detected such a thing. This is a historical photo in more ways than one. What a fine ensemble of actors we see in this photo. Bulletin: Albert Found the Mystery Man:Up In Barneys Room..Thanks
Albert many thanks for your e mail. i could kick myself. i taped 3 hours of TAGS Sunday then rerecorded over it. I was thinking Mr. Schwamps brother was never in a blackwhite episode but you proved he was. This is the closest to our plan to locate a man almost run over. Folks I dont have the episode but you can check and get back to us. Its Up In Barney's Room. Barney runs like crazy into the courthouse after learning Mrs. Mendlebright took all her money out of the bank to leave by bus out of town. As Barney run inside, our MYSTERY MAN is exiting the courthouse.Barney has a brief encounter with him.If hes old short somewhat chunky with gray hair (Schwamp style) this proves he did get almost run over. Were getting closer now . Thanks Albert.I hope someone can confirm your findings asap. Thanks for comments on the Garden Club--Stunt Doubles
Thanks Ladies for the comments on the way the ladies dressed for Garden Club. They were very insightful and good explanations. Ken, after all that so- so advice for your anniversary, you might want to invest in a bottle of Blue Moonlight. Or go out to a fancy dinner with a violin player. And Don't forget to tip him a quarter. I was just reading Mayberry 101 because I hadn't picked it up in a while, and I was surprised to find out that they had a stunt man for Mr. McBeeVee to do the Pole/Tree climbing up and down. Any other stunt doubles anyone knows about? I assume Bernard Malcolm Meriweather rode his own bike. Did Howard Ernest T do his own Chin-ups We know that Aunt Bee had a stunt double who pushed Barney's Car and a stunt driver who drove the car when she learned to drive. I believe she also had a hand model when she held the baseball pictures...and a waste model when she revealed the badge in the Christmas episode...but that's a different topic. I'm not sure Barney ever had a stunt Double. How could they find someone with his build? It's a wonder they did not have someone for Floyd after his stroke, but most of his shots were face-on so there may have been no opportunities. What about Goober when we wrestled Clarence Earp? Many dangerous action scenes were implied and we never actually saw. Opie Fighting, Andy Wrangling the Gordon Boys. Barney fell once but we just see him on the ground. We know that Otis did his own falls when he missed the bed, but we didn't see him fall when he sued the county, The Untrained Voice, Looking for a good lip syncing double ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Thanks Vic and We Were Wrong about Aunt Bee's Medicine Man
The dvd set of season two of TAGS arrived today plus some extras on other episodes. Many thanks and Thanks Bob for the book on Doo Wop. But sadly when i make a boo boo i admit it. Vic I saw Medicine Man moments ago off one of the discs and i looked for our friend, Man of Mystery who we saw from other episodes like the man looking at Andy's check in the courthouse. Well Vic I played the scene in Medicone Man and in the crowd with AuntBee was not HIM but Danny Thomas brother, with the hat on directly by Aunt Bee. A moment later Barney and Andy pull up to question the Col. while he's selling his elixir now to two older men but neither i repeat neither is the MAN OF MYSTERY. We goofed on this one. ill go back to the drawing boards with my first dvd set of TAGS and try to hunt down more sightings of our MAN of Mystery but Im sure now he was only in color episodes. lastly I noticed on on the dvds you sent, the first i ever saw of TAGS ever on dvd, that the music for opening and ending credits is slightly different. it has a more homey touch and slower tempo more in tune with the laid back lifestyle of our beloved Mayberry. All these years Ive seen TAGS on televsion, i see now it must had been like other tv series, the syndicated version of repackaged music credits. Such is the case of the classic 39 of the Honeymooners. I see on dvd the credits and music is slightly different than the packlage that was later released for syndications. im very impressed now to see at last the real original MUSICAL SCORE for the TAGS. Now Ill check Aunt Bee the Warden for that classic musical piece as Otis climbs down the ladder.I never heard this brilliant piece of music ever used again in any other episode. Get to it. Thanks to ALL that liked the radio clip!!!!
Just wanted to say a BIG THANKS for the positive response I got for posting the Paul Harvey Rest Of The Story about Andy on here!!! Really made me feel good that it was liked!! While here I might as well post some Mayberry trival trivality I saw just an hour or so ago on TV!!... Was watching the 1943 Hitchcock movie Shadow Of a Doubt (where Joseph Cotton is an on the loose killer) and two detectives show up to investigat him in the town he's in...on of 'em was none other than a young Wallace Ford ( Roger Hanover, Aunt Bee's beau that was always telling those stale jokes...talked all the time!! Kind a pushy sort of fellow...very..pushy)!! The irony was...they were questioning the one daughter in the family about her uncle (Joseph Cotton). I bet if Roger had married Aunt Bee...there would have been some investigation about Andy's new Uncle! Should also mention that if you see any of the early Universal Mummy pictues (The Mummy's Tomb..The Mummy's Hand) ,the young comical sidekick to the main male good guy was the same, and VERY young Wallace Ford!! that's goodbye in Spanish...also carobolic acid...that's goodbye in any language!!.. Thanks, Tom Baker for sharing Paul Harvey's Rest of the Story feature on Andy and Mayberry. For me, listening to Paul Harvey ranks right up there with watching Andy re-runs. Thanks for the Don Knott's tributes and other thoughts
Thanks to those of you who have remembered the greatest character Actor that there ever was, Don Knotts. It doesn't seem possible he's been gone two years. Speaking of Radio broadcasts, two Cheers for Two Chair No Waiting, the Mayberry Podcast. I enjoyed hearing Bernard Fox last week. What A Gentleman he was in that interview, despite a certain interloper. I'm also kinda partial to episode 17, but I guess that the egomenerac in me. After hearing from Bernard (Malcolm) I flipped the TV over to bewitched last night to see if Dr. Bombay showed up and there was Darren's Parents. Do you know who they were? None other than that stodgy Magazine Publisher that tried to bring Andy down (Mr. Jackson?) and Howard's Mother!! So that would make Darren Howard's brother Figure??? Confusing when those actors get around. One more thought, speaking of fibs..even Aunt Bee was known to throw out the white lies. In the episode the Opie published his paper she lied about just passing by twice and about how good the Chicken Ala king was. Thanks Sarah Etc.
Thanks Janet, Mike and all for your comments on my Sarah and Juanita pictures for Ken's PowerPoint. You nailed it Janet, that was our own Andy Griffith with The Waitress'. As for Sarah, Mike (Soak it, Sarah, Soak it) that was just one day or two that she had to apply Andy's therapy. You don't really see her with a pinch or snuff either (which Ed Sawyer knew about) but that just means when that picture was taken, she was in normal mode. I stand by my identification of our long lost operator. :-) I like the baseball line-up also. I would add Sam Jones and his son Mike. They did all that warming up, every time Mayberry RFD came on. And for a ringer, how about Helen's niece who could out-run and out-jump and out-catch Opie. There's no interference in Baseball right? (well yeah I guess there is) I think I'd pitch Howard Sprague. He throws a lot of strikes. Also Lydia Crosswaite is good at playing the field if you can keep her off the injured list. (When her back goes out though she gives that hang-dog look. I'm not sure I would let Goober bat. He knows a lot about coaching but he's pretty inexperience getting to first base, if you know what I mean. Floyd would be good for lots of chatter, and making sure no one steals home (his home)..but don't let his boy out in the field. Will someone explain to Aunt Bee that a Bunt has nothing to do with a small cake. (at least she holds the right end of the bat now) . Ernest T keeps stealing the bases and running off...he doesn't quite get the concept. I like to user Miracle Salve on my Squeaky Garage Door. I tried it on my Dog, but it made him itch even more. Allan: Thanks for setting us straight and your control of the board. We're coming up on out 16th anniversary of this board, and although there have been other elections, the input hasn't been to this degree in the past. While we all have those opinions, this is not the place to voice them. I agree, and thanks, Allan. While I do have very strong opinions on the election, I much prefer to keep this list away from political commentary. I don't mind someone pointing out that the actors did the videos in support of their candidate, because some of us may like to watch it, but the real world is hard enough without letting it into our Mayberry. Thanks Janet and one more TAGS actor I Knew
as i find myself tapering off discussing too much character actors aand not enough TAGS at times, i want to finish up here on these actors. Yes Janet, Billy DeWolf was a lovely man, he was in the hospital dying ( I didnt know this)-in 1974. he was a dear man. he seemed a novelty act to most fello1w actors, truly one of a kind but talented bristling with fun , carefree and a joy. Doris Day and him who made several films together were very close. she made sure he had a recurring role on her tv series 1968-73. He performed with TAGS alumni Ronnie Schell in 1967 nin the critically acclaimed but diastrous series Good Morning World.Because Billy as we all know was somewhat different than most , he was looked upon as an oddity but to us fans he was brilliant. its a darn shame he did few films and nit much television til he came into his own on talk and variety shows in the 60s. Blue Skies was my favorite of his films. he was a favorite on the talk show circuit. Thank you Gritton Joe for correcting me on Robert Emhardt aka Mr Tucker Mr Foster shouting at Barney to do what he says he's going to do. it was good to see Tom Jacobs on (I wont say it) last night in Goober Takes a Car Apart .And another alumni who did a bit part in If i Had a Quater Million was Hank Patterson aka Fred Ziffel from Green Acres. I heard stories galore that this late blooming character actor (who seemed to be born old) wasca problem on the set of GA in the sense his memory was going but very bad by this time. He was all over the tube in the 60s including a role on Gunsmoke but he'll always be Fred Ziffel to us TAGS fans. Yes he was forgetful with his lines and yes he was terribly deaf by this time but his letters never indicated he had any acting problems. His humor was evident in one letter saying to me in 1971 (WEll they cancelled GA but i can always rely on Gunsmoke). He died 1975 the year Gunsmoke was cancelled. Did anyone know that in 2006 at age 93 Jack Smith of Aunt Bee on Tv passed away? With obituaries from 1965-present ive collected on a daily basis of celebrities in every field, i must be getting senile before my time if i didnt see his obituary in either NY Times or Variety. I get the the papers every day and Variety once a week for 43 yrs non stop. but i guess im entitled to miss a death . i still got a good tracking record. Its odd he is remembered as the host of You asked For It when he more or less recreated that part to a degree on TAGS. its ironic he only did the show for one season, its last 1958-59 when in fact the first host creator was the forgotton Art Baker 1950-58. he died 1966. ANd whos still alive and holding his own at 88 god bless him is Sid Melton , He was Alf in Green Acres and had a running role as Charlie Halper on the Danny Thomas Show for 6 years. oddly he never appeared on TAGS and isnt that strange seeing he had a tie in with Griffith Leonard-Thomas producing teams of the 60s. He was in Petticoat Junction , Gomer Pyle (Friendley Freddie the con artist) That Girl and others. This is one character actor i never contacted. i must be slipping up. hes a dear sweet man from what ive heard over the years. Ive known many character actors but many more had no part with the TAGS. THats sad but we treasure their film and tv appearences all the more. Someones got to speak up for them. And in bringing an end to this is as i sit here and reflect on observations made to me by these performers from the comfort of their living room by phone or in letter, i like it when i recall Robert Emhardt aka Mr Tucker Mr Foster saying to me You like that hah? in reference to the muff line from Man in a Hurray Gritton Joe so kindly corrected me on,how many times have we heard someone say that line to all of us? its a reassurance some what a confirmation the need they heard right when they say You like that hah years ago it didnt have the impact it has now with us TAGS fansLike i said , actor like it when you go out of your way to recite lines, spoken dialogue that sticks in ones memory for life. I can almost envision the smile on this actors face when he poised that question. its his way of knowing he left us with a memorable line or a unforgettable scene or both. He thanked me. But i had the sense to pick up quickly with my standard No thank you Mr. Emhardt . No good character supporting actor wants to be forgotton. as long as we TAGS fans are around for generations yet to come these superb actors will never ever be forgotton. and with that God Bless all. its back to chatting with Col. Thanks for resending Mr. Kessel's post. I was really confused and kept going back to see what I had missed. What I didn't notice is that Number 270 was missing. I was starting to worry about myself getting a bit tetched in the head. Thanks for pointing out the missing digest, Aunt Bee. And thanks again, Joe Gritton, for reposting Mr. Kessel's observations. I'm still fixated on Wallace Ford in Harvey. I haven't had a chance to watch the two shows yet. I'm trying to remember when Harvey was filmed and when Aunt Bee's Romance was filmed to see how old Mr. Ford was in each one. If there was a few years difference, maybe that's why I didn't recognize him. Or maybe I'm just not a trained noticer and should drop out of trained noticing school. Mr. Kessel's account of Burt Mustin being so grateful for being remembered and so anxious to not be forgotten brought tears to my eyes. Thank you, Mr. Kessel, for giving us a glimpse of the real personalities behind the characters we loved. Hey little Buddy. now where have we fans heard that?Gilligans Island? not really. Jeff Pruitt from Farmer Takes A Wife said it in 1962. i had it on tape in pre vcr dvd player days on audio off my tape recorder 600 tv shows and movies. HE was so kind. he took a vital interest in myself as well asking about me my interests my hobbies. but Im selfish. With pen and paper in hand I was more interested him. Like hearing Alans grave concern that his series Casey Jones in 57 was a flop. it went syndication.he felt had a network picked it up itd be on alot longer. He was embarrassed when i had to say what hes been told to his dying day in 1990m that he was spitting image of his beloved father Alan Sr.He adored Jimmy Cagney. Yes he was proud of Gilligans Island i cant deny it but privately he said he liked it when fans remembered him from other credits and i went down the list.I wish I could send off the photo i took of him posing, hands outstretched as if to say Hello Little Buddy. He said naturally as i asked many other perfortmers about more detailed tidbits of production side, the making of a movie or tv show his love for his father and what love. But i dont think people would be interested in the every day running of a shooting schedule. But there are interesting sidelights. Tina Louise could be difficult. He worshipped Sherwood Schwartz . He sat down 30 minutes at my table. naturally he's got other patrons to visit.he'd go table to table and chat a few minutes. im not special.he gave me 3o wonderful minutes because i had been writing him for 3 years. But what a dear sweet man. They all were. Fritz Feld the wonderful character actor in fims and tv the actor comedian remembered for popping his mouth to our delight in 1972 told me he made 300 films.he loved them all. he said id be on Tonight Show in a few weeks. ill wave to you on the show and do a pop for you. What do you think. sure enough i watched and he said hello Tom. and he did his POP for all. I thought that was so kind.he lived to be 95. His wife Virgina Christine the actress Mrs Olson from coffee comericals told me til the commedrcials came to being fans knew her for only one role. the filthy muddy role in The Mummys Curse in 1945. But she wasnt ashame of it. I knew Fritz from Phantom of the Opera 1943 and i praised him highly on that role. Hope Summers told me in 1975 her admiration for Andy Griffith telling me he had his hand in every facett of the show from conception in 1960 to 1968 the final show. She loved her role as Clara Edwards ,a role like George Cisar and Vincent Barnett and Frances Bavier rolled into Mayberry RFD. the full credit to TAGS was Andy Griffith she said.He had every reason to be proud. He watched over every bit of film she was good friends with James Weathersfield, our beloved Uncle Ollie from Family Visit 1964. She worked with him before in what she termed was the stramgest role of her career, in 1961s Homicidal a sleeper of a ffilm. they were husband and wife. Folks dont ask what happened to Uncle Ollie in this movie. You have to see it to believe it. And get all thoughts of Uncle Ollie out of your head when you see him.Regarding Frances Bavier all I can add and I was wise not to touch upon it in phonecalls to her was Andy Griffith. She preferred never to discuss him nor the co stars but she enjoyed her role and she adored Anita Corsaut as we all did. I did Andy on a show some years ago state she did call him to apologize for the poor relationship they had during the run of the show .This was in her last days this call. Andy ever the gentleman asked if he could see her but due to her health she declined. he offered any help he could but she kindly refused. in her defence because i knew her i have to say shes from the old school. . the younger generation of actors from this classic were not on the same plane as her. Where some may think of her as rude and thoughtless i saw as reserved and protective. Once you won her over she took you into her confidence. I knew so much about her career, i sense that might be why she and others felt if i take that much time out for them they can in return respond in kind.Thats it for today until next time i can offer any benefitical insight. thanks from Col Tims friend Tom Kessel ps the typing is better this time.im slowly learning. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
RE: thanks Joe and Janet and Robert ...
... Alan Hale...appreciated it when people complimented him on other roles be it stage film or tv than just the obvious such as Gilligans Island... -- Tom, much thanks for the first-hand insights. One of my favorite Alan Hale roles was in Thunder in Carolina which had to do with early NASCAR/stock car racing. As a Carolina boy myself, I appreciate that ol' Jeff Pruitt had some of the same ties. I always wondered if they couldn't have made that car go even faster with Goober's help. If he can make a boat go 80 on water...that's fast! Don Good (speed, speed, speed) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Allan, Thank you for getting the digest back up. Not being very electronal myself, I can't imagine what you have gone through. Just know that we out here in ciberville sure do love you and appreciate what you do. Reading the digest is therapetic and feels like I've laid my head on someones shoulder and cried all over it. Thanks and Bait
Thanks Allan, you at least have gotten the problem fixed for me. I got the digest for the first time in at least a month. As to Andy and Opie's bait. They may have been like my wife's late Uncle Junior. He hated fishing with artifical bait, preferred minnows. The government owned lake he liked to fish in near his house didn't allow live bait to be used. Uncle Junior used to fill a sandwich bag with water and minnows and keep it in his pocket and sneak the minnows out and put them on his hook. One year for his birthday, my wife gave him a big box of sandwich bags with Junior's Tackle Box printed on the side. Uncle Junior was a real character, about Barney's size and Gomer and Goober's personality. - Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. re: thanks and a question
where I went to private school they grouped us according to our grades and ability. we had 2 1st grade classes, 2 2nd grade classes ect. so that might be the referance that was made in that show. Hope this helps. Thanks and a question
Thank you for the link to that delightful story on Betty Lynn; just confirms what we've known all along! Now a question: when Andy mentions being in the lower fifth grade and his sweetheart being in the upper, I am not familiar with this concept at all. Can anyone out there enlighten me? Was it to divide up the two different ages or what? I've never heard of this anywhere else but on TAGS. I do remember that in seventh grade in Calif I went to what was called half-day sessions as the school was so crowded. I went from 12:05 till 4:30 and the classes were less than an hour but I never felt short-changed; I actually have fond memories of that year when I first took a music course along with art appreciation. Thank you Sharon for telling us about American Life. I never heard of it so I checked out their site and found a lot to like. I emailed my cable carrier and urged them to consider it. Like you, I am dismayed at TVLand's decision to add tacky programs like Just Shoot Me. I thought their mission was to appeal to the Baby Boomer Generation of folks like us who like decent programming but I guess not. At least they still air our beloved hometown often!
