Thanks to Thomas Heirnrich, who I ran into at Lamar Woods this morning where
he was birding with his brother, who told me that there was a singing Hooded
Warbler and singing Red-eyed Vireo at Temple Grove north of Lamar earlier I
changed my plans (I had already lost what I believe was the
A group of a ten birders had a fun-filled journey back to Denver from the
superb CFO convention in Grand Junction.
The weather was ideal, and there was good birding on the route, with stops
along the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon,
the birdy rest area in Eagle, and Summit County feeders

Hi all,
I've been chomping at the bit to bird but alas it hasn't happened. BUT I have
had a few nice things drop by my yard. Yesterday a black headed grosbeak came
in for a short visit. I have had a bullock's oriole (female) peaking in my
window and a number of yellow warblers flitting
Hi All,
On our return trip from the CFO convention in Grand Junction, we took Clear
Creek Canyon (Highway 6) from I-70 to Golden. At a random pull-off (This
habitat looks okay, let's take a quick look...), our visiting birders from
North Carolina, Ali Iyoob and Matt Daw, get out of the car and
I have to disagree with Joe's nirvana like representation of the residents
of Georgetown. As I walked between the creek and a garage before getting to
the No Trespassing sign, the lady in Nana's gift shop yelled in a none too
friendly manner, to get off her property. I didn't know I was on her
Coen asked that this message be forwarded to CoBirds
for those interested in owls.
Greetings,
Brenda and I lead five cars of owlers up to Jack's Cyn. In route a large
black cloud was threating to the west but we hardly got a drop. The wind
went down to only a light breeze. The lights of Grand
Hi Cobirders, The Rufous thread has come full circle. Time to meet
the eye of the needle and sew it up!
Many on the way to the CFO convention and on way home stopped in
Georgetown. My son Bob,his wife Sondra
and I stopped Friday they saw it well but my binoculars and the busy

Amazingly punctual, those birds. Just heard a red-eyed vireo singing
outside. Last year had one on this exact same date. I bet it was heading for
Pella Ponds, which is the next place I'll hear/see one.

Today after some field work I stopped at Crow Valley to bird a bit.
Right as I was pulling in there was a Loggerhead Shrike on the fence

Hello CO birders. An odd sighting for the West Slope I'm pretty
sure. Yesterday morning I has a pair of Lark Buntings fly into my
point count area along Long Gulch just south east of Gunnison. Access
to the area which is BLM land is by dirt road approx. 4 mi. east of
Gunnison, left before
Hello, Birders.
I've been picking up on COBirds, on eBird, and in real conversations with
live birders a flurry of recent reports of Red-necked Phalaropes--unusually
high numbers as well as unusual locations for the species. Well, Hannah and I
got in on the action during the drive back from
This morning, while searching in the early morning rain (yeah!) for the
Chestnut-sided Warbler (not refound) at Bear Creek nature Center,
I saw a Spotted Towhee singing with a band on his right leg.
We have done banding demos on occaision at BCNC and we band on the right leg

Cobirds:
There is a visible nothern waterthrush singing from
cottonwood trees at the end of the boardwarlk at Walden Ponds
Boulder. Follow the boardwalk to the end where the marsh wrens are
singing.
There is also a singing ovenbird above the Gregory
Canyon parking lot
Quite a few unusual species were reported around Lake Estes yesterday and
today. Probably the most unusual was a Red-necked Phalarope. We first
spotted this bird near the Big Thompson inlet yesterday afternoon and it
was still being seen at several locations along the north shoreline today.
On a cool, cloudy morning today Jeanne and I went to the Turkey Creek
Recreation Area on Fort Carson to see what might greet us on the Aiken Audubon
field trip that we will lead on June 6th. (See below for details.)
The whole area was very birdy this morning. Highlights included:

Yesterday I spotted a single Whimbrel at San Luis Lake State Park (Alamosa
County). It was feeding on the west side of the lake, just north of the boat
ramp. Today, a single Black-throated Sparow was at the Monte Vista Refuge (Rio
Grande County) on the 7 South and 2 E.

Hey all!
Just had a juvenile male Summer Tanager outside my house in Fort
Collins. This is a Colorado first for me. I took some terrible video
of the thing which shows how unsteady I am. But you can hear him
calling in the background! He flew off toward the Spring Creek
Trail. Which is just

A singing Wood Thrush serenaded this morning 630-645AM in Meadowcreek
Subdivision, Colorado City, SW Pueblo County. It sang along Greenhorn Creek

Parkway Ave south from CSH165. Park on S. Parkway at the swimming pool
We and the Tuesday Birders had a fun if wet day. We caught about 40 birds
before the thunder, lightning and rain started about 9 a.m. We ran around,
pulled the nets closed, and then all huddled under our canopy and looked at
birds! Highlights were male and female Western Tanagers and
Along with some visiting Goldfinches I have had a male Rufous Crowned Sparrow

Josh, Summer Tanager is very rare indeed in Larimer County. In my 14 years
living in Fort Collins, I have seen two Summer Tanagers in Larimer County,
during spring migration in both cases. This year seems to be a good year for
them throughout Colorado, so folks should be looking for them, or
On 21 May 2011, Cole Wild and I birded from Denver to Grand Junction along I70,
camped overnight near the Utah border at Rabbit Valley campground. Then on 22
May 2011, we birded our way back to Larimer County via Rifle, Meeker, Craig,
Steamboat Springs and Walden. Highlights follow:
