If you get an external server , get one that can transcode (x86 cpu ) . The native ALAC support is a bit flaky the transcoded is more robust , as it is disabled by default in most server versions excepts when we dont have any other options , on the Touch itself or similar cpu challenged platforms

Did you try a wired player (not wifi ) ? 16vs 24bit flac ,the difference can be natural as the s/n ratio of most recordings are not that great ,then the lowest bit are all pure stochastic noise in 24bit material hence it will not compress very much .

The xilinx reset is tabout the audio fpga chip mostly it reloads the software for this chip . It may not apply to your situation ,but it is usually worth a try when a SB behaves weird ? But that usually is a no audio situation. Maybe a factory reset is the way , but it won't hurt the device to do

Flac and Ethernet conected is your best bet and you have to use Triodes EDO to get it out of the player ( Touch ) on the digital out( analog out not possible ). If younhave an unmodified Touch the server is downsampling 24/192 to 24/96 .

I think we should try to accumulate as much knowledge as possible :) Others have tried with Touch and Radio none with the duet, I just could not find my receiver I sort of know where it might be , it will resurface when I move to another apartment shortly .

Spotify use triodes spotify plugin for the LMS server ,but configure it to show up in the radios menu instead of apps . This should work even today, drat ! That I did not took the opportunity to try when mysb.com was down.

To rule out an wifi issue ( which is most likely here as higher bitrate stuff buffers and dropout ) try a player via Ethernet ,don't forget to redo the networks settings plugin in the cable does do this automatically . I assume that vb is wired to router ,with that many players ? Now try it .
