sighting

2012-02-17 Thread Ctmidway57
Was watching an oldreally old...episode of The Rifleman last night and
it was called the Hangman. And who else was it than Denver Pyle, shoring up
his gallows to hang another guilty party. The townsfolk were all up in
arms and ready to hang the guilty man without even a trial until Lucas
started asking questions and found out the Hangman was the guilty man and by
hanging someone else, his secret was safe! However, he tried to sneak a gun
out of his pocket and shoot Lucas but that rifle...Not even Barney could
have outgunned him!!
So endeth the saga of Denver Pyle as the Hangman!

Days

2012-02-12 Thread Ctmidway57
Just thinkjust over 7 months until Mayberry Days again!! The most fun
time you can have in your life, so make plans to attend NOW. If you need
hotel/motel reservations, do it NOWa month from now may be too late, but
you can still get rooms in Winston Salem or Hillsville Va, each about 30
minutes away.
Shows galore to choose from:
Michael Hoover has a FANTASTIC show!
Doug Dillard has a FanTAStic show!
Col. Tim's Talent Time is also a FANTAStic show!!
The official opening of Mayberry Days Friday AM in the amphitheater is as
good a show as you can see for free ANYwhere!!
The trivia contest is marvelous and will test your knowledge of the show
beyond your limits of reason! Every year the questions get tougher and
tougherso much so the past champions had big problems last year!
And Snappy Lunch and their po'k chop sammichfor northerners that
translates to a Pork Chop Sandwich.. is the best you can eat anywhere. You look

at it when it gets to your table and think...there is no way I can eat all
of that! and one bitejust ONE BITE later you say,.'One won't be
enough! but it usually is.
Saturday parade at 9AM...has grown from a few minutes to about 45 minutes
last year. If we have good weather forecast for this year's parade I
expect it will be at least an hour long!
Museum is open next to the playhouse with LOADS of 'stuff' from the show,
Matlock as well. Kudos to Emmett Forrest for such a wonderful job
maintaining the museum!!
Wally's Service Station next door to the courthouse and jail replica...
Andy's boyhood home.
A full weekend of fun and games, and ends perfectly with a church service
in the amphitheater led by Country Boy LeRoy and Janice McNees caps it
off!!'
So get with it, check _www.surryarts.org_ (http://www.surryarts.org) for
listings of places to stay and eat and come on down to Mayberry The last
full weekend in September!!
I may even take you picture!

To the Bluebird of course, and stop at Snappy Lunch for a snack! With all
the pretty scenery around Mayberry, save the money and just park on top of a

Greetings!

2011-12-24 Thread Ctmidway57
Christmas greetings to the entire Mayberry community!!
Sometime tomorrow, stop for just a few minutes and remember the Person
whose life we celebrate! Make it a Mayberry time, which is remembering the
Reason for the Season, a change of heart, sharing of bounty, and forgiveness.
Also mentioning, today I have another milestone. 3/4 of a century has
passed since my birth...
11:45 PM Dec. 24, 1936. 75 years!! Where did the time go? The night I was
born at home, the doctor took one look at meslapped my daddy, sent my
mama to the hospital and went outside and emptied both barrels of his 12
gauge at Santa Claus.
I don't remember growing older but somewhere along the way I did, and for
the past 50 years Mayberry has been a part of my life!

Mayberry Days!~

2011-09-26 Thread Ctmidway57
Thursday, Sept. 22:
Car had been mostly loaded the evening before, so finished loading what was
left and got under way about 0750. Traffic was heavy on I-540 so turned
off on US-70 to I-85 and headed on to Mayberry!
We made one rest stop outside Greensboro and made it the rest of the way
without stopping.
First stop was Snappy Lunch where we had our
hugemassive...deliciousmessypork chop sandwich!! That made the trip
 worth it!! While eating
we saw our first people, Jeff Howard Branch and Jim Head Goober Clark.
After eating we made our way up the street, stopping in stores as we went.
No crowds! How nice!! Then in to see Darrel, Debbie and Samantha at
Mayberry on Main. It is so nice to be treated so nice in a store and they are
to
be commended!! COMMEND!! There...done.
Also ran into Collin Watkins and his parents along the way!
We slowly made our way back down and stopped in the PO for my annual
postmarks, this time the mark features Snappy Lunch.
Next stop was to drop off the items for the silent auction on Saturday. But
one thing was missing and that was some homemade desserts at Barney's
Cafe. His mom makes all the desserts! Carol and I both had some cocoanut cake
ala mode and was it good!! After eating out dessert we walked back to Bear
Creek and got some of their home made fudge.
We decided to see if we could check in, but it was only 2 pm and check in
is 3 but we made it, got unloaded and all our stuff in the room. We
stretched out to rest and woke up a little over an hour later! Got a shower
and
later went to the hospitality room. Not hardly anyone came in this time and we
can't understand where everybody is??? We did meet up with Bobby, Janet
and Kyle Butler, and it is hard to believe Kyle is now I think 19 years old??
WOW! What a nice family!
Friday AM: POURING rain this AM!~ We walked over to Biscuitville, next
door, and had breakfast. We waited around the hotel a while until the rain
let up and rode downtown. Went to opening ceremonies at the Playhouse as the
amphitheater would have been a bad place at that time!! By time the
opening was over, the rain had stopped, so we walked back downtown until time
for
the trivia contest. What hard questions!! Even Pat and Dennis, past
champions who had gotten every question right, had loads of trouble with
these!
Pat came in second and Dennis came in third this time, the honors this time
went to a man from Indiana and I am sorry I forgot your name!!
When the contest was over all the members of WBMUTBB gathered at the
stage and after intros had our group photo taken. That was fun! After that was
over we walked back to the parking lot to leave and ran into a friend from
VirginiaLiterally!! He had backed out a little to allow his wife to get
in the car and when I backed out of my space didn't see him and we
connected! Not a lot of damage to either car so glad for that. Have turned it
in to
my insurance co. so hopefully it will be settled. We started talking and
became instant friends, and saw them again at the amphitheater and talked
again. That is the Mayberry Spirit!
Went back to the hotel, got baths and went back to the hospitality room
and sat with unhappy fans!! We have no celebrities to talk with except George
Spence, who came in about 9:15 and is always a good conversationalist! And
loads of fun!...but no one else! And no music this year!
Saturday: Up at 0600, got out of hotel about 7 and went to Biscuitville
drive thru and got our breakfast. We rode downtown and parked on the street
and ate our biscuits, then waited for the parade. It started to arrive about
9:10 and lasted just under an hour. A couple from Sylva NC stood with us
and upon talking to her my wife found out she is starting treatments tomorrow
for Breast cancer, so say a prayer for a friend from Sylva. the parade was,
as usual, great! Loads of great things to look at, all the stars and
tribute artists, and a couple of the wives had great roles as wellJan was
pickle queen dressed all in green, and Patty.I have yet to figure out
what that was!! It was hilarious whatever it might be! So much fun!
After the parade we walked up to the playhouse to check out the silent
auction. We walked over to the amphitheater for the pork contest awards then
back to the playhouse to get our pork barbecue sandwiches, taking them back
to the amphitheater for a place to sit while we ate. We saw the cloggers
and some country music, then walked back downtown and got the car and drove
it to the amphitheater for the Mayberry Idle contest. That was fun! David
Gomer Belk who has a fine Gomer voice, whistled the Fishin' Hole and hit
every note right on! There was a conglomeration off different acts, all
enjoyable. First time I had heard the Stars and Stripes Forever played on a
guitar! As soon as Collin did his rendition of I Wish Life Was Like Mayberry
we
left to get

2010-09-27 Thread Ctmidway57
The surprise guest was someone who started going to Mayberry Days at age 8
and is now 19, is confined to a wheelchair, basically, and has made a ton
of friends at the Days! For everyone who has met Kyle Butler we are so
proud to say he received the Key to Our Hearts award and Plaque last night!
They had been to the earlier show so they could attend Michael Hoover's show
which is at the same time as Col. Tim's late show, so they had to do some
wrangling to give them access to the stage door to get him to come. What a
surprised look on this young man's face!! His parents, Bobby and Janet and
sister Natalie were very proud of Kyle!
We had a great Col. Tim's as usual with some new faces and lots of old
ones, but a very entertaining show in which a good time was had by all.
After the show, George Spence came by the Hampton Inn for a while and gave
us some good laughs before heading back to his motel. We all headed to bed
just about 1:15 this AM!!
At 7:30 we got up and got everything ready to head to services at the
amphitheater but it was raining! By time for it to start the rain had stopped
so
we were in the seats ready for things to get under way, and then the rain
started again so we moved all chairs up on stage and had services under the
cover. LeRoy McNees Country Boy led the service and singing, with a
wonderful story by his wife Jan, a beautiful hymn by Michael Elvis Hoover,
scripture reading by David Browning, The Mayberry Deputy, There was a good
gospel group who led us in 3 songs but my apologies, I failed to get their
names!
After services we stacked the chairs and some went to Sagebrush, others to
Golden Corral and I found out why. The stars are given 2 meal tickets to
Sagebrush and by Sunday they want something different, so they head to the
Corral. This time we went with them for breakfast so guess next year we will
go with the Sagebrush group. A good time will be had no matter which way
you go.
After eating we said our goodbyes and left in the rain, which had let up
when we left, but we soon hit a downpour which slowed us to about 40 mph, and
that happened several times along the way home but we arrived safely
around 5 after stopping in Mebane NC for gas and to visit one if the wife's
relatives who turned 101 on Sept. 19!!
Thanks to Surry Arts Council, all the wonderful stars and lesser stars,
especially the tribute artists who worked themselves to a frazzle, parade
participants, shop keepers, Emmett Forrest, and all the rest who made this one
wonderful 50th anniversary celebration!!
Signing off for a while!!

2010-09-25 Thread ctmidway57

Hit the downtown about 7:45 and got a parking spot on Main st., ate our
breakfast and got ready for the parade. It started right on time and what a
parade it was! Longest so far at just over an hour! I think our first one back
in '98 was about 20 minutes. After the parade we roamed in a few stores, then
headed to the Playhouse, but sadly the silent auction was all over when we
arrived, so we went over to the amphitiheater where a Gospel singing group was
performing, then the cloggers took over for a rousing number before Art Fettig
took the stage to do his Almost Andy show. This man bears an amazing
resemblance to Matlock and is a great performerat age 81!
We are getting ready to head down to the playhouse for Col. Tim's Talent Time
where we have been promised a surprise guest this year and none of us have any
idea who it could be!
Our boss/overseer, Allan aka Floyd, has been busy but seems to be having a
blast getting and receiving lots of love!! What a great group of people here!
The police have an easy time during Mayberry days!
So, that's it for now, will try to give an update when we get back tonight if
time, and if not will try in the AM to let you know who our surprise guest was!

Surprise and no surprise!!
Dennis Beale won the trivia contest again...but only got what...17 correct?
they were tough!!! I mean Really tough!! Pat Bullins, champ for 6 consecutive
years got only 15 of the 22 right. It has been a miserably hot and humid day
today but we all had a great time. Ronnie Schell had a bit at the cinema after
one of the shows he was on, when Aunt Bea was chosen to do a commercial for
Foster's Furinture Polish, and he had a nice long and very interesting q a
session.
Tomorrow AM is the parade at 9 followed by the autograph sessions, and the sale
of tghe barbecue from the cookoff going on all night tonight.
Supposed to be cooler tomorrow and rain tomorrow night and into Sunday but none
of us will complainit has been a wonderful time so far! The 50th
Anniversary Tshirts are sold out!!! I didn't get one but they say I will be
able to order one on line but it won't be the same!! Such is life. Then
tomorrow night is Col. Tim's Talent time, the best show in town!
For those who missed this year, you have missed a great time but I hope my
little updates have kept you up to date as to what is going on.
Now, it is bath time before going to the hospitality room and visit with those
who have become dear friends over the past 13 years.

sightings

2010-08-10 Thread Ctmidway57
I know this has been mentioned b4 but let's give it another go for the
newcomers.
Bonnie and Clyde, the movie from 1967 or 68 starring Warren Beatty and Faye
Dunaway also had several TAGS characters in it.
Cousin Virgil found what he could dohe could work on cars and drive
getaway cars for B C.
Dub Taylor was Virgil's father
And the sheriff who was after them was 'Brisco Darling' Denver Pyle. He
did not wear bib overhauls in this one but had a deppity's uniform.
There could have been others but those are the 3 who come to mind. Great
movie but once again it showed crime does not pay. I once had the privilege
of viewing the car B C were killed in and it looked like a strainer it
had so many holes in it! Seems like it was about a '37 Ford if not mistaken.
Only been between 55 and 60 years ago I saw it so my memory isn't too
clear on details.

Tick a lock

2010-03-06 Thread Ctmidway57
According to the urban dictionary, the phrase comes from the old days when
a lock was a plate mounted below the doorknob. When you turned the key, it
gave a definite Click or Tick when the lock closed.
So, to tick a lock meant you had turned the key so the door (mouth) was
locked.
But, there were also skeleton keys which could open your lock, but the
way you got past that was to leave the key in the lock, partially turned, so
another key could not be inserted from the other side.
Ah, yes!! The good old days where things waxed romantic!! There is no
substance to all the locks being just alike and making no sounds!
To the pants leg always being caught on Andy's boot, I wore the boots as
well, called Wellingtons, very comfortable and easy on/easy off. I was
always being admonished to get your pantleg off your boot! That is the
natural
way for it to do when you stand or get out of a car. Leaving it alone made
it more down home feeling. Now if they'd gone to the diner for some
barbecue and hush puppies, that would have really set the scene of being in
North Carolina!

Andy again?

2010-02-19 Thread Ctmidway57
I have a great idea for Andy and a TV special:
Andy has played a sheriff and also a lawyer, as well as the bad guys.
So...now, lets have Andy play the part of a Judge, with some big name
players as the lawyers and criminals. That's redundant...big name players to
play the part of the crooks who get caught and are put on trial, with an all
star cast as the jury.
That sounds like a winner, with Andy's background as lawman and attorney!!
Whaddaya think?

Mayberry Days

2009-09-29 Thread Ctmidway57
I am going to try to read my scribbled notes and give an account of
Mayberry Days, so here goze:

9-24: I awoke at 2:15 AM and never got back to sleep! On top of that,
instead of taking one of my Lyrica capsules I took 2, and that causes
drowsiness but I had a full power Dr. Pepper and the caffeine kept me awake
for the
3 hour trip. I awoke Carol at 6 and finished packing the car, and after a
light breakfast got under way just after 7:30.
We made a stop at Mebane NC for gas which was 10c a gallon cheaper than
Raleigh, then make another stop at the Greensboro rest area before going on
into Mt. Airy at 10:25. Of course, the first stop was at Snappy Lunch for
our annual pork chop sandwich and merciful goodness, what a sandwich that
was! It was hanging out all around the bun but I soon took care of the
overhang and got down to serious business! As soon as we finished that, we
made
our way up to Mayberry on Main and what a nice roomy store they have now! My,
goodness!! And Darryl, Debbie and Samantha make you feel so at home with
their friendliness and smiles it is a real treat to go in their store!
Then of course we checked out the Consignment shop, Emporium at Oak, and
other stores as we made our way back to the car, stopping at the PO for my
postmarks. I got out my donations for the silent auction and dropped them
off at the Surry Arts office, then into the new Andy Griffith Museum which
had been open 2 days and what a thrill it was to see all the artifacts in
such a beautiful setting!
After viewing the museum, we made our way back to the Emporium for some ice
cream and walked thru the rest of the store.
We decided then to head to the hotel an check in but first, we had to stop
at the Goodwill store! Never pass up a good thrift shop! Then to the hotel!
How nice...we got upgraded to the new section with microwave and
refrigerator...a very comfortable room! After getting the luggage in and
unpacked it
was time for a short nap. After baths we went down to the hospitality room
for a while before turning in for the night.
9-26: Got up at 6, got ready to head out but stopped at Biscuitville for
some breakfast and headed downtown about 8:30. We checked out a few stores
before heading to the opening ceremonies at the amphitheater. No rain
falling yet but forecastagain! Seems like we did this last year! Opening
was
great as usual with David Browning serving as MC - Master of Confusion -
oh...sorry, that's Master of Ceremonies! What a great job you do, David and
it is a pleasure to know you!
Afterwards, we made the rounds of town again before going to the theater
for TAGS videos with the star of the show to answer questions. Spitting a
little rain but not too bad. This time at the theater we had LeRoy McNees,
George Spence, James Best and Jackie Joseph. As soon as that was over we were
SUPPOSED to go to the amphitheater for the trivia contest and internet
group photo, but my stomach overrode my brain and we went to eat, but I did
remember it at 5:30 when we were too far away to get back in time for the
photo. Gotta start making a note to me of what I am to do and when! So, I
went
back to Mayberry on Main and got me a t-shirt before heading back to hotel
and baths. A little after 9 LeRoy and his friends came in to play and sing
for us until his voice about gave out around 10:50 so we forgave him and
let him go!! He is great and is a great friend, a pleasure to know him and
his wife Janice.
9-26: Up at 6:15. Parking lot is wet but nothing falling as of now. We
left the hotel a little after 7:30 and picked up our biscuits. We rode down
to Main St. and got a parking space on the street where we sat and ate our
breakfast, then got into position to watch the parade. Just a few minutes
before the parade start the rains came, but not really heavy, just enough to
get you kinda soggy if you didn't have a raincoat. But folks, if you are in
front of the line watching the parade, keep your 'brellas down as low as
you can so the folks in back don't get blocked! It was a great parade with a
couple of new little Opies in it, and guess we will have to get a new one
as Jamie is soon going off to college! Can you believe that?? The parade
moved very slow this year but made it easier to get photos of the ones you
wanted.
When the parade was over we walked to the playhouse and found the Silent
Auction had been moved inside because of the rain. Our donated items brought
$41 for the Arts Council and every little bit helps! While the auction was
going on the ceremonies preceding the ribbon cutting for the museum were
taking place in the theater with all the stars present. At the given moment,
Emmett Forrest used a huge pair of scissors...and I do mean huge...you
could'a mowed your lawn with them things ...to cut the ribbon and officially
open the museum to the public. What a thrill to be a part of that!

Floyd Walking

2009-06-04 Thread Ctmidway57
After the stroke, Floyd never walks again in the series. If you watch his
left arm, he never uses that again either. It is at his side, normally on a
chair armrest, or resting on the back of the barber chair but never again
could he use it.
What a great character actor...where are the great actors now???

Photos are NOT allowed in the museum any more. Seems someone took photos of
articles, printed them into larger photos and was selling them, so no more
photos! Only takes one to spoil the whole bunch!
I did have photos of the signs but in keeping with the wishes of the museum
I will not share them. They can be viewed in the new museum which is due
for completion, weather cooperating, hopefully, Maybe...in time for Mayberry
Days. It will be close but keep the fingers crossed!! Will be nice for
all the items to finally have a home, and maybe Andy, Gomer, Goober, all the
show's stars, can show up for the grand opening!

Anachronisms

2009-04-08 Thread Ctmidway57
Well, the Mayberry phone system may have been a little later than some
others in converting to dial, just like my hometown up in central Virginia.
When I
came to NC in 1963 I made a collect call to let my parents know I had made it
all right, so I picked up the phone and told the operator I needed to make a
collect call, gave her the town, and the number which was 7-5. She said,
7-5 what? I said, that's itjust 7-5.
She finally got the town and told the operator to dial 7-5 to which she
got the reply, I can't dial it but I can ring it! So, she rang it, and I
got
thru!
They were the good old days, where you had party lines with weird numbers
like 32W11 and 48J2, etc. You could keep up with all the neighbors if you had
a
party line since it was open line to whoever was on that line! So, Andy
was right on time with the phone operator and no dials on the phones!
And, since this was a sit-com, or situation comedy, I guess they could have
anybody do anything they wanted any way they wanted, as long as it was funny
with a good story behind it!
Pass the snake oil, I got a pain in my knee!

Hate Hannity where people can make video clips to send in. One was dressed

How much longer is it until Mayberry Days again? I need a fix...so
guess when the weather breaks to warm again we will have to boogie over to

Miracle salve

I found a good use for Miracle Salve.
if your car door squeaks, put on a little Miracle Salve and the squeak is

It is also good for waterproofing your hunting boots.
Apply to your windshield and wipe off real good and it works like the higher

I use it to coat my cameras when I go out on a rainy day and it keeps water

Mayberry Daze

2008-12-04 Thread Ctmidway57
At the next Mayberry Days, weather permitting, we should all gather and have
the CEO of the digest give us a pep talk! Then we could present him with
the keys to a brand new Cadillac! Then it would be up to him to find the one
the keys fit!!
I did that to a preacher we had one time when he retired and everyone got a
big kick out of it.
But I think we need to wait until the 20th year and present him with at
least a Westclox Scottie, or an Ingraham or some big name like that! I had a
Scottie one time and it kept perfect time until my mother ran it through the
wringer and that kinda done it in!!
All funnin' aside, Mr. Newsome has done a fantastical job running this here

gets up an hour early every day to do it.

Howard

2008-10-12 Thread Ctmidway57
Floyd, Howard McNear, after the stroke never had a part where he used his
left arm again. You can watch those parts and see his had is either propped on
the arm of the chair where he is sitting, or on the back of the barber's
chair if standing. I think a time or two he was holding a newspaper or
magazine
with that hand. None of that curbed his appeal and his humor certainly was
not diminished one bit!
Hard to imagine him playing a serious part, but the ones he was in surely
were done in a manner to be commended!
He was in a way like Barney. He could play any part and do a good job of it,

The Days

2008-10-02 Thread Ctmidway57
One big I forgot to add in my report about the days.the National Guard
vehicle was the last one in the line of march. As it approached us, I noticed
silence, so my wife and I started applause for these American Heroes. As the
vehicle slowly made its way down Main street, we followed alongside, making
sure the applause followed. That is not the main story. The main story is, at
the intersection of Main and Pine streets, there are Opie, Otis and Goober,
all standing at attention and saluting the National Guard as they passed by!
Made me feel really proud to be an American and to have such people as Tribute
 Artists!
My congratulations to Jamie Sullivan, Kenneth Junkin and Tim Pettigrew for
showing what patriotism is all about, and thanks for a swell weekend, guys!!

MAYBERRY 2008

2008-10-02 Thread Ctmidway57
9-25..Arrived in Mayberry (Mt. Airy) about 11AM and headed to Snappy Lunch
for our pork chop sandwich. Sorry for all those who couldn't have one!! Greeted
Emmett Forrest and Jim Clark while there, as well as Charles Dowell who owns
Snappy Lunch. After eating we went across the street to Mayberry on Main and
had a cup of Lemon ice cream...delicious!
After walking to a few stores we stopped at the playhouse to leave off a few
things for the silent auction, then checked into the Hampton Inn for 3
nights.
Friday 9-26 - Raining! A bright full rainbow greeted us when we walked out
the hotel!
A Rainy day in Mayberry beats a sunny day at work any time! Ate next door at
Biscuitville then headed downtown. Checked into several more stores before
heading to opening ceremonies. The rain stopped and stayed stopped until about
one minute after the ceremonies ended! All the guests were introduced and
given an opportunity to speak, then Hizzonner the Mayor spoke. One thing he
did
was present Emmett Forrest with an engraved crystal plaque for his service to
the town of Mt. Airy, and the Mayor even had a National Guard helicopter do
a fly-by for Emmett!
We walked to the playhouse but due to the rain not a lot was going on, so we
went back downtown for our lunch and to check out a few more places, some for
the second time. Then we headed to the playhouse for the Dillards concert,
then to the Library for the trivia contest won by Dennis Beale and Pat Bullins
 second.
We soon headed back to the hotel for some coffee and hot chocolate where we
met up with George Spence and had a good long fun talk with him.
We then got our baths and headed to the hospitality room where Praise in H
armony was gathered in an impromptu concert. About 9:30 LeRoy Mc Neese came in
and joined in with them, then joining the group was Michael Hoover and Jeff
Branch and we had a real concert! Things ended at 11:50 and we turned in for
the night.
9-27, Saturday...still raining. We got our biscuits from Biscuitville again
and drove downtown, got a parking space on the street and ate our food, then
got our spaces for the parade. At 9 the parade started and was over fairly
fast today as the rain kept many units away. What people need to realize, real
Andy fans are there rain or shine! Those who were there had a good time!
After the parade we attended the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new
building for Emmett's collection and a few other things. That was also inside
due
to rain!
We checked out the silent auction, in the lobby of the playhouse, before
heading downtown to Barney's for lunch. The rain had let up some so we walked
down to Wally's, through the replica courthouse, and looked at some of the
great
 old homes with nice design.
Time to go get our baths and head back down for Col. Tim's Talent Time and
what a show this was! Miss McGruder was a real beauty it there ever was
onein the beauty contest, no less. But she lost out to Big Maude! That was
just
one of the skits done and part of the great entertainment for 3 1/2 hours!
What a show and the ones who put it on and took part in it are to be commended
no end!
Sunday found us once more at the services in the amphitheater, led by LeRoy
and Janice McNeese and it was wonderful, as usual. What a great addition to
Mayberry Days! I think this is either 3 or 4 years they have done this.
After the services several of us gathered at Sagebrush to eat an early lunch
before saying our good-byes until next year. We headed up to Fancy Gap,
then south on the Parkway to Bluffs Lodge in Doughton Park for 3 nights to
watch
the wildlife and breathe the cool mountain air.
Once again Mayberry Days has come and gone. This was our 12th one and we
have enjoyed every one of them! We first heard of it thanks to David
Browning,
who was playing the Mayberry Deppity at the opening of a new Cracker Barrel
restaurant about 20 miles from us, so we went down for that and he told us
about Mayberry Days and we haven't missed since1998.
If there is one vacation you take a year, make this a part of it. It will be
the best vacation you ever take, but make room reservations early and get
show tickets early. Next year will be the 20th year of TAGSRWC so we this is
going to be BIG. Really BIG! I mean no other word can describe it but BIG! BE
THERE!!

Anyway, I will be getting to my report probably tomorrow, as I always keep a

2008-09-24 Thread Ctmidway57
There were no inconsistencies on the show. This is a situation comedy, in
which the players can play different parts under different names if the show is

writ that way. Like, Howard was not always Howard. Ernest T was not always
Ernest T. Mrs. Mendlebright was also Big Maude, as those situations called for
them to be that.
Had the show been a serial comedy, all players would have remained the same
throughout. That is the difference between a serial and a situation comedy.
I do hope that flipped the light switch and everyone can now see the
difference!
Whatever they do or did, what other show had such staying power through the
years? It must not have made any difference what they called themselves!!
See you at Mayberry! This will be our 11th consecutive trip and this one may
be kinda wet!

Sighting

2008-09-04 Thread Ctmidway57

The old movie 3:10 to Yuma was on the other day. Can't remember who was
trying to get Glen Ford to Yuma, but one of the guests in the hotel lobby
waiting
for them to come down when the train got there was the man who was not in a
hurry! He sat patiently in the hotel lobby reading his newspaper. Amazing how
tensed up he got from that time until Mayberry when he had to go so fast!
Floyd was best in his role of Chester on Gunsmoke when it was on the
radiddio way back when. I was in the service, 170 miles from home, and on
Friday
nights when I headed home for a 3 day off time I always listened to Floyd and
Doc and Parley Baer as Chester. Great shows! Along with another favorite, a
Tale well calculated to keep you inSUSPENSE!!
Also on was John Dehner but not selling snake oil to Aunt Bee, but playing
Palladin, and he was great in that as well!
See you at the end of the month at the Days!
