hello,i'm trying to set up a home ltsp network, using edubuntu (dapper). ltsp-config shows that xdmcp is not installed. xdmcp is not listed in the ubuntu repositories; can anyone point me to where i can get it? sorry for the newbie question...

xdmcp isn't a program, it's a protocol.
It's provided by an X Display manager, like GDM, KDM or XDM.
It should already be there.
Edubuntu includes a version of LTSP that doesn't need xdmcp, it uses LDM
instead.
You shouldn't need to run ltspadmin or ltspcfg on an Edubuntu system,

xdm on the local machine is running fine.

Here are some things you can try. A short disclaimer. All of this is
relevant for RedHat. Your mileage may vary on different distributions.
I am most familiar with KDM so I will recommend that you try kdm. In
redhat, you set

Hmm, I just looked at the kdmrc file, and it doesn't
look like there is a setting for max sessions.
I'm not sure what is going on there. GDM does have that
setting though.
