Re: [JAWS-Users] 2013/365.

2015-06-18 Thread Michael Boyd
They are both the same. Office 365 is Office 2013 bundled with special
pricing and sold as a subscription service. The cost is less. I pay $10.39
per month for the Home version which includes Word, Excel, Power Point, One
Drive, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. With this you also get 1 TB of One
Drive and 60 minutes of Skype per month to use. With this subscription, you
can install the suite on up to 5 computers or tablets, and you always keep
the latest updates and upgrades for the Office Suite, so when the next
version comes out, you will automatically update to that. When I had Office
2013 Home and Student installed on my computer, it seemed as if something
about Office never work right, but with the 365, it has run flawlessly.
There is also the Personal version available for $6.95 per month plus taxes,
and with this version I believe you get Word, Excel, Power Point, and
Outlook only.

Hey Dacia,

First of all you must have either Office 2013 or Office 365 installed on
your computer. It could be the Home edition, the Home and Business
Edition, or whatever. Then hopefully, you will already have the icons for
Word, excel, etc on your desktop. If you don't, then we can go through the

Then, you could just go to your desktop and press enter on the icon for

I installed the desktop application and so far it looks quite simple to
manage.

It looks like you just paste something in there either a file or an entire
folder / directory of files and they automatically upload to the cloud.
Granted the directory only had 2 files in it but I figure that is enough for
a first test.

So far no issues with accessibility at all I am pleased to report.

Adobe has made the update process far more efficient than in the past,
requiring just a couple of screens. The optional Google offers are on

Fortunately, the handy little read screen hot key insert/B told me

that. Much better than past iterations.

I just signed up for the service this evening and downloaded the application
although it is too late to do any installing. My question is how usable is
  this thing?

Note there is one of those graphic things with stuff for you to type in the
box before the sign up process will complete. Annoying but not impossible.
There is an audio option but fortunately my wife was able to figure out the
  letters.

I just have no desire to fiddle with such things when there are so many more
things in life to worry about like is my ice cream supply stocked or not.

Steve,

In the Home tab, shift tab up a dozen or so times until you find the Format
Cells submenu. Press enter to open this, and tab tab down until you find the
show or hide submenu, and select Show or unhide columns. You will need to
have the column and at least one beside it selected for this to work.

There's a lot of that going around. The best way to customize word is with the
extensive list of options under the file menu. Like you, I like a nice, clean,
get-down-to-business interface. Pay particular attention to the Advanced tab.
Take your time, go back and review as often as you want, and, next thing you
know, Word will be performing Dacia's way.

Neil:

You've got the right idea about track changes, at least so far as I
understand them.

As you can imagine, if a great many changes have been made to a document,
all of the deletions and revisions will be noted, which can make things
quite confusing when you simply want to read the final document.

This is why I posted my quiry last night.

Fortunately, due to the help of a number of list members, I got a number of
suggestions for turning off the track changes, and was able to read the
document I needed for work today.

As a quick update, I went back into the review tab, and found the track
changes option. I discovered that if I use the control shift E key command,
you can toggle track changes on or off. In my case, of course, I toggled to
off, and the track changes disappeared.

Hopefully, this will help others who might need to deal with this type of

Hello, everyone.

I have just received a document in my work e-mail that I need to review and

My problem is that the document has many track changes (including deletions
and insertions), so that it is very difficult to determine what the final

Has anyone figured out how to make sense out of a document like this?

I'm using Jaws 14, Windows 7, and Office 2010 here.

You probably have a program group for Office 2013 branching off your start menu
(sorry I have no direct experience with Win 8). You can either create an
Office shortcut for your desktop, or a Word shortcut for your desktop. It may
not sound like much, but it'll save you time and keystrokes in the long run.

On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save

I installed the desktop application and so far it looks quite simple to
manage.

It looks like you just paste something in there either a file or an entire
folder / directory of files and they automatically upload to the cloud.
Granted the directory only had 2 files in it but I figure that is enough for
a first test.

So far no issues with accessibility at all I am pleased to report.

Hi David Mike,

Cloneapp is a tool that backs up your program Windows settings, not a
harddrive cloning program. Do a search for, cloneapp, to get better
results. The earlier link was sent to me by the technician that reinstalled
Windows7 for me, but I didn't run into the stuff that others might of when I
went to the Lifehacker site. Below is an explanation of cloneapp.

6/13/15 11:00am
cloneapp-backs-up-all-your-windows-program-settings-1710987383

CloneApp Backs Up All Your Windows Program Settings

Windows: Whether you're migrating to a new computer or doing a clean
install, life is easier when you take all your settings and tweaks with you.

If you
don't want to do a full backup and restore, CloneApp backs up settings for
the most popular Windows programs so you can restore them later.

CloneApp essentially automates the process we detailed in our Windows
migration guide:
it knows where each program stores its settings and registry keys, and backs
them all up in one fell swoop so you don't have to do the legwork yourself.
It supports 119 different Windows programs, can detect which programs you
have installed, and even has a section for manual backups so you can include
the programs it doesn't support.

CloneApp is completely portable, too, so you don't have to install anything.

Just extract the program to its own folder on the desktop and right-click it
to launch it as an administrator. From there, check the programs you want to
back up, and click Start CloneApp. It'll back up all the necessary files and
registry keys to its folder, which you can then copy to your new computer,
launch the program, and click Restore to put all your settings back where
they belong.

Take care.
Mike

Hi Dacia,

For this one, you will also have to open the File tab and arrow down to
Options. Then, under categories, arrow down to the Trust Center. Now, once
inside of this, arrow down until you find Trust Center Settings, and open
this. Once in Trust Center Settings, arrow down to Protected View, tab one
time to enter the Protected View settings, and uncheck any of these settings
that you do not want affecting the files that you download by having them
open in protected view. When at the end of the list, simply tab once and
press enter on the OK button. Lastly, do this one more time to exit the
menu. Now documents that you download from the internet, an email attachment
or whatever, will not open in protected view.

If you do have one to do this, focus on the file, right click and select
properties. At the end of the Home tab, there will be an item called
Unblock. Click on this, then on Apply, then on OK, and the file will not
open in protected view.

2015-06-18 Thread Michael Boyd

OK, here we go. To start with, if you happen to be running Windows 7, just
open the Start menu and select All Programs, and arrow down to Microsoft
Office. Open this and scroll through the programs within Office finding the
ones that you want on your desktop. For each one that you do, right click on
that program and then select the Send To option and then select Desktop
(create shortcut).

If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1, then it is a little more complicated,
but not too bad. Start by opening File Explorer, and then your C: crive. Now
open Program files, and scroll down to Microsoft Office 15. Open Office 15
and scroll down to find the Root folder, and from here find the folder nmed
Office 15. OK, this is the folder that contains all of the esecutable files
for your Office programs. Unfortunately, they are not all called by the name
that you and I know the programs by, but that’s OK. Start by pressing the
letter E until you come to Excel, you can press EX to find it quicker, and
once you do, right click on it and select either Create Shortcut, or Send
To, and then Desktop (Create Shortcut). Now, you just repeat this for the
remainder of the applications that you want on your desktop. The file names
that you will be looking for are as follows:

Word - Winword
Excel - EXCEL
Outlook - Outlook
One Note - Onenote
Power Point - POWERPNT
Access - MSACCESS
Publisher - MSPUB

OK, that’s it. Hope it helps.

Hey Dacia,

First of all you must have either Office 2013 or Office 365 installed on
your computer. It could be the Home edition, the Home and Business
Edition, or whatever. Then hopefully, you will already have the icons for

Word, excel, etc on your desktop. If you don't, then we can go through
the

steps of putting them there, if you have one of these versions of Office.

Then, you could just go to your desktop and press enter on the icon for
Word and it, of course, would open. Let me know what version of Office
you

are running , and we can take it from there.

until you find Show the start screen when this program opens, and
uncheck

this box. Now select OK and now the back stage view will not come up
when

you open Word, just a blank document.

As for more blind friendly versions of Word, I know that the web app is
not very accessible, but the desktop versions should be equally
accessible.

On saving, I, again, open the file tab, and arrow to Save to save
changes

to a previously saved document. Or, to save a new document and assign it

a name, press enter on the Save As option, and it will say saving
features, go down to computer, and you will get an edit field to type in

the name that you want to give to the document. Then, simply tab down to

the Save button and press enter. If you do not want to save the document

to the default folder, usually the Documents folder, then in the edit
field, type in the path to where you want the document saved, such as:
c:\archives\document name.

I did that. I turned it on and it would not speak. My dad saw

Thank you.

My does, under Options, Start Up Opptions, it reads Show the Start Screen

Re: [JAWS-Users] cloning a hard rive

2015-06-18 Thread Michael B.

CloneApp essentially automates the process we detailed in
our Windows migration guide:
it knows where each program stores its settings and registry keys, and backs
them all up in one fell swoop so you don't have to do the legwork yourself.
It supports 119 different Windows programs, can detect which programs you
have installed, and even has a section for manual backups so you can include
the programs it doesn't support.

CloneApp is completely portable, too, so you don't have to install anything.
Just extract the program to its own folder on the desktop and right-click
it to launch it as an administrator. From there, check the programs you want
to back up, and click Start CloneApp. It'll back up all the necessary files
and registry keys to its folder, which you can then copy to your new
computer, launch the program, and click Restore to put all your settings
back where
they belong.

Take care.
Mike

Image for windows is my program of choice. However if you have the option of
sited assistance you could get away with creating a system image with
windows 7 natively. The help will come in on the reload. Keep in mind both
options will assume the target drive is the same size as the source. If it
is larger then you will end up with unallocated space which is possible to
get back using the disk partition manager. It's not as hard as it sounds but
it is quite a number of steps. If the target drive is smaller I would need
to review my notes on the subject although here again I believe it is
possible.

I've got the business version and it's accessible enough for me. More or
less the same as all the other DropBox/GoogleDrive alternatives out there.
The folder shows up in the Windows explorer structure and the few times I've
used it online, I've been able to get done what I've needed to do. I use it
more on iOS, but even then, it's fine with Voiceover.

This came across my desk yesterday and I have only had a brief look at the
page. Never the less this might also offer an alternative.
