Hi, this was caused by spamming 2 collector issues in member space, each
holding a transcript of about 1 MB and more.

I removed the issues, blocked the spamming user account and finally
changed default roles for everything collector related to 'Manager'.

In greater detail: http://www.zope.org/Members should stay as it is to

mail.zope.org is the same service as cvs.zope.org (hosting the

Yeah, let's redirect it to foundation.zope.org, that's better than
what's in the original place.

We should also make www.zope.org/foundation point to
foundation.zope.org. I do not believe there's anything in /foundation
that isn't represented in foundation.zope.org.

Done
- moved the /foundation folder to /foundation_old
 (if there are things left to be copied)
- created a Redirector object /foundation
  that points to http://foundation.zope.org

I proposed to create a mapping from old to new page locactions
(including rewriting to recentchanges and FrontPage) and redirect on the

Another option is to remove/rename the wiki area on zope.org, set a

[ZWeb] zope.org frontpage modifications

2006-10-26 Thread Michael Haubenwallner

for the records, a few changes have been made recently:

zope.org frontpage
- left column
  replaced 'Zope Exits' with 'Zope Sites', now links to
  http://zopewiki.org/Sites (anyone can add links and reorganize)
- center column:
  added the first paragraph from MembersFAQ to fill the space
  betweem 'Zope for...' and the Zope/Plone training announcements
- right column:
  added a 'Planets' section on top of the sidebar
featuring planet.zope.org and planet.plone.org
- any other planets to include there ?
  changed the number of NewsItems in the 'News' section
from 7 to 5

zope.org/Wikis
- each ZWikiPage under that folder now has a message
  describing its 'read-only' state and the move
  to the new location at http://wiki.zope.org/...
  - the message is inserted into the
'header/portal_message' macro
called by main_template

Right now we have planetzope.org. It'd be nice if we could put this

We seem to have two alternatives: make planet.zope.org point directly to
planetzope.org by doing something DNSy, or alternatively setting up the
code that runs planet.zope.org on zope.org.

Michael, what kind of code is running behind planetzope.org? Where is it
hosted? What would have your preference?

It is a custom mix of unix tools, mark pilgrims feedparser module and
CMF used for the frontend and storage.

There are just 2 files changing at http://planetzope.org, the web
representation (index_html) and the RSS file (feed_rss.xml). Easiest
solution is updating an adaption of both files every hour to a location
at (planet.)zope.org -- the next zope.org will likely grow its own
planet solution...

See bottom ...

It might also be worth noting in the how-to that there does exist a
separable ZCatalog, created by Kevin Dangoor, available from

out of the Zope source tree and rewrites it a little so as not to require a
running Zope instance.

Quoting from that page:

This is completele unrelated to the Zope2.x "ZCatalog" and in fact
misleading if you do not pay close attention.

I am happy to update the how-to page if someone tells me how to access the

Maybe we don't have login on these pages; maybe use a different url for

I meant the bar holding the object, folder, user, workflow and global

It should be fairly trivial to work these in - remember, these types of
actions are not going to be for the general user populacethus

I was thinking every page would have this basic layout. I would think a
lot of traffic would come from search results and send people to

same on all pages. Having said that, I'll mock up a few sub pages.

See, you've got a first page, with one column and a sidebar floated to

Is the level2 template going to have the same sidebar all over, is it a
one-column layout, how about styles for headings, paragraphs,

I mailed Rob and Jim directly offering to help with an upgrade. They are

So where does this leave us ? Isn't it time to fork zope.org ? Not in

prove with running code and *happy users* that it works, and then come

May i suggest you have a look at

Hi, great work. Sorry, i missed you several times in IRC.

Let me check in this to:

zopeweb/trunk/content/documentation/z3tut/

Please check it in at that location

Temporarily I have put it here:
http://zissue.berlios.de/z3/collector-0.1.0.tar.bz2

Actually I want to keep 1 version for each part of tutorial
(i.e, in downloadable format)
So, create three branches for tutorial example ?
or just put tar balls seperately.

How do we manage content which is not required any version controlling
in new zope.org site like the above one (tar balls and other companion
materials like videos). All these dump to svn?

I wish someone from codespeak.net could comment on this.

I'd just store it off the repository for the moment and create a
document (like 'static.txt') with an annotated list of links to the
offsite material.

I think worldcookery.com and tiks.org are running using ReST and Zope 3.
Are we planning to use any of these?

Some thoughts on what you could do localy with the SVN checkout ::

  - just run the files through 'buildhtml.py'
   (included with your docutils distribution)
to look at the files in a browser
  - invest one hour and write a reST publisher to put some
decorations on top and bottom of the pages
ex: http://zopeweb.d2m.at/project.html
(this runs in z3, simply using the ressourceDirector directive)
  - reuse the packages the codespeak site is created from:
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/www/trunk/

Worldcookery has the 'Page' content type which renders text, reST and
STX to html, i added a HTML pass-through renderer and could provide a
checkout of a stand-alone 'page' package.

[ZWeb] zopeweb: about section

2006-02-09 Thread Michael Haubenwallner
I'd like to split up the 'about' section a bit further and want to
reintroduce the 'microsites' idea.

'About/Zope Technology' (currently at
http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/zopeweb/trunk/content/about/about.txt)

would be one main section of the 'About' area::

 - Zope Technology
- Microsites
  * ZMI + link to Documentation sections
  * ZPT + ...
  * CA  + ...
  * ZODB+ ...
  * SQL + ...
  * Catalog + ...
  * Security+ ...
  * ZEO + ...
  * i18n+ ...
  * Scripting   + ...
  * Extending   + ...
  * Web protocols   + ...
  * python  + ...
  * object publishing   + ...

If you agree, i'll create the folder structure for the microsites and
move the current descriptions into there.

The 'About' area iself could be structured into something like::

 - What is Zope
   - An Introduction to Zope
   - Zope Architecture

 - Zope Technology
- Microsites
  ... see above

 - Zope Success Stories
- Who uses Zope
- Case Studies
- Testimonials
- Zope Powered Sites
- Zope Solution Providers + link to Community sections

 - Zope Universe
- Who Maintains Zope
  - dev.zope.org
  - svn.zope.org
  - mail.zope.org
- zope.com

but i'm actively searching for a better structure.

[ZWeb] zopeweb: documentation section

Thats why i set the preliminary structure of the documentation section to::

  Documentation
  -

  Base Zope documentation:

  - What's new in {Zope2|3|CMF|Five} releases
  - ZopeBook
  - ZDG
  - z3 static API docs
  - Zope3Book

  Extended Zope documentation:

  - Article DB (tags/keywords)
  - Best-of-zope.org (Historical Docs)

(see: http://codespeak.net/svn/z3/zopeweb/trunk/functionality.txt)

It is all about (re)using existing documentation and create an
'article-db' for the new ones.

Second, i'd ask you to contribute a listing of documents (content) that
should be included with the article-db (this is more productive than
complaining about 'ZopeBook cruft').

I did that for old ZODB releases late last year. For example,

http://www.zope.org/Products/ZODB3.1

The listing made a lot more sense then, but had the unwanted side
effect of changing the "last modified" column to 2004-11-06 for all
final releases in the ZODB 3.1 line. It's not good (IMO) to lose the
original release date, but better that leaving the recent releases
near-impossible to find (incl. having the "Latest Release" blurb in
the upper right name an ancient release!).

I found that it is possible to use CMFRelease.setVersion() - protected
by ModifyPortalContent - to set the version string without changing the
ModificationTime of the object.

I have already created and tested a form and a script to change the
version string on existing SWRelease objects.

I suppose that between 20 and 50 SWPackage objects need to be touched.
Rules for changing the version-strings would be discussed/tested here
before modification.

Here is the listing of versions/urls from current /Products/Zope:
http://www.zope.org/Members/d2m/test/ProductsZope_now

After changing (almost all) version strings the listing looks like so:
http://www.zope.org/Members/d2m/test/ProductsZope_then

I used:
- 3 digit version numbers
 + ' a1',' a2',' b1',' rc1',... for alpha,beta and rc releases
 + '-final' for the released version
- '+Hotfix: -MM-DD ' prefix for the hotfixes

What do you think ?
