If the fluid requirements are the same as for my '98 M3, then D4 ATF.

BTW, the fluid spec should be in the Owner's Manual.

Good choice :-)

At least, I *thought* it was. As Dave pointed out to me, the Owner's Manual
does NOT indicate which fluid, nor how much (I must of been thinking of the
manual for my 325is).

In addition to the Bentley manual, I have a Haynes manual for the E36, and
it lists the type of fluid for manual transmissions as Dexron II type ATF.

Sorry for any confusion.

You can use D4ATF (most recommended) or MTL or MT90 depending on your intended use and
level of protection you want versus shiftability (is that a word?). Certain industry
people recommend MTL or MT90 for added protection (I believe Jim Blanton does for one)
and better syncho operation. But, the thicker oils will make cold weather operation
more difficult until the tranny oil warms up.

Compared to motor oil, these are the respective weights and viscosities at two
different temps of Red Line tranny oil:

D4ATF - 0W20 - 34.0 centistokes at 40C & 7.5 centistokes at 100C
MTL - 5W30 - 50.8 centistokes at 40C & 10.2 centistokes at 100C
MT90 - 15W40 - 89.2 centistokes at 40C & 14.7 centistokes at 100C
(per Dave at RedLine Oil)

That is a good choice.

I've been looking all over for the current draw that
these coils have. Anyone know where the specs are?

Alternatively, I woul also be interested in the
current of the driver in the DME ECU.

Well I have decided to sell the M3, and would like it
to go to a good home, if you know of anyone in the
market please send them my way. Reason for selling,
I'm building a spece30 car to race.
1995 M3
Alpine white
Dove Gray Interior

This is a very nice and well maintained M3 and is not
a track rat. The car has the following mods; Front
suspension: x-brace, BMW motorsport strut brace, H&R
springs, Eibach adjustable sway bars, Koni SA struts,
reinforcing plates, 97 m3 strut hats swaped for
additional camber, new control arms and bushings. Rear
suspension: e46 shock mounts with z3 reinforcing
rings, new RTAB with GC inserts. Engine/Driveline:
Conforti intake and chip, RE exhaust, RE SS w/ WSR,
all shifter parts replaced, RE LTW flywheel and new
clutch, water pump replaced with metal impeller unit,
aluminum themostat housing. The suspension was done at
60000 miles, and the oil changed every 3000. Asking
$18,000.00 nego, email during the day, phone after 6pm

You guys and your silly sacrilege to the E30 M3. There is no big deal putting the E36
M3...errr....332is motor into the E30 M3. You guys act like they are so rare as to be
ultra valuable. Last I checked, pristine E30 M3s were still below $20k and a rolling
chassis was well below $10k, I wouldn't exactly call either ultra collectible. Don't
get me wrong, I am not endorsing taking a pristine example and doing a transplant (I
wouldn't for a pristine 325is either), but there are plenty of candidates out there.

I would find the best E30 chassis you can find (garden variety or M3) and do a
transplant.

Regards,

Rich - still would like an E30 M3 some day...

Reminds me of the late eighties I purchased a 2002 from a student a Berkely,
who was having trouble making the payments. The car was rough, but all I
needed was something to drive. The car drove straight and passed the
"redline test" so I bought it. Turns out it had a massive clip job,
basically from the rear floor to the tunnel all the way up the front on the
passenger side. Probably had been t-boned. It served my needs for a year
and I traded it on a 74 911 Targa, and . . .. that's a different story.

I am looking at snow tires and don't want to spend much more than $70 per
tire. TireRack usually offers the best deals, and TireSavings.com has
Semperit Sport Grips for under $65 per.

Here are my options in size 185/65 / 15:

Dunlop Graspic DS-1
Michelin Artic-Aplin
Winterforce M+S
or
Semperit Sport Grip

I will be swapping between these "winter" tires and all-seasons during the
winter depending on the road conditions and forecasted weather. I'm
leaning toward the Dunlops.

Do it once, do it right:

Hakkapeliitta Q (not available at TireRack, but better
than most all of what they sell)

Of course I should stay out of this again this year, but why not the
Bridgestone Blizzak? This happens to be the tire of choice again this year
from the Tire Rack. Ask any salesperson there and they are out-performing
every other tire that they offer.
I have used these personally for over 7 years now and they work absolutely
spectacular. NO, they are not an ultra-performance tire, but is that why
you buy a snow tire anyway? They are a whole lot softer than a typical all
season tread, but actually offer traction in the most adverse conditions. I
have used them on my MB diesels as well as a few E28's, E30's, and E34's
with tremendous success.

Gruppe,

Does anyone have the instructions for aiming the sealed beam headlights on an E30? I
vaguely remember you park X distance from your garage door or wall and then measure
the height of the centerline of the light or somesuch. I think it's in the Bentleys,
but mine appears to be on permanent loan to a friend.

I thought that Smiller had a nice writeup but I can't seem to find it in the archives.

Here are a few other option's

1:) Next time drive the car before you buy it. If it behaved badly at over
50 you would have noticed.

2:) Get "the friend" who sold it to you to refund all your money.

3:) If option #2 does not work, slap "friend" upside his head about 3 or 4
times. At this point he may reconsider option #2.

I have a 1995 E-36 M3 with the 3.0L engine. For a while I was looking into
making it a 3.2L. The easiest way would be to buy a 3.2 shortblock and add
my heads. I was told the OBDI heads off a 1995 3.0L M3 will fit on a 1996+
3.2L M3 block without any problem. This sounds easy but try locating a 3.2
short block for a reasonable price.

Well fait has sent a 1996+ 3.2L M3 3.2 crank down my way. Will replacing the
crank in my block make it into a 3.2? Will anything else be needed for the
swap? Will the stock rods and pistons (from the 1995 3.0L) work with the
3.2L crank?

Has anyone done this before?

Thank You

Bill P

The current list config is set to default to reply to
the sender as
opposed to the list.

This is likely part of it, you aren't seeing the
"chatter" that you saw
before.

Speaking of which, let's take this thread off-list.
The non-BMW content
is
likely boring those who could care less about list
nonsense.

I think I'm going to go with the Artic Alpins. In 185/65 R15, the total is
$220 with Michelins $40 rebate.

Costo, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, even my company's national agreement with
Bridgestone/Firestone can't beat that.
