I supposedly works with a hall effect sensor and counts the revolutions of the shaft (so it must be have magnetic regions on the ring) to determine the window location. You can remove the motor "can" with a torx bit and gently pull the motor out and the magnet will be on shaft at which point you can move it along the shaft. It won't come out completely from the gear section. You can also take the time to clean up the motor's commutator. I'd like to take a broken regulator and determine where in the motor gear section you can drill a hole to gain access to the magnet to re-position and glue it down. -Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail communication is confidential and is intended only for the individual(s) or entity named above and others who have been specifically authorized to receive it. I've bought cars with perfectly clean histories and zero paint or bodywork and they come up with some little crap where someone at the license branch typed in a wrong odometer number (it happens ALL the time) or some such. On the flip side, and...more important for buyers, I've ran carfaxes on trade-ins or cars I see at auction that have obviously been near or at the 'total' definition, and they have clean carfaxes. I sell 20 or so cars a month and, believe me, carfax sucks and is of NO indication that your car is what they say it is. If you know a friend that bought a subscription, USE IT. Don't buy one. If it is illegal, then come sue me, I welcome it. If you think it is not 'fair' to carfax, then tell that to someone who bought a previously wrecked car based on a clean carfax report...I have personally seen over 50 cars with tons of paintwork and bodywork on them with clean carfax records. I think carfax should be banned and a very large class action suit should be started and put those [EMAIL PROTECTED] out of their misery. A car is usually a person's second largest investment (next to their house). Look at the car and judge with your eyes...don't trust carfax. It's not to determine window position. -Kevin ---------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail communication is confidential and is intended only for the individual(s) or entity named above and others who have been specifically authorized to receive it. This is intermittent, so sometimes the radio plays fine, then when we change a station, it will cut out. AM and WB have no problems. Station display is ok, although ST disappears when cut-out occurs. Issues could be either radio head or antenna amplifier. When I interrupt power to antenna amplifier, none of the bands work, as expected. Any help would be appreciated, including referrals to a shop that might be able to repair the radio, if that is where the problem lies. When I went to put the window up, I heard those terrible crunching sound and the window refused to go up. I did manage to at least unclip the rear door panel enough to get my hand in there and manually push the window up. So the question is, is the same thing as those window clips that like to break on the E36? If so, does anyone have the part number, or will I need to replace the entire regulator? If I hit the button I can hear the motor whirring away, and it sounds like it is going up and down... And I have to ask, while looking at the rear of the car, I noticed that in the right hand exhaust pipe, there is some sort of flap that opens and closes? What the heck is that thing, and should it be open or closed when the car isn't running?? 2001 330i if that makes any difference... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2007 10:44:36 -0400 From: KMS- Brett Anderson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "DUNLAP, LARRY" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, uuc Digest <[email protected]> Subject: Re: E46 rear door window Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Not the same as E36. That's a whole new regulator. Common problem on E46s, though mine have been perfect for 6 years; knock on wood. >And I have to ask, while looking at the rear of the car, I noticed that >in the right hand exhaust pipe, there is some sort of flap that opens >and closes? That valve is supposed to be for some sort of backpressure regulation. I've never heard definitively what exactly it does. I believe it's on all E46 330s except ZHP, all 325xi ATs and all 325 SULEV ATs, but not on other models. Lots of people disconnect the vacuum line to the actuator, plug the line with a golf tee, and claim the exhaust sounds better, so the default position should be open.
