vers=3.0 on the mount line in pCP. I would increase your synology

There are quite a few special characters in linux shell.A good rule
of thumb, if it is not alpha-numeric, there is a good chance it is a
special character. Either change your password, or do what kidstypike
has already highlighted.

The reason we don't do this by default..is that we are trying to
keep things as light as possible. The package cifs-utils.tcz has a boat
load of dependencies. NFS has a different set of complexities, which
requires careful server configuration (Which is why I steered you away
from that)

Is “homes” the correct name of the shared volume?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Help with LMS on NAS and PiCorePlayer

2022-04-16 Thread paul-

What Synology version are you running?

At this point, the easiest solution is probably to install LMS on the
RPI. And then network mount to the Synology using a CIFS share.

On the Synology:
1) In File Services, enable SMB. I think everything can stay default
2) In Shared Folder, find the Share that has your music on it. Edit
it, and goto permissions. Make sure your user account has read/write
access (Write is only needed for saving playlists)
3) You need to know the IP address of the NAS, and then the name of
the share as seen in the Shared Folder listing.

Then on pCP Web interface.
1) Dont install LMS yet.
2) Scroll down, and Install Additional Filesystem Support
3) Then in the Network Disk Mount, Enter fields
a) mount point, some simple generic name to mount the
music...i.e. Music
b) IP address of your NAS
c) Share name from your NAS Shared folder listing.
d) Share type CIFS
e) Username/Password, This is from your synology device of a user
that has permission to the Shared Volume on the NAS.
f) In options, put this. vers=3.0,uid=1001,gid=50
g) Increase the Max Wait time to 300 or so (This needs to be long
enough for your NAS to startup from a power outage)
h) Save it.

Once the network is mountedthen you can go ahead and install LMS.
Make sure you have expanded your file system plently large enough. a
750gb music partition could easily use 5-10gb of space while optimizing
the database.

It needs to be a SlimDevices or Logitech branded player for it to work
because they are what Logitech has the agreement from Pandora to use.
Working with a different device via sync is a fortunate side-effect of
having a real player in the sync group.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS upgrade help please

2022-02-18 Thread Paul Webster

If your Squeezelite is being run as part of a piCorePlayer (pCP)
installation then adding LMS to it is straight-forward from the web
interface (make sure the "player/server" or "beta" tab is selected at
the bottom of the page ... and then go to the LMS tab).

The disk with the music is better to connect via cable (USB or Ethernet
if a NAS) but WiFi could be OK for playing but might be slow for
scanning.

You might need help in getting the disk mounted if a NAS but once done
it should work very well - especially if your RPi has 1GB memory or
more.

The lmsupdate script is completely external to the sections of pCP code
that changes the mounting. Assuming you are using a farily recent pCP.
There is really no way for that to happen, except to accidentally
change it while you had a mounting error. The likely cause was a
mounting error due to a power outage. The NAS will boot much slower
than your pCP device and you will end up with a mount error. And while
investigating you accidentally changed it.

With a synology nas, the network wait timeout of 30 is quite a bit too
small. You likely need 50-80

If you have a space in the field (e.g. after the comma) try taking it
out.
(and 1.0 is valid for CIFS but 1 is probably not - so it might generate
an error when it tries to mount using it)

If the mount command is failing then it will not be able to access the
music files - which implies that the playlists etc are not on the NAS
(or at least not at that mount point).

The NAS could be blocking it (access rights) or you probably have
incorrect parameters in the mount command.

What do you see in the pCP configuration screen?

It is 4 different CDs to be played at the same time.
If you queue CD1 to player1 and CD2 to player2 etc ... then you cannot
use sync because they are not playing the same thing.

Broadly ... yes.

In fact you can run it from anywhere that has curl ... which might be
easiest on the system running LMS.
You could then change the IP address that it is targetted at to be
localhost or 127.0.0.1 which means that you don't need to know the IP
address since it is the same machine.

Also - yes - do replace the 00 with whatever LMS says is the "Player MAC
Address" on the Information screen.

Might it work if you set an alarm on each - with each one launching a
different CD.
I suspect that they would not be close enough to each other ... but
might be OK if they are LMS controlled devices (e.g.
SB1/SB2/SB3/Transporter).

Otherwise a script that does not wait for the response from LMS (fire
and forget) might get them going within a couple of tenths of a second.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Set prerred server?

2022-02-07 Thread Paul Webster

I brought up the same thing a while back when I ran a 2nd LMS so that I
could more easily work on plugin testing while someone else is listening
to stuff.
I agree that it is a bit of a pain.
Squeezelite and bridges migrate to the LMS that they can find if the one
that they were connected to disappears (e.g. restart on plugin update).

Setting the IP address in Squeezelite is a possible way of doing things
- but I have held off doing it because I have held off assigning IP
addresses to things (even in router) unless it is essential.
My reasoning behind this in a bit of a stretch but I like the idea that
I could change the IP address of the network (e.g. pick up the equipment
and move it to another building and it would, mostly, work).
Of course, other things that I have put in place (e.g. a router behind
the ISP router and even AirPort Express sitting in a travel bag
pre-configured as an access point with same SSID/passphrase as home)
mean that this is almost never going to be an issue ...

It might be ifconfig

Take a look at the IP address, netmask and DNS address - and compare it

I think that the Radio with "old" firmware will not connect to LMS 8
until LMS 8.3 when a patch was made.
However, I think in that situation (where it spots LMS with a version
number that it thinks is too high) the Radio would give a useful message

Can you try to force it by going to "My Music" and telling it to use

scraping" - and it looks like the audio link is not predictable from the
data the higher up page so it would mean fetching the linked page and
then parsing it etc etc

Starting from their EPG (for example
https://www.ndr.de/kultur/programm/epg1482_display-all_date-2022-01-16.html
) might be a good way in since it would get you to all of their
programmes ... and if done in a LMS plugin then it would make it
possible to navigate by day etc.

Try to play this as a stream URL

If that works then you might be able to predict the URL for other shows,
otherwise maybe someone could make a plugin that parses their data.

Looks like it has moved you to IPv6 ... and LMS does not like it.

Code:

nameserver fe80::4ec5:3eff:fec9:84dc%eth0 invalid and ignored

Maybe if your tell your LMS server to use an IPv4 DNS (like 1.1.1.1 or
8.8.8.8) then it might spring into life.

If that is the problem then feel like LMS changes for IPv6 will need to
be done - if only to side-step it for now.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Some Basic advice on which branch of LMS to be on

2022-01-07 Thread Paul Webster

1. In PiCore I see the Select Branch options of Release; Stable and
Development. Is it as simple as selecting the branch and then "update
LMS"?

Yes

2. I assume Release is 8.2.0, Stable is 8.2.1 Development 8.3.0

Yes

3. Can I move freely between these branches or is there no going back
without a new install from scratch. eg. If I went to Stable I would be
prevented from returning to Release, or if I went for the development
branch no return to stable or release.

At the moment ... Yes you can move between them - but that is not
guaranteed for the future

4. Given my low level of knowledge ( pretty much non existent on Linux)
am I just asking for trouble in moving at all do you think.

No - but Stable is good unless there are specific new features that you
are expecting to see in Development.

Make sure you save your old and working XML file ... then try an manual
export and see if it works.
https://djtechtools.com/2019/10/10/update-to-catalina-heres-how-to-manually-export-your-music-app-as-xml/

If a manual export does not give you something that works then
automating that simple export is not going to help much.

If the export function does give something that is somewhat close to the
old iTunes format then it might be possible for someone with a Mac to
write a script to reprocess it to make it work ... or someone else could
write some Perl and put it in LMS to import that revised format.

Someone with a Mac and some technical skills has to come along.

Is the access point the same device that you used to test the ethernet?
Could there be more than one DHCP server in the network?

No need to stop/start LMS when changing log levels ... plus, if you did
not set the flag to say persist the settings then those log levels will
have been reset when you started LMS.

Next ... wired v wireless ... how are the SB devices connected (should
not be an issue because they managed to get an IP address via DHCP)?
Try changing the connection type - and if too far away from the router
for a wired connection then move the SB unit temporarily.

The hyper pixel uses the dpi interface, so it uses a bunch of pins on
the interface. I have not checked if it consumes pins needed by the
Dac. A USB Dac would work fine.

There are many waveshare options, but every screen is different, and
uses different drivers. It’s hard to keep track of them…..and then
there are different rev levels on the boards that use different drivers
too. The specific waveshare you linked, you need to check pinouts on
the heard for the touch function….. and need to research the needed
touch driver.

Have you looked at the waveshare threads on the forum?

There are many that work, but the drivers are completely manual, and
support is poor. But if you are willing to do some tinkering, then
there are provisions in pCP for custom setup routines for offbrand
screens.

What size screen do you want?

I have a setup with
https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/hyperpixel-4?variant=12569485443155.
Which works nicely, but it uses most of the 40pin rpi header, so if you
want a DAC Hat, then its not the right choice.

But yes, skin support can be tricky if you are using touch. The
resolution 800x480 is the resolution needed for the Grid Skin. If you
just want display, then there are other resolutions that work fine.

It is a log file of LMS.
Did you open it up to see what the date was of the first entry in it?
If it was ancient then it might have simply grown over time and LMS has
not been restarted for ages.

If you look at the end of the file and scroll backwards ... are there a
lot of repeated events over a short period?
If yes ... then would need to work out the cause.

I think the file is cycled on restart.

If you simply deleted it rather than copying it to somewhere else with a
lot of free space then you will have to wait until it happens again to
investigate further.

Another RPi supporter here ... sorry ... but some ideas might help as

I've setup a RPi Zero 2W as an LMS for travel over Christmas.

I also prepared a very old Apple Airport Express and configured it as a
wired access point. It has the same WiFi SSID and passphrase as the home
setup so it should mean that it simply has to be connected via Ethernet
to the router at the destination location and then everyone who already
has their phone & laptop configured to access the home network will
automatically connect in the Christmas location - both for internet and
music. Also sending a battery powered AirPlay device which should also
automatically connect to the familiar WiFi.

The LMS will connect via WiFi but if Ethernet (I have USB to Ethernet
hub) is in a convenient location (eg near a TV) then will probably
switch it to wired and use HDMI out as an extra player from the LMS
device. In this set-up it might be necessary to fiddle with network
addresses but only needed if too much WiFi traffic for stable play.

On Windows ... LMS puts files in particular places so you would have to
use command line parameters to put them in places it can access (rather
than ProgramData).

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS losing subfolders after a few days Windows 10

With a standard LMS on Windows it is difficult to get at the source code
to insert diagnostics

The code around that log message is:

Code:

  if (!blessed($topLevelObj) || !$topLevelObj->can('path') ||
!$topLevelObj->can('id')) {

logError("Couldn't find a topLevelObj!");

return ();
}

So I suppose it would help to find out which of those conditions is
making it drop into the error handler.

My suggestion was not about you changing the way that you use things in
general - but to see if LMS is able to access the folders via the
information that is held in the library database (assuming you have
scanned the files and they have useable tags).
If LMS can play the files via this music library route on reboot and
then can still do it when it is failing when you navigate by folder then
it might help in the diagnosis.

Can each individual speaker be reached via AirPlay?
If yes - then you could installed the Groups plugin and then set up some
groups ...
e.g.
"Zone 1" = "AirPlay Speaker 1" and "AirPlay Speaker 2"

Then you send the music to LMS player "Zone 1" and both AirPlay speakers
should play with the synchronisation managed by LMS through the AirPlay

Modern iTunes is reported as no longer producing the XML file
automatically.
In any case - take a look inside it with a text editor and you will see
the way that the path to the files is written.
LMS needs to be able to read the files. The iTunes XML is simply a
listing showing where to find them.

So you will need to share out the file system where the files are stored
so that the system where LMS is can mount it.
That is the first step that you will need to do whether or not you use
the iTunes XML.

Looks like it is not there.
So - set it again via Alsamixer and then

sudo alsactl store
pcp bu

That still might not restore on a reboot but I think you can make pCP
restore the settings that alsactl saved by using the pCP ALSA Mixer
control (pCP web interface) to make a change then it will know that you
have customised things and will do a "alsactl restore" on reboot.
You might have to make the Alsamixer & store & bu steps one more time
after that if using the pCP ALSA Mixer interface resets things.

My guess is that it requires it to talk AirPlay 2 which the bridge

If you click on the Browse button in the Import function you should see
that it is browsing the file system where LMS is running - that is the
pCP server in your case.

So you can transfer the file to somewhere that pCP can see.
For example you could:
- use scp (via WinSCP perhaps) to copy it to /home/tc
or
- enable SAMBA in pCP and then copy to it using Windows File Explorer
or
- copy it to the same place as your music file (assuming pCP LMS is
accessing local music)

If it does then it shows the skin is working and it is a networking

Maybe Windows firewall is blocking access (unlikely if remote players

169.254 is the prefix used for an automatic assignment of an IP address
when DHCP lookup fails.

As for the rest ... I don't know the answer but can you simply delay the
LMS startup until a 192.168 IP address has been assigned or the router
can be pinged ... or failing that just make it wait N seconds.

The typical way to do this it for wait-for-network in systemctl startup
but I don't know if that treats a 169.254 as the network being
available.

Do you have blocking enabled in Settings/Advanced/Security ?

Maybe your new ISP has supplied a new router and your local IP addresses
have changed from something like 192.168.0.xxx to 10.0.0.xxx and some
old filtering rules that you had in place no longer work.

However, you are on Windows ... so maybe it has flagged your current IP
connection as not being at home - so it is preventing connections.
