Re: JAWS question

2018-05-23 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Marten:

The JAWS key is the insert key by default or the capslock key if you
have set it that way.
The key to read from the cursor position to the bottom of the
document is insert + down arrow.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

retiring from MSC in June

2018-05-09 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Rod:

I am retiring from my job at Microscience Centre in June, between the
middle of June and the end of June.

Barouch has asked me to suggest people who would re[lace me.

It strikes me that you would be the type of person, with all your
knowledge of Screen Reading software and, related matters, to do the
job.
Would you be interested?
The only issue is that they would like the candidate to know braille,
if possible,

If you are interested in the job, or know someone else who has the
technical knowledge and would be interested, would you please contact
me at
kev...@microscience.on.ca or contact Barouch at:

Re: google chrome

2017-12-15 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi:

I do have one question.
Is there a way that I can control if podcasts are downloaded or just saved?
For example. if someone sends me a link to a podcast and I click on
the link, I would like to be able to choose if I want to save the
podcast or just listen to it. Currently, Google Chrome just gives me
the dialog about where I want to save the podcast. Firefox, for
example, will ask me if I want to open it or save it
A good example of what I am talking about is the Eyes On Success
newsletter, www.eyesonsuccess.net. Find a link to one of the episodes
and press Enter on it. Firefox will ask me whether I want to open it
or save it, whereas Google Chrome will just assume that I want to save
it.

I would just go ahead and reinstall WeForOffice.
In the long run, you save time because you will not have to try
something, have it not work and then try again.

You may have to redownload it from the website. I did that not too
long ago, because I wanted to make sure that the website still exists
and that I have a copy of the istallation file in case the website is
taken down by the folks at VFO.

Re: We certificates

2017-11-14 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Bernie:

OK. I will make another attempt at answering your question as I was
not quite awake the first time.
If you have a valid license for Microsoft Office version 10 or higher, you can
run Window-eyes for Office and it will work perfectly. If it does not
find a valid license, it will run in Demo mode.

You can find all the information on www.windoweyesforoffice.com.

Re: How to use Google Drive

2017-11-07 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Larry:

One way you can share a file is to go to the Google Drive site,
www.drive.google.com. Then you find the list of files, highlight the
one you want to share, then backtab a few times until you get to the
Share button, and, depending on which screen reader you are using, it
should say the name of the file that is being shared when you backtab
to that button. then you can press the spacebar to activate the button
and it should ask you for the address you want to share it with.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I just talked to Hal from VFO. He called me and left me a message.
 Anyway
he told me about a program that VFO already has in place for people
 who
need low-cost jaws. He told me this is a special program and for
> some
reason its not advertised on their website but he said he would
 make
 a note
to at least get information about it posted up there. So here is
 what he
said. For people who cannot afford jaws, you call in and through
 this jaws
affordability program for $125 you get jaws home version with 0
 smas. But
if you pay $225 you get jaws home version with two smas. When I am
 done
with Christmas and stuff I'm gunna take advantage of this for sure!
 I also
suggested to hal about a program to activate jaws on a monthly
 basis, $225
comes down to $12 per month. He said he would make a note of that
 also. So
yes folks low cost jaws does exist. get more info by calling:

 1-800-444-4443 extension 1101

This news is very exciting! in a year or so my son will probably be
 doing
more advances stuff with microsoft office and Jaws will probably be
 needed
because it works good with that office suite. I am glad that low
 cost jaws
 really exists.

Re: window-eyes open source?

2017-09-14 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi:
Also, if you wanted to make the Window-eyes code open source, you
would have to wait 5 or 10 years until the copywright expires,
assuming there is a copywright, but by that time, the code would be so
old that it would probably be totally useless.

Hi:
Insert-h will list all the key commands. It also works on the desktop
or probably anywhere else that you want to use it.

Re: not getting at my home e-mail

2017-08-29 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Richard:

Another thing to do if you are not getting your messages in your inbox
is to check your spam. One time a few years back I couldn't figure
out why I wasn't receiving messages from this list, and the tech
people at AI Squared couldn't figure it out either, but somebody did
suggest that I check my spam folder and, sure enough, there they all
were. I just moved them back to my inbox and had no problem ever
since. Of course, how you make them come to your inbox again depends
on the email client that you use.

Hi mrChikodinakaOguledo

My advice is that you'd better save that add-on and probably back it
up or something, because, eventually, the GWMicro.com website or
anything you use on that website, because, just as Window-eyes and
GWMicro are dead, that website will probably be killed at some point
in the future.

the inauguration of Window-eyes

2017-08-22 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi:
I remember when Window-eyes was first announced. It was at Closing
The Gap in minneapolis Minnesota in Odctober of that year and I was
there for the announcement. I even got a guided tour of the first
release in the GW Midcro booth. Either Doug or Dan, whichever one
gave me a tour asked me how I liked it and I pointed out a key
conflict with a Windows hotkey.
I was still using JAWS then and it was made by HenterJoyce, before
they got eaten up by Freedom Scientific. Funny how history repeats
itself.

Re: nfl game pass

Hi Alan:

I just want to comment that I have been blind all my life, so I am
used to references such as "look at that". I just don't pay attention
and I am not the least bit offended. When they say "look at that. He
dropped the ball." I know that he dropped the ball and that's all I
need to know. But of course, that's only my point of view and I guess
I can understand why many people do not share that point of view.

Re: been a great ride

2017-08-01 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Sky:

As somebody who works for a vendor in Canada, I can tell you with
absolute certainty that we never told that to anyone. I will admit
that some of my coworkers were under that impression at first, but I
let them know, and showed them if necessary, that that was not the
case.

It may very well be that your experience with the vendors that you
have dealt with tells a different story, I wouldn't be at all
surprised, but I know that not all vendors did that. In fact, when I
wanted to upgrade to Windows 9 and get an SMA, my coworker suggested
that it would be cheaper to upgrade Microsoft Office to the latest
version and then download the free version of Window-eyes.

Hi:

Let's face it. The Window-eyes ship is sinking and VFO is offering us
a lifeboat, albeit for a limited time, so unless you want to go down
with the ship, or try to swim through the ocean, you'd better grab a
spot in one of the available lifeboats, (I.E. JAWS, NVDA, etc.
Not that i don't use Window-eyes myself, but I am using NVDA more and
more and when I get my JAWS license, I will probably use Window-eyes
less and less. She was a good ship, but she's gone now. Thanks to
that big iceberg, the VFO takeover.

Re: winamp with jaws.

2017-07-20 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Tony:

As I remember from using JAWS in the past, there oare ways to make it
stop talking as much. One way is to go to the JAWS submenu, press
Enter on Options, then Basics. In that dialog, there is an item
called "tutor messages announce, which is on by default. Just uncheck
the box to turn it off.
There may be other ways to minimize the amount of speech, but I don't
know off the top of my head.

home versus professional

Hi:

I am going to register for the Window-eyes to JAWS offer, but I want
the home adition, not the pro edition.
Since my order has not been processed yet, I thought that I would get
a head start. So I downloaded the non-tandem version of the JAWS
Demo because I thought it was the home edition. When I run it,
however, it says "JAWS professional. I looked again onn the
download page,
page of the FS website and there I found no demo of the Home edition.
How can I download a demo of the Home edition?

Re: jaws latest release

2017-07-13 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Brice:

You just have to look at the version number. If it is 178 point
something, and you have 18 point something lower, then it is free. If
you are looking to update from version 17 to version 18, then it is
not, unless you have an MSA.
As I understand it, they put out a free upgrad every month, then they
put out a major upgrade once a year which you have to pay for if you
do not have an MSA.
I hope you can follow me.

Re: OT about MLB game day audio

2017-07-06 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi BK:

I too have Gameday Audio and I have found that Firefox is not totally
reliable. Try Google Chrome.
By the way, what I do is that I play it through the AtBat app on my
IPhone. If you have an Android phone instead, you could probably do
the same thing. It is always reliable, but you should have a WI-FI
connection otherwise, your phone bill could go through the roof.

The Read To End command is insert+down arrow if you're keyboard is in

Re: Reenabling the Thunderbird App

2017-06-27 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Matthew:
Here are the steps to associate that set file with Thunderbird
1. Run Thunderbird.
2. Go to the Window-eyes control pannel.
3. Arrow down to Associations.
4. Since it is a pullddown menu, press the Right Arrow key to open it.
5. Arrow down to Current Association.
6. Tab once to Current Association and type in the set file name, in
this case, the Thunderbird set file.
7. Tab again and you will get to a Radio button with three options,
right the default is None. Choose the option you want.
8. Tab to OK and press the Enter key.
I hope this helps.

Re: Reciprocal Idea

2017-06-13 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi:

First of all, there is a method of remapping the JAWS keys to whatever
you want, but to remap all of them would take up a lot of time and
effort on your part and you would have to be verry careful that you do
not override existing hotkeys.

Secondly, I'm not even sure that a Window-eyes keyboard layout in JAWS
is even a good idea. In fact, when Window-eyes came up with its JAWS
keyboard layout, it couldn't really mimick the JAWS keyboard because
of the difference in how Window-eyes was constructed versus the way
JAWS was constructed. For example, in Window-eyes, as we all know,
the numpad arrow keys move the mouse pointer while the dedicated arrow
keys move the cursor, or the highlight, depending on which application
you are using. But in order to move the mouse pointer in JAWS, you
have to go into "JAWS Cursor Mode".

2017-05-30 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Jim:

That makes a lot of sense, but since not everything is contained in
one menu system like Window-eyes, one has to know which menu to find
things like changing whether you want the name of a key that you do
not want spoken, or controling the speed or volume of your
synthesizer. Of course, that wouldn't be too hard to learn. Having
said that, although am a window-eyes user, I still am quite familiar
with JAWS. I have to be, for my job as a trainer.

That is true for some of us. I migrated from JAWS to Window-eyes in
the 1990s and it wasn't so dificult for me, but some people on the
list do need some assistance and there are choices for that.
I wonder if anyone has actually compared Brian's tutorial with Rau's
tutorials and if so, could someone give the list a report on their
findings.

2017-05-30 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Steve:

I quite agree. Brian does quite a few of these types of tutorials I
think and there is probably a cost associated with it so he has to
recover that cost somehow.
Yes, I know that Raol has done some moduals, and they are verry good,
but maybe some people would rather hear it from Steve.

Re: Fw: [BlindTech] New Blog Post: Will VFO Acquire NV Access?

2017-05-30 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Russ and all.
I haven't read the blog yet but this reminds me of when Freedom
Scientific bought out Henterjoyce, maker of JAWS, Blazie Engineering,
maker of braille nottakers and Arkenstone, maker of the Arkenstone
Scanner. There were fears and lots of rumors that Freedom Scientific
would try to by out GW Micro, but we all know that that never
happened.

Re: Might be useful for new JAWS users

2017-05-30 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Steve:

I didn't know about the touch cursor until a few days ago when I
listened to Jonathan Mozen's podcast where somebody described it. Up
until then, I would have avoided it, since I had assumed that it was
only for computers with touch screens.
I think that that might have been what they intended it to be in the
beginning, but it morphed into something more useful for all JAWS
users

The reason why those links didn't work because the last part of each

The list is in JAWS Help. Go to the JAWS Control panel by pressing
insert-j and then press alt-h to get to the help menu. If you arrow

"keyboard commands", press the Enter key and you will be presented

If you really want a laugh, go to Youtube and type "computer scams" in

In a couple of cases, the caller is stringing the scammer along, until
the scammer wants the money, then the caller informs him that he is
being recorded and the recording will be uploaded to youtube. Then
the scammer hangs up.

Re: JAWS

2017-05-23 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Don:

I remember when I switched from JAWS to Window-eyes all those years
ago,, the neater interface was one of the main reasons that I
switched, as well as not having to change to a different mode when I
wanted to use the Mouse cursor, or JAWS cursor. But that's all in the
past now and we will all get used to the JAWS way of doing things.

Re: jaws observations.

2017-05-23 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Charles:

It is interesting that you say Window-eyes is more intuitive. Of
course, I tend to agree with you after Window-eyes has been my main
screen reader for fifteen years, but I have heard several longtime
JAWS users say that JAWS is more intuitive than Woindow-eyes, so the
word intuiitive is a relative term I guess.

Re: where do I go?

2017-05-18 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Jim:

OK. To answer your question about the mouse keys, you have to go into
JAWS Cursor mode. If you have a keyboard with a numberpad, press the
numpad minus key.

Yoou can read the document by pressing JAWSKey+ down arrow. The
JAWSKey is either the numpad insert key, if you have a numberpad, or
the capslock key. I forget whre you set it, so I'm not much help
there.
I cannot answer your other questions.

Hi Brian:

Unfortunately, you are right.

See if NVDA will work for you.
Its actually really good and improvements are being made to it all the
time. If you know of a feature wgwhich you like to have included, you
can request that feature and will work as hard as they can to include
it. Since the software is opensource, there ara a number of users who
contribute to the source code.

Hi Grumpy Dave.
You have every right to be grumpy. Unfortunately, there wiill always
be, and have always been people who think that they can/should get
what they want through demanding. I have always found, through
highschool, university and then in my job, a good attitude and
approach towards others will make them want to help you, but
apparently, some people don't get that and never will.

Re: Jaws Questions

2017-05-18 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Pastor:

First, if you go to the JAWS window and enter on Options, then arrow
down to Voices and press Enter, you will have a menu with two items, I
think one is make the change for all applications and the other one is
Make the change for the current application.
Since I do not have a full copy of JAWS yet, I cannot be 100 percent
sure. After you have chosen one of those items, there is a dialog box
and the Punctuation settings should be there if you tab to it.

The sJAWS ReadAll command is JAWSkey plus down arrow.

Re: Window-Eyes users in the UK

2017-05-16 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Ian:

One option is to use NVDA, from NVAccess. I am sure that you may be
aware of it.
I have been using it for several years as a backup for Window-eyes, in
cases hwhere Window-eyes doesn't work. It is free of charge but you
can make a donation
It is also open source software so if you can program in Python, you
can participate in the development of the product, either by proposing
changes in the main program or writing Addons, which the user can
choose to install or not.

Another choice is a package from Serotech called System Access from
Sertech. I don't know anything about that accept that you pay a small
amount per year, like a subscription.

The other option is to continue to use your copy of Window-eyes with
the understanding that there will not be any further development on
the product, but.

Re: FW: whole migrating situation

2017-05-16 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Richard:

We have to realize that Change happens whether we like it or not, and
we have to get used to it. Many people did not like when DOS was
fazed out, if you remember, but we had to adapt and most of us did.

I don't think that anybody intentionally sold anybody down the river.
It's just that big companies eat up smaller companies. That's the way
it is.

Hi Don:

The JAWS 40 minute demo, as with the Window-eyes 40 minute demo, is
meant to test hthe software's features, and to help you decide if you
want to buy the software. Don't try to do any real work with it.

 Hi everyone,

I'm not sure whether anyone has noticed, but many, if not all of the
GW Micro apps are being updated to reflect the merge with AI Squared.

 Hth,

Hi Russ:

As was said, the version numbers for most of the updates have not
change so you have to update manually.

Re: FW: Membership Problem

2017-04-13 Thread Kevin Huber via Talk
Hi Peter:

I have had to do that from time to time. The first time, I had no
idea what happened. I kept sending test messages to the list, and
they would be answered, then iI called GW Support who determined that
I was still subscribed to the list and that there is no reason why I
shouldn't be receiving my messages. Then I looked in my spam folder
and there they were. I moved every one of them back to the inbox and
my messages started coming to me again.
iI have no idea why this happens, but it is a simple fix.
