well i doubt you can.
I tried a few years ago to get keysoft 2 for my old laptop.
and its not like they can for whatever reason there are no coppies in
stock.

1. allow us to use the old keynote demo from 1995 or so, as a full
version, have failed.
2. create a synth voice for ESpeak that sounds like keynote gold, call it
the keynote ESpeak variant or something like that. this so far has also
failed. I will continue to try and get them to either:
1. patch the old unsupported keynote gold multimedia demo to run as full

or 2. make a keynote voice variant for ESpeak.
the old unsupported software also runs in a win95 virtual machine very

Re: [Audyssey] How did you start?

2010-04-07 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Dark,

Well, my black jack, draw poker, slot machine and star mule games started out
as video / text games in the eighties. They were then converted to blind
accessible games in the nineties. As a matter of fact my black jack game made
the BBS PC Ohio's collection of must have files collection.

Yes, well other than reaction I have converted all of my dos games to windows
versions. There are a few utility programs that I have not published as
windows versions, but here is the full list of dos games on my web site.

baseball, battleship, black jack, bopit, concentration, draw poker, football,
golf, hangman, life, master mind, reaction, roulette wheel, simon, skunk, slot
machine, snakes and ladders, star mule, trivia game engine, trucker and yahtzee.

Now spanker does measure your reaction time like the reaction game did.

And compare my windows list of games to the above dos list.

Baseball, BattleShip, Black Jack, Bop It, Concentration, Craps, Draw Poker,
Football, Golf, Hangman, Homer on a Harley, Life, Mach 1, Mach 1 tts, Master
Mind, Monopoly, Pong, Puppy1, Roulette, Simon, Skunk, Slot Machine, Snakes and
Ladders, Spanker, Star Mule, Triple J Shooter, Trivia game engine, Trucker,
Yahtzee

Hi,
In deed I do. I had a number of games for the BNS. I know for sure I
had Solitaire, Simon, Mine Buster, Hangman, etc stored on my flash
rom. After I took C in college I looked at the BNS C compiler, but
they wanted to much money for the compiler so I never purchased it.
Good thing I didn't because shortly afterward Blazie merged with
Henter-Joice to form Freedom Scientific, and then started developing
the Pacmates.

Re: [Audyssey] messege for phil vlasak

Hi Michael,
The reason it is doing that is because you aren't using the same user
name/user account you were using before when you registered the game.
To fix that problem go into your user account settings in control
pannel and rename your user name back to what it was before you did
the reinstall and then try entering your Sarah license key again.

Re: [Audyssey] multiple player game

2010-04-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,
Hey, that's perfectly ok. A lot of the early racing games like Poll
Position didn't use realistic physics and so on either. They had
limited CPU power and ram to work with on those Atari systems so
couldn't get too realistic with the games. However, I still had a lot
of fun playing Poll Position anyway.
In fact, around 1985 or so when I got my Colleco the stearing wheel
and pettles came with Poll Position II. I use to spend hours playing
that game using the racing wheel, and is one of the reasons why my
version of Raceway will have stearing wheel support. It is just so
much more realistic than a keyboard.

[Audyssey] Monopoly to the rescue

2010-04-07 Thread Charles Rivard
Starting in 1941, an increasing number of British Airmen found themselves as
the involuntary guests of the Third Reich, and the Crown was casting about
for ways and means to facilitate their escape.. Now obviously, one of the
most helpful aids to that end is a useful and accurate map, one showing not
only
where stuff was, but also showing the locations of 'safe houses' where a POW
on-the-lam could go for food and shelter.

Paper maps had some real drawbacks -- they make a lot of noise when you open
and fold them, they wear out rapidly, and if they get wet, they turn into
mush.

Someone in MI-5 (similar to America 's OSS ) got the idea of printing
escape maps on silk. It's durable, can be scrunched-up into tiny wads, and
unfolded
as many times as needed, and makes no noise whatsoever.

At that time, there was only one manufacturer in Great Britain that had
perfected the technology of printing on silk, and that was John Waddington,
Ltd.
When approached by the government, the firm was only too happy to do its bit
for the war effort.

By pure coincidence, Waddington was also the U.K. Licensee for the popular
American board game, Monopoly. As it happened, 'games and pastimes' was a
category
of item qualified for insertion into 'CARE packages', dispatched by the
International Red Cross to prisoners of war.

Under the strictest of secrecy, in a securely guarded and inaccessible old
workshop on the grounds of Waddington's, a group of sworn-to-secrecy
employees
began mass-producing escape maps, keyed to each region of Germany or Italy
where Allied POW camps were regional system).. When processed, these maps
could
be folded into such tiny dots that they would actually fit inside a Monopoly
playing piece.

As long as they were at it, the clever workmen at Waddington's also managed
to add:
1. A playing token, containing a small magnetic compass
2. A two-part metal file that could easily be screwed together
3. Useful amounts of genuine high-denomination German, Italian, and French
currency, hidden within the piles of Monopoly money!

British and American air crews were advised, before taking off on their
first mission, how to identify a 'rigged' Monopoly set -- by means of a tiny
red
dot, one cleverly rigged to look like an ordinary printing glitch, located
in the corner of the Free Parking square.

Of the estimated 35,000 Allied POWS who successfully escaped, an estimated
one-third were aided in their flight by the rigged Monopoly sets.. Everyone
who
did so was sworn to secrecy indefinitely, since the British Government might
want to use this highly successful ruse in still another, future war. The
story wasn't declassified until 2007, when the surviving craftsmen from
Waddington's, as well as the firm itself, were finally honoured in a public
ceremony.
It's always nice when you can play that 'Get Out of Jail' Free' card!

I realize most of you are (probably) too young to have any personal
connection to WWII (Dec. '41 to Aug. '45), but this is still interesting.

British and American air crews were advised, before taking off on their

Hi Michael,
Oh, yeah. I remember Frogger alright. My poor little froggy got
smashed on the road more often then he got across. Then you had to
cross the river by hopping from log to log. The object, as I recall,
were to get all the little frogs safely home in their little holes.
It was a pretty cute childrens game.

Re: [Audyssey] a question on artificial inteligence

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] a question on artificial inteligence

Hi Yohandy,
Well, AI really is a specialized field of computer programming, and is
rather complex to break down to a newby level. However, I think I can
give you the jist of how it works without getting too technical.
First off there is what we call boolean logic. Generally, computers
operate on the assumption something is either true or false. Usually,
this works ok in normal applications, but in games there are so many
factors that simple boolean logic can't account for all of the
probabilities involved. So in a complex game eventually the boolean
logic will break down and not be very effective.
Fortunately, there is a methodology for handling some degree of
uncertainty by basing an action on probabilities and not solid
true/false logic. This method of AI programming is called fuzzy logic
because it doesn't act on a strict true/false condition. Instead we
use Bayesian updating to calculate a pprobability based on a number of
factors and take an action according to the current probability.
Let's give an example here.
You are playing Mortal Kombat wailing away on some bad guy when he
moves a certain way. Now, there is a certain probability your next
blow will be a strike from your left hand. That isn't necessarily
something that is true/false but can be guessed by your relationship
to him, and your left hand is closer etc. So there is a high
probability generated that you will strike with that hand so the game
will prepare a blocking move antisapating that attack. However, if you
throw a punch with that hand you will leave yourself open for a split
second and there is a high probability he can get a good blow in as
well. So after all this is figured in to a Baysian probability it has
an action in mind, you follow through with that attack, and he nails
you hard and fast.
However, were you to throw a punch with the right hand instead of the
left the AI opponent might have been caught off guard and got wailed
really good. That's what I meant a couple of days ago about being able
to defeat a computer opponent if you can guess its strategy.
Unfortunately, human beings are predictable, because we try to do the
obvious move/attack. If you do something that is counter intuitive it
plays havic with the AI's fuzzy logic and scrambles its probabilities.
In other words try and suprise the AI by doing something unexpected.

HTH

[Audyssey] Football game please

2010-04-07 Thread Ramy Moustafa
hi all;

really I love football so much and I need to play it on computer, while I was
at school we were playing football, but now no hope. so
I tried playing it on computer until I found the super football, it has many
good things like its name is football game.
but, really it's a very boring game, also, no competitions or something inside
the game, no updates, and the support team is not good.
also, when playing, no intertainment at all, cause computer will do all things
for you, u can't control the ball at all,
Just when the player speak s from the right you will send the ball right etc.
also, can't play online at all, can't find any parteners.
so, now can't we find any other good football game for blinds?

really I love this game, and if I find one I will buy it soon.

Thanks in advance

hours later today, you will have the link. If not that means that
something couldn't go as planned and it is taking me longer to fix. But
once I uploaded it, you all will get it and you are free and welcome to
send me suggestions and bug reports, and I will try to fix them. Also I
don't have a good condition right now for writing a very complex read

[Audyssey] my new game.

2010-04-07 Thread Muhammed Deniz
Not with bgt, will have an experement when the exe compiler works or when the
price is toned down. Anyway, I thought to only have a little test. Bugs to
shoot, but maybe we would get the machine gunners out of the sky. Its gonna use
sapi as the input. Still trying to learn the language. This is just a quick
update. Will let you guys know if this doesn't work.

2010-04-07 Thread Kevin Weispfennig

A quick update:
As we speak, or I mail, it is being uploaded. I also cannot leave the
sounds like this, I need people who help with sounds for characters. I
also want to implement a character system but I didn't because I just
didn't have enough persons to do character voices. I need some male and
some female persons, who want to join this project? Just mail me at
weis...@googlemail.com or leave comments here, or whatever. It is still
uploading. The game comes in zip, and it is 49 megs zipped, About 75
Megs unzipped. The music and stuff is all done by me, and the character
voices you hear are all un sroted and found on the internet, Not the
savest thing to do... Yeah, I won't leave it like this I jsut need many
participants who would like to help. I will post the link once it is up.
Stay tuned!!!

[Audyssey] The new game, Battleboomer, Released!

2010-04-07 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
Hi there,

Yeah, I know, the name sounds dumb, but if anyone else has a better idea
for the game, please tell me so.
The game still has many bugs, including when you hit space, control space
or shift space to attack, it would just crash saying The requested
action with this object has failed. I will try switching to another
audio library might help.
So, here is what you all have been waiting for! The big, event! Or
something... I still need some helpers who would help keeping the project
up and as good as it can be. If we have a big team we can also switch to
a more power full language to create the game in, but I am not that far
yet.

There, I did it, I never beleaved I would, but here you go... Kind of
scared actually...
Tell me what you think.
Big thanks, oh boy and stuff:
Kevin!
Oh! I almost forgot. There is the key strokes text file with, exactly, what
you would think.

2010-04-07 Thread Philip Bennefall

Hi Kevin,

COMAudio has well known issues and is not currently suitable for game
development. There are the Bass and FMOD libraries, but they are expensive
to license. Also, I would strongly advise against using AutoIt for serious
game development. I found out the hard way that it really isn't up to the
task. I would recommend C++, or if you are looking for something easier then
perhaps BGT would be your best bet.

Kind regards,

Re: [Audyssey] The new game, Battleboomer, Released!

2010-04-07 Thread Kevin Weispfennig
HI there,

I know that Autoit is not the best language for doing this, but at the time
I started this project BGT didn't exist in the public beta form that is,
and I didn't know, and still don't know C nor C++. Also I didn't know
that ComAudio has problems playing sounds, and all that good stuff. And,
I haven't looked into BGT much to be honest, I have been drawing back and
back from programming. I tried to make some games wtih BGT and failed,
probably because of the lack of reading. I have to look into that. Also I
have issues with money right now, so I am not sure if I ever can afford
BGT, even in its, let's call it, standart form, ummm, the lite form I
ment actually. I am running low because of the equiptment I bought. I am
learning PB right now, I know still not hte best language to program
auido games in, but it works I guess. Also, I would love to learn C++,
but I don't learn by manuals and tutorials. I learn by Function
referances and example codes, which I don't have any for Audio Game
developtment. I hope someone can help me with example audio game codes in
C++, and I hope I can get enough money to get BGT, otherwise I think I
will be missing out great stuff, not am I? I would greatly appriciate
some example codes of audio games. Even if it is not in C++, then maybe
another language it is worth learning for creating audio games, except
BGT. Also school is another problem which keeps me off programming most
of the time. I try to learn as much of both as I can, though school
coming first than programming because school is a Thing I must do and
programming is a thing I really badly want to do, and I started on and I
am going through it completely. Once I have much more time I will learn
more and more about computers, as if I didn't know enough already lol,
Learn more languages to program in, and if someone can help me with
example codes would be greately appriciated. Again, it doesn't need to be
c++, I just would like to know what people program in and I would like to
see some example codes, if not if something is old enough to give me the
source to would love to see it, or if it is open source. If it is not
ment to share but it's a great free ware learning tool or whatever, I
won't share it at all, I will just look at it, I am kind of... Well,
strickt about licenses, kidn of I must say... I accept if someone doesn't
want me to distribute something in another or this way. I would just
liketo have more recourses to programming. I also don't need comments, if
I need I can look int he internet, because, I guess that is what it is
for. So, that was all for now, Wow, my longest mail in about a year, I
must say.
So, Great day and stuff,
Kevin.

Yeah

That will change later to Pure Audio because com audio has some serious

Also if someone could help me translate the game to another programming

There is the key strokes text file with, exactly,
what

you would think.

Yeah
sorry I forgot to mention you need com audio:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1617788/requirements/comaudiosetup.exe
That will change later to Pure Audio because com audio has some serious
issues with playing and loading sounds.
Also if someone could help me translate the game to another programming
language that is more... Well let's say power full than autoit, would be
appriciated.

Re: [Audyssey] Football game please

2010-04-07 Thread Charles Rivard

Try Jim Kitchen's football game. It's found at

www.kitchensinc.net

in the section of free text to speech Windows games. On offense, you choose
from a list of plays, and on defense, well, you defend. It's a good fun
free game with good sounds. Be sure to download and install the other
necessary files first, as described at the site. And, while you're at it,
try the other free games from there, too. There's a lot of fun to be found
there. HTH.

Subject: [Audyssey] Football game please

hi all;

really I love football so much and I need to play it on computer, while I
was at school we were playing football, but now no hope. so
I tried playing it on computer until I found the super football, it has
many good things like its name is football game.
but, really it's a very boring game, also, no competitions or something
inside the game, no updates, and the support team is not good.
also, when playing, no intertainment at all, cause computer will do all
things for you, u can't control the ball at all,
Just when the player speak s from the right you will send the ball right
etc.

also, can't play online at all, can't find any parteners.
so, now can't we find any other good football game for blinds?

really I love this game, and if I find one I will buy it soon.

Thanks in advance

[Audyssey] Next version of platform jumping BGT script/game

2010-04-07 Thread Jacob Kruger

http://www.blindza.co.za/uploads/platformJumping2.zip

Now includes just holding in left and right keys to make the character keep
on moving instead of repeatedly pressing them.

Still have to figure out how exactly to stop it from looping excessively
past certain events/happenings, but have already implemented some boolean
state variables which do help a bit, but not perfect as of yet, and also
played around with/edited sound effects to make them work a bit better, as
well as making the applet wait for them to play before carrying on, and did
that by using the wait method for now instead of play_wait, but will maybe
try out different versions or something.

Re: [Audyssey] The new game, Battleboomer, Released!

2010-04-07 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Just wanted to add to Philip's post here. FMOD only needs to be
licensed if the developer intends to use it commercially. If it is a
freeware project theFMOD API can be used free of charge. Compared to
DirectSound, XAudio2, OpenAL, etc FMOD is far easier to use.

On 4/7/10, Philip Bennefall phi...@blastbay.com wrote:

 Philip Bennefall

[Audyssey] If-Archive games and Winfrotz information

2010-04-07 Thread Chastity MORSE
Okay, I see a lot of people asking about using winfrotz and the windows agt
translation programs for games from the interactive archive.
I use winfrotz as it has its own sappy speech and you don't need to use a
screen reader. You can download it with a gamepack of near 300 games from the
a href=http://www.whitestick.co.uk/a
Tom's whitestick site
or at another link I have to look up.
If you want more games than what's in the game pack, you can go to the
if-archive and get more games through a specific search criteria that includes
the game code, years you want to search, and so on. You can also go to the list
of if-archive/games and under that you'll find the various game codes like
Inform, Hugo, Glulx and others and choose what format you want and it will
bring up a list of games in that format and just download the ones you want.
Create a folder for the games and each of those written in Inform or Z-code
will open in winfrotz.

If you want to play the glulx games, you'll need the Philpher game engine.
This, however, does not have speech so you'll need to use your screen reader.
If using jaws, set it to speak all mode. This also works if you are running a
version of winfrotz that doesn't have its own speech, the original version I
started with.
