[Dx4win] XF4IH

2004-03-03 Thread ian fugler
I was surprised that XF4IH did not show up as a new country in my packet
window. When I checked, DX4WIN had assumed that it was Mexico. I logged it
and changed the prefix to XF4. I then deleted the QSO and, of course, it
then showed up as a new country within the packet window. Now, I just to
need to work it for real! But at least the alerts will recall me to the
radio whenever it's spotted.

Just thought I'd mention this, in case anybody else has a similar
experience.

Let know, if you need the instructions to set the F3 key. I will then

that in the drop down menu for that window was a option toggle Holding I
clicked on that and the spots started to fall like rain on an English

cleared

Re: [Dx4win] Cluster Spots

2013-10-27 Thread Ian Fugler

Go to PreferencesQSO and change the frequencies in the CW cut-off.

But this weekend is not typical. You will find SSB stations operating in
the CW section of the band, especially on 40m. So, your CW cut-off for 40m
may be set as 7040. But there will be SSB operation below that this
weekend.

The goal would be to integrate them into the same spot window and two
color-tag the SOTA spots to distinguish them from the DXcluster spots.

Is this possible in DX4Win? I know of folks doing this with Logger32.

You can't do it directly in DX4WIN. You could use the CC User program
by VE7CC to merge the spots and feed them into DX4WIN. Create a
primary CC User instance connected to your normal DX Cluster node.
Connect DX4WIN to this instance via the Local telnet node. Create a
secondary CC User instance connected to the SOTA cluster.
Unfortunately, there is no way to color-code the spots in DX4WIN.

See: http://www.ve7cc.net/#Linking

What is the Telnet address etc. of the SOTA-only cluster node?

Have you tried the various options within the 'Sort' menu (by right clicking
on the DX Spot window)? You could sort by priority so that any blue/red...
spots are shown at the top of the Window, or (as I do) Sort by frequency,
which makes it easier to see them on each band. Or you could deselect any
Black/Grey spots altogether within the Packet 1 options under Preferences.

I am running 8.05 with Jim's (AD1C) latest update of Jan 28th.

I have never worked or logged a /MM station in the past as a maritime mobile

does not count for Cocos. I was looking to see if I could Force the
contact to another prefix entity but that would not solve the problem
either. Then I thought maybe there is a prefix listing of /MM (Maritime
Mobile) that would basically not count the contact for anything. But as you
guessed, not found. Is this an idea Jim could implement in his next database
update or is that more of a Paul update for the program itself? I don't
think you can leave the prefix field blank, can you?

So anyway, how do you log a /MM station so it does not count for an entity?
Other than not logging it...

Thanks,
Brian - NX0X

Re: [Dx4win] vc_redist.x86.exe fails to install

2017-01-26 Thread Ian Fugler
By way of update, I managed to install the missing 140.dll file by accessing
the Microsoft site. The new version of Update is now working fine.

I did have the very latest updates to the OS installed, but it seems that this
particular dll file was not present.

Many thanks, Jim

Re: [Dx4win] Frequency main window (By default)

2017-06-16 Thread Ian Fugler
What happens when you go to Radio on the main menu page? Does it say 'Start
Radio' or 'Stop Radio'? Click Start, if you can.

The issue sounds as though DX4WIN is not seeing the rig. It's nothing to do
with the Spots. As Jim says, if you and in live QSO logging mode (F9), the
DX4WIN should follow the radio's frequency. Get that working first, then
try clicking on a spot.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the answer!
DX4Win version, as indicated in my previous e-mail, is 8.05.
When I spin the dial on the radio the frequency in the QSO window do NOT
change , it maintains 18.165,93 MHz.
When I click in one spot radio goes to that frequency, in QSO window
momentarily freq is the same as spot but after that (less than one second)
goes to 18.165,93 MHz...what can be wrong? Should I re-install the program?
Appreciate your help!

Re: [Dx4win] Problem with exporting LoTW

2017-10-12 Thread Ian Fugler
Hi, Sam

I upload to LOTW regularly as follows:

F8 (Search)

Date - enter the first date of the required export
- enter the last date of the required export. Note this assumes
that you have the date set to Range.

File>Import/Export>ADIF

Say yes to the question as to whether to use the active filter for the
export.

Save the exported ADIF file somewhere

Then use TQSL to upload that ADIF file.

It takes seconds and works fine

Subject: [Dx4win] Problem with exporting LoTW

Hello everyone..

I have been having a problem with exporting to LoTW, and I am at my wit's
end trying to figure it out. After the recent CQWW rtty test I imported my
log from n1mm+ and I was successful with over 1500 contacts being imported.
I selected the "set LoTW flag" when I did this, and indeed the LoTW flag was
set to "Y" for all these contacts. When I then tried to export from DX4WIN
(8.5) for submission to the LoTW web site I got a message that only about
150 contacts were being exported. I then aborted the export and clicked N
to "do you want to clear the upload flag".

All my contacts (1500+) still have the LoTW flag set to "Y" but now when I
try to export I get the message that "Exports finished, no QSOs were
written".

I then tried to set the "Filter" function by creating a new group with the
Date Filter box checked and of course the first and last dates entered.
This did not work either. I know the answer is simple but for the life of
me I have not been able to find it.

What am I doing wrong?

Re: [Dx4win] Callsign lookups.

2017-11-14 Thread Ian Fugler
Paul/Jim

Right, I have managed to get the issue to repeat.

Use an F8 search to look for all QSOs with IOTA OC001. Because DX4Win knows
that there is only one island name under that group, it automatically fills
in the Iota island field. Then do a fresh F8 search for anybody you know is
in your log, preferably not on OC-001. On mine, it fails to find any QSOs.
I looked for my uncle with whom I have had dozens of QSOs. I had to restart
DX4Win to get out of the 'No matching QSO' loop.

I hope that makes sense. It seems that the new feature in version 9 whereby
it completes the Island Name field is causing a problem in subsequent F8
searches.

Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Callsign lookups.

Hello Ian - you were the first with the answer and how very simple it turned
out to be. I am sure that I never had to use 'ALT' in 8.05 but just F3!

I gave up using DX4Win as my main logger some time ago because I got
frustrated with its deficiencies, although I kept v8.05 current, in parallel
with DXKeeper (probably because, being retired, I could) and when I saw the
upgrade available thought I would invest the few dollars and see what
difference it made.

There are a very large number of 'corrections' necessary if I want to get
things back to a pristine condition in DX4Win - some things like correcting
the mode are very easy but other things, like correcting the report boxes,
will take many hours of patient work, but I will give it a try and see what
becomes of it all. DXKeeper does all the data collection (mode and report,
for instance) perfectly but, to a computer battler as I am, it is dreadfully
complicated and, for me, my major complaint is that it does many more things
that I do not want than things I need and do want!

Ian, thanks again, stay happy, healthy and safe and 73 from VK3.

Re: [Dx4win] F8 Lookup Specific QSO by Callsign

2017-11-13 Thread Ian Fugler
Paul

Yes, it works fine almost all the time. But every so often, I go to do a new
F8 search (all the fields are blank) and it won’t find all the contacts. For
instance, I searched for QSOs with ES0U today. I entered his call in the
callsign box, leaving all the others blank. It found a QSO in July 2008. The
‘Same call’ box showed another contact in 2012, but it would not tab down to
that QSO. Restarting DX4Win sorted it.

This happens every so often and I can find no discernible pattern to it, which
is why I have not mentioned it. Anyway, it is very intermittent and a simple
restart cures it, so I am not overly concerned by it. I am still a happy
Dx4Win user!

When you press F8, all fields in the QSO Window should be blank.

When you enter a call to search you follow that by pressing Enter.

Note that F8 only works when the QSO Window has the focus.

I have exactly the same issue. It does not seem to happen every time and I

re-start DX4Win and then it works.

I can confirm that. It's not just the callsign search, but others as well
(DXCC, etc.). Restarting DX4Win fixes it.

Re: [Dx4win] F8 Lookup Specific QSO by Callsign

2017-11-13 Thread Ian Fugler
Nope, I have exact matching switched on. I just used that as a recent,
specific example. It did the same yesterday when I searched for all QSOs with
a particular IOTA group. It found no QSOs at all, but when I restarted DX4WIN
and did the same F8 search, it found them fine. I do know how to use F8. But
I cannot get it to repeat this highly intermittent feature.

The other QSO may be with a similar partial call, like ES0UN.

I don't think that you are missing something. I too would like to be able

A small enhancement request, please Paul

The "Spots to ignore: Gray and Black" setting ignores gray and black spots
in the packet window - these are the P8 or P9 spots that are by default,
gray or black.

It would make the filtering so much more powerful if this setting also
ignored spots that are set by the user to be gray or black. For example I
would like to hide P6 and P7 spots by setting them as gray on white in the
Preferences.

Unless I am missing something, of course.

Thanks

The Country editor has not yet been enabled in V9. This has been mentioned

I presume that VK9GMW maps to Mellish Reef only for the duration of that

In 2009 Ha7RY activated VK9GMW on Mellish Reef. If I type that call in the

Also, I can't access the country database. I get "Country editor not

Re: [Dx4win] Creating a ADIF file

Do you want to export your entire log as an ADIf file? If so, here is the
sequence:

File
Import/Export
Export
ADIF
File
Export
Choose a file name and location to which to save it. (Not carefully where
you ask it to save the file.)

You can exportADIF is the first/ top choice and then hit export again.
I'm at work and can't look at DX4WIN to give you exact details. But you
just want to export in an ADIF format.

Greetings,

I downloaded new LOTW confirmations today (81 of them), saved to an .adi file,
then used that file to confirm QSO’s in my log. After importing these
confirmations I noticed that the state and county was updated but not the LOTW
confirmed flag, rather the eQSL flag was changed to Y. I’ve never uploaded to
eQSL and don’t use that method to QSL. I filtered the Q’s that had an eQSL flag
of Y and manually changed to LOTW flag to Y. I’m just wondering why this
happened. Any thoughts? I’m okay with “operator error” but I’d like to know
what I did wrong so I never do it again!

[Dx4win] DX4WIN

2020-04-17 Thread Ian Fugler

Paul

Many thanks for your email, which I'm sure we all appreciated.

I fully understand your position about automatic uploads. I can see that a
functionality used as frequently as that and which depends on real time
integration with other (third party) systems is likely to lead to more requests
for assistance.

With regard to UDP interfacing locally with other applications running on the
same PC, that does seem to to be the functionality which most of us seeking
some upgrades would dearly love to see, please. I do hope that you find time
to look further into that aspect, please.

We all agree that Jim AD1C does a superb job with support generally and
especially with the country database and award files. (Thank you again, Jim.)

Hi,

Having read most, most likely all, messages I want to share some of my
thoughts.

1. Automatic uploads, possibly one QSO at a time, is not in my plans. My
main reason is that I expect that it requires more support than I'm willing
to provide. If something goes wrong, they call or write me while it may
have nothing to do with DX4WIN. Think about issues with certificate
changes, server not responsive etc. I simply do not have the time or
desire to add this to my support load. Using an ADIF file is a nice
separation between DX4WIN and other applications processing such file.

Note that I get plenty of emails regarding lost or misplaced license files
etc.
A number of users do not like to use the reflector for a support question,
so
I field those.

2. Interfacing with other applications UDP
Have to admit, that so far I have not found out how to do this. I would
like to
support such an interface.

Jim, AD1C, provides great support maintaining the country database, the
custom awards etc etc. He also helps users that ask him for help. I also
want to recognize the users of the reflector who are willing to put in
their
time to help other users.

I think some of you have the wrong idea about the company behind
DX4WIN. It is literally a one-man show. I'm retired and I'm glad to have a
reasonable retirement income. Income from DX4WIN is nice but it does
not feed the family!

Stay Safe

Have you checked that the ADIF import file is correct? I seem to recall that

FT4 is a sub-mode of MFSK. If you select MFSK as your main mode, FT4 is then

[Dx4win] County Award question - Alaska

I believe the reason is because only paper cards can be used to make claims for
the County award. Unfortunately, LOTW confirmations do not yet count.

You can amend the award settings in DX4WIN to make LOTW confirmations count. I
have done that.

Re: [Dx4win] DXCC Color Codes (revised )

In my email to you on Sunday, I wrote:

"Have you entered all of your LOTW and QSL card-in-hand in your log? Just
trying to eliminate DX4WIn being unaware that you have worked and had a QSO
confirmed."

It seems that the answer was no! I suggest that you go into LOTW and use the
Download Report to produce an ADIF file with all your LOTW matches. In the
'QSLs Received Since' box, put the date of your earliest QSO. Save the ADIF
file somewhere safe.

Then in DX4WIN, use the LOTW menu to 'Confirm LOTW using ADIF file' option.
Find the file that you have just downloaded from LOTW and DX4Win will do the
matching.

I import the adif log from JTDX every few days. It now fails to import the

But I cannot find how/where to do that. Any hints would be appreciated,

[Dx4win] Importing FT* log

2022-07-15 Thread Ian Fugler
I have just reinstalled DX4WIN after a PC wobbly. All is working well and I
had saved a config file. I have one issue and cannot recall how to resolve it.

I import the adif log from JTDX every few days. It now fails to import the log
because of the duplicates. I know there is a setting somewhere in DX4WIN to
make it essentially ignore dupes and only import the new QSOs. But I cannot
find how/where to do that. Any hints would be appreciated, please.

Ian G4IIY

I have found the DX4WIN.CTY file to be a very distracting activity. I
 have a
number of other neglected projects around the house (we are having some
painting done, including the home office), so there will be NO
 DX4WIN.CTY
updates until after the New Year.

I'll post announcements to the reflector in case any special
 (non-standard)
 callsigns are activated.

 Enjoy the holiday season!

 Hi Dick;

 find the log file in the DX4Win directory; just copy it to a memory stick;
and put it in the lap top; under the same directory

I have DX4WIN on my PC and have just loaded it on my lap top. It is
 working
ok on the lap top and all looks ok. I have been backing up my log on the
 PC
with a USB memory stick. Can someone tell me how to transfer the log info
 on
the stick into DX4WIN on my lap top. I can't figure it out and don't want
 to
mess up what I have already done. Help appreciated.

[Dx4win] Keyboard Shortcuts

2008-10-12 Thread Ian Fugler G4IIY
Does F12 not do something similar? I am not at the PC with DX4WIN at the
moment, so cannot test.

  Subject: [Dx4win] Keyboard Shortcuts

Many of us use Writelog for our contest logging. In writelog (and I think CT
in the old days) Alt W is used to clear the QSO entry window. In a contest you
Alt W a lot, so it is second nature to Alt W if you want a clear QSO entry
window.

In DX4Win it's F9 plus respond to the do you really want to pop-up, if
you've made any QSO relevant entries. I for one sure would like to have my Alt
W key work in DX4Win. I was hoping there was a way to customize keyboard
shortcuts, but I couldn't find it.

Has anyone been successful in this regard?

Still a happy DX4Win customer, with almost 57K QSOs in the log.

[Dx4win] Import/Export

2009-01-10 Thread Ian Fugler G4IIY
ViestiI have just accidently deleted the ADIF option in the Import/Export menu.
Could someone let me know which file it is, please? Is it the one with the
IEP extension in the SAVe directory?

I can copy from a back-up directory, but only want to copy the relevant file.

Many thanks, Ian___
