Hello it’s Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy Letter. Another beautiful
morning. I think this is what they call an Indian Summer! Anyway it will do for
me.

Thanks for all the response from yesterday after last night’s programme. We
talked about the possibility of some of the temporary road works staying in
place in Hull when the North Bridge is finally fixed and reopened in November.
Huge response on that one and I’m sure we’ll be returning to that on the
programme at the usual time. And also, after Paul mentioned he’d turned down
the opportunity to switch on the Christmas Lights in Withernsea due to
‘broadcasting commitments’ – well that’s opened the flood gates on emails –
we’ll have some of those a little later on.

Tonight at 6.30pm

As well as all the day’s news tonight, Paul will be here with the weather of
course. I shall be talking to the former schools’ inspector, turned broadcaster
and author - Gervase Phinn. So a busy programme tonight, join me at the usual
time if you can.

Sir Cliff

Now I see that Sir Cliff Richard has vowed that he’s never going to make
another record because of the unofficial ban on his music by radio stations.
The 64 year old singer is fed up that there is a boycott over his records. The
final straw came in October last year, with the release of his latest album,
which is called ‘Something’s Going On’. An album he’d spent a year making in
Nashville. It was well received by the critics, but failed to get any radio
play. So that’s a little bit sad, but Sir Cliff says that he won’t be making
any more records – but then I’ll believe it when I see it! But he’s obviously
not heard of BBC Radio Humberside, I’m sure Radio Lincolnshire play his records
as well. I can’t speak for Radio Lincolnshire, but Radio Humberside certainly
plays Sir Cliff Richard’s records. Maybe Sir Cliff should make records even if
they’re only for Radio Humberside. Anyway your views on that one gratefully
received.

Banter

As you know, just occasionally I will chat with Paul, just occasionally you
understand. But from the paper this morning, many bosses say banter is good for
business. Many bosses may frown upon it, but it is good for productivity.
Humorous exchanges (well that rules me and Paul out then) is a crucial function
in binding colleagues together and increasing staff morale. So if anyone
tackles me about it, then it’s official – it’s good for staff morale and good
for business. So says a guru in the paper this morning.

Leave it to Levy

Don’t forget. The usual reminder – if you’ve got a problem or issue that you’d
like me to deal with and take on in Leave it to Levy then tell me the details
and what your grievance is or what you’re not happy about, give me telephone
number as well if you’ve got one and drop me a line to Queens Court in Hull or
if you want to email me direct it’s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Toy Boy

I mentioned the subject of Toy Boys yesterday and the fact that more than ever
women are marrying a man who is younger than themselves. Well a lot of emails
on this one. But I just wanted to read one out from Chris – Will you please
give Dave, my husband, a mention. He’s 56 today. We’ve nearly been married two
years in October. He is my Toy Boy. I am two years older than him! And Dave – a
very happy birthday, 56 today, have a lovely day!

House Prices

Britain’s housing market is showing the clearest signs yet of a revival after
months of being stuck in the doldrums. Figures just out suggest that the worst
of the slowdown is over and the pickup is just around the corner. Estate agents
are reporting that there are more would-be buyers than at any time in the past
few years. So if you’re trying to sell your house, then that’s good news.

Guests

Thank you very much for all your suggestions on guests that we should get on
the red sofa. Keep the suggestions coming in. Top votes are for Bryan Ferry. I
mentioned Bryan a few weeks ago. I was telling the story of kitting him out in
that white dinner suit for the cover of that classic album ‘Another Time
Another Place’ when I was just 17 years old, possibly 18. Thanks to Ned who
managed to find me a picture of that same said album and he emailed it to me.
‘Another Time Another Place’ – a classic Bryan Ferry album. Ned – thank you for
that one. Keep the suggestions coming in for guests who you’d like to see on
the programme and we’ll do what we can.

That’s it for today’s Levy Letter. Have a good Wednesday. Join me tonight at
half past six, BBC One and I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye.
