For many years the company name was Asahi Optical, and the brand was Pentax

I can answer part of the diesel fuel cost question. Way back when, before
the mid 70's diesel was abundant because it was essentially a waste
by-product of gasoline production. The fuel crises came and went and there
was a sudden discovery that diesel engines were more economical than spark
Is that the new unit of monetary exchange, a Rat's Ass?
