I believe so, just is not approved as the new company did not continue the
process

It’s too bad, because it is an awesome chair and I feel so secure. It’s not
fast!! But I can climb a 30° hill with no problem, and I can go sideways along
a hill and not feel that I’m going to Tip over to it

My new chair is not as powerful as my last. I guess its a trade off with speed.
I was on a dirt road and pulled off to the side for a truck, got stuck.
No torque, once I did get moving, it would not turn.
While stuck, twice cars came right by me, I'm waving both arms... they just

Had to call home. They couldn't pull me out either, but a nice guy saw them

I need fatter tires, on the front too. Mid wheel chair

I would consider contacting Medicare/Medicaid and tell them to stop making
payments to your provider and then contact Invacare-Customer Care, with the
 serial number of your chair.

Why not call Invacare directly and get the story from them. Tell them what you
want and why you want to. Let them pull while you are pushing. BTW, who's the
customer anyway? Customer, is always right. Call Medicare/Medicaid in your
state and let them know what the provider is doing to you.

Below is a previous message I sent the quadlist. I decided this morning I don’t
even want to demo any chairs. The DME vendor is having problem getting two
footrests instead of the platform plate for all 3 chairs. I’ve been in an
Invacare Action Arrow Storm for 19 years. They no longer make this chair but
the Torque 3 is the same chair, different motor.

I called vendor to tell them to order the Invacare but they told me we have to
provide reasons why the other chairs won’t work before the FDA will sign off on
it (since Invacare is currently under Consent Decree with FDA). So they still
want me to demo chairs and come up with reasons they won’t work.

I am so frustrated. I know one deal breaker is the armrests because I have a
bag that we attach to a particular spot on my armrest and I put my leg bag in
it so it is hidden. Their suggestion is to put in on front of seat pan. That
won’t work, not even gonna try it, what’s not broke doesn’t need fixed.

Also, I believe by having the same base I won’t have to move e-z locks in the
floor of my van where as if the other bases are different not only will I have
to pay to have bolt added to chair but the expense of moving the bases.

Anyone else want to help me come up with reasons why other chairs won’t work?

My rear is the one that sits in it so why can’t I just pick what I freaking
want?

Why not call Invacare directly and get the story from them. Tell them
what you want and why you want to. Let them pull while you are pushing. BTW,
who's the customer anyway? Customer, is always right. Call
Medicare/Medicaid in your state and let them know what the provider is doing
to you.

You know how when someone is in a car accident they often claim a neck injury,
which is nondescript and difficult to pinpoint.  You just have trouble sitting
up all day in those chairs.  You don't understand why, but it hurts and you
have to go back to bed.  Only the Invacare seems to allow for your sitting up
all day.

They say Medicare no longer covers seat elevators. Its like $2,700, but I
need it to transfer. I'd love a faster chair, but is $1,600 worth 2 extra
mph in the speed package. To go from 6mph to 8mph.

Anyone have the Q6 Edge Z?

This will be my 3rd chair and and my 1st two were Invacare Action Arrow Storms.
They are no longer making this chair :(

I hate change! I went to an evaluation appointment and was told the chair I
want (Invacare Torque 3) is considered a Group 4 chair

And it would be difficult to get. They recommended a Permobil C350 or Quantum
Rival.

They told me that an Invacare plant had been shut down by the FDA ( I think
that’s right) and their concern is if I got the

Invacare they might quit making parts for it.

I feel they probably make more $$ off the other two chairs (I just really have
trust issues with them)

. I have had incredible luck with my Invacare chairs, obviously since 2 have
lasted 19 years.

What would you recommend?

I am getting a new Invacare Torque 3 Wednesday. They were halted for a

I have been injured almost 19 years (Thought it was 20 but I was wrong)
and I am getting ready to get a new chair.

This will be my 3rd chair and and my 1st two were Invacare Action Arrow
Storms. They are no longer making this chair L

I hate change! I went to an evaluation appointment and was told the chair
I want (Invacare Torque 3) is considered a Group 4 chair

And it would be difficult to get. They recommended a Permobil C350 or
Quantum Rival.

They told me that an Invacare plant had been shut down by the FDA ( I
think that’s right) and their concern is if I got the

Invacare they might quit making parts for it.

I feel they probably make more $$ off the other two chairs (I just really
have trust issues with them)

. I have had incredible luck with my Invacare chairs, obviously since 2
have lasted 19 years.

What would you recommend?

I found this most interesting. So I called Invacare and read back to them
what you wrote. I was assure that they were still in business and new
plants continue to open.

Have you considered calling your local CMS Office and asking for a written
copy of the procedure/guideline for someone in need of an electric
wheelchair, with a doctor's order.

Your salesperson is trying to guide you to a product they stock, for their
benefit, not yours. Call Invacare Customer Service and hear from the
Horse's Mouth... rather than from the Horse's Ass. (smiling)

Like I was saying earlier, you have to basically live in the chair for who
knows how many years.  You should be making that choice.  I'm in a Pride chair
now, after two Invacares.  If I hadn't been steered away from Invacare, that's
what I would have.  I don't like this Pride chair.  Would I be happier in an
Invacare?  I don't know but it would've been completely my decision without any
steering by others.

Thank you for your input!! I called Invacare last fall so looks like I’ll be
calling again. I know my vendor has

An issue w/ Invacare because they started shipping parts orders together

Re: [QUAD-L] New Chair

2017-01-19 Thread RONALD L PRACHT
Ive gotten two manual chairs since 1998. My first one was an action mvp and the
second and current chair is a quickie 2 which I have held together from ebay
parts from (2001-2017). I have replaced everything on the chair at least once
except the red frame, which is wobbly because its a folder. Ive had 10 sets on
rear tires, 4 sets of casters, 2 jay backs, 3 jay 2 cushions, 8 sets of scissor
brakes, 6 sets of sideguards 7 seatbelts, 4 seat platforms, I found every part
either at sportaid, ebay or somewhere else online. In 2001 I got lucky and was
presented a brand new p-222 special edition Darryl Gywnn Racing power chair.
That chair has some guts, it will climb places you shouldn't go. The first week
I had it I took it close to a mile on rough grassy hills to get to the lake and
popped a front tire. I was stupid and got air filled front casters(8x2) and to
make it worse you couldn't take the wheel off without taking the tension off
this spring system used for the suspension. I  called the dealer that presented
it to me and he said, I learned the hard way with a chevy nova not to take
things apart I couldn't handle, he was telling me not to get my father to fix
it, but the price was 180.00, so my dad pulled it apart in the living room and
I replaced the air filled tires with foam filled. That chair now sits in the
corner with dead batteries and Im still in my quickie 2.
The biggest problem how things are handled with mobility solutions for the
disabled is inequality. One guy gets a house given to him, free vans and
another guy is given one hospital chair. Nothing is equal or even close to
fair, the squeaky wheel and the best insurance plans get the most and the best.
We need something that's equal across the board for every disabled individual.
Im so tired of one golden boy or girl getting everything while someone else is
laying in a bed that they cant get a new mattress for with half a dozen bed
sores. Am I the only one that's heard the stories and had disabled friends die
over a wheelchair cushion they never got?

Ditto as Danny as far as the reclining option on my Permobil M 300 in
September 2011 and the price of the entire chair was $32,000 I think.
Medicare covered that but I had to pay the 20% that Medicare did not pay
and had to pay the full $5000 for the recline option.

I finely started the new chair process. I just kept putting it off. Cost to
darn much, I owe 20%. They told me Medicare no longer pays for seat elevator
or faster motors. So that's even more for me. I have AARP Medicare
Replacement. Covers a bit more, but same rules for durable medical.

Was anyone able to get seat elevator or faster motors covered? If so, what
need did you use?

I never tie down, I sit sideways behind the seat. Now my motors auto break
is so warn out, I roll a lot. We had to hit the breaks hard coming home. I
was too much at an angle and rolled into the back of the seat. Snapped my
joystick right off. All the screws just snapped. Luckily I had 1 extra screw
at home. Supposed to use 4.

The new chairs sound pretty good. Said it could have a USB, and the joystick
can operate remote controls. Very cool.

Re: [QUAD-L] new chair

2015-10-11 Thread shirley bell
Hi all, I am going for a new chair and seating system to sit better. I have
been looking at the utube video on the Java ride design cushion and back and it
looks great. They seem to know what they are doing. I am in RI however. has
anyone used this product and are the other jayback or varalight products as
good? I Don't need the custom cushion. any thoughts? my posture is bad and
uncomfortable and these rohos don't support.
Kind regards,
Shirley Bell

my wheelchair rep came out today and changed the back on my chair. i'm so
happy, feels great. it's not a jay3 but a veralite icon air back. it also has
little lateral support. the other had way too much. she was familiar with the
jay3 website you showed me but my computer was malfunctioning and I couldn't
get aol up running to get to your links for you tube but i'm going to send them
to her later. thank you sooo much for feedback. she's also coming back out to
change my legs/foot rests as they are still too long after changing the back.

I beg to differ. Knowledge is Power and you have every right to say NO
and not sign the required paperwork until you get exactly what you need.
Remember that providers are guided by you requirements and needs. They must
comply with insurance perimeters and CMS codes. Learn as much about the

yes, i got the veralite icon (air) back. it's high and only about 2 inches from

The Evolution got 4.3 out of 5 stars and 91% recommend it. But I like the
Meridian due to better pressure map and dual chamber to keep you from sliding
out sit on tail bone.
I drive my own van and need good balance. I never had air cushion before. I am

Did you try the Evolution Wave?

 Did you try Meridian? likes,dislikes?

I was going to request the Meridian Wave from dealer to check out .

my wheelchair rep came out today and changed the back on my chair. i'm so
happy, feels great. it's not a jay3 but a veralite icon air back. it also has
little lateral support. the other had way too much. she was familiar with the
jay3 website you showed me but my computer was malfunctioning and I couldn't
get aol up running to get to your links for you tube but i'm going to send them
to her later. thank you sooo much for feedback. she's also coming back out to
change my legs/foot rests as they are still too long after changing the back.

I beg to differ. Knowledge is Power and you have every right to say NO and
not sign the required paperwork until you get exactly what you need.
Remember that providers are guided by you requirements and needs. They must
comply with insurance perimeters and CMS codes. Learn as much about the
manufacturer via the internet. You can try out anything you want. Manufacture
Reps are more than willing. Take Charge of YOUR Life. Otherwise others
will.

Then ask for a demo to try for a few weeks. Read reviews, ask other
users and give it time to adjust for the change. A new different chair
takes time to adjust to.

I do not think wheelchair manufactures and DME dealers consider people
sitting in wheelchairs for 12 hours a day. They should spend the time in
customers shoes and ride around town and into stores to see what its like.

DME are sparse in rural areas like I live in so there is not many
choices. My friend down the road was just told to find another dealer
after getting his new wheelchair just because he told them and argued
that he never got a chest strap. A chest strap is not much $ but they
could care less.

Its just another hosing that the disabled get. Here's your wheelchair,
cushion or van, now go away until you can order a new one. Plus, I blame
Med-i-dont-care for not paying for pressure mapping and for better
equipment.

The speed of any powered item can change from inch to foot to mile,
depending on many different factors. Temps, Whether batteries are fully

wind direction and level of surface. I would think going down a hill

Greg, on my last chair my 20% came to about 3 thousand dollarsIf we put 800
down my chair shop said I could make payments on the remainder, SO I looked
into ways to get my downpayment and decided on a fundraiser to get the 800
downthere was several fundraisers I looked into at that time because I had
zero for the down payment at that time. We decided to have one selling
Tupperware and the Tupperware Agent worked with us and we got the 800 down, for
the rest I paid the Chair provider shop about a hundred a month until I paid
off my share. Funny thing is my chair now is getting old, so by fall I may need
to get another one.  Dan H***

I have had a Quickie Pulse 6 with tilt for about 2 years now. I have had no
problems with it. It is also good outdoors (within reason). Not good in

I have an offboard charger. The bearings aren't an issue...they are cheap. the
tech says it's because i have 2 dogs. We sweep just about everyday.

I know where Invacare ,Sunrise Medical and Pride are located. Pride
Mobility is located in Pennsy, on the West side of the State. Golden Tech and
Mega Motion are all within 5 miles of each other in western Pennsy. 80% of
Pride's products are made in China. Pretty, doesn't always mean functional.
No manufacturer will allow any outside personal to enter their warehouses and
take parts or components off the shelf. Government Sanitary Regulations forbid
the practice, plus rules of inventory won't allow that. You must be hard on
those wheel bearing, mostly made in China. On the side of bearings is a letter
and number. Those numbers indicate the size of the bearing. Consider
upgrading your bearing with sealed stainless bearings for longer life. I also
know of the motor, joystick and control module issues of the past. Do you have
an onboard or offboard charger?

Unfortunately, yes. I had to have the motors replaced twice, they had some
kind of oil leak. When they were replaced, the new ones had the same problem.
It had a tilt seating system which stopped working, had to have some kind of
sensor replaced. The seating system was from a different company (motion
concepts). When I had to have the batteries replaced, the seating system got
in the way of the panels that cover the rear battery. It took a wheelchair
technician a whole day to replace the batteries, he was on the phone with
motion concepts and pride mobility the whole time. This may not have happened
if the seating system had been from Pride. I believe pride now has their own
seating system.

I'm thinking of getting a Q6000z, it says it can get upgraded to 8mph.
I have an older Invacare TDX5, but it's not in great shape.
The Q6000z can use the joystick that can use infrared remotes to operate TV's,
etc. That looks interesting.
I just wish I could get it faster. The 21st Century can do like 14mph, but the
only chair shop my insurance uses will not sell those. Plus, it looks much
bigger. Still uses belt drives. Anyone know a faster one.

coming on Monday Aug. 5th in the afternoon ... nothing, no show and now
phone call.
I don't want to get on their bad side and complain but WHERE IS MY
CHAIR?
I'm tempted to cam my insurance company, but then again I don't want to
get on the suppliers bad side.

The chair I'm in now is about to fall apart, I REALLY NEED this new chair.
I have an appointment at Kessler for Aug. 22nd as a follow-up for my new
chair ... maybe I should just wait till then?

I called my supplier today (Tuesday) and they said NOTHING about not showing up
Monday. But said somebody will be at your home Thursday afternoon around 2:00
with your chair.
I have special foot plates that must be adjusted just so, and shoe holders
that need to be put on as well. I just hope they send someone who knows what
their doing being this is the very first time I'm dealing with this supplier.

When a chair is shipped by Pride, a pro number is sent to the DME for
tracking and tracing an order. I can receive that same pro number and track
an order from the time it leaves the factory all the way to the DME. I can
tell exactly when it was delivered and who signed the receipt. Tracking
is so easy. After your chair is received. It must be unpacked and tested,
while the batteries are charged over night. Only then can your DME call
and advise you that it will be shipped. I would call in the morning and ask
if the driver got sick. That happens sometimes, but someone should have
notified you. That is just good business practice.

It doesnt matter at this point why he didnt show up if he gave you another day
he is coming. I sincerely doubt things will be right the first time with the
chair. Its almost more productive if you can go to where the chair is and if
its not right, its not as big of a problem. What happenned to me was the guy
that delivered my chair knew nothing about what was ordered and was juat a
middle man with a couple tools with no way to fix big issues. The person that
delivers your chair will promise anything to get you to take the chair and
sign. Problem with that is he will conveniently forget about promises and leave
you as a troublemaker. When delivery is made, dont get angry, but at the same
time do not accept unless it is right for you.

Monday. But said somebody will be at your home Thursday afternoon around 2:00

I have special foot plates that must be adjusted just so, and shoe holders
that need to be put on as well. I just hope they send someone who knows what
their doing being this is the very first time I'm dealing with this supplier.

Give yourself some time to adjust to the new chair before you do anything
drastic.  Every time I've changed to a new powerchair I've hated it at first
and then have slowly grown to like it.  Do whatever adjustments you can to make
it fit you better, but don't give up on it too quickly.

I'm glad you enjoy it. If the paint looks violet, that's because they gave
you purple. When I ordered my Invacare years ago I wanted purple and it
came in violet and that's what they said was purple.

I've been working with my new chair for a month now and even though I'm
still having problems, I am slowly getting used to the differences. Its
been a hard time for me to learn how to use Magitek effectively with the
Permobile. Actually I don't think I'm real effective yet, but I am getting
better. Changing from the Peachtree to Magitek has been a heck of a change.
I really wish I could just get in a new chair and drive away without any
difficulties, but that's not the way it is for me.

I love the smooth ride of my TDX5 too. Though having once had the 21st
Century Bounder, I still find the TDX5 a bit slow. They are a bit bigger
than they seem to need be. I Hate the individual/independent power leg rests
on the TDX though. Each leg rest needing to plug in it's own built on motor.
It's big and bulky looking. I converted to a single post power leg rest.
Much better looking, but after a few years the belt it uses keeps slipping
and the foot plate drops about an inch lower than it is supposed to be. I
get it fixed and the next day they drop again. Time to order a new one.

My ex husband been made legrests for me like a sports Manual chair has-been
cut off the standard legrests about 4 inches down, and then made the one
piece bottom. My first chair was an arrow, second was an Invacare and my
present chair is a Omega trac-we have adapted the legrests for each chair.
I absolutely love it, as it keeps my feet together and looks much more
sleek. Good ideas

I have been very lucky with getting chairs. So far I've always got the chair
I wanted, including a Permobil. Though that was from a state insurance
program for uninsurable people with pre existing injuries. That was great
insurance, bought me a Permobil and a Surehands ceiling lift. Though the
premiums were a lot. Just as I was moving out of state so losing that
insurance, I got a TDX3 from them. I hated the electronics on that, the
jerky steering, the clanky electric legrests, the back hurt my shoulders a
lot. A year later with new insurance, I got a new TDX5, so much nicer. With
the same insurance still and the chair only 5 years old. I now might have to
wait awhile. It is breaking down a lot now. And with my back curving more. I
might need some major chair seat/back modifications. But I sure would like
11.6 mph.!

I'd love to take a chair to a motorcycle or car customizing shop. I'd cut a
bunch of needless stuff off, hide more wiring, maybe a custom cover over the
bottom half of the chair, a gps unit that could be tracked from a home
computer (incase of emergency), a flip down platform on the back a friend
could stand on, cstom legrests more like sport manual chairs, maybe a
armrest pad could flip open for a phone, etc.

If you no longer need things adjustable, you could make things much
smoother. Just make it to your size/.fit. My armrest, thigh pads, joystick
bar, have all kinds of knobs, nuts, etc that could be left off. There are so
many things that could be done to make chairs better looking.

I might have missed something as the rules for obtaining a new chair has
changed in the last 5 years. Just ask anyone who has received one. What
you want, you may not get or you may get more. Much depends on how well you
follow the protocol, with your doctor, occupational therapist, the DME's
ATS, they way the order is coded and pre-approval of CMS. I know of some
who were surprised at what they got and others complained. But there is
nothing wrong with starting a list and hoping that your doctor and CMS
agrees.

Re: [QUAD-L] New Chair?

2010-01-02 Thread Tod E. Santee
Greg,

I think 21st Century still makes the old style chairs with the 20 rear tires.
I had a new chair made in 2005 and RD said they had no plans to discontinue
them (though that WAS 5 years ago).

I find the smaller rear wheels getting me stuck in gravel, soft soil, etc. much
more often than the more narrow big tires. I specifically decided on the
smaller rear tires for just that reason and very quickly was disappointed!
It's either that or the weightdistribution with their group 27 batteries causes
the small, wide tires to dig in more... not sure.

If I was to get another, I'd be asking for the big rear again. (tires, that is)

Best!

 Greg g...@eskimo.com wrote:
Hopefully soon I can qualify for a new chair. For almost 20 years I've used
mid or front wheel chairs. My very first chair was a rear wheel, belt
driven, 21st Century. It was big, bulky, and pretty fast. Now I'm thinking
of going back to that chair. It's better looking now, though still not
great. It still uses belt drive. The rear wheel is not much bigger than the
front now, not that bike size wheel it used before. The front wheel is a bit
bigger than my mid wheel TDX5 uses. That's good for outside, maybe I wont
get stuck in gravel as often. Though wider tires might not be as good for
indoors. It says it goes 11.6, though with tilt, recline, and seat raiser,
that would slow it down some.

The Permobil X850 Corpus looks cool, best looking power chair I've seen. But
it only does 9 mph. It's just such a cool chair. It's like a mini car.

Maybe in the next year I can get one of these.
