Hello it’s Peter here. Welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well.

I’ve just been reading in the paper that Britain is being warned about a harsh
winter ahead. The Met office has warned that the gas and electricity suppliers
in this country are to be prepared for prolonged cold spells in December and
January. I don’t think the diminutive weather man told us anything about that!
Well that’s according to the paper anyway – “Big freeze may lead to power cuts”
is the headline.

If you live at Victoria Dock of course, which is looking particularly beautiful
this morning, it’s no problem as it doesn’t matter how deep the snow is - you
can still walk to work. Talking of which, North Bridge is now beautifully
gift-wrapped and I think we’re only a couple of months away from the
re-opening, which will be good news for all.

Tonight at 6.30pm
=================

Join me tonight on the programme for all the day’s news. I’ll be talking to one
big TV soap star, who has been in Coronation Street for many years and is in a
musical at the moment – Annie Get Your Gun! And who is he? Well he played Jim
MacDonald in Coronation Street and I shall be talking to the actor who plays
Jim tonight on the programme.

Emails
======

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects. Let me just read a couple to
you. One from Roy here – I especially liked the story about attempting to
record the Top 40 show which Alan Freeman used to present on Sundays on Radio
One. I used to have the same problem and could never quite manage to record the
whole track. How things have changed. In those days we used to have to wrestle
with a cassette, these days of course with the iPod, you just plug in and
download music. How things have changed.

Also talking last week about situation comedies - There was a follow up to “Are
You Being Served” which never quite worked. I couldn’t even remember what it
was called. Well Martin Storey emails me to say it was called Grace and Favour.
Mind you we probably had a million other emails on the subject. Well we didn’t
actually – this was the only one!

And finally just one more cheeky email from Julie, saying I wonder if it’s
possible to say hello on your newsletter to my mum. She never misses the show
and she would be over the moon to read a mention in the Levy Letter. Can you
congratulate her on losing so much weight in these last months. We’re all very
proud of her and we think it would be a lovely surprise. So let’s give a
mention in the Levy Letter to Barbara Webster. Well done on losing all that
weight.

Leslie Hornsby
==============

Amazing to read in the paper that Twiggy, the model from the 60s, is looking so
glamorous and stunning. She was 56 yesterday and she’s looking great in the
papers. Whereas the rest of us get older every day! Apart from Anne Robinson of
course who seems to get younger every day!

Dinners
=======

I’ve been reading that Britons are so unadventurous in the kitchen that two out
of three families stick to the same menus every week. Research has found that
in many households, the food on the table can be predicted day by day. Monday,
apparently is always Shepherds Pie, Tuesdays it’s meat pies, Wednesday is
sausages…and so the list goes on. We only eat foreign food on Saturdays and
Sundays we always have a roast dinner. That’s two out of three families eat the
same every day of the week.

Write To Me
===========

Don’t forget if you want to drop me a line to do with anything really you can
always get me directly, no one else will see it – [EMAIL PROTECTED] Also we’re
still looking for problems as well for our Leave it to Levy section. If you’ve
got any problems that you think I might be able to tackle, then send me the
details, give me contact number as well and email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Toy Boys
========

I see the proportion of women marrying Toy Boy partners more than eight years
their junior has doubled. Can you believe that? It has more than doubled over
the past twenty years. Around ten thousand women a year now wed men more than a
decade younger – a dramatic reversal of the traditional balance between the
sexes. The experts say the trend reflects the growing numbers of financially
independent career women in powerful positions in the workplace. So there you
are! It’s alright girls to pick yourself a Toy Boy!

Well that’s it from me for today. Enjoy your Tuesday and I’ll be writing again
tomorrow. And of course don’t forget if there’s anyone you know who’d like to
receive a daily Levy Letter that is not yet signed up then all they’ve got to
do is go to the address at the bottom of the page, click on Levy Letter and
follow the instructions through.

Have a good day, join me tonight at 6.30pm.

All the best

Peter
