I have an accounting app from the early 90s. I first ran it under DRDOS
and then FreeDOS for about a decade. I have looked at many other
accounting apps but have not found anything that works better for me.
The primary functions have always worked well. However, a couple
a Win laptop sitting at my elbow.
So I am just hopping to keep the current stuff running.

days but have had no luck.
Running FreeDOS in a QEMU-based VM, on a Xen hypervisor (it's actually
the Qubes OS)
I managed to get it all installed and it runs well except for one

lieve delete, don't actually move or delete files,
it just rewrites the table, so it is instant.
I am keeping accounting and word processing on DOS so I don't have to
work with a GUI. It is fast, stable, and the files are smaller.

root, now it is in FDOS\BIN. If I run SYS C: from a 1.1 Floppy, then
copy 1.2 KRNEL386, as KERNEL, over the 1.1 KERNEL, should that leave me
with the 1.2 kernel where it belongs on the drive?

No, it is just a shell. I don't use it any more but I still have the
batch file to run it. In one of my older machines it was run from
autoexec.bat. The line is still there but remed.

I moved from MSDOS to DRDOS when V6 came out and never used MSD
a bit of a jump, but if you will settle for 32 bit - for now -

eCommStation. You have your choice of Cmd line or GUI interface.

Norton Disk Doctor from W2K says C: is OK.
FreeDOS chkdsk c: produces a 40K file. All entries are: file has an
invalid size.
The only chkdsk bug I find is 1954.
The problem stated in 1954 does not appear here.

DRDOS has a boot selector that will select it or one version of W9X. I
am surprised if FREEDOS doesn't have such a thing.

It has worked well since. I now moved the HDD to new hardware. If I
select boot 1 or 2, fdconfig.sys gets about to the end and cannot find
command.com. However, the floppy with the same fdconfig.sys boots OK.

I just got a replacement laptop.
I have a 1.0 CD and a 1G, USB, thumb drive that brings up what looks
like the same menu as the CD. Both try to load XCDROM and report "No
CD-ROM to use". Of course the CD had to use the CD drive to get to that
point.
