Hi Angus. Have you tried touch typing? It's certainly better than double tapping every letter you want to type. Simply go into an edit field and adjust the roter to typing mode. Hi, that's an interesting thing to hear. What i'm curious to know, however, is how people are doing with displays on for example Microwave ovens, washing machines, digital recorders and other things that have displays. I have had mixed results. Some give me enough info that i can act upon them and make settings based on the info on the display, and others won't work at all. Hi, Firstly I want to say that this is the best app for reading things on the fly, due to the video mode. This saves the hassle of having to take numerous photos. I agree that my experience has varied. If I take my digital radio for example, I can read the station names as I scroll through them, but I cannot get enough information when scrolling through the menus to figure out which menu I have opened. I suspect that text size and contrast are the issue here. Hopefully as they fine tune the OCR algorithums and as iPhone cameras get better, things will improve. Apps like these could bring so much independence to people like us. Well they already are, but it can only get better. Huge praise and thanks to the developer of this app. I gave it a 5star rating on the day I grabbed it. Hello, I have been playing around with database options for the IPhone. So far I haven't found anything that lets me view the data very well. I was wondering if anyone had found a good application for viewing the data on their IPhone. What I would like to be able to do is: 1. Load data from a csv file or from a sqllite database into the application. ** I would prefer to be able to do this through Drop Box. 2. View the data in a table format on the IPhone. ** and be able to navigate the table through VoiceOver. I am currently using an application called SQLed, which allows me to import the data from Drop Box, and set up my tables as I want them, but it doesn't seem to give much in the ability to view the data. So far I have only been able to access the first two columns, but nothing more. I have been able to export the database to my MAC and then view the entire table structure, and all of its data, in a MAC application. This works when I am home, but not so much when I am out and about, and wanting to do some work on the bus or something. I have looked briefly into Bento, but it was very unweildy. It took several seconds for any swipes, when on the MAC, to be recognized, so navigation, though accessible, was completely useless. The IPhone application seemed better, but I could not find a good way to access specific records, since they were only designated by dates, instead of IDs or Names. It fits like the earpiece of a pair of glasses. There is a small rectangular button above the earpiece that faces forward. This button appears to control volume. It cycles through quiet, middle, loud, middle, quiet, and so on. The back of the tube is a round button. This is the answer, disconnect button. When I hold the button in for more than a few seconds, my iPhone redials the last number. Pressing and releasing the button activates Siri. Pressing and releasing again seems to deactivate Siri. The charger is a little box that the earpiece fits into. It contains a battery so the earpiece can be recharged a couple times even when away from power. The box can easily fit in a pocket, bag, or purse. The box connects to power using a micro-usb connector. The unit comes with a short usb to micro-usb cable, and a wall plug with two USB ports on it. This earpiece shows battery status on the iPhone. When I first activated the earpiece (by removing it from the charger box), it started saying Ready to pair. It also gave the pairing code if necessary. This announcement repeated until I paired it with my iPhone. After pairing, which was automatic once I selected the Motorola Elite Sliver, the unit told me it had five hours of talk time available. The Motorola Elite Sliver uses Motorola's Crystal Talk signal processing technology to block extra noise. Before I accidentally stepped on and broke my old Motorola H17TXT earpiece, I found the crystal talk technology worked quite well even when I was in noisy and windy environments. When I let the earpiece speaker go on standby, it takes between two and three seconds to begin speaking again. This is normal. However, it starts speaking the first phrase which woke it up. I haven't tested it yet with GPS announcements, but this behaviour is new, so I suspect I will have positive results with GPS announcements when I test it later. Also, the audio announcement of key presses appears to be shorter than with my previous earpieces. Of course, this unit has A2DP profile, so it works with VoiceOver. After about an hour's use of the device, I feel comfortable in recommending it. Are you using the new version of TuneIn Radio? I have had an issue come up multiple times when trying to play a station that I had stopped, but not being able to. I have had to close the app and reload it in order to get everything working again. This is different from before the update since before, I had no trouble playing stations that I brought up from my favorites or after having already stopped the station. I think this might be an issue with the update but can't be sure. I'm using TuneIn Radio version 3.51 on an iPhone 5. Thoughts? Have you tried split tap? Holding your finger on the letter/object you want to double tap, touch the screen with a second finger. Hello, You can select not to cross fade your songs if you wish. As far as the syncing question, I don't think so and here's the reason. You can set Muxica to analyze your songs, always, or in terms of minutes. For example, if the longest song you have is 5.35 long you would set to 6 minutes. If you decrease the slider to the lowest point, or to the left, you will be on always analyze your music. HTH. That is a great feature to tap the phone number and it dials. Is there a way to save that number as a contact? HI, I downloaded Cam find this morning. It works pretty well but I have found the voice search less than desirable because it never understands what I want to search for. Have any of you tried the voice search feature and had good luck with it? I do like all the information that Cam find gives for a given product. I took a picture of my black and white cat Kobe and it went from giving me pictures of other black and white cats to black and white cat jewelry to buy to a wiki article about black and white cat breads and then great names for black and white cats etc. It's really cool. I've been reading it to find out when the 5-S is coming out. My 2 year agreement is up next month with ATT. I've been holding off on upgrading my iPhone 4 until the 5-S comes out. I tried to use talking goggles to read the display on my microwave but it did not work at all. I have used it for other things like reading small bits of text on the front of envelopes and the computer screen when it decided to stop talking. The iPhone apps you install on your iPad usually have a button in the bottom right-hand side which is labelled something like switch to full screen mode. This enlarges the app to fit onto the iPad's size, instead of being a small rectangle in the middle of the iPad screen. By the way, the switch to full screen mode button is a toggle, so you can switch back to the smaller mode if desired. Phone Number Detected question
I have heard my iPhone say phone number detected in a document and have wondered about that. Come next year, all phone numbers will have to include the area code to dial. I wonder and I haven't tried it but hearing that statement phone number detected if the area code is included if you double tapped when that message comes up if it would auto dial or why would it be in there unless it's to add to your address book but that doesn't seen right either if it were in a message or document. Thinking outside the box here. Just one question: Would this method also enable me to assign a key combination to the Find command, emulating the Bluetooth keyboard functionality, or does it only work with commands that can be executed on the touchscreen? If you mean searching for a new book to buy, you can't. Apple doesn't allow access to the Audible store from within the app. I use Safari and add the icon to the audible.com search page to the home screen so I can just go right there. Anyway, when you got a teeny phone app open in the middle of a pad screen, there's a button down far right bottom, say zoom I think it is, might be full screen, so use that to fill the space and make it big. Now it's big enough you can hardly miss, but for sure so big you can hardly reach either. I got good runs out of it, and bad ones, so not convinced, but they work in this way if you can see enough to benefit from the extra size. Would suit partially sighted who do benefit from size, but still have the full view, rather than the limited one of the magnifying glass you have to move about to see what you're doing. A co-worker made an interesting discovery with SayText. If you use the StandScan Pro and manually scan with SayText, it gives extremely good results and can be Emailed or by double tapping in the text area to make it editable, you can use the rotor to go to Edit and select all, and then copy it to the clipboard to use wherever you like. Do you have to enable it in every different apps then? Is this something you need to do in the settings such as in the music bit of the settings? I have the same problem as Eddie, but I have actions working in messages and mail. Is it because I have not set it up in music? I thought it was something to do with the fact that my music came from iCloud. You, as a user, shouldn't have to do anything to enable it. I just meant it had to be enabled by the app developer. I haven't used it to delete music myself. Maybe Jenn or someone else can help. StandScan Pro is broken.
Hi all. Ok I should have bought an extra standscan pro at once when I got mine. Today I needed to scan some barcodes, but it did not work. I am sure that the connection to the lights is broken. Just to tell you all, that StandScan Pro is a great box, but I think it can easily broke. I think I will order a new StandScan pro, but only because it is so great for me as a blind person, and it helps me a lot especially with barcodes, but I will also say, that StandScan pro must last longer than 10 days. I'm trying to donwload the YouVersion ap, however when I type in YouVersion it comes up with some tv bible ap, I scroll and it comes up with everything accept the one I want. Adding music to the iPhone
I know this seems very simple, and I've had an iPhone for almost a year now. I should have learned how to do it long before now. But how do you add music to the iPhone? Not music you want to buy from iTunes, but music that is already in your collection on your computer. Someone has added some on my phone, and it is difficult to navigate through it. Hey yall. I went to the store today with a friend and while she was off looking for something else, I got out my phone and opened up the Tap Tap See app to see what happened with it. I was in the pet aisle because I had just got a bag of cat litter. so, I opened up the app and it said when I took the first picture, that it was showing a bag of Meow Mix cat food. Cool I thought, so I tried it again, and none of the other pictures I took worked. Either they timed out or they were blurry. Do I need to delete each picture I take before I take a new one, I just couldn't figure out why I got those responses after that first picture. I didn't think I was holding the phone any differently. 3 problems I face concerning the accessibility of WhatsApp with VoiceOver
hello, I use WhatsApp under IPhone 5 with IOS 6.13. I would like to ask you if there a solution to any of the 3 problems I face concerning the accessibility of WhatsApp with VoiceOver. 1, when I would like to brodcast a message and I start selecting the contacts I need my message to be sent to, I find that VoiceOver doesn't say whether this contact is selected or not. further more, when I select a number of contacts lets say 10 as an example and after I selected the 10th contact I forgot whom I selected as the first contact; so I move to the different contacts I need my message to be sent to check which of them I have already selected and which is not. in this particular stage lies the problem as VoiceOver doesn't announce whether a contact is selected or not. 2, when any one send two successive text messages, VoiceOver deals with them as if they are only one; thus, first, if I need VoiceOver to read the second text message, I have to listen to the first text message Followed by the second text message. second, I can't copy The first text message without copping the second text message or the second text message without copping The first text message. third, if the first text message includes a link and the second text message includes another link, I can't find any way to open the link in the second message. this is only applies if the links are from the App Store. but if the links are not from the App Store, I can't figure any way to open the link in either the first text message or the second text message. 3, when I move between the different conversations without opening them, VoiceOver doesn't announce whether this conversation has unread messages or not. the only way to know that is to open the conversation. note, in the mail app that comes with IOS, VoiceOver says unread before unread e-mails. any help from you will be highly appreciated. Hello, I posted instructions a few weeks ago on this same task. Here it is again. The nice thing about Navigon is that you can install the maps (states) that you need only. That said, this is what you should do. 1. Launch Navigon. 2. Double tap on Address. The Next screen will open. 3. From the left-hand corner, flick to the right until you hear list country. Double-tap on this. This will open another screen that will list all the states that you have installed. 4. Double-tap on the state that you need to navigate in and close it out or double-tap the back button. 5. This fix the problem and find the address you need. Once all the fields are filled in, double-tap the start navigation (right-hand corner) twice. There is another app called Navigon Now that allows one to type or paste in an address and launch Navigon from it. It saves on from dealing with all the edit fields. HTH. Hello, Chasity, Firstly, I know how confusing this can be. My first experiences with iTunes were rather frustrating at best. I can write up instructions for you--but if you need further help, feel free to write me off-list and we can exchange Skype contact info. Secondly, what iTunes version are you running? This will make a bit of difference in the steps you will need to take in order to add music to your iPhone. I will assume that you already have music added to iTunes, as you mentioned that someone has already added music to your iPhone. If running iTunes 10 or lower: 1. Locate the music entry in the treeview which is labeled Sources tree view. It will be the first item. 2. Tab until you reach items of your music library. This may consist of an area of the window which looks like a table. 3. You'll want to press alt-V here to reach the view menu. Press down arrow until you reach the column browser option. It may not be visible as of yet. If not, the option will probably be called Show column browser. Press enter on this. 4. Enter the View menu again, and press right-arrow when you reach the menu item called Column browser sub menu. This menu lets you make iTunes treat each option on which you press enter as it's own list. So, if you press enter on Artists, iTunes will display all your artists in one list. Press enter on Albums, and you'll not only have a list of artists, but also a list of albums. The cool thing here is that once you highlight an entry in the list of artists, the Albums list will change to only show albums by that particular artist. There are other options in this Column browser menu which you can check or uncheck as you wish. I have Artists and Albums checked. 5. There are a couple of ways to sync your library to your iPhone. The way I prefer, and what a lot of people choose to do, is to use the Sync selected playlists, albums, artists, and genres option. This lets you check checkboxes next to items and have them sync. In particular, I'm a huge fan of playlists, because they let you put a more personal touch on whatever you're syncing. You'll find this option in the Summary tab (most screen readers call these buttons), of your device. 6. To get to your device, make sure that it's plugged into your computer. Then, navigate to the Sources treeview. Press down-arrow until you reach your device. Press tab until you reach the Summary radio button, and press space to check it. Note: You must tab through these radio buttons--you can't arrow through them. 7. Somewhere on this screen is the option to Sync selected playlists, albums, artists, and genres. It's a radio button, so press space to check it. You should proceed to the Okay or Apply changes button and press it. Now, for making a playlist. 1. You first need to create the playlist. Press Ctrl-N and type the name for your playlist. 2. iTunes will drop you into the list for the tracks list of the playlist, which is empty. Navigate back to the Sources treeview, and press the home key to reach the top item, which is Music. 3. Press tab until you reach the lists of artists. Change the selection until you find the one you want. Move to the list of albums with the tab key, then select the one you want. Next, move to the list of songs, and select the one you want. You can also select more than one track by holding down the shift key and pressing the down arrow. 4. Hit the applications key on your keyboard, or, alternatively, press Shift-F10. This will bring up a menu. Press up-arrow until you reach the Add to playlist sub menu. Hit right-arrow to open it, then press up or down-arrow to reach the desired playlist. Once reached, press enter on it. Your tracks will be added, and you will be back in the list of tracks of your music library. Continue adding songs until you are satisfied. 5. Once you are through, navigate to your iPhone's entry in the Sources treeview. You'll notice that it can be opened, but do not do so. Once you reach the entry, just press tab until you reach the Music radio button, and check it by pressing space. 6. Now, press tab until you reach something that says something about playlists. I can't remember exactly what it's called. When you reach it, press the down-arrow until you reach the playlist you've just created, and press space to check it's checkbox. 7. Press tab until you reach the Apply changes button, and press it. It may take a while to sync everything to your iPhone, but be patient. You can check on the progress of things by pressing shift-tab for a bit until you reach something titled LCD section. There will be a few of these so-called LCD sections. One of them will tell you the progress of the sync. If running iTunes 11 or higher: Things are pretty much the same, except that you need to enable what Apple is now calling the Sidebar. Do so by pressing Ctrl-S when you first open iTunes. Also, after enabling the Column browser, you'll need to press space on the Songs radio button when in the main Music section

hello, This is how I save an address in Navigon: 1. Enter all require fields with the all the information. 2. On the on screen keyboard, under the delete key, there is a done button. Double-tap on it. 3. In the lower right hand corner, there is a more button. Double-tap on that. 4. Flick once until you hear save to favorite. Double-tap on that. The next time you open up Navigon and open up the address, you will need to flick to the right until you hear favorites. Double-tap on that and then you will need to search for the address you want to go to. The process is the same to start the navigation by double-tapping on start navigation twicd in the upper right-hand corner. HTH. Hello, I am sorry that this happened to you. A couple of weeks ago, I notice that the lights were flickering. I checked the connection and made sure to treat the StandScan with care. I keep it assembled all the time because of the fragil materials used and the fact that one of the cover on one of the magnets has come off. I just replaced it with another label to cover it. I agree with you that if this StandScan pro breaks, I will definitely purchase another one. It's a terrific when I am working at a client's home and I need to scan something. Actually, my stand scan showed up with a cut wire. This meant that I could not connect it and get any output from the lights. I did email Harry and he is sending me a replacement without the accessories of course. I am waiting out arrival, so I would encourage you to do the same thing. The Motorola Elite Sliver is a somewhat thick round tube which circles around the top of the ear. The speaker rotates to stick into either ear. Overall it is very comfortable to wear and doesn't block sound appreciably. The speaker is round and sits just outside the ear canal opening. It feels quite stable and secure hooked over my ear. It fits like the earpiece of a pair of glasses. There is a small rectangular button above the earpiece that faces forward. This button appears to control volume. It cycles through quiet, middle, loud, middle, quiet, and so on. The back of the tube is a round button. This is the answer, disconnect button. When I hold the button in for more than a few seconds, my iPhone redials the last number. Pressing and releasing the button activates Siri. Pressing and releasing again seems to deactivate Siri. The charger is a little box that the earpiece fits into. It contains a battery so the earpiece can be recharged a couple times even when away from power. The box can easily fit in a pocket, bag, or purse. The box connects to power using a micro-usb connector. The unit comes with a short usb to micro-usb cable, and a wall plug with two USB ports on it. This earpiece shows battery status on the iPhone. When I first activated the earpiece (by removing it from the charger box), it started saying Ready to pair. It also gave the pairing code if necessary. This announcement repeated until I paired it with my iPhone. After pairing, which was automatic once I selected the Motorola Elite Sliver, the unit told me it had five hours of talk time available. The Motorola Elite Sliver uses Motorola's Crystal Talk signal processing technology to block extra noise. Before I accidentally stepped on and broke my old Motorola H17TXT earpiece, I found the crystal talk technology worked quite well even when I was in noisy and windy environments. When I let the earpiece speaker go on standby, it takes between two and three seconds to begin speaking again. This is normal. However, it starts speaking the first phrase which woke it up. I haven't tested it yet with GPS announcements, but this behaviour is new, so I suspect I will have positive results with GPS announcements when I test it later. Also, the audio announcement of key presses appears to be shorter than with my previous earpieces. Of course, this unit has A2DP profile, so it works with VoiceOver. After about an hour's use of the device, I feel comfortable in recommending it. Hi. Yes I have contacted Harry. The problem is that I need sighted assistance to figure out what exact is wrong, is it the adapter or the lights, and nobody has time for that at the moment. My 12V battery holder is very late in the post. The sad thing is that I am sure, that I will need a new standscan, and it can take up to a month to get it to Denmark. Has anyone used the 9V battery holder, will the lights be a little hot when using that, maybe I can use that for figuring out what's wrong. Best regards Annie. This is jus a thought. Do you have an app Light Detector. If you are totally blind; this app could give you feedback if any light is being produced. I have this on my iPhone4. I also have a light detector on my qstantd a lone color identifier that gives me audio feedback. Give it a try. It may be able to begin trouble shooting the problem. HTH. keybord doesn't always come up
I saw on here that a user was having the same issue as I am. Sometimes when I'm filling out a form, rather it would be a signup form, etc. sometimes when I doubletap the keybord does not come up and I have to exit the ap and go back in, anyone know why this happens? ITriage ap
Does anyone use the medical ap ITriage? Today, Harry told me that newer versions of SS Pro have thicker cardboard and better magnetic connections. I don't knowhow long the newer versions have been shipping, but he said that all new orders will include the sturdier versions. I have tried the following with StandScan: Prizmo, SayTex, Text Detector Perfect OCO, and Text Grabber. The OCR app that I got the most inconsistencies was Text Detector. I seem to travitate to either Text Grabber or Prizmo. I have had good clean results with Perfect OCR. I need to test out SayText again to see how it will respond with the StandScan. HTH.
