resident has several pictures of this bird over the years, as it frequents the
area in front of his place. It would be nice to figure out where this bird

a flock of about 40 Bohemians in the Woodland neighborhood_
Thanks to Frank again, we found the Northern Hawk Owl on Martin Road just a
quarter mile west of Jean Duluth. It was perched HIGH up on the power pole near
the dirt factory on the N side of Martin.

The Boreal dozed, then hunted actively...and even plunged in the snow but sadly
no vole.

On Wed I birded the Stoney River Forest Road in Lake County.
It is not plowed ...except for the northernmost 1.5 miles. The rest is a rough
two- track rut through rather deep snow. The Subaru Forester made it just fine.
Whyte Road is just a snowmobile trail now. Tomorrow's snowstorm should shut

The area is a half mile walk in and it was heard another quarter mile into the
woods so not much chance of seeing it.
Also several N. Saw-whets singing in Carlton County (at my home and at Larry
Weber's) this evening.

proportion of the birds become hungry enough they're forced to hunt in the
