Re: [Elecraft] K4
K3 (with the S-mods) and K3S are still strong going and competitive superhets if you have all the necessary filters and use the items in the menu (like AGC-settings etc). It's fast, no delays, easy to use, the panadapterdisplay is already on my computerscreen (don't need a P3 for that) and integrated with mouse control etc. People who use my K3 during a contest are still impressed how smooth the K3 operates in every mode, and how good a receiver it has. Only thing I would like myself is an different noise reduction algorithm. To get there, you probably need new 'infrastucture' like direct digital conversion and full SDR. That's a dicision for the makers. But please for the K3 (this is for Wayne), could you find the time to compensate the S-meter for pre-amp2? 73 all, Arie PA3A (S-modded K3 #1255) __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] ERR KEY Message
Hi Bob, I've been playing with the RSP1A at the IF of my K3 and HDSDR and SDR Uno as panadapter software. I also had Omnirig running for this. Never bumped into the kind of problem you describe. I can reproduce your problem though, by setting up omnirig with wrong RTS/DTR setting. One thing to observe is that you connect OmniRig to the K3 with RTS and DTR low. This will probably cure your problem. HDSDR / SDR Uno and the RSP1A not really gave me the results I want. My best and cheap panadapter is still the IF-Softrock plus my pc-onboard soundcard. Software: NAP3 and LP-BRIDGE. Wonderful pieces of software (THANK YOU GUYS). They do the trick for a beautiful panadapter (in collapsed mode) and flawless integration with the K3 and other software. The noise floor might not be as low as in the P3 of LP-pan, but it works for me as a panadapter. 73 Arie PA3A Op 17-4-2019 om 03:57 schreef Bob Conder via Elecraft: Been trying to configure SDR Uno with RSP2 as a spectrum scope. [Elecraft] K3 no TX, no RX, and solved
Just for sharing. Case: K3 #1255 (loaded) Has all mods during the years and upgrades to K3(s) except for USB port Problem: no TX and no RX (not on main, not on sub) Analysis: 1. Connecting a panadapter on the IF out: IF signal of main RX is there and and signals are where they should be, so VCO of main RX (as first oscillator) is working all right 2. The two pre-amps, attenuator, and antenna switches working fine (checked on panadapter) 3. RF gain to minimum moves S-meter to max on Main- and Sub-RX (normal) 4. All RX DSP functions seem to work on the little noise that is audible 5. Audio spectrum analyser connected at audio output shows that IF filters do not influence the audio bandwidth, only the DSP does. (fiddled with the filtersettings in the K3 utility) Conclusion: There's a hick-up between the 8.2MHz IF and the entrance to the DSP, seems like 2nd IF of 15kHz is down. No mixing signal form 8.2MHz to 15kHz? That one sits on the KREF3, where all those TMP-cables come together. Checking the reflector... Found this line: 'TMP-cables are a class by itself' , and indeed it is so. :-) Repair: Refitting all TMP-cables Result: K3 is playing as normal again and PA3A is a happy man. (By the way, this is not the first time in the life of #1255 that its TMP-cables needed a little push.) Re: [Elecraft] KPA500 power output starts out low, then goes up
I had the KPA500 PIN diode problem in 2015, and it started on one band only. And it did not happen all the time. After a while it became worse and more bands were affected. So based on my experience with my KPA500 #1497, I suggested the PIN diode problem as a possiblity. I wonder what the serial number is of the KPA500 we are talking about, and whether it is produced before or after a change in the design(?). Anyway, when I presented this problem (how it presented itself on my KPA500) in the group and to elecraft support, I never got the right answer. After basic faultfinding I found that the PIN diode circuit was causing the strange behaviour of the linear and then... presto... there was a elecraft-mod that I never heard of before. It contained a few new switching components and some capactiors for one of the LP-filters. After putting those in, problem was solved. My K3 line and me lived happy ever after :-). 73 Arie PA3A __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Wow, a touch screen. Wow? Come on, it's just an interface between man and machine. Just some ( and I mean /some/) thoughts: A touch screen can be a cheap set of programmable buttons. Could be nice for a user and maybe a cost reduction for the manufacturer. Nothing special and I'm not impressed at all. The touchscreen has several drawbacks as have been already stated. To add one: screen buttons can take up too much space on the screen if the screen is not big enough. My screen must display useful information (that is what screens are for), and must have a fair size. A touch screen is nice if you want to manipulate things. Manipulating things: zooming in and out, rotating, moving, etc. As long as it is easier with than with a mouse, the touch screen is super. Hello Bill, During normal operation there a no clicks when changing a filter. My K3 is an older one, but ever since I have the NEW SYNTH's on board, there's a lot of clicking going on when I change the width of the filters in Diversity mode. Nothing to worry about. Re: [Elecraft] K3: roofing filter configuration settings
Hi Dick, Just do it. If you need a certain bandwidth for a certain mode, use the narrowest roofer you have in there; just like in any other conventional transceiver. So if you want 350Hz as bandwidth, use that 250 filter (which is actually 370). That's common sense. Don't let the 250Hz tag on the filter fool you. They say they sell you 250Hz, that's just not true. It should have stated 350Hz or so. And in ham spirit: just try out different settings and decide what works best. 73 Arie PA3A Op 10-2-2016 om 6:05 schreef Dick via Elecraft: snip> The factory default roofing filter "configuration bandwidth" setting is to set the 250hz filter at a setting of "250". Re: [Elecraft] USB Soundcard
Tim, About the line-in / mic in a simple laptop: Before going through the process of buying a super usb external soundcard, check the windows configuration - sound of your laptop and look at recording devices. I upgraded my K3 -1255 with the SYN3A for future LF-reception and good QRQ-QSK in the present time. Elecrafts strategy is unknown to me, and I don't care. Bob, This is how I often use the diversity of my K3 (it has the sub RX, and similar filters in Man and Sub RX) - on 20m: one 3-el beam to NW on Main and a 5-el mono to NE on Sub - on 160m: vertical on Main and receive 4-square on Sub - on 40m: 3 el beam on Main, vertical on Sub (It depends a bit on the antennas I can use at that time.) If there's a weak station on one ear that I want to work, and loud signals come battering on my other ear, I'd like to concentrate on one channel to make it easier. Than I switch the audio to the channel I want. After finishing the QSO I switch back to diversity. Yes, the antenna's are not more than 50m apart but they have a totally different receive pattern. I remember that during a DXpedition I was working with a beam and had a vertical on the other RX. The guys I heard on the vertical were copyable very well on the vertical. Re: [Elecraft] Linked VFO's -- usage?
Thanks for your support Guy. I have addressed this subject several times in the past (with no success). I often use diversity in contests (ever since I have my K3, which carries #1255). Now that the K3 runs the diversity form one VFO and the problem of the filter offsets seems to be solved, this is the last thing to improve. 73 Arie PA3A Guy Olinger K2AV schreef op 3-8-2015 om 23:29: The counter to yet another mechanical outside box is that the ability to write firmware and update it inserts another very major possibility, that it can be done in the digital stream without need of extra cords and boxes. To use the mechanical box, we must physically route the audio to the box and plug in the headphones there. We have to mount the box so it doesn't move around. And worst of all, I have to make it. My microHam box doesn't treat a/b audio in this manner. "B" audio is radio 2 with its own stereo audio output. and it labels a pair of stereo lines RX1 and RX2. That deals with a pair of radios, not left/right stereo audio switching. So if I actually have two radios hooked up to it, no way to use it "creatively" to do the tricks just with the K3 in diversity. If I take my K3 anywhere else, like NY4A for multi contesting, I lose the function as what I get at NY4A is main antenna, RX antenna and power from the station, rather than a double of my now unique home station. Putting it in the digital functions makes it instantly portable. So, understanding your suggestion completely, and with no malice whatsoever, I decline, and still lean to the future with something that can be put in a macro stream sent to it from MM+ or whatever. I CAN take my MM+ macros with embedded K3 program commands. Feeding the A stream to the b audio just seems to be too easy in firmware, it's already done for non-diversity. Use of the diversity hold is problematic because it assumes that the unwanted half of the headphone audio is in the subRX side. 73, Guy On Mon, Aug 3, 2015 at 3:33 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Don, I know what diversity is Don, and I use it as you describe. It just happens that I sometimes need to concentrate on one channel only to make the QSO. That's where the A-A en b-b come into play. Re: [Elecraft] Linked VFO's -- usage?
Don, to set things up, I use a macro programmed in the F12-key in N1MM to copy the freq/mode/BW From A to B, switch on the SubRx, set audio to A-b listening and Link the VFO's. Switching of the audio is done in F9-F10-11 to A-b, A-A, or b-b respectively. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Beta 5r10 and LINK
Vic, When the K3 is in diversity, it is in diversity, meaning that Main RX is on left ear and Sub Rx on right ear. This cannot be changed. Often, it is convenient to switch to only one antenna and one audio instead of two. So if a signal is really good on the Sub RX, I switch to B-B, meaning both ears hear the Sub RX audio. After finishing the QSO I switch back to A-B, the normal diversity audio and go on in diversity. This trick cannot be done if the K3 is in diversity. So I have the K3 in LINK-mode so that both VFO's stay toghether on the same frequencies. If the audio switching would be available when the K3 is in diversity mode, I would not need LINK. Now it is my way of working around this. 73 Arie PA3A Vic Rosenthal schreef op 16-2-2015 om 9:22: I don't understand. The K3 directly supports dual diversity reception. The beta makes it possible to enter diversity mode with a normal hold of the SUB button instead of the previously required long hold. The LINK function makes the two VFOs tune together, and they can be on the same frequency. But it isn't needed for diversity and would be clumsy to use for that purpose for several reasons (extra button pushes to equalize frequencies, bandwidth, etc.; possible need to change audio mixing setting). LINK is not the same as diversity, and I have never figured out what it is good for. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Beta 5r10 and LINK
Tony LINK ties both VFO's to the mail freq dial en keeps them insync when you turn the dial knob. So both receivers keep working on the same freq. What I often use i diversity listening so with two receivers and two antennas on the samen freq. Diversity puts the main RX audio on the left ear of the headset, and the Sub on the right ear. That's the normal situation. In my case, the F9-F12 buttons in N1MM contain commands to the K3 that switch the audio to my liking (that can also be done in the Config, but that takes too much time during QSO) This way I can switch listening from diversity (listen both MainRX and SubRX at same time) to only main RX (main RX audio on both ears) or only sub RX (Sub RX audio on both ears) depending on where the signal is best. The commands to do this are in the programmers manual of the K3. It's really fun to control some beautiful K3 features from the keyboard like this. 73 Arie PA3A N2TK, Tony schreef op 15-2-2015 om 16:38: Hi Arie, I am not sure I understand what LINK does to help when both receivers are on the same freq. Hello Ted, When I need to be on zero beat within one Hz, I always switch on the spot on the K3 and set the received signal to the same volume. Once I hear the combination of both increase and decrease slowly, I know that I am within a Hz. It's also the way I calibrate the K3 against a standard like WWV or the russian station on 9.996 / 14.996 (forgot the callsign). 73 Arie PA3A Ted Edwards W3TB schreef op 5-10-2014 12:44: I have never been convinced of being accurate on zero-beat on my K3. So the question: How would I determine that my offset and side tone would match up so that I am really zero-beated when I think I am. Hi all, My serial number 12xx is not as low as some, but I had my share of mods in the K3. I've done them all myself including adding the LPF on the DSP board (which was an improvement in my case). Implementing the mods was never a problem, thanks to the good documentation on the elecraft website and all info in this reflector. As for firmware, I follow all updates. Never regretted that. Re: [Elecraft] [K3] Roofing filters are misunderstood
Well, You defenitely need those filters in the K3. When signals are strong and the band is busy, signals coming through the roofing filter (line S9+20dB) is said to pump the hardware AGC, even if you have the DSP filtering set to a small BW. Anyway, you can certainly hear that. Try it on CW, on 40m in the evening when there's a contest. You'll love the 400Hz roofing filter. 73 Arie PA3A Al Lorona schreef op 11-5-2014 23:03: What determines the bandwidth you hear at the loudspeaker? It's not your roofing filter, despite a continuing notion that it is. Dave Hachadorian's point in a post a few weeks ago was that you don't need a 1.8 kHz filter to get a 1.8 kHz bandwidth. You're free to set whatever bandwidth you want with any filter. Before rigs had DSP we got used to the idea that your crystal filter sets your bandwidth. That's not true any more. It sets your *maximum* bandwidth. You then have the freedom to narrow and position a bandwidth arbitrarily using the DSP controls [SHIFT and WIDTH or HI and LO]. Here's a true-false quiz: 1. I'm a contester, so I need a 1.8 kHz roofing filter in the K3. 2. I should purchase the 400 Hz filter if I like to operate CW with bandwidths of 300 - 400 Hz. 3. For SSB, the 2.7 and 2.8 kHz filters are 'too wide'. 4. I have the 2.7 kHz filter installed, so for best results I should set my WIDTH control for a passband of 2.7 kHz. 5. I can use my 2.7 kHz filter in CW mode with my LO=0.30 and HI=0.50 (that is, BW=0.20). __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Hi Buck, You are talking about Line-out of the K3. First question is: is it working ok with your headset on? So can you hear the subRX that way? If that is working as it should then do the next check: First thing to look at: To what is the line-out connected? If you connect it to a stereo computer speaker set, that is a good way to check. Re: [Elecraft] K3/KPA500/KAT500 revs 4.83/1.38/1.58
I think I found a little thing to improve. the KAT500 can miss a frequency update from the K3 in a certain situation To replicate: - Switch everything on and operate the KAT/KPA/K3 combo as usual with KAT500 in manual mode - Activate the KAT500 utility for monitoring the KAT500 and select the Operate tab, here you can see the last observed frequency. See that KAT500 follows theK3 freq and switches accordingly. Now - set the KAT to BYPass - Change K3 freq, note that the KAT500 freq info does not follow this. - Switch KAT to MANual, note that the freq info is still not there - now transmit with the K3, note that the KAT detects the frequency now and switches to the appropriate setting (the old way). Improvement = KAT500 follows K3 freq in all KAT modes. so also in BYPass, and switches to the right setting as soon as you switch to MANual or AUTO. 73 Arie PA3A __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Crystal Filter Offset in 4.81, What does it mean?
Don, I understand this. Let me explain my thoughts. Let's suppose we have the different IF's. One analog, the 8Mhz stuff, and then a "DSP IF" which is fed by the second 15kHz IF. I am not a DSP expert. But I would expect that the DSP filter would filter out whatever bandwidth I would want it to, just like it were analog and better. I expect this function of any IF filter, digital and analog. What we are tallking about is that the opposite sideband can pass through the analog part of the K3 (because of the wide roofing filter) and yes it does if the skirt of the filter allows it. If this is not solved in the DSP, the /function/ of the DSP is not more than the old type audio DSP filter we had in the old days (apart from partly being inside the AGC-loop) As Ralph DL5OAP already stated: Even the old FT1000MP with DSP demodulation killed the opposite sideband. I had an MP for a long time (before I got the K3) and I can confirm this. I had it switched on all the time. As you said Don, the K3 really needs the analog roofing filter to be in place to reach its best performance. Good thing that I have them for the bandwidths I use. And overall it works pretty well. There are still some things to improve though. 73 Arie (not Arnie :-)) Don Wilhelm schreef op 6-2-2014 17:21: Arnie, Think about it this way -- take a filter width of 1500 Hz and a sidetone pitch of 600 Hz. If you center the passband at 600 Hz, the upper passband limit will be at 1350 Hz, but the lower edge will be 150 Hz into the opposite sideband (single signal reception goes "bye-bye"). The proper position if the passband is to place the lower edge at about 100 Hz, and the upper edge will extend to 1600 Hz. That is true for any passband that is greater than 2 times the passband width. 73, Don W3FPR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 / KPA500 / KAT500 Tuning
Hi all, Now that we are talking about the tuning of the K3 line. As a matter of fact, I have the K3-KPA500-KAT500 combo and when tuned, it workes just fine. All is working as it should but still, this combunation can do much better. The tuning process is not so smooth as I would expect it to be. The K3 line is supposed to have great integration, and I dare to say: yes it has integration BUT up to a certain level. Yes, we have bandswitching in place (everybody has that) Yes, the KPA goes off line when tuning and fires immediately after the tuning process (good from Elecraft). Yes, the KAT remembers the setting per band and per band segment (not special) In total: absolutely Good. Here's what I miss and why. I often take the K3-line with me to other places, and at home my antenna-impedance reacts to rain pretty quick so retuning is often necesarry. The tuning proces is not as I would expect from a well integrated line. I have to press two tune buttons to do so, switch on the K3 signal (tune button) and then press the tune button on the KAT500. After that, stop the signal from the K3 (tune button again) How smooth would it be that I could press the tune button on the KAT500 and the KPA500 would go to standby (it does that already) and the K3 gives the tuning signal automatically as long as the tuning process of the KAT500 needs it. This would then work the same way as the tuning of the K3 and its internal tuner. Off course I would like the badsegment info for the KAT500 transferred from the K3 via the AUX cable instead of plain RF, but that has been discussed many times. I wonder if it could be done like this: send the bandsegment info from the K3 as soon as the K3 gives PTT. How is this done inside the K3? It switches the tuner to the right bandsegment setting when the PTT goes to on. Does this give an opening to programmers or is it just impossible because of the hardware that is involved? Then I'll be silent :-) 73 Arie PA3A __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Tuner issues
William, I know exactly what you mean. It would be a nice feature that when I press the tune button on the KAT500, it would key the K3 at the same time and put theKPA500 in standby (if you have one). Elecraft shines in clever layed out equipment and firmware. This would be a logical feature to add to the firmware. 73 Arie PA3A William Levy schreef op 7-11-2013 15:23: One thing that stumped me and cause me all kinds of grief was what button I was pushing. Reminder to those who may not know. The Internal K3 tuner runs when you press ATU TUNE The external KAT500 tunes when you push and hold the XMT button. If you tune internally the external KAT will show all kinds of SWR reds and yellows. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 internal SWR meter
Don, As always you hit the nail the first time right :-) In 2012 I built my own SWR meter with a microcontroller readout for Pwr and SWR. This was one thing i had to fix in the software. 73 Arie PA3A Op 22-9-2013 21:36, Don Wilhelm schreef: Jorg, You said the SWR meter "spikes" up to and SWR of 3. Re: [Elecraft] err 12 v problem
I think I had the 12V error 10 months ago (K3 #1255). The 100W PA drops off-line and the K3 falls back to the 12W driver-amp. Elecraft sent me the necessary parts to cure this problem in the mail. They also provided me with the quick (not dirty) field fix (6 pictures) in the e-mail. Did the last one. Easy job. No problems ever since. I'll forward the field fix directly to your address. 73, Arie Op 20-9-2013 14:13, Dave Wank schreef: Hello.I just thought I would also ask the group what to do about a err 12 v message on my K3.I contacted support but I probably wont get an answer until later today.I would be very thankful for any help or information about this message.Thanks...Dave NK8A __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 NR needs improvement
Yes, The NR needs improvement (at least on SSB) and the notch should be inside the AGC loop. It has been said so many times before. I know there are people who use the K3/IF - softrock/lp-pan - comuterSDR-software combo in same cases instead of the K3 SDR. H, The NB's (DSP and hardware) both work as I would expect. In de upcoming TN2MS DXpedition I will use the the K3-NR on 160/80 CW. That is where it helps me against the fatigue of a whole night on those bands. 73 Arie PA3A __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 and whats next from Elecraft
Lynn, Some filtering ahead or some attenuation or preamp will be there or better said: are there. What I meant is that the transceiver of the near future will use an HF A/D converter, so direct digital sampling. One of the first widely available RX's (at a nice price) was the perseus RX. Lots of info on the net about this little RX. A nice application of this principle is found as a 'web-sdr'. See here http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ You can even check your own signal with it (if propagation permits hi) 73 Arie PA3A Op 19-8-2013 21:12, Lynn W. Re: [Elecraft] K3 and whats next from Elecraft
Lynn, We don't have to worry about processorpower. The hardware is already there and still developping. And Yes, sampling up to 6m is possible. Apart from that, the interfacing from the machine to us humans can certainly do better with some innovation (new ideas) as well. 73, Arie PA3A Op 19-8-2013 18:07, Lynn W. Taylor, WB6UUT schreef: Consider for a moment an SDR with no analog filtering at all. How wide would the passband be? Are we going to cover everything from MF to 6m? The A-D converter is going to have to convert everything coming in, and the DSP is going to have to sort out what you want out of everything coming in: broadcast, other services, noise 50 MHz wide, and who knows what else. I'd rather have the DSP concentrate on a smaller bandwidth signal, and have the processing power available for the few MHz I care about at any given time. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 and whats next from Elecraft
Hi Milverton, The K3 has enough software and also in the filtering, but it depends HEAVILY on the analog IF filtering. It is a combination, that's why I call it a hybrid. And for the rest: The next generation radio's will be full DSP, this technology will come fast. We have already seen several rigs (receivers and transceivers, also some websdr's on the net) with this technology. 73, Arie PA3A Op 19-8-2013 14:03, tnny...@yahoo.com schreef: >>> The next Elecraft rig will be a real SDR radio (not a hybrid like the K3). <<< The K3 is a SDR Radio! 73 Milverton. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
