As far as the alignment tone, I'm not sure. I thought they fixed that
for 13.4.1. Am I remembering that the tone uses the AP BER or beacons
frames? Maybe there's something going on there. I would try 14.1.2 on a
430 and see if it works.

I have been wondering what happens if I do auto update via an AP with

The update has to be done over the air thru SMs auto update

Thru auto update from the AP over the air 430 SMs can and
should be brought up to whatever firmware the AP is using.

If you need to connect the 430SM back to a 430 AP you'll
need to manually downgrade the SM to 13.4.1 tho.

It's in all the 14.x release notes.

2016-10-19 Thread George Skorup
Yeah, CNUT, the various releases, upgrade paths, etc. is a pain and can
be confusing.

So you have 430 and 450 APs deployed. The only package added to or
enabled in your package list is say 14.1.2. If you enable auto-update on
the 430 APs, it should say no packages available. If you have 13.4.1
OFDM in the list and enable auto-update on the 430 APs, then *all* SMs
will be sent the 13.4.1 image. If you have some 430 SMs on 14.1.2, then
they'll downgrade. And if you have SMs on 12.1, then they'll upgrade. If
you have some SMs on 11.2, then they will fail to update since they need
12.1 first. And 13.4.1 doesn't exist for 450, only 13.4. So you have the
14.1.2 PXP45X package in the list and enabled. CNUT knows the 430 AP
can't use that package. But it is valid for 450/450i APs and all SMs.
Nuckin futs indeed.

I remember your whole dilemma with having a mix of 430 SMs on various
builds. Using auto-update would force you to use 12.1 to get the 11.2's
up to that, but then you also had some 13.4 or 13.4.1's out there which
would then get downgraded to 12.1. The easiest workaround for that is to
manually add the 11.2 SMs in CNUT and update them to 12.1, then enable
auto-update using 13.4.1 to update the entire sector. But I also recall
that you needed to update the APs to 13.4.1 too.

This would probably get even crazier on a 450 sector with 430 interop
SMs in the mix. But you should have no problem auto-updating to 14.1.2
if you have your 430 SMs on 13.4.1 already. 14.2.1 is what kills 430
mode on a 430 SM. After updating, the interop setting goes away and it
only talks to a 450 or 450i AP. Since you have the 430 APs out of the
picture, I think you'll be perfectly fine with 14.1.2 which still has
430 mode if you need it for some reason. The nice thing with the 450i
though is you have legacy mode. If you have SMs out there behind the
times, enable that, get them updated and then turn it back off since it
reduces throughput a bit.

Anyway...

Here's a 430 SM after updating from 13.4.1 to 14.1.2 on the bench:

And here it is after updating to 14.2.1:

And 15.0.0.1:

Squirrel hair is a chump and a loser. He can not stay on message to save his
life. I watched the synopsis of the "debate" on PBS tonight, and to a man,
woman, whoever, they were pretty much all unanimous that the person with the
squirrel on his head lost the debate, and probably the election big time.
Guesstimates are that HRC will win this election by a bigger margin than Obama
did last time.

We haven't seen the last of the man wearing the squirrel hat, but he's not

The first time I ignored it.

The second time I did a double take and though "did he really just call the
President of the United States a MUTT?"!?

As an American citizen, I'm ashamed of that and I didn't even say it. As a
combat veteran, that was my Commander-In-Chief - saying that in uniform,
regardless of the man or woman in office would get you court martialed and
kicked out of the military with a dishonorable discharge... Forever ruining
you chances at decent employment, amongst many other things.

Like him or not, shame on you. That's as unAmerican a phrase as I can think
of, and lacks basic human decency.

OK, that makes sense, especially about 13.4.1 being the end of the line for FSK
and 430 AP.

I’ll have to try that on the bench. I hate over-the-air experiments that might
result in truck rolls and pissed off customers.

I have been wondering what happens if I do auto update via an AP with a mix of
430 and 450 APs, I don’t think there’s a way to specify do one and not the
other, unless it runs into no applicable update.

Thru auto update from the AP over the air 430 SMs can and should be brought up
to whatever firmware the AP is using.

If you need to connect the 430SM back to a 430 AP you'll need to manually
downgrade the SM to 13.4.1 tho.

OK, I’ll dig some more. I do have to say to Cambium, why do you make important
things so confusing? Part of the fault may be on the part of the confusee not
the confuser. But the same thing happened to me on auto update via the AP if
you have the IP address on the SM configured as “Public”, for years the user
guide had me convinced that did not work so I never even tried it.

Can anyone answer whether audible alignment is broken with 13.4.1? I’m
thinking it is, but I thought they fixed that bug before 13.4.1.

Re: [AFMUG] Cambium 13.4.1 on PMP430 and alignment tone

2016-10-19 Thread Sean Heskett
There isn't a .pkg file for OFDM 430 after 13.4.1

Also it's somewhere in the release notes or user manual but it's been a
while since I've read them and I don't remember which version started
talking about it. It could have been in some of the beta release notes
because we beta tested most of the 14.x builds. Check the forums too
because it might have been discussed there as well. I'm to old to remember
haha.

OK, that provides some clarity but also more confusion. Not sure I’m looking
at the same document as you, I see Introduction on page 5.

But in the 14.1.2 release notes, I see nothing about 430 at all.

In the 14.2.1 release notes, I do see a Note that 430 SMs must first go to
14.1.2 before 14.2.1, and a Note they will no longer be able to talk to a 430
AP. I am not seeing anything about having to do the upgrade over the air
(which is really strange IMHO). Are you seeing this explicitly stated in the
release notes, or inferring it from the fact that 13.4.1 is that last download
listed on the website for 430?

Software release notes for 14.2.1 in the introduction on page 3 gives the best
description. (I think it's on or near the same page with the other releases but
I'm on my phone so it's hard to scan thru them all)

The update has to be done over the air thru SMs auto update tho. You can't
upgrade a 430 SM on the bench past 13.4.1.

We gained a lot of stability with 14.1.2 and it would be nice if we could bring
the 430 SMs up to that. I’m not so sure about 14.2.1, and 15.0 seems to be
mostly to support 450m.

Thru auto update from the AP over the air 430 SMs can and should be brought up
to whatever firmware the AP is using.

If you need to connect the 430SM back to a 430 AP you'll need to manually
downgrade the SM to 13.4.1 tho.

It's in all the 14.x release notes.

I remember some FW release broke alignment tone on the 450 SMs and so we waited

fixed it.

Software release notes for 14.2.1 in the introduction on page 3 gives the
best description. (I think it's on or near the same page with the other
releases but I'm on my phone so it's hard to scan thru them all)

The update has to be done over the air thru SMs auto update tho. You can't
upgrade a 430 SM on the bench past 13.4.1.

2016-10-19 Thread George Skorup
14.x works on 430 SMs in interop mode only. Like Sean said, if you want
them to talk to a 430 AP again, they'll have to be downgraded to 13.4.1
manually. But if all of your 430 APs are now out of the picture, who cares.

Yes, 15.0 is for the 450m, but it's also required for 450 and 450i SMs
to talk to a 450m AP. The release notes say that 15.0.0.1 is
functionally equivalent to 14.2.1 on 450 and 450i.

We're at 14.1.2 on 450 and 450i for now. It definitely feels more stable
than 13.2.1. Like I said before, features are nice, but I need
stability. Maybe I should bite the bullet and go to 14.2.1/15.0.0.1, but
I know I had problems with new SMs out of the box on 13.2.1 talking to
14.2.x APs. Which I can't have since I'm sure there's like 30 SMs in
trucks that I don't know about. Maybe every quarter I should tell the
guys to empty their trucks so I can load the latest software. No,
they'll forget about the ones they have stashed away.

Lease is a straight expense on the books and you get new equipment every few
years - but there are significant upfit costs that you lose each time you
exchange the van. Sure they can be built into the lease - but your still
paying for it.

If you buy you would normally depreciate but IRS Section 179 lets you expense
the entire thing if you want to. Sometimes that just means you are kicking
the tax can down the road.

I usually finance them over 48 months and figure approximately 40k with upfit.
The last couple have been closer to 45k all in. The oldest ones (the
Sprinters) are about 7 years old now and were expensed and paid for long ago.
Anything we get out of them now is just a bonus. I prefer newer equipment for
the trucks as it’s a significant expense and hassle when one breaks down and we
have to reschedule work and/or have someone sitting around without a vehicle.
The PR value of having decent looking equipment with good graphics and the
ability to carry all of the assorted equipment to do the job in one truck roll
is worth the extra expense.

[AFMUG] Cambium 13.4.1 on PMP430 and alignment tone

2016-10-19 Thread Ken Hohhof
We have changed out all our 430 Aps for 450i, but still have a bunch of 430
SMs running in 450 compatibility mode. My techs keep telling me when they
do service calls, that alignment tone is broken on those SMs. The first
time I figured bad hardware since some roofers had bonked the dish, but as
it keeps happening, I'm realizing it must be the firmware.

I remember some FW release broke alignment tone on the 450 SMs and so we
waited until the fixed it. I don't remember which release broke it and
which release fixed it.

But the release notes tell you that for compatibility with 450i you should
have 430 SMs on 13.4.1, plus I think that's the end of the line for 430,
right? We can't go to 14.1.2 which is what we have on all our 450 stuff.

Does anyone know if in fact alignment tone is non functional on a 430 SM
with 13.4.1?

Once upon a time, we had tribes.

They lived together, believed in the same things, had the same
language, same problems, etc. Same ethnic, religious, geographic ties. And
 so on..

We still have tribes now, but the individuals in these tribes might be
 separated geographically by vast differences.

We also have the media, which is a megaphone for issues important to
the tribes - well at least the biggest two, everything else is marginalized
and discredited and looked down upon. It gets even worse once you're on the
 internet.

Critical thinking is gone. Fact checking is too time consuming for the
masses. Facts themselves are too easy to hide or distort. There is as much
disinformation as there is information, and its intentional to continue to
 perpetuate the system.

I just want a small island with a temperate climate to raise my
mini-tribe. The rest of you can fuck off ;)

Native American Indians did it right, mostly. I wouldn't mind going
back to that at this point. Enjoying nature. Enjoying family. Spending
quality time. The only work to do is the work that has to get done. I'll
figure out spears, I'm okay with bows and good with fire. No more rat race,
no twitter, no CNN/fox, just kicking it with my fam enjoying flying through
the cosmos as insane speeds on this ball of space dust.

Maybe because it is being left around by the folks hired by the State Dept. to
make it look so..

Contrary to popular belief, prayer rugs are not a requirement for a Muslim to
be able to perform his or her prayers :)
But those 'mats' 'rugs' 'sheepskins' do make for a multi purpose light rug
kind of like what the Cowboys carried with them in the Western Movies, rolled
up on back side of their saddle...typically used as a sleeping mattress or as a
pad between the horseback and the saddle.

NOT looking to skirt the system

I got the ok to use some labor for project work as i need it. Like the other
day when i brought my dad.

What are the actual rules, we arent looking to cash money under the table, but
these arent going to be full, or even part time employees, over 600 bucks
theyll 1099 but should that just be done anyway?

I have a few different people I will use, and probably not more than a couple
days a week

For the most part these people will be tying stuff to ropes and watching spools
stands

Once upon a time, we had tribes.

They lived together, believed in the same things, had the same
language, same problems, etc. Same ethnic, religious, geographic ties.
And so on..

We still have tribes now, but the individuals in these tribes might be
separated geographically by vast differences.

We also have the media, which is a megaphone for issues important to
the tribes - well at least the biggest two, everything else is
marginalized and discredited and looked down upon. It gets even worse

Even Cisco gear for some time now has had USB console ports.

Even easier to COY and send one regardless. Especially if you’re talking about
a few people.

In past jobs if I needed temp labor I used temp labor agencies so I didn’t have
to worry about anything. Yes you pay more, but there is no paperwork or legal
headache to worry about.

Sounds like software bug - roll a ticket with IBM and ask them … make sure
latest recommended software is on switch (typically) which according to what I
can see is 7.7.5.0 from 2013

Order a few generics and maybe 1 or 2 "IBM compatible" optics from
fiberstore and give it a shot. Short of that, maybe there's a way to modify
this behavior? That's a really poor design choice if not.

[AFMUG] 1G/10G switch won't negotiate 1g on sfp

2016-10-19 Thread TJ Trout
I have a newly deployed ibm g8124 switch and all of the ports auto default
to auto negotiation if the port flaps, I have several 1G copper sfp, and
several 10G DAC/SFP that always work flawlessly but i have one single 1G
sfp that won't come up unless I manually disable auto negotiation then it
comes up fine until the next time the link goes down, is this something
that would likely be fixed buy firmware update or should I try another
model SFP?
