Also, while pricey, the E39 manuals are a great help, especially as much of the cars are similar (Drivetrainwise). Chris, if you want to get ALL the corrosion, you're going to have to bead blast to get into all the little small crevices, etc. Sand down the rough spots after that. Steel wool will make a nice brushed finish if you can get all the original clearcoat off first. Clear after that is fine. Plus I'd have to dismount/mount the tire, I think, not sure if it would all fit. I'll try to take some photos. Whatever I do has to look better than they do now which is what some battery terminals have looked like. It will remove the corrosion & leave a nice surface for a couple coats of epoxy primer to adhere to. Go to www.realoem.com and look them up. Or better yet talk to someone with current ETK discs. Phil Davis 89 325i 87 325 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? He subsequently found a 325is, so he needs to sell this 318. I've seen the car -- it's definitely a "project" rather than a "buy-and-drive," or could also make a nice parts donor. Here are the details: 1991 318is manual, VIN WBAAF9317MEE70613 Diamond Schwartz, tan checkered cloth interior Drivetrain. Only 94K miles on the odometer; tranny, driveshaft and diff in good shape. Body. The good: The shell is relatively rust-free. There are a couple of surface rust spots on the sunroof, but that's all I could see. Trunk seams are original, so the car was not repaired in the rear -- although rear bumper looked like it was repainted. The bad: the car was repaired in the front, including a retro conversion to an aluminum bumper -- a first for me. Both fenders have been replaced, and poorly painted. The left fender rusted through at the bottom corner, and needs to be replaced again. It didn't look like there was structural damage to the chassis, but it was hard to see. This would be my main area of concern, and should be looked at more closely. Suspension/Brakes. The PO slammed the car down by over 2 inches. Basically, all wear components need replacing -- springs, shocks, control arms, bushings, etc.. This has simply been neglected. The brakes have been recently done -- new rotors and pads all around. Interior. Clean -- no rips, tears, stains, cigarette burns, etc.. The dash has no cracks. Although this is an "is," the front seats are not sport -- they match the rest of the interior, so I am pretty sure they are original. Electrical/Other: The PO installed an aftermarket Sony CD player and an alarm system. Given how they were installed and the hideousness of the CD player, I'd take them both out. Side markers are missing. Same with the windshield washer fluid nozzles in the hood. Red Optima battery in the trunk -- needs to be secured. Power windows and locks work. I didn't check the AC (too cold) or other minor electrical -- just focusing on the main stuff. Basically, if the front end is structurally OK, the car needs some TLC -- fresh suspension, new front bumper and spoiler, new left fender, repaint rear bumper and front fenders, side markers, new tires. Asking $1600 OBO -- the seller is very motivated. If interested, please contact George at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>. Pictures available on request. I would see if the usual suspects (aka FCP Groton, BMA, JJ$ or Rich Dorffer Autosport, etc) can get you an good deal on a factory unit. I bought factory to play it safe on the e36 318is, I think it was approx 600ish. This was after going to Midas for a laugh and they wanted $1200. hth, Cheers, Jim Laing Evo Clown On 4/18/07, Fuerst Chris <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > What state was that from? > Links? We were selling our bad converters to a local scrap guy for $75 each until someone I know put a set of V8 ones on Ebay, as scrap, and got over $250 for the pair. Ebay won't let you sell them as "good", only as scrap. It is illegal to sell used cats unless you are certified to do so. Certified companies have to have the ability to test the units. Not many people are certified.
