Right , in V3 we could do just that . Raytrace render just the
wireframe with very high AA and then the objects (glass,smoke
etc) the do a composite in an After Effects type program ,
varying the amount fade for each render to get the look you
wanted .

  We could do a similiar thing now by setting the 0,0,0 back-
ground as transparent in After Effects and combining the 2
images , but it's not as nice as rendering a wireframe with
a nice alpha channel for compositing .

  We could also do a post processing effect if the controls
were there , but at the moment the "Combine 2 Images" is
just for images on disk . It _could_ be modified so that
it would combine an image on disk with the current render
and even offer an alpha channel colour .

  I guess it would take very little coding to create a VSL
material that would make the object completely transparent
(or partially visible) and then render that scene with
outlines , which would be fine for my needs , but the out-
lines do not seem to be controlled by the AA settings and
do not look very good for printing or other professional
outputs .

 Maybe an advanced VSL material is possible .
