Yes, Paprika for the iPHone and/or iPad is in my opinion the absolute best of
the best. Why? Well for one thing it is very accessible and has lots of great
features. And there is no question of the developer's willingness and ability
to address accessibility. I'm sure there are other apps and everyone will
have their own opinion, but I can recommend Paprika by Hindsight Labs LLC

Subject: Using iTunes with Window-Eyes latest version

Hello List,

I am using the latest version of Window-Eyes with iTunes. I believe it was
Reggie that was having problems with it and Sandy. I am running Win 7-64
bits, Dell Inspiron 4110 laptop. I have opened iTunes and once it settled, I
was able to navigate perfectly through it. I will use the F6 key to jump
between the source list, the list of items, and the search fields. Once I
have selected a source in iTunes, I can use the tab and shift-tab to
navigate. I did not have the iPhone4 plugged to the computer, so I didn't
check out the sections in my phone. However, I did go to the iStore, tabbed
over to my account, entered on it, and was placed in an edit field for my
password. All I did was to enter it and then press enter. It opened up my
account dialog box and I was able to navigate and view all of my
information. I am not sure why you are having this issue. As stated before
with JAWS, The most stable version is 13. I am able to navigate iTunes with
JAWS just as stated above with Window-Eyes. HTH.

Best,
Eileen

longer fraises with the press of like 3 keystrokes. You can do that
with auto correction. About the only thing unique to this app is the
fact that the sighted person must tap on ok to acknowledge the fact
that they understand what is being asked of them. I guess what bothers
me as well is the fact that Humanware is really pushing their products
in such a way as to not acknowledge other companies. The app
description talks about how you can connect an iDevice to either the
Brailliant or the Apex, instead of saying that it can be connected to
 any iDevice with any display.
But there's a reason. Recently, the FCC has alocated a total of 10
million dollars to go toward funding telecomunications equipment for
low income individuals who are deaf-blind. Each state was given a
certain amount of dollars. And since the deaf-blind communicator which
only worked with the mPower was not being even acknowledged any more,
this is their answer. Just like FS and all the other companies, they
think they can make some quick $$ by marketing this to the government.

Re: Tune In Radio Pro:

2012-09-10 Thread Wayne Merritt
If you try to bring up one station and another comes up in it's place,
perhaps the station you were trying to listen to is no longer
available through the app. From time to time, networks are added and
taken away with little warning. Might I suggest ooTunes as a good
backup. While it is more cluttered than TuneIn Radio, it does get many
of the stations that TuneIn does not get. I love TuneIn though and
even have it on my dock.

wanting to be congruent in Email on Iphone and Pc

HI guys: This morning I thought I could advance some and from my Iphone I
deleted a bunch of emails or read others, however here on Pc using Outlook07
not only the rest of the emails downloaded, but also the ones I thought I'd

so that the emails I check on Iphone and delete from there, when I turn on
pc and Open Outlook07 I'll see the same state of emails, thus being of some
use the nearly half hour I spent on Iphone working through the emails? Thanks

What kind of mail server are you on, pop, imap or exchange? If you are using a
pop server, the items you erase on your phone may not automatically be removed
from the server. You will need to make a change in your mail settings for that
account on your phone to have messages deleted from the server when they are
deleted from your inbox. Hope this helps.

Cooking App for the iPHone

2012-09-10 Thread Eileen Misrahi
Hello Folks,

I have the Epicurious app on my phone. What I like about it is when it is
first opened, the first page will give you different selections on the type
of meals if you are interested in one of the categories. There are also four
different buttons at the bottom to go to the home menu, search, favorites,
shopping list, and about. At the upper right hand corner after making a
category selection, there is a toggle list button. This needs to be tapped
on to open the list of recipes. Once you have selected a recipe by tapping
on it, there is an Add button that will give you options to add it to your
favorite list, email the recipes, tweet it, send to Facebook, or add to the
shopping list. There are different ways to search when you tap on the search
button. There are different types of food items such as avocado, bacon, etc.
to link on for recipes. There is a text field to type in a type of recipe
you are looking for or a food item to search the app. Besides different food
items to search for, there are categories for dietary considerations, dish
type, main/course, seasonal, and etc. For 1.99, you can get the recipe box
and sync the recipes there. I have not considered spending the money because
I place it in my favorites or email myself the recipes. This is a good
little app. I believe it is free minus the recipe box sync for $1.99. The
developer and the full app name is below. Enjoy.

2012-09-10 Thread Damashe Thomas
I have had a few books with links that didn't work. What seems to have
happened is that the link isn't on a line by itself, usually I have a comma
or some other punctuation. It's like if someone emails you a link, as onlg
as that links text is all on one line you can usually click it. But if I
wrote the url like this,

www.google.coj,
and you receive it with the comma after the m in .com, you can not activate
that link.
Try moving your finger down the screen til you get to the link then double
tap it. If this method doesn't work, then I am afraid you have other
punctuation or something on the line with the link.

Sorry for the rambling message, hope it helped some.

Subject: Difficulty with Activating Links in an iBooks Book

Greetings to the list.

I am using iBooks 1.1.1 on my iPhone 3GS to read a book in the Rough
Guide travel series. This book contains links to sections of chapters
which it lists at the start of each chapter. Try as I might, I cannot
activate those links and jump to a desired page number. I have
stopped continuous reading, changed the rotor to word mode, and
double-tapped on words in the title of the link and on the word link
itself, all to no avail. Of course, I can activate the search
button and do a search for the desired section's title, but I'd rather
just click on the link for that title. Any suggestions are welcome
and most appreciated.

App For Listening to NFL Games

2012-09-10 Thread Jeff Molzow
Hi Don:

I use All Football Radio. It picks up both NFL, and most college games. It
has both a schedule, and a current scores feature, so you can see what is
happening in other games at a glance. You can favorite your local teams, so
its easy to find out who is broadcasting them, and how they are doing. It
is very VoiceOver friendly , and works both on my IPad, and IPhone.

Hope that helps

Re: wanting to be congruent in Email on Iphone and Pc

2012-09-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't have any POP accounts myself anymore, but when I was using POP
on my PC, you had like three options.
* Leave the messages on the server, which is not what you want here, but
is probably what you're doing.
* Download the messages to my PC and delete them from the server. This
isn't what you want to do on your phone, but it may be what you want to
do on your PC. That depends how long your mail provider will keep your
messages around and where you want your messages stored long term.
* Delete your messages from the server when you delete them from the
phone or move them into another folder, which is probably what you want
to do, although you may not want to move them into another folder if
you're storing them long term on your PC.

Like I said, I don't have a POP account anymore, so I can't double check
this on my iPhone, but you should see something like the above in your
account settings on your iPhone.

Hello all,
At our meeting on Saturday, we had a lively discussion about the accessibility
of the MBTA and the need for improvements. I will be drafting a letter
highlighting our concerns and offering to be a resource to assist in improving
accessibility of the MBTA.
If you have concerns that you would like to have included, please send me an
email with the words MBTA accessibility in the subject line and I will try to
incorporate all suggestions and concerns into the letter. Please send comments
no later than Friday, September 14. Please also be constructive and make sure
your information is current.
Thanks.

Enjoy.

It does have a few advantages, but not worth $99. I beta tested this
over the summer. But you're right that most of the features already
exist in apps like Notes. For example, you can set up the app to send
longer fraises with the press of like 3 keystrokes.

Hi Maria,

Did you get a receipt from the iTunes store confirming that you purchased the
app? If not, open iTunes on your computer, choose the Store menu, and choose
View my Account. Enter your password when asked, and press Enter. One of the
headings on the next screen is Purchase History. Below that is a See All link.
Start moving through your history, which is listed with most recent first,
until you get far enough back to determine whether you bought the app for your
friend or not. If you didn't, you can try again. If you did purchase it, I'm
quite sure there's a button to resend the email notifying your friend.

I hope that helps.

Best,

Re: ibooks and pdf documents

2012-09-10 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

You need to set your rotor to lines or words and use up and down flicks if you
want to read by line or word. Also, a two-finger single tap will stop and start
speech where you stopped it if you do not give any other commands. Finally,
touching the screen will have VO read the line at your finger. if you then
slide your finger slowly down the display, you can make VO read line by line
following your touch.

your computer and then sync it to your device. You can also go to the pdf
link if it's on the web and choose open in Ibooks.

 Hope this helps,
 Teresa

THose with WIFI connections that are dropped

2012-09-10 Thread Scott Howell
All,

FOr those of you that have lost your WIFI connection seemingly randomly, I have
a question and this may have already been asked/answered. If you are loosing
your WIFI connection randomly even while your phone is unlocked and in use, do
you have bluetooth turned on? If so, have you tried turning it off for a while
as a test? If so, do you know if the WIFI connection remained solid?
I would like to know.

Re: Difficulty with Activating Links in an iBooks Book

2012-09-10 Thread Scott Howell
Although this is not exactly related to this specific issue, I have found that
trying to activate links in books using iBooks, while using a Braille display
results in VoiceOver crashes and the link is never activated.
I would be curious if anyone has had any success with speech and/or Braille
when activating links. I think this is something that needs to be brought to
APple's attention and I would encourage you to do so by e-mailing
accessibil...@apple.com.

that links text is all on one line you can usually click it. But if I wrote
 the url like this,
 www.google.coj,
and you receive it with the comma after the m in .com, you can not activate
 that link.
Try moving your finger down the screen til you get to the link then double
tap it. If this method doesn't work, then I am afraid you have other

Start moving through your history, which is listed with most recent first,

I hope that helps.

Re: problems with speach.

2012-09-10 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

This is happening when you are on a voice call. The iPhone has a sensor near
the ear speaker that detects when an object is near and deactivates the
touch-screen so a person's face will not trigger things whilst on a call. When
VO is running, this same sensor also switches the phone to speaker phone when
the touch-screen is activated so you can more easily hear VoiceOver. Use some
experimentation with how you position your iPhone during a call to keep the
sensor engaged whilst the phone is at your ear. I found that I need to rotate
my phone a little more toward the horizontal than what I did originally. Now, I
never have the phone switch to speakerphone except when I want it to happen.

Re: ATT Unlock

2012-09-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I think you're confusing unlocking and jail breaking. Unlocking just
means you can use your phone on different networks, e.g. you could move
your phone between AT
T and T-Mobile here in the US. It shouldn't impact your Apple Care plan.
It does not give you access to apps that aren't available in the App Store.

Jail breaking does give you access to apps that aren't in the App Store.
It also voids your warranty.

Re: Uploading photos to Facebook using the iPhone

2012-09-10 Thread Mike
For those of you who have jailbroken your device their is a tweak called
Facebook this that will allow you to upload your photos strait from your camera
roll without opening Facebook at all.

Perhaps the app you are using has a camera button too?

Re: ATT Unlock

2012-09-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not sure I understand the question. With a locked phone, you can
only text, call and use cellular data through the carrier the phone is
locked to. This wouldn't apply to wifi data though. I'm not too familiar
with T-Mobile, but I assume they also sell locked phones at a discounted
price when you subscribe to one of their plans. I didn't think T-Mobile
offered the iPhone yet though.

Is it true unlocking results in only phone and texting access, but not data?
Or is that restriction only on A TT, and not T-mobile?

 Thanks.

Is the main reason people unlock their phones is for access to apps not
 available in the App Store?

 Thank you,

alternative to voiceman?

2012-09-10 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,

I know about the voiceman app to track calls but it got bad reviews in the
store. Anyone knows ov an alternative or has good experiences with it or knows
of alternatives?

Inn fact, is there a way to look for similar apps to one particular one kind of
like genius but for apps one has not already bought?

Thanks for your input!
