 Well, TB did install its shortcuts in the Start menu alright, but I was

 feature you're mentioning with regards to the start menu and desktop
 shortcuts etc., but I didn't know that items in the control panel/arp

 Is this maybe a bug in the TB MSI installation, or a feature?

I dont know whether this is relevant as at the time of writing this I
am only half awake. When I tried to install the MSi over the Alpha, it
didnt work. Had to go back to the previous beta version.

I'm not running the Alpha. But I know that in the Search window, it

Original. I find Locate Original more intuitive.

Hello Alexander,

 But see my sig now, and I still see 'Locate original'.

 As Peter Meyns pointed out, it may have to do with installed languages

No I don't use Int pack either.

ASK Is this maybe a bug in the TB MSI installation, or a feature?

I guess it could be either depending on which side of the issue you

an elegant resolution.

Guten Tag Alexander S. Kunz,

 Well, even though I don't have an IMAP account its good to hear that TBs
 IMAP is getting somewhere.

That most definitly lies in the eye of the beholder. I haven't tested
the Alpha but the last final is as problematic as ever, in IMAP and
everywhere else (runtime errors, won't close, principal functions
not working and erratic behaviour in general).

And I'd be willing to bet a butt and a nickel that the good ole'
view-mode-bug is still in there.

For my own, I'm staying at v3.0.1.33 for it is the last working
version. Professionally, I'm working on phasing out TheBat from our
network. It has proven to have been a bad choice: From my viewpoint
TheBat is definitly not getting ANYwhere.

Looking at this issue a bit more closely I think TB is not doing the

associations. In my case, I have tried with *.png, *.jpg and *.gif, and
for these file types it is the Windows (XP) images and fax viewer.

Well, even though I don't have an IMAP account its good to hear that TBs

But, having said that, I don't see how a propper IMAP implementation
affects the speed of rendering the graphics of a window opening/closing.

Maybe it has a check like is there an IMAP account that needs to do
something? per line drawn onto the screen? ;-)

This slow gfx rendering adds a lot to the experience of TB to me (it
used to feel quick and snappy back then), and the slowness that
creeped into the code somewhere in the 3.5x series is the one issue that
keeps annoying me, and I will keep moaning about until its fixed. (and
if that may take forever, so be it - ha!;-)

D Really? I'm having no problems using TB! with IMAP and SSL.

I reported this earlier, 3-4 weeks ago. I have a remote server that only
accepts SSL connection... the SSL cert has just expired... The cert is in my
root TB! chain, has been for years. TB! will not allow me in, even though I
(or anyone) must authenticate. That IMAP server does not allow port 143,
regular connection, just dedicated SSL IMAP on port 993.

Since the cert has been good for two years, just recently expired, TB! has
decided it will not allow the connection... Every other IMAP client on the
planet allows me to connect except TB! I do not like it when an email client
tells me what it will or will not accept in an SSL connection, not putting
that decision in the user's hands. It seems to forget that I must
authenticate anyway. Since I cannot connect to this IMAP server, I cannot
use TB! The address book, trusted CA should not dictate whether to accept
the connection just because the cert is out of date. That is my decision.

Curtis has mentioned it long ago in this forum, several times, as have I,

not start at all if the user is smoking a cigarette, another unsafe action.

they let me choose to permanently accept any cert...

Can't, the remote server is configured only for IMAP with SSL only (port
993), not 143 standard which is not even opened in the firewall.

Wouldn't it be easier to just let the customer decide. This has nothing to
do with unsafe actions, just some fine tuning of programming the Address
book / trusted root CA to not block expired certs. We are not talking about
a root cert for e-commerce doing credit card transactions here..

Please download Stunnel from http://www.stunnel.org/download/binaries.html ,

where you installed stunnel.exe:

client = yes
debug = debug

connect = imaps.myisp.com:993
[smtps]
accept = 127.0.0.1:25

In The Bat! account properties, specify 127.0.0.1 and Regular connection.

If the server requires Secure to regular port (STARTTLS), then use the
following data in stunnel.conf, [smtps] section:

[smtps]
accept = 127.0.0.1:25
connect = smtps.myisp.com:25
protocol = smtp

The Bat! is an email client that is used by many professionals. The
balance would be there if you allowed these people to accept a
certificate that has expired, they know what they are doing. Hide it
under Advanced Options if you are afraid my mother would use it.

The current behaviour does not feel safe, it feels like nannying and
is certainly not appreciated by the professionals. Especially since
they can easily switch to another product and become your ex-customers
and ex-promoters.

Being pedantic has its advantages, and TB! is certainly a good
product. However, you have to be a bit realistic about what is out
there. This customer, for example, could not connect by normal port at
all, due to his company's security policy. He is clearly someone who
knows what he is talking about. Even if he wanted to, he cannot use
(or promote!) The Bat!.

Recommending a third software (stunnel) is certainly not the idea -
you are providing a work-around for your own restriction. What is the
point of the restriction then? I would also think it is certainly much
easier to just use another email-client with which you don't need to
tunnel.

Just my 2 satangs worth.

Delphi 7 (initial version) did contain bugs in the Code Optimizer and Borland

If we were using Delphi 7 without updates, then The Bat! worked propely (but
without Code Optimization for size and speed), if we did use Update 1 then
OTFE didn't work. We did compile this ALPHA with Delphi 2006 and hope the

I don't use OFTE, but I do have the impression this version works faster than
the previous one.

MM But this ALPHA is not yet well tested, please use it with caution and
MM let us know immediately of any problems that may ocur.

Except for the fact that it says it's an ALPHA (beta), I haven't found one
yet! :-)

Up and running with OTFE :-)
But when I tried to insert a smiley with the Insert Smiley button I got
messages Canvas does not allow drawing.
The program did not freeze but had to close several windows with this

Yes. Several of them.

Confirmed under 2000. Same as abovementioned. Had to use taskmanager to gain
control again...

ClipMate made a bugreport and Copernic Desktop wanted to send a bugfile too.

Do you mean that the problems with canvas did also exist in previous versions

Yes I had stopped testing it because (when it first appeared), the only
solution was to reboot, and I don't use the feature.

Must be reported in Bugtrack. I will take a look at it, but perhaps I will
have to do that tomorrow.

Shouldn't you be asleep?   :-)

I can't confirm too under XP SP2 with default icons set, no error appears.
Maybe using alternative icons causes this?

Can't reproduce. Tried in microed and in windows editor both in text
and HTML mode... Using WinXP SP2. Other things also seem to be working
well in this version. So far.

I've found a different, small bug, which also exists in previous
version: the middle of the window with smileys is always more or less
in the place where you click on a button. If a button is close to
right or bottom edge of a screen, then some part of the window is
beyond the edge. This should be prevented.

By the way: if there are more then just one smiley sets, perhaps it
would be a good idea to place them in adequate tabs within the window.

Hi,

I am using alternative icons but have no time at the moment to test
this. Will do that later!

Next to this behaviour this version is usable/workable for me..
In only have to insert a smiley manually ;-)
