It is somewhat adictive isn't it. I woke this morning to over 1000 fuel again so I'm happy with that!!! So now am going to feed my dog and then it's trade missions for a good while I think with the odd passenger one I think. Hi Hayri, You'll just have to wait and see. At this point I can't really say what every level will be like at this point as I'm still in the process of creating them. Even if I knew I wouldn't tell as it would give away far too many hints, secrets, and spoilers away before the game is released. I like my customers to be surprised, explore the game on their own, without having everything spelled out before hand. The way I see it if I say too much now there will be nothing for people to explore that is new to them later on when they pay for the game. Giving away hints, spoilers, whatever is kind of like handing a person a walk through before they even start the game for the first time. Where is the joy and surprise of finding out on your own without getting a sneak peak at what comes next? I guess what I want to say is I view gaming somewhat differently than other people I know. I know a few old college/high school buddies that run out rent/buy a Play Station game, and before they even take off the shrink wrap they are on the internet looking for a faq or walk through that tells them step by step where all the secrets are, how to do this and that, and beat the game without any trial and error. As for me I just can't understand why they would do something like that. When I buy a game I don't want to know anything about it, any secrets, and prefer to explore and find things out on my own. I don't want all of the games secrets handed to me on a platter. Not only do I find it adds more replay value to the game, it is fun, and I have something to look forward too. Those who cheat often read the walkthrough, beat the game, and say the game was too dull, boring, easy, disappointing, whatever. What they seam to not realise is that their opinion and disappointment with the game is probably largely do to the fact they cheated in the first place, and never lifted a finger towards exploring the game on their own without that walkthrough sitting on top of their console. How exactly do suchpeople ffigure a game is dull, easy, and not very exciting when they themselves cheated the entire way through it? Anyway, this has nothing to do with you or your question personally. All I am saying is I don't generally give away hints, spoilers, and cheats until plenty of people have had a chanse to explore the game on their own. Hi Ryan, Good question. I'm trying to decide weather to release the bug fixes as a small miner patch or just to finish up a few things I am doing, and release the whole works as beta 9. Anyway, in either case the hand to hand combat will be in the next release. It is already coded into the game so regardless if I release a small patch or a full release it's in there. Hi Shaun, Well, I could use a British voice like Scansoft Emily or ATT Audry, but again it is probably not appropriate given the fact some people would prefer an American English voice. Microsoft Anna is ok, but there are better female American voices out there. As for ESpeak that is definitely out of the question. I'd sooner use Eloquence before ESpeak for games. Re: [Audyssey] Asking a technocal question.
Hi, In order to fix that problem you have to open the control pannel, go to speech, and redirect the output to your USB device. Redirecting the Sapi speech varies slightly between XP and Vista, but what you are looking for is a button labeled output or something like that. The Kolesar Brothers wrote: Hi to one and all, from Ron and Boz. I just got off the phone with Jim kitchen and he advised me to put this question out to the list. So here goes. Re: [Audyssey] Asking a technocal question.
Hi Shaun, Yes, Sapi can be routed to a separate audio device independant of other sounds, music, etc. There is a button in the control pannel called Audio Output which allows you to configure Sapi's prefered audio device. shaun everiss wrote: h. a usb mic set will usually have an output device on it. Since sapi is part of windows windows sounds would have to be routed to that device I don't think sapi programs can just rout. Re: [Audyssey] MOTA 8 bug
Hi Dean, Unfortunately the bug you are speaking of is a rather difficult one to track down. It doesn't often happen, but I can say that particular crash happens when one of the threads, such as the speech thread, exits improperly. I've een trying for a couple of months to fix that one, but because it happens so infrequently there is no way to replicate it regularly and find the root/source of the bug. Dean Masters wrote: I was playing and went for the h key to find out how much health I had when I hit the h and another key, maybe the u. Hi, When you get into the nexus, look for the plotter. Activate that link. Then it will bring up a window. In there are 2 combo boxes. The first one is your starting point the second one is the destination. Adjust them accordingly and then click on the button. Re: [Audyssey] combat drones
Once you launch them in combat they automatically do damage to the enemy each round. Also, the enemy sometimes shoots at the drone instead of your ship which provides some measure of defense, they're not invinsiable though, they have hp and can be destroyed if enough damage is done to them. Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8
Hi Bryan, Smile. I have no plans on changing voices at this point. If I didn't like Heather I wouldn't have used her for the game. It is a decent voice, and I can't please everyone when it comes to TTS voices anyway. For example, I know several people that love Eloquence. As for me I am no fan of the voice. I use it for programming, work mostly, but can't stand it for anything else.I especially can't stand it reading books from Book Share or books I've scanned myself. Ug! Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8
Hi Bryan, Agreed. Eloquence is fine for general day to day screen reader tasks, but using it in games or having it read books is terrible. For one thing it totally kills the ambiance for me. Tomb Hunter is a game series with a very strong female character roll. Therefore it follows the game's narration would be a female as well. Preferably a human sounding one if possible. Using a robotic voice like Eloquence, ESpeak, or a male character voice would simply have the wrong ambiance and feel. Bryan Peterson wrote: No. Eloquence is totally wrong for a game like this. [Audyssey] Ce threat access change!
Hi. People will be pleased to know there has now been a change made in core exiles. The view button in the combat scan screen is now labled with a threat rating of 0-26 which says how dangerous the ship is, 0 a pushover, 26 flying death! Note, that this is the title of the button, not it's default text lable, so you'll need to do something to alter your screen reader's reading of titles. Hal for instance must have it's web settings changed to read titles, lables then text. I'm not sure about Jaws. I've already sent thanks to the developer, as this should significantly help in avoiding in game death from attacking a ship which is too strong. Hopefully this should reduce the amount of hull rupturings! Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8
Hi Thomas, I think people are confused when you use the Heather synthesized SAPI voice to record what is said in the game. To get a human to sound as consistent in rate, volume and lack of background noise would take weeks if not months of sound studio work instead of the few minutes to have the SAPI voice recorded to sound files. Plenty of people asked where I got the voices in my games so much that I finally made a list of them in the instructions. I think Heather was voted by a game magazine as the most popular voice. Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8
Hi Bryan, Yeah. Unfortunately it is not always possible to come by actual human speech for games though. For one thing getting the person to record, rerecord, his/her voice over and over again to get it right is very tiring work. Then, there is lots of editing required to make it as smooth and seamless as possible. That's why I chose a voice like Heather which seams to be a happy medium. Not too synthetic, and human enough to work well in a game. Plus much less editing and work involved. Bryan Peterson wrote: Exactly. Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8
Hi Phil, Yes, that was my experience as well. Last year, when I was beginning Mysteries of the Ancients, I originally was going to have Cara Quinn cast in the roll of Angela Carter as well as the games narrator voice. She definitely had a good voice for the roll, was fairly decent voice talent, but we discovered using her for the entire game like that was a logistical nightmare. There were several problems. First, when we started out she didn't have her microphone setup properly so we did some test runs until we got the volume right, got it so it sounded good, and got her system set up correctly so what she recorded sounded the way I wanted it for the game. Then, she got a head cold or something and she couldn't do any voice work for me until she got over that. That caused a major delay just because of something that was out of our control, and that set me behind somewhat. Finally, when we got everything squared away, she was over the head cold, her computer was set up, and we were ready to start work her modeling schedule picked up. Since her day job obviously takes priority over the game we both decided it just was not worth the hastle. So I settled on Heather instead. As far as editing goes what files I did get from Cara took quite a bit of editing to get the way I wanted them. I had to trim them, take out any background microphone noise, etc. It was a serious pain in the butt. I realised as you did that using a Sapi voice is much much much easier to work with. Phil Vlasak wrote: Hi Thomas, I think people are confused when you use the Heather synthesized SAPI voice to record what is said in the game. Exactly. I like the Heather voice. I might actually look into getting her myself, though I don't know if the license agreement permits using them as screen reader voices.
At least you did get a human for the Angela voice. I don't think any Sapi voice exists, exccept possibly the hugely expensive Loquendo voices, that can convincingly produce a scream as the character falls off a cliff, into a lava pit or whatnot, or a cry of pain as she takes a hit from an Amazon's arrow or skeleton's sword. Re: [Audyssey] combat drones
hmm i have a gatling at 248, I think I got your drone. on that note, if I can find a gun that will use 300 units of power exactly then I will get it. I have 54 units left from using the scanner and gatling, I have used all my cash in getting one drone. oh do they need repairing at all? or can I take it to a repair service. Also is there a way you can loot armour from ships, etc? If there is not I sure would like it. Even if I had to patch it. SOme of the shields/armour looked quite nice and if I could use that then cool. I'd also like the option to get bigger rewards in missions, ie ships, packs, etc, not just cash. It would mean less things to buy and something to play for, hear in new zealand us dollars cost twice of what they usually cost and so I am not likely to buy from the standard store. currently everything is cheaper but I'd like to be able to earn something real chunky if I can pull off bigger things. I'd admit I would have to work for it but. If I remember rightly, you just have to do enough to make 2.5 k, which doesn't take long. Beware the grue! I actually find it weerd that Hal doesn't do this by default, and that onone of the read attribute keys worked. I'll be contacting dolphin about this one myself. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] combat drones
Hi Sean. do you have a reactor? You need to use Ip on reactor tech skill to install one, but they can provide a lot of energy, like an extra thousand units. Also, the hammer reactors give you a damage bonus as well. I don't have one yet, but there will be a point when I run out of energy myself and that's when I'll get one. Being in a guild gives you percentage bonuses to cash rewards which is nice, I can recommend the guild I'm in, intelliquest. To sign up just go to the guild office on jarress outpost in the Fieren system. For getting stuff from combat missions, salvage items can be recycled to give a good wodge of cash, and if you find any locked continers, you can ttakem them to jimmy fingers on San miguel and pay to get them opened. They sometimes have armour or fuel buffs inside, but your best off buying those from the player market. Hth. I was told the drone was in the cargo bay so does that mean it should be already where it needs to be or do I have to move it. Lvl 2 drones take a skill of 40, and captain level of 18. Hth. Beware the grue!
