You have a settings issue. You could have solved this in Legacy 5 I think.
Options - Customise - Data Format tab in earlier versions Now section 3.
Instead of Initial Caps you choose Don't change what I enter. 3.6
for Locations but you can do it for names as well.

I don't believe it. Send me your v5 file and I'll test it myself. Opening
a v5 file with Legacy 8 doesn't change your data as you say it is. The
display options may be set differently but the actual data hasn't changed.

I would like to add that this is a good way to corrupt your database. If you
leave Legacy on overnight and Windows decides to do a software update and a
reboot it could mess your file up. Also, a good power surge or an outage can
do the same thing. It is a good idea to close down
