Anyone know the hose types for an '89 E30 ,320i?

I am replacing them but I have one which came in the "kit" which I cannot
find a place for. It is about 6 inches long with two caps on the end.

I have replaced the lower and upper radiator hoses, the long one that goes
through the distributor area, the T line to the coolant recovery and
heater, the two to the thermostat from the throttle fixture, the short
stubby one at the top of the thermostat, and finally the other one against
the firewall.

Howdy,

I'm setting up our '93 325is for track day duty and would love to get some
recommendations for inexpensive steering wheels.

Primary goal is to eliminate the airbag, secondary goal is to not have it
look like I just unbolted the airbag and have a steering wheel I like the
feel of. :-)

As I understand it, I'll need a steering wheel and then also a hub. The
hub can be quick release or not (I'd prefer quick release, but only if it
doesn't cost a bunch of money... I'll have just a rollbar in the car now
but may at some point have a cage w/door bars where I'll want a quick
release).

Anything else I'll need?

How about horn functions? The car is still used on the street as well.

Cheaper is _way_ better. I'd appreciate any "been there, done that"
advice.

Thanks!

Mark

google for m3_gtr_nurburgring.wmv and you'll find lots of pointers. One
of them worked for me. It's a 55MB download, but zow! fun.

I'm pulling my hair out...

Can someone with some product cross-selling
knowledge tell me if these two
part numbers are the same physical radiator?

A gentleman that was sold the wrong radiator for
his 1995 530i

He has BMW part number (17 11 1 702 453) which is
for a 1994 540i external
oil cooler.

I have a 1995 540ia which needs a part number (17
11 2 242 138).

HALF of the parts websites want to sell me the
same radiator for either car,
the dealer offers me no useful info (typical). I
could go to the actual
dealership and have him show me the radiators for
the two part numbers above
and see if they're the same, but I'd rather not.

Anyone?

Thanks,
David M

The two part numbers you list are NOT interchangeable according to BMW's
supercession list. They are distinctly individual parts.

17 11 1 702 453, radiator with integral transmission cooler, E34 530iA from
9/93 production. E34 530i/5spd from 6/94 production. E34 530iT from 9/93
production.

17 11 2 242 138, radiator without transmission oil cooler. E34 530i/5spd up
to 6/94, All E34 540iA and 540i/6spd, All E32 740i/iL and 850CSi.

Not sure why the late 530i/5spd would use a radiator with an oil cooler, but
one could assume that it is interchangeable with the 138 unit.

The radiators are completely interchangeable in physical fit, so if you
don't need an oil cooler, you can still use the 453. If you do need one, you
can't use the 138.

Why does this person feel that the 453 is for external trans cooler.

Don't do that unless you have plenty to spare...

It is radiator for a EURO 1994 540i without a/c (not for any US E34s 540i
just to be clear). It is also the radiator for the 530i with auto tranny
produced from 9/93 and manual tranny cars produced from 6/94.

It appears it is the correct radiator for his 1995 530i in my opinion. Why
do you say that it is wrong?

Yep, that appears correct. It is also the radiator for the 530i manual
tranny cars produced up to 6/94...

:-)

Well, if I was to hazard a guess, the two BMW radiators above aren't
necessarily interchangeable (or BMW likely would have done that to reduce
the number of parts in their system). But, the aftermarket has possibly
made the same radiator for both applications or they don't know their own
parts very well.

When I looked at one aftermarket source, the part numbers were different for
the two models you mentioned though (G1000-38785 versus G1000-38786 ).

Rich

Brett apparently has the answer:

While the two radiators will fit in either car,
the 453 version has a built in oil cooler. My
1995 540ia has a seperate oil cooling system. So
I could, in theory, buy it and install it in my
car and just opt not to use the oil cooling
portion of the radiator.

It's gathering dust on the guy's floor and is
making me a reasonable deal, so I'm very tempted.

I'm looking for a wheel storage bag that will protect
my summer wheels from dust and dirt while they sit
waiting for summer to arrive again. I know BMP was
giving away a storage bag like this a few months ago
when you bought a wheel and tire set, but I don't know
of anywhere to buy just the bag. Anyone have any
sources?

Thanks,
Brian

Does anyone know whether a 15" stock wheel from an E36 will work on an E39?

I guess I'm wondering whether the centre hole is the same and if the offset
is close enough.

Thanks.

No.

The hub is different first off (and then the offset if different as well by
~20mm but this is irrelevant due to the hub issue).

Rich
