I got it! E stands for Encrypted, right? My error was that I didn't rename
them as Messages.EBB/EBN.

It works. Messages with no body still have some header fields visible in the
header list, good.

Maybe Message/View source (F9) should work for no body messages too? It
doesn't, at the moment.

Is there a reason why Message/Copy to folder... doesn't work even when body is
available?

What I really miss since ever is drag and drop of whole folders between
different accounts. Migrating a folder tree to a different account with TB has
always been a pain in the ass.

Thank you.

I tried something like that, but database files in my IMAP account have
extensions .EBB and .EBN. How should I handle them?

Yeah, if connection with the server cannot be established, you need to operate
manually - it is possible copy .TBB and yyyy.TBN files of an IMAP
folder as Message.TBB and Messages.TBN of a local folder - they have the same
format. The only problem that could occur is absence of downloaded message body
or attachments...

Moving messages from a local database of an expired IMAP account to folders in a different account

2022-06-08 Thread Luca via TBUDL

I have an expired IMAP account with lots of messages in the local database. It
seems that I cannot move or copy any message to a folder in a different
account. The command "Message/Copy to folder..." doesn't work.

I can export/import messages via unix mailboxes actually, but is there a
quicker way?

I would like to use the database files directly with a different account, but
I don't know if that's possible.

Tnx.

How to delete a message in TheBat! while I am in IMAP mode of Gmail

2021-02-17 Thread Mica Mijatovic
Hello TBUDL,

I'm not very apt in working with IMAP, but this what I understand is
that if I chose to delete a message shown in The Bat, it should be
deleted from Gmail server too - if I have configured it so (which I
did).

Now, what I find interesting, and guess might be important, is when
TB! downloads messages from Gmail, it for each filter I have created
in Gmail, makes separate folder, with the name of the given filter,
and in this folder I can see the messages filtered by this rule.

Those messages I can see both in TB's Inbox, and in the given
mentioned folder. For instance, the messages from TBUDL folder I can
see both inside this folder and inside Inbox.

Then, if I delete some message in TBUDL folder, I notice that it is not
deleted from the Inbox! And vice versa. While, if I change status of a
message in Inbox, eg. to "Read", I see it is changed in "TBUDL" folder
too. Same is with using flags etc.

Then again, if I delete, in TB!, a message that has no a rule assigned
to, it happens with the copy of the message on Gmail www interface
too. And vice versa, which I recon is as it should be. The thing acts
normal, or as expected to. -- The question is: Why is this not the
case with the rest of the messages which are filtered out into those
mentioned folders? ★ More precisely: How could I make that if I delete
such a message from Inbox, it is deleted from related folder too, and
vice versa, and me not being caught in the silly gamboling right and
left from folder to folder and deleting one and the same messages
twice?

Thanks much (for stopping the show)!

Well all I can tell you is that I have several other IMAP connections to Gmail
which work fine and the Starred and Snoozed labels appear find in the Manage
IMAP folders dialog in TB. See attached.

Looking at the image you attached, what are you expecting to see in TB! from
the Gmail side? I've never tried using IMAP with Gmail, but I don't think think
"Starred" and "Snoozed" are folders, they're just Gmail filters. I'm not sure

You cannot switch an account. You have to create a new account, and create it
as an IMAP account.

I did this for testing earlier, and you can actually have two accounts in TB!
for the same email account at the same time: One being POP and the other being
IMAP.

This sounds like just what I'd like to do. Can't seem to find the
option, though. Could you please let me know where to set this up in
the options? Thanks!

Haven't yet set up all my templates in this new installation, so it's
not showing my TB version at the moment. I'm using v9.1.16.

This system works real well. My main computer is POP and all my mobile

Couldn't you have "best of both" by using IMAP but having TB! copy all
messages to a local archive folder? That way, you could have the local
message store but still access all of your email from multiple devices
using a proper mail client. Or am I missing something?

Between IMAP, POP and Exchange, Exchange is the worst. My university
uses it, and I fought with it for a while, but was happy when I found
out that the Microsoft Exchange server now also supports IMAP and POP.
Besides, Exchange uses a proprietary protocol, and TheBat has no native
support for it (any more).

Yes, I also tried IMAP with one account for a while, just to get a
feel for it. I'm back to POP only. However, there are some people on
this list who prefer IMAP.

That's what I thought. I called my email server provider late last
night, and they were able to provide at least a partial solution for
the moment (restored email in that folder going back as far as 7
March, 2020 -- though I've been using this IMAP installation since
August, 2019). I'm still waiting to hear about what happened to the

Not gmail. Nor is it the account through which I'm sending this
message. It's on my own domain. It's a service I've had through
GoDaddy for many years now (POP3 until last August, when I decided to
give IMAP a try).

In any event, I'm happy to have the most recent emails restored, and
will see what happens in trying to recover the rest. Thanks for your
reply!

Hi,

I really don't know what happened, but all of a sudden, the main inbox
of my one IMAP account (my main email account!) is EMPTY!

Is there any way to recover all those emails?

Whenever I try restoring from a backup made yesterday only results in
the maintenance center going into "not responding" mode (this was
happening before all this as well -- I've not yet been able to restore
at all).

Please, please tell me there's a way to recover all these lost email

Connection Center in IMAP

2019-09-26 Thread Thomas Fernandez
Hi TBUDL,

I have installed my first IMAP account. So far so good.

Under Workspace / Connection Center, the CC is set to show
Automatically, which for POP means that it shows when checking and
then disappears (hides) again.

For the IMAP account, it is open all the time. I manually hide it, and
then it opens again. That does make sense, because it keep the
connection open, but I don't want to see it all the time. Only when
something else than IDLE happens.

How do I achieve that?

When using IMAP, basic filtering (moving messages, auto-forwarding, marking
as read, flagging, ) is often performed on the server. Each service
provider has a different interface to filters. If, based on your email,
you're using GMX, they have documentation about how their filters work at
https://support.gmx.com/email/filter-rules/index.html#breadcrumb_help_email_filter-rules_about

If you're using a different provider, you'll need to check their help pages
for details.

The advantage of moving them to the server is that all your clients--from
multiple copies of The Bat! on different machines to your mobile phone--will
see the same messages in the same folders.

Oh - it is a complete recreation. Like I said, It took me ages. But I
had over 500,000 emails in what was my main pop3 account.

But it really was such a worthwhile exercise in terms of multi-device

That's because it's IMAP.

Wikipedia tells us (amongst other things) that:

When using POP, clients typically connect to the e-mail server briefly, only
as
long as it takes to download new messages. When using IMAP4, clients often
stay
connected as long as the user interface is active and download message
content
on demand. For users with many or large messages, this IMAP4 usage pattern
can
   result in faster response times.

and that:

IMAP4 clients need to maintain a TCP/IP connection to the IMAP server in
order
to be notified of the arrival of new mail.

So I think it just comes with the change in protocol

Oh no, here we go again...

When I first set up the new IMAP account, it instantly downloaded the
latest 26 messages, so I just assumed all was well. Since then, when I
try to check email for that new account, I'm just getting this, and
nothing more:

 8/26/2019, 12:48:55: IMAP - TLS handshake complete
 8/26/2019, 12:48:55: IMAP - Connected to IMAP server (imap.secureserver.net)

 8/26/2019, 12:48:55: IMAP - Authenticating (user:

8/26/2019, 12:48:55: IMAP - IMAP server authentication OK, server says "LOGIN

This is something I remember doing by dragging messages from the pop

Okay, as an experiment, I set up a "new account" (IMAP). It works.

Now, is there a way for me to transfer all my folders, filters, etc.

IMAP -- for dummies, please

2019-08-26 Thread Melissa Reese
Hello fellow Batters,

It's been a while since I've had to ask a question here, but now it
seems I'm going to be switching to IMAP after using POP3 forever.

I've been trying to set up my primary email account (not the one used
for this email list), but have been so far unsuccessful.

When I look at my settings after filling in all the supposed IMAP
stuff, it still says "Protocol: POP3". When I click on "Change", I'm
only presented with two options: "POP3" or "Exchange". I'm currently
using TB version 7.x.

When talking to the tech person at my email server provider, he said
"Don't use "Exchange".

Could someone please give me--or point to--all the proper settings I
need to get IMAP working in my TB? With thousands of messages in the
many folders of the account in question, I certainly don't want to
have to start a whole new account/folder and potentially lose all my
messages, which I refer to often when looking for something.

So far, the closest I've gotten is to "TLS handshake complete" -- then
nothing. No incoming email, even though I know there should be
incoming messages.

I would need the proper settings for the "Authentication" options as
well -- for both sending and receiving.

Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

I am used to POP for my accounts and IMAP on my iphone but on one pc I
have just started using IMAP with TB.
Everything seems to work but I noticed the TB Connection Centre
running and when I open this it shows the 5 accounts with elapsed time
and Transfer data in the top field and some running task in the bottom

On my regular pc running TB with POP accounts I have never seen this

Hi Feli,

thanks for the response. I don't even need to keep the emails as I
have them all on a different pc where I will continue to use POP.
On this new set up I am only interested in using IMAP and thought
there is way to change the setting so that in future for these email
accounts IMAP is used instead of Pop. Basically you say I need
to set up the accounts fresh as IMAP accounts - that's fine, just will
take a bit longer.

I have several addresses with POP and IMAP and they are all working.

Yes, there is. But if I uncheck that, the respective folder disappears
not only from

INBOX.MyFolder

but also from

MyFolder.

There is no listing of "MyFolder" in "Manage folders", only (!) of
"Inbox.MyFolder".

IMAP root folder

2018-10-14 Thread Alto Speckhardt
Hello,

I'm having trouble configuring TheBat v8.6 for a new IMAP account:

The Server (Dovecot) is presenting all folders within Inbox, e.g.

INBOX.Sent
INBOX.Trash
INBOX.MyFolder
etc.

When I specify the IMAP "root folder" in the account's settings
dialog, TheBat shows the folders in the list on the first level:

Sent
Trash
MyFolder
etc.

but it also still shows the old Inbox-structure. Every folder is shown
twice, making the complete folder list present as follows:

INBOX.Sent
INBOX.Trash
INBOX.MyFolder
Sent
Trash
MyFolder

Is this intentional?

Where would you archive them to? If you are reaching your Gmail size
limit, you'll need another account to move them to. This could be
done with filters.

If you're not near the limit, you could create another folder called
Archive and move the old emails there again using filters or even
manually.

TB! does use offline storage for POP3 accounts so you might be able to
do something creative there.

I am not sure whether you can sync with existing TB sub-folders - you
would need to create these in the IMAP account, and then copy across
existing messages. You could write a sorting office rule to copy
messages in other sub-folders into your IMAP account in TB
automatically, I guess, from where they would be synchronised. Any
filtering done in the IMAP account in TB should be reflected back in
the IMAP account, as long as you are filtering to folders in that
account.

I generally do server-side filtering these days, as it means that the
filtering works from any device, not just TB. That said, I am lucky
that my mail provider (FastMail) provides a comprehensive filtering
language that enables this.

Not good - but I am sorry I don't see any problems over here with all
my IMAP accounts and TheBat! with recent 32bit version

Are you shure this isn't a connection problem (Internet) or a problem
with the server of your provider?

Perhaps you give more information: Which version of TheBat!, 64 or 32
bit version and on which platform (Windows - which one).

587 usually works as well.

Just a bit strange that they block port 25 when you are using the SMTP
server from your own hosting/domain.
The ones I have come across (prepaid SIM card in a 3G wifi router or
USB 3G modem) don't seem to have their own SMTP servers
anyway.

It gets particularly irritating when you use the SMTP£ server from
your own domain, but your actual Internet connection is not your fixed
line DSL at home. In those cases (e.g. hotel wifi, SIM card in a 3G/4G
router), if you can find what the SMTP server
is, then port 25 works, but some don't seem to have one. A VPN fixes
the problem. Otherwise, you have to ask your hosting provider for
alternatives to port 25.

That is a real pain and rather defeats the point of an email
address. Sometimes you have to do that if your active
Internet connection has a different IP address. Not difficult if you
travel and don't always use the same or even any VPN.

I am surprised port 25 for SMTP works. That is blocked by many ISPs.

My current gmail settings are:-

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Connection: Secure to Regular Port (STARTTLS)
Port: 25
Authentication: Tick in Box for "Perform SMTP Authorisation (RFC2554)"
"same user/password as for mail retrieval" selected.

Mail Server: pop.gmail.com
User: Recent:myUsername
Password: xxx
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port: 995
Authentication: Regular

For mail retrieval to work, I also have to log onto gmail website
from time to time and either change my password or turn back on an
arcanely-named setting called "Allow less secure apps". (And if you
are now wanting to retrieve messages via IMAP instead of POP3, check
you have IMAP enabled in the mail settings on the gmail website. You
can have both enabled.)

Just a thought - do you need to set up an app specific password for
TB on Gmail? I think that I had to do that at some point over the last
year or two in order to continue to use Gmail with TB.

I am using the same connection settings as the others, and these
worked before I upgrade to 7.x, so I don't think it is the TB version.

You probably need to use TLS or STARTTLS, but that is a connection

Can I set up an IMAP account for a gmail address?

2017-03-05 Thread Melissa Reese
Hi,

I've always used pop3 for my accounts, but I have one new account that
would be more convenient if I could set it up via the IMAP protocol.

I tried to set up the account as IMAP, but the incoming authorization
(according to gmail) seems to want "SSL", which is not listed in the
available authorization options for incoming mail. Do I need a v7.x
Bat to get that option? Or will this v6.x version work as well?
Because...

I'm still using a v6.x Bat on this computer. My main computer, which
has v7.x installed, isn't working properly at the moment, so I've been
using this other computer for a few months. As far as I know, I
purchased two different licenses for the two computers, and I don't
think I can "upgrade" this Bat without purchasing a new license.

I'm wondering - since the Bat with the newer license is on a
misbehaving computer at the moment, could I somehow use that license
to upgrade this instance of Bat?

In any event, I'd like to know if there's a way to set up this new
gmail account as IMAP on this machine with Bat v6.x.

Thanks!
